Please help..
This signs dont work in Flash CS3.
Has anyone experienced the same problem?
What to do? The weird thing is that all of these signs works in other programs....

ctrl + alt + 7 = {
ctrl + alt + 8 = [
ctrl + alt + 9 = ]

Finally I have been able to embed fonts. Basically you should remember one thing. You can only embed the font to a dynamic text box if and only if you have added it in the library. The steps are as follows.
1) Press ctrl + l and bring the flash assets library.
2) Add new font, give it a name and select the font to add including its size style (bold italics etc).
3) Select the textbox. Apply your font. (All fonts from your library comes with a trailing * mark).
4) Select the glyphs to embed. Generally it can be all upper case letters, all lower case letters, numericals and punctuation marks.
and you are done.
But do remember that you can only do this to a dynamic text box

Arrow keys dont work on flash games

Hi, anyone had this problem? The arrow keys dont work when I
play flash games. Have downloaded latest version of flash (multiple
times) and still the same problem. I load up a flash game, then can
only use the mouse to play. Arrow keys just dont respond when used.
Arrow keys work fine on other programs, just flash is a
problem

I had the same problem and was looking around on the net for
help. I found a post that said to try using the numbered keypad
instead, as in 8 is up, 2 is down, 4 is left and 6 is right. It
worked for me so hopefully this will help you as well. :)

Flash 8 component not working in flash cs3

Hi, I have a flash 8 component (well, it was written for
flash 8 but it claims to be compatible with flash 7+).... which I
am trying to get to show up in the components panel in Flash CS3
trial version. I have the flash CS3 extension manager, it shows up
in there, but it doesn't show up in my components window in flash
cs3. What do I need to do to get the flash 8 component to show up
in flash CS3??

When you open a new file in Flash CS3, you got the option to
choose either AS2 file or AS3 file, the components are different on
each one.

How do I make timelines work independently - Flash CS3 AS2

I've just done my first website in Flash, got all the navigation and buttons to work, but just have a final problem. I want a slideshow timeline (about 30 tweened images to run independently on a loop throughout the website, whilst still being able to use the navigation. Is this possible? Help would be greatly appreciated.

If the work layer is supposed to be the images tweening, then you do not have it as a separate movieclip. Everything on that timeline you showed is on the same timeline. Try copying the frames of that layer (select, right click, choose Copy Frames), then create a new movieclip symbol (insert, new symbol, Movieclip), and then right click on the first frame in that new movieclip's timeline and select Paste Frames. You will now have a separate movieclip of the images layer that you can place on that other timeline in place of what's there now... it should resemble the Background layer when you have it planted in that main timeline.

Do Flash MX files work in Flash CS3?

I was going to download a template that requires Flash MX
2004, but I've only used Flash 8 and the new one. Will this file be
compatible? It's an .fla file so I'm assuming it'll work, but I'm
kinda new at this and figured I'd make sure. That and not having
used MX, I don't know if the features are the same.

No, they do not. Alchemy depends on features present only in
Flash Player 10, which CS3 can not export.

Urgent please help, this program should work

Help - Simple mask not working in Flash CS4

Hi everyone,
Thanks for taking a minute to read my post.
I am creating a very simple mask using motion tweening. I created some text on a layer and made it a masked layer. Then I created a mask layer which consists of a circle that will span across the text. When I play the movie the circle does not show up at all in the frames the mask layer spans (it's purple on a black background) and the circle does not move across the text like I told it to with the motion tweening. I don't know why it's not working. For some reason the circle isn't showing on the stage at all and it's not moving across the text. I don't know if I have it set up wrong on the timeline or what. Here's the steps I followed to create the mask:
1.insert a new layer in which I named it mask and click frame 1 on this layer
2. select the oval tools on the tools panel and set the stroke to none
3. set the fill color to purple
4. draw a circle and click the selection tool and drag a marquee around the circle to select it.
5. click insert on the menu bar, click motion tween then click ok in dialog box about converting it to a symbol to be tweened
6. click the last frame in the mask layer and drag the circle to the end of the line of text
7.click mask on the timeline to select the mask layer, click modify on the menu bar, point to timeline then click layer properties
8. verify the show check box is selected in the name section, click the lock check box to select it, click the mask option button in he type section, then click ok.
9. play the movie in which the circle object covers the text on the masked layer as it moves across the stage

Update 8-2-10: In play mode the text was still visible when it shouldn't be but once I tested the movie the mask worked correctly with the text. So problem solved

Thanks for all who viewed this. I finally figured out why it wasn't working. I had the mask layer locked. But now the circle is moving across the text but the text is viewable when it shouldn't be until the circle moves across it. How come it's doing this?

HELP! I cant work my flash player

this has been annoying me for quite a while; i installed
flash player 9 ages ago and it still works on some sites and doesnt
on others. and when it doesnt the site says "please install flash
player 9", and then i go to install it the little video thing that
says "You Have Successfully Installed Flash Player 9" is always
there and the site still wont let me in.
Just wondering if anyones experienced anything like thios and
if anyone knows how to fix it. thankyou

You should be able to go to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ and get access to the latest version of the Flash Player with some instructions for proper installation.

Need help - problems with embedding bold fonts (Flash CS3, AS3)

So I'm tearing my hair out over this one project where I'm
trying to embed Arial in a project so that it can be used by two
different dynamic text fields. Nothing I seems to do works. If I
try embedding the font using the Properties window and set the text
fields to bold, the text doesn't appear. If I debold the two text
fields, the text DOES appear - but of course, without the bold. If
I try to embed the font in the library, link it, and use two
different TextFormat objects to format the text fields, the text
shows up - but it isn't bold, even though I set the TextFormat.bold
property to true.
So what's going on here? How can I fix this?

In the Library, choose 'New Font'. Select 'Arial Bold' from
the 'Font' drop-down (don't just select Arial and click the bold
checkbox). Select the newly added from from the Library,
right-click and choose 'Linkage' from the context menu, and click
'Export for ActionScript'. The Linkage field should read eg 'Arial
Bold'.
If you want to apply Arial Bold to an entire text field,
select the field and, in the Font drop-down in the Property
Inspector, look for 'Arial Bold*' (with an asterisk): this is the
embedded version of Arial Bold that you just created.
So, you're using a specific Bold version of the font, not
merely setting a font to bold.

I am working with Flash CS3

I am running an animation mostly with line segments and filled circles moving around on screen.
I have a bunch of lineTo statments, and would like to place my circles at the end of these line segments.
When I draw circle and define it as a "movieclip" the base coordinate of the clip is the upper left hand corner of
a square encompassing the circle.
As a result all my circles are displaced slightly from where they need to be.
How do I fix this?

If I understand you correctly you need to center the coordinate system of your movie clips. To do this edit the movie clip and then select it's content and from the alignmend toolbox check "center to stage". Do this for all of the moviclips you need centered.

Flash CS3 - Resize HTML Window

Ok, I will word this in a different way. I posted earlier and

I am trying to make sure that my Flash CS3 Html web page
stays centered across various computer monitor
platforms.
I found this code in an earlier post and wondering if the
code will work.

I'm still not sure about exactly what it is that you want to
do. In any case, let me explain the various options that you have
to displaying your Flash movie in an HTML document.
In the Publish Settings window, in the HTML tab, there are
two settings that will effect how your movie displays itself. The
first is titled "Dimensions" and has three options: Match Movie,
Pixels, and, Percent. Match Movie will force your Flash movie to be
presented in its original dimensions. Pixels will allow you to set
an absolute size for the movie. Percent will set the movie's size
to a percentage of the available HTML window space.
The second option, "Scale", has four options: Default, No
Border, Exact Fit, and, No scale. Default will show your movie
scaled to fit the window, No Border will allow your movie to scale
without regard to the original proportions. Exact Fit will scale
the movie in proportion to its original size. No scale will keep
your Flash movie at its original size and resize matte around the
movie to fill the available space. Scale has no meaning unless you
use either Pixels or Percent in the Dimensions option setting.
If you want to fill the HTML window space, regardless of its
size, then use Pixels for the Dimension option and set the values
for the width and height to 100%. If you want your movie to fill
the window and enlarge or reduce as needed, then choose Default for
the Scale option. If you want your Flash movie to remain at its
original size and the matte to fill the available space in the HTML
window then choose No scale for the Scale option.
There are two other options on the Publish Settings screen
that seem as though they would be useful, but they are not. The
first is the HTML alignment option. This can be set for Default,
Left, Right, Top, or, Bottom. Most are meaningless. Any setting
except Right will force the Flash movie to sit in the upper left
corner of the HTML window if the Dimensions and Scale options are
left to their defaults. Using the Right setting will force the
Flash movie to the upper right corner of the HTML window.
The second option is the Flash Alignment option. This option
will position the Flash movie relative to matte. This option will
only take effect if you choose Pixels or Percent in the Dimensions
option and a Scale option of No scale.
There are no settings in the Flash Publising Options, or
anywhere else in Flash to set or change the size of the HTML
window, or to position that window on the user's monitor screen.
The size and location of the HTML window is controlled by the
browser.
You need to use Javascript control the browser window. This
will only work if the end user has Javascript enabled. To position
a browser window, you use the moveTo() function. A simple function
to position a window might look like this:

window.outerWidth will return the width in pixels of the HTML
window, including any chrome on the sides of the window.
Screen.width will return the width of the user's screen.
Self.moveTo(x,y) will move the current HTML window to pixel values
in the parens.
To change the size of the HTML window itself, you use the
resizeTo() function. Here's a simple example:

This example uses screen.availWidth instead of screen.width.
Screen.width will return the full width of the user's screen,
screen.availWidth will return the width minus any space occupied by
widgets that will not give up their space.
In order to completely fill the HTML window with your
content, you will also need to reduce the size of the window's
margins. You can use a simple CSS declaration in the head of the
HTML document to achieve this:

This will work for every browser, except Opera. Opera also
pads the window object. So, you'll need to add this line to account
for Opera users: padding: 0px.
You can use a combination of all of these settings to size
and position your Flash movie and the HTML window on your end
user's screen as you like.
