Help. The audio of my footage goes really quiet when dragged into Premiere Pro timeline
Hi there,
Basically, I conducted an interview and the audio sounds loud when I play it through the top left editing window on Premiere, but when I drag it into the timeline it goes quiet. I go on audio gain and it says the peak amplitude is set to -12 for example. Any explanations what is going on/how I can improve the audio?
I tried compressing the audio, which does make it louder, but it also increases the sound of the background traffic noise and makes it sound strange.
Please help.

Just as an experiment add the fill left audio effect to a clip on the time line, does that make it louder?

How do I get audio back on single clip that loses audio when imported into Premiere Pro CC?
I've got one clip out of many that for some reason won't play any audio when imported into Premiere Pro. I am new to Premiere Pro so am hoping it's something stupid I've done, but this is a problem with just a single clip exported the same way as all my others, the original audio is loud (not quiet) and none of the FAQ issues seem to apply (ie I haven't muted the audio or anything stupid like that)
The clip was exported from Plural Eyes into a "master" Premiere Pro project where the audio is fine. I exported it as a short MP4 clip and if I play the clip in Windows Media Player the audio is there loud and clear.
But when I import the clip into a fresh Preimiere Pro CC project this clip appears with just the "film strip" icon on the far left in the Timeline panel, unlike other clips which have an icon that shows "film strip" in the background and "audio wave" in the foreground.
I'm hitting so many glitches with the CC editions of Premiere Pro and After Effects which have annoying inconsistencies between them I'm tempted to just go back to Sony Vegas Pro (single program, no hassle) but hoping most of these issues are down to "newbie incompetence". Very hard to understand why this one clip out of many should be giving me this specific problem though. Any ideas?I'm getting so many weird results. Most go away by simply closing the project and re-opening and I only have 6GB memory but even so, I'm disappointed by what I thought was supposed to be more "world class" video editing software than Sony Vegas Pro which I found to be a lot more stable. Also struggling with differences between Premiere and After Effects. Every time I want to do something in Pro I seem to need to go to After Effects and vice-versa. After Effects lets me do more of what I could "just do" in Vegas Pro timeline, but it's hideous for lining up audio and having to render anything in RAM to even get a clue as to what a change has done. Need to add Audition to the long list as well I suspect. Fun times!

IPhone 5 getting really really hot when plugged into MacBook Pro Retina?

I have had my Macbook for about 1 month and I recently discovered that my phone is getting extremely hot while charging through USB port.
I was not sure if it was my phone as I was having issues with volume buttons, so was not sure if I had some dodgy software or something. So I went to the apple store and it was replaced as it was actually a hardware issue.
But then with my new replacement iphone 5 I am still having the same issue of the phone becoming unbearable to touch because it is so hot!
Does anyone know if there is an issue with the Macbook Pro Retina's giving out too much power and whether I should go and see someone about the issue ? But in the mean time is it still okay for my phone to be charge this way?

Help! Trouble Rendering 16:9 footage in AE, and playing it in Premiere Pro!
I have two issues:
#1. I've spent hours searching for a solution to this dilemma, and I've only managed to come across "similar" problems other people have been having... However, I still cannot fix my problem.
Basically, I've been editing some footage in After Effects. The source material was filmed in HDV 1080, 30 fps; the source's aspect ratio was 1440 x 1080. I attempted to render the completely-edited footage in an AVI format with the compression codec: Xvid MPEG-4 Codec (as was suggested by a tutorial video on YouTube) and with an aspect ratio of 1024 x 768. But, no matter what I do, my rendered video always comes out horizontally "squeezed" when viewed in Windows Media Player, and when uploaded to YouTube/Facebook. Fortunately, when imported to Premiere Pro, I can interpret the footage properly so it's not squeezed.
Is there anyway I can render footage in After Effects so the widescreen product isn't "squeezed" in WMP/Facebook/YouTube?
#2. Even though the footage can be interpreted properly in Premiere Pro, the playback is jumpy - like, it'll only play 2 seconds smoothly, and then get stuck, jumping to points that are 5-7 seconds apart. Surprisingly, the original source material does not have this issue in Premiere Pro, despite having a larger aspect ratio and a file size that's more than twice as large. I thought maybe a small RAM was the problem, but my computer has 3.8 GB of usable space on the RAM when I checked. Rendering the work area after every little edit I do is getting too tedious, 'cause it takes about a minute to render the 12 second footage - but at least it plays back smoothly... I don't have to do this with the original source, though. Is there a way around this? What's causing the jumpy playback in Premiere Pro CS 5.5?
Thanks...If you want to render for any media player (QT or Windows) you must use a square pixel format that's appropriate to the codec you're using. AE's presets that use square pixels are all legal frame sizes. If you want to have Premiere or any other NLE playback footage you render in After Effects without having to re-render the previews you must use the same codec you're using for the sequence.
Your frame size from Premiere is NOT square pixels, it's DVC Pro HD with a 1.33 PAR so unless you bring that footage into a square pixel comp (1920 X 1080 for example) or resize it on export using the Adobe Media Encoder (recommended) or by Resizing in the Output Module (not recommended for a bunch of reasons) the output is going to look squeezed in any media player.
Rendering to the Xvid MPEG 4 codec from AE isn't recommended at all because MPEG codecs only give good results when you use multi pass ending (AME will do that), but more importantly MPEG codecs are GOP codecs which make up the data for several virtual frames from a few real (i frames), and they take a tremendous amount of CPU power to decode.
Your best rendering choices are a lossless 10 bit codec (black magic for example) or a lossless like Animation Quicktime if you need alpha channels, or nearly lossless codec like Photo JPEG QT at 95% quality when you're doing further production on the footage including color correction, or to render to the same codec the camera uses. Only the same codec used for your PPro sequence will give you smooth playback in Premiere Pro without rendering previews.
If you told us what codec the camera uses we'd be able to help you figure out the best option for rendering. -

Phantom Flex footage dark when imported to Premiere Pro
Hi everyone (and hopefully Adobe Staff, also),
I am aware this has been posted before, though from what I can see no one, Adobe Staff or users, have found a solution. I am hoping we can change that!
I recently directed a Music video that was shot on the Phantom Flex. Everything went smoothly and after dropping the 3TB of footage via Seance (program by gluetools for Mac) I am now faced with a problem. While all the footage looks fine in Seance and on the Finder; when imported to Premiere Pro (CC v8.1, Caravan (latest update currently) it goes very dark, blue and flat. Premiere Pro is interpreting the colour/luma of the footage wrong.
Adobe states that Premiere Pro supports Phantom Flex .cine files but it seems that while you can edit with them, the colour/luma is interpreted incorrectly. Many other people also seem to have this problem.
These images below are all screenshots from Macbook Pros, one with ‘Glue Tools Phantom Cine Flex 4K’ installed (the gear house’s laptop) and one without (mine).
I need to find a way to get Premiere Pro to interpret the colour/luma properly in Premiere Pro to edit the project, it seems the Glue Tools plugin is not the solution I was hoping for, as some people have suggested elsewhere.
Is there a way to fix this within Premiere Pro or a plugin etc?
Has anyone successfully edited Phantom Flex footage in Premiere Pro?
Any help would be extremely helpful as I am really stuck here.

JackIt looks to me like Seance (and Finder) are applying a LUT to the footage, whereas PP is showing you the flat image as it was actually recorded, which is normally the desired result. Was there a LUT applied in the camera viewfinder or on-set monitor, something you might also apply in PP?

Audio gets lost when sending to Premiere Pro
Hey fellow Prelude users.
I encountered a nasty problem. I ingested some AVCHD Clips in Prelude and edited them and made many, many clips out of the footage. Then I sent it to Premiere for further edit. Unfortunatly at some Clips the audio is now missing, even if there's audio in Prelude. I tried to export just the audio from Prelude to match it with my roughcut but also the export has no audio at the points where the clips with missing audio are.
When importing the Clips without the new metadata by Prelude the audio is just fine. This seems to be a pretty weird issue.

AlexI have run into the same problem with AVCHD footage. Initially, I thought that the problem might involve the transfer feature in Prelude CC's Ingest function. I had used that when ingesting the problem media, to move source clips to a couple of different folders on my edit station.
I subsequently realized that probably wasn't the case, since I had logged the clips in Prelude after they were ingested. So, they had sound when I ingested them, but not later, when I imported them into Premiere Pro CC.
The audio loss was complete on one clip--no sound at all on the clip or subclips when I opened the clip in Premiere. The audio loss was partial in the other clip--the audio level flatlined about three-quarters of the way through the clip. Each clip was about twenty minutes long--an interview with a subject for a documentary I'm shooting. I set subclips for each response that I planned to use in my cut of the film.
I keep my source cards as backup, so I was able to go back and re-ingest, this time without using the transfer feature. Instead, I copied the source card to my edit station, using Windows Explorer. Then I used Prelude ti ingest and log the copied media. That appears to have imported into Premiere without problem. -
Importing IMX50 footage into Premiere Pro CS5.5

I've been trying to import a Final Cut 6 project into Premiere Pro CS 5.5 without any success. The footage is originally imx 50 codec. I do an xml import and I get a error message saying it cant read the .mov codec. It can see the sequence but can't associate any of the footage to it. I also tried transcoding the FCP sequnce to prores and then doing an xml export but with exactly the same result! Can anybody help?Hi Colin,

99 or 100% when it says Premiere Pro has stopped working and needs to close. What's going on?
I am using the premiere pro trial at the moment and have been trying to render a video for a solid week now. My computer is far more powerful then the recommended specs and yet it still takes 2 hours to attempt to export a 3 minute video (that isn't even heavily edited) and not only that but it will get to 99 or 100% when it says Premiere Pro has stopped working and needs to close. I have used earlier versions of the product before and never had such problems, even my 2 year old laptop could breeze exporting. What's going on?

I'm using Windows 8.1 build 9600
My sources are contained in .mov, .mp4 and .png. The codec I'm trying to use is H.264
After I set the project to export I got this error message every time it gets to either '99' or '100%' completed. "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available"
I have never had such a problem with the program which makes me think it might have something to do with a recent update.
No other notable software was running during the export.
I don't have any third-party effects or codecs installed.
I have 64 bit OS and processor, Intel i5 - 4670K quad core clocked at 3.40 GHz. 12 GB of RAM. And a GTX 770 with 2GB of video RAM.
Unless it was installed in the trial, I do not have the Mercury Playback Engine.
And finally, it can be noticeably choppy during the preview when it gets to the part I don't have rendered but is fine again for a bit if I replay those parts. A part from being a bit slower then usual, I didn't actually run into a major problem until I started exporting.

Audio Meters "peak indicator" gets stuck after prolonged use of Premiere Pro CC.
Does anyone else have this issue? After using Premiere for a while (maybe an hour or so straight) the audio meters peak indicator will not reset when you start/stop. What do I mean? If your audio level peaks or goes into the red, it stays there like it should letting you know that the levels had hit above +0db. This is normal. This is good. But usually when you stop the timeline and start again, that red peak indicator is reset and disappears. But for me, after prolonged use (which is say about an hour or so), the meters stop resetting and the red does not go away unless I click on the meter to make it disappear. It looks like this even after stopping/starting the timeline:
***Meters work fine for the first 30mins - hour or so of editing. Hitting stop and then start again resets the meters as it should.
***Eventually the peak indicator (see screenshot above) gets stuck and won't go away. The meters continue to work fine, but the red does not go away.
Only way to then reset it is by clicking on the meter itself. Restarting Premiere Pro CC will put everything back to normal again and it should work fine again...for a while...before its starts to lock up again. This issue was present in 7.0.0 as well as the newly updated 7.0.1 I'm on a 2011 27" iMac with 16gb of RAM. (I've submitted a bug report, but curious if this happens to others.)Jim Simon wrote:

As much as I wish all my audio were perfectly leveled at all times... You mix live weddings with DJ's that don't know their own equipment with layers of audio in post and its a recipe for some +0db audio.

No audio when importing AVCHD files form Sony A7 into premiere pro
for over a year i have tried to import AVCHD files into premiere pro.. I get no audio, I have tried everything, changing the file extension, re installing, importing through prelude, using the media browser. I have used every setting in the camera but to no avail...

How Do you import C100 footage into Premiere Pro CC
I just tried importing Canon C100 footage into Premiere Pro CC, but get no sound. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong and I pray I don't have to convert this footage before bringing it in. Is there a workflow anyone can recommend? Do I have to convert the footage first? Thanks, Lucian

PrPro should work natively with the Canon C100 footage ... it works with almost everything out there. And with the C100 shooting MP-4, AVCHD, & H.264, those are all handled easily by PrPro.
My question ... I would surmise (from what little info you include) you are shooting AVCHD? The reason I say this is that format splits audio & video into different files ... so it's a bit trickier to "import" than others that have the a & v in one file. Make sure you copied the whole top-leveL FOLDER and all sub-folders (not just the footage or contents of a folder) from the cam/card into the computer for AVCHD ... and then when you import into a project via the media browser your audio & video should be all connected by PrPro.
There have been numerous threads here where AVCHD users have "lost" their audio, only to find they'd simply left it behind by NOT copying all the folders & subfolders their camera had created. -
