Help! Text Outline Creates Broken Stroke

Hi all, thank you ahead of time, newbie here so go easy.
I just upgraded from CS3 to CS5 and I have run into a problem that I cannot find an answer to.
I am trying to send something to the printers, and normally this would work (I think, unless I'm having some brain fart or something). I type some text, "Create Outlines," but when I go to add a stroke to the new outlined text, it creates it all wrong. If you're familiar with Illustrator, it looks like the paths are all screwed up or something.
Did something change in the way I have to do this between CS3 and CS5? I tried a new document, but same problem. Attached is what it looks like.

If the stroke is a design decision to make 'hollow' text, consider this, too:
Live text appears different from the oulined text when a stroke is applied.
In the screenshot, both samples have a stroke applied and a [paper] fill.
The first one looks much better, IMO.
If you have to outline the text, you will see better results if the outline is part of the export settings instead of part of the design.
Also, if there are any text edits requried later, the outlined text would have to be recreated. The live text is simply edited and exported again.
The oddball stroke is likely the result of a combination of the stroke size, the font size and the glyph shape. My sample above is Myriad Pro Bold at 36 pt with a Tracking of +100 applied.

I would like to create a help button in my software that a user could click on to find more information about a specific part of the program in the online help text. To get the best answers, I think you probably need to break down your post into several different one with a separate question in each, along with the business problem you are trying to solve... but here's a few pointers for you to research...
Textbox - there's plenty of info in SDN on creating a custom control with a textbox e.g. Re: Text Editor on modulepool Screen and sample code in SAP too.

Some text after creating outlines fills with gadient

I have a few files in Illustrator CS that when I select all text and "create outlines" of them, about half of the text fills with black (normal), and the other half fill with a black to white gradient.
Has anyone else seen this?

If you are working too fast and press the decimal point on the numeric key pad it will change all your selected vectors to grad fills. Could this be what is happening? I do this sometimes by accident when going for the ENTER key.

Creating Popup Help Text

Hello All.
I've created an HTML Text region containing a List of hypertext links. What I am trying to do is to have a text message appear below the region whenever a user hovers over a given link. This message will explain something about the link.
I created a "HELP Region" in which I wrote some help text specific to a given link. But I don't know how to get this text to appear only when a user hovers over a specific link. This help text should appear BELOW the region containing the list of links.
Is there any way to do this?
Should I be using Javascript? If so, does anyone have an example they can show me?

Ok in response to your questions:
1) In my APEX regions, where exactly do I place this
javascript. I'm new to using APEX, and so, I'm not
sure where it goes.The best way to do this would be to put the javascript functions into a separate file eg showHide.js.
You can then import this into your application by adding it to the top of your template using HTML. This means you don't have to add it for every page, and it will also only be imported once per session, when user first enters the application. For the onMouseOver and onMouseOut bits, they need to be added to the "HTML Form Element Attributes" in the "Element" section of the page item you want the region to use to make the region appear.
2) Do you think there is a way to toggle the actual
language used in my text messages that I will be
showing/hiding? In other words, is there some sort
of
language like options in javascript that allow for
display of different languages such as Arabic or
German?ApEx does have language translation, but I believe this is only for things such as titles, and headers etc, not for free text. With regards to "toggling" a language, you could create mulitple regions with each language, and then display them conditionally based on the language settings of the browser?

How to import a text file created in Pages (iWork '08) to Photoshop Elements

I am totally a novice at working with Photoshop Elements. I need help. I want to create my business card in Photoshop Elements with a background image and then a text layer over the background layer. The logo and text was created in Pages (iWork '08). Can I import this text file to Photoshop Elements and if so how do I do that? I cannot create the same logo in Elements unless someone can tell me how to draw a circle with a transparent background so that just the outline of the circle shows and the background comes through. Thanks for any help you can offer. I have OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.4 and Photoshop Elements 6.

In PSE, to draw an empty circle use the elliptical marquee tool and hold down shift while you drag to constrain it to a circle. That will give you an empty selection, then go to Edit>Stroke (outline) selection. A window appears where you can choose the width and color of the stroke.
However, I'm not understanding why you would want to create your business card in PSE rather than in Pages or equivalent. Is there a special reason for this?
EDIT As for the text file, it would be simpler just to retype it in PSE, since it can't be very much text. Remember that PSE doesn't do all the fancy things with text that Pages can, although it can do some things (like warping) that Pages can't.
You could activate the text tool and use copy/paste, but you'll lose most of the formatting.

Problems creating a stroke around entire completed logo

Hi
Am currently having trouble finishing off my logo.
I need to be able to do a stroke around the entire logo so that when i cut it out i dont need to go right to the edge of the design (as it is for heat pressing on t-shirts).
Only problem is I can't work it out. I've tried grouping it all then trying to create one stroke around the entire thing but it still wants to apply the stroke to individual items.Then I tried putting a copied layer behind and giving it a stroke but because it is filled with black it changes the colour of the blue. tried filling with white, but it creates halo's and shadows in the background. Ive set the transparency to block out the black behind as much as i can to try and eliminate the colour change problem. But its still not right.
So the question is, can i create a stroke just around the outside of my completed logo?
Have attached a pdf with two examples. One without anything and one with the copied layer behind and filled black so you can see the colour difference.
Any help or suggestions would be fabulous.

If I understand your problem correctly, this should do what you need:
Select and group the oval and the text. Keep selected. Go to Window>Appearance. On the upper right, just above the bar that says Group, you should see three short horizonal bars and a tiny triangle. Click on that, and a menu will open, one of the options being Add New Stroke. Select that. You will see the new 1-pt. black stroke appear under the Group bar in the Appearance palette. Click and hold the Stroke bar, drag it below the Contents bar. Go to the stroke palette Window>Stroke and increase the size of the stroke until you are satisfied with it.

The Tablename is Employee. It has the following records
Department Empname Gender
Finance Tom Male
Finance Rick Male
Finance Stacy Female
Corporate Tom Male
Corporate Rob Male
I want to select the value of the Gender field from the Employee table corresponding to a Department
If all the values in the Gender field are 'MALE' corresponding to 'finance' in the Department field, the value should be 'MALE'
If there is a value 'FEMALE', the gender corresponding to the Empname 'TOM' should be considered as the gender

Tables have rows - not records.
Your question is a basic SQL language question - which means you do not know the SQL language. This forum is not a classroom for teaching you the SQL language.
Use the following as the basic outline of how your SQL language statement need to look like for selecting the required from the table:

The SQL projection specifies the list of columns the SQL need to return to the caller.
The filter condition is basic predicates and AND and OR can be used for multiple predicates.
Go to http://tahiti.oracle.com and look for the +SQL Reference Guide+ for the Oracle version you are using. The +SELECT+ statement syntax is covered in detail and sample statements are provided.
And please do not expect this forum to be used as a classroom, or expect this forum to do your homework for a class.

Front End Screen to Update Item Help Text

Hello, I've been asked to create an Apex front end screen which the Administrators can access in order to update the Help Text associated to the page items within our application (Apex 4).
I created a basic Interactive Report:
select page_id, item_name, display_as, ITEM_HELP_TEXT from APEX_APPLICATION_PAGE_ITEMS where application_id = :APP_ID;
I also have an edit page, which contains the page id (display only), item_name (display only), item_help_text (text field).
Everything is working fine, except that when the Update process fires to update the help text, I get an Insufficient Privileges error message.
Update APEX_APPLICATION_PAGE_ITEMS
set item_help_text = :p7_item_help_text
where item_id = :p7_item_id
and application_id = :APP_ID;
Just wondering, is it possible to update this APEX_APPLICATION_PAGE_ITEMS table? If not, can you please advise what the workaround would be?

Log on as APEX_04000 user and then grant permission to your wpplication schema user. For a example if your application schema is app_user then
Grant SELECT,UPDATE ON APEX_APPLICATION_PAGE_ITEMS to app_user;Thanks

Help needed to create a CSS 'style-switcher' button.

I need some help please in creating alternate style sheets for each page on a site I'm creating to enable users to change text size (i.e. small, normal and large options - sometimes, symbolized as a letter 'A' in varying sizes). The site has been built in basic format so far but I would like to add these features for the sake of usability. There are no actual problems with the site as it currently works fine, it's just this one thing I need help with.
Is this possible using post-processing methods, (which I have no problem doing) and if so could someone kindly point me in the right direction? I've searched the iWeb forum using keywords most relevant to this question and have found nothing.

The first paragraph is not responding and at larger sizes line spacing is not in proportion to the size of the text (and is squashed), what am I doing wrong?

Getting help text to show on fillable form

Hi all,
This might be really simple but I've created a few forms in FormCentral and I've included the 'help text' on a few fields. When I save the form as a PDF and open with Adobe reader, I get the purple bar across the top stating 'Please fill out the following form', however the help text does not show up anywhere to give guidance?
Is this a particular view setting in reader?

The help text won't display in the purple document message bar at the top, but should appear as the tooltip text when the mouse cursor hovers over a field that has help text set. It works that way for me.

'Include help text' does not show up in PDF

I am using the Adobe Acrobat XI Pro trial to create writable PDF registration forms, and when I use the 'Include help text' and add the required information, once converted from 'FORMSCENTRAL' into a PDF, the '?' disappears.
I also can't work out how to 'Save as' in 'FORMSCENTRAL' for different versions of this document (similar registration forms but for five different cities) to make alterations. It seems I have to recreate each city all over again for the PDF version, when I need to make one small change to the Terms and conditions section on our form, for example.
I would appreciate some guidance, thank you!

Close the form so you are looking at the "My Forms" tab, the view that shows you all of your forms. In the "My Forms" tab you can right click on a form and choose "Duplicate" from the context menu or you can select a form and click on the "Duplicate" button in the toolbar above the list of forms.

IN general attributes, from the drop down menu. I had selected Text Module then It is asking me for the
Name : zxxx(Name of the Text module created in SForm)
Language : ENGLISH
Selected the option - No error if no text exists
- ALways copy style from text module
Then I had clicked on COPY button...Then it is automatically turning into Text Element
It is showing nothing in that Text area. Am I going right?
Please correct me....If I am wrong....I am trying to put this in Text node.
I had created a Text module in the Smart form by selecting the Radio Button in Smart form.

All information about the classes and objects in a universe are stored in the repository database (universe domain). To get that information in your report you need to create a query on the repository database.
For an overview of all objectnames and descriptions that would be:

Scaling of text outlines in svg format

I'm in need of a solution for scaling text outlines in an svg format. I'm working on developing a Flash app that allows users to type in Flash text with an outline that is then exported out in an svg format. When user then scales the resulting svg formatted file the outline scales in proportion to the text size.Similar to what Illustrator does in it's app preferences, "Scaling Strokes & Effects".Thanks for any ideas anyone has!
