  • Using AEBS with non-wireless Mac mini to connect with modem wirelessly

Daughter has a Mac mini w/o wifi on 2nd floor and DSL wifi modem which must be located on 1st floor. Due to other old computer, modem is configured to 64-bit WEP for wireless.  Want to add mini to her network.  (I've discovered that 40-bit mode on AEBS is really 64-bit mode.)
I'm trying to use a new Airport Extreme Base station by connecting mini to AEBS via Ethernet cable.  Then I'm hoping to configure AEBS to connect to the DSL modem wirelessly - don't know if that is possible.  I tried setting AEBS to "join a wireless network".  It finds the DSL network, so I enter the modem's password. I've then gone through a number of configurations on AEBS but each time, when AEBS restarts, it doesn't get out of yellow blinking light or (on one try if I recall correctly) I got the green light - but then Airport Utility is never able to find AEBS and I end up starting from scratch by resetting AEBS.
    1) Can I even use AEBS to connect to a wireless network and have a Mac wired to it so the Mac can reach the Internet?
    2) if yes, what wireless mode should I set AEBS to?  What other settings do I need to get right?
    Thanks

This is a "n" version of AEBS.
Please refer back to the previous posts. I was talking about an AirPort Express (AX) as the device that has this special feature.
Ironically, the less expensive AirPort Express will do what you want with a special feature that allows it to "join" a wireless network and then enable the Ethernet port.
If you have an AirPort Express 802.11n, I will post the steps for you if you want them.

Here is situation. Two pc is connected to a phone line. I need to build a java application for both side (caller and receiver).

now the problem is i dont know how should i have to think to build this application. i need an initiating path.
i know how to work with "Socket" and "ServerSocket" in a lan.
but i dont know how to connect Java with modem.

  • Can't connect with modem through e2500 router

I have an old Speedstream 5100 modem hooked to my e2500 router. Everything works well except if for some reason my modem disconnects from ISP I can not log into it through the route to reconnect it. I must plug a direct cable into modem from computer run connect script then plug modem back into router all is fine again.
Any ideas why connecting to modem through router is blocked?

My Speedstream only has one Ethernet connection so I didn't realize that it looked like a router to the local network. I changed the mode to bridge on the Speedstream and setup PPoE on e2500 and reconnected to ISP on e2500 setup screen. That may solve the problem of reconnecting since now it is managed on the e2500.
One thing I now see is since I left the modem IP set to 192.168.0.X I can't get to it at all through the e2500. Is that because my DHCP in e2500 is setup with 192.168.1.X IP range so modem isn't addressed in my network? If I hook directly to Speedstream and change IP to 192.168.1.X will it become visible on local network?
You cannot access the modem anymore while you have an active PPPoE connection. For PPPoE the E2500 won't need an IP address from the modem thus it doesn't do DHCP on the WAN port and thus it never sees it. When you try to access 192.168.0.* addresses the E2500 will route it through the PPP tunnel to the ISP.
If you hook your computer directly to the SpeedStream it should automatically pick up a DHCP address (assuming the computer is still running on DHCP and not with a static IP and the SpeedStream does not automatically disable the DHCP server in bridge mode). If you have set up a static IP on the computer you have to change the IP address to a 192.168.0.* address.

  • Router looses connection with modem

My WRK54G wireless router keeps losing connection with my Comcast broadband modem. My connection with the router remains, but I lose internet connection. After rebooting the modem and router, my connection lasts no more than 5 minutes.
I tried to upgrade my Firmware but it did not install corrctly. (error during upgrade).
Any ideas on what I can try?

If you loose the connection on all the computers(wired and wireless) then, you should connect a computer straight to the modem and test the internet connection...See what happens and if you face the similar problem then it is not your router...
If you have stable connection straight from the modem, then, you should upgrade your router's firmware...
As the upgrade failed, you need to download TFTP Utility...Also download the router's firmware from here , make sure you select the correct version and then download the firmware...
Double click the tftp.exe file and click run :
For Server- Enter the IP Address of the router that you assigned.  By default, the router is 192.168.1.1...
For Password- Enter the password you assigned the router. By default, the router’s password is “admin”.
For File- Click the triple “…” button and browse for the .bin firmware file...
Click Upgrade button to start upgrading.  A progress bar should show up to show the progress.
Once the Upgrade is done press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...

  • Connection with Modem?

Might be very silly but, Do I still need to have connection to my Modem, when the iMac has the airport connected?
I'm currently not connected to the Modem, and the internet works very fine with the airport connection, can i cancel the Modem subscription?
    Thanks for helping me.

    Hi,
Yes keep the modem to negotiate a connection with your ISP. Airport is Apple's name for wireless (the signal, not the modem) using what's known as an Airport Card inside your Mac to communicate wirelessly with other wireless capable devices in range of the signal. An Airport Extreme Base Station for instance provides the Access Point for obtaining internet wirelessly but it does not negotiate ISP ADSL or Cable connections, for this you will still need a relevant broadband or cable modem. Often modems are equipped wireless access points too.
Deb, if you are currently using the internet wirelessly but don't have a wireless modem or base station your Mac will have discovered and connected itself to an access point that is not your own (such as public wireless or even a neighbours internet). If you need to remedy this simply switch off Airport using the triangle in the menubar. To answer your question on security, wireless technology is not as secure as wired but it can be made safe enough for use depending on how you connect to the wireless access point, preferably using encryption and MAC address filtering together. Pls post back if I've misunderstood your situation or if you need more detail. The name of your modem would help in this case.

  • TS1398 Not very helpful as I still cannot connect with my Netgear network with my iPad.

I have tried all the suggestions.  I cannot download the previous iOS and am sure that the update iOS 6 is the whole crux of the problem.  I cannot download as I cannot connect with the network.  Any suggestions?  I am a novice and need detailed help!

Is your N network using 5 GHz only?  The tech specs for the iPhone 4S lists that it can only connect to N networks at 2.4 GHz.  The iPad 2 specs do not list that restriction.

  • Help in setting up internet connection with AOL

I just purchased a MacBook this week (already have an iMac). I have phone line internet service with AOL as my provider. I purchased the modem from Apple to connect to my phone line. I have tried to use the SetUp Asst. to connect but I am not very computer literate and can't seem to get set up. I need very basic directions. Also, how do I use wifi with the MacBook? I have never used it before - I don't know how to configure it or get it started either. Any help would be tremendously appreciated. Sorry to be so illiterate!
    Sunny

    Welcome To Discussions Sunny!
At what point in the setup are you?
Do you have the AOL application installed on the MacBook?
Do you have an existing AOL account?
Do you have the External Modem connected to the MacBook, and also to the phone jack in the wall?

  • Help!! Cant stay connected with Vista.

I have had Verizon DSL for a few years and never a problem. Just recently bought a new computer with Visa ( was using XP ) and my ethernet connection goes in and out. I have a Westell 327w modem. Called the Verizon help and couldnt get anything resolved. I even thought at first it was the ethernet card in the computer but exchanged it and same thing.. All the lights on the front of the modem are on (internet, dsl, wireless, etc.) except the ethernet which flashes on and off when I cant connect. Sometimes it will stay on for the whole day and sometimes off and on all day long. Have to shut off and unplug numerous times to stay connected. Have even hooked old computer back up and it works fine. Is there a patch to download for Vista? A friend said he heard of compatibility problems with Vista and DSL. Can anyone help?

#1 Use ipconfig /all on Vista. See the details at http://www.ncsu.edu/resnet/windows/ipconfig/vista.php
#2 The Default Gateway that you found with ipconfig /all go to with your web browser.
#3 You will be asked for the user name and password. Please enter in the current user name and password for the router.
    b) The Default Password is in the manual/user's guide.
I am not sure, but I think the Default user name and password "admin" and "password" respectively.
#4 After logging in to it, press the print screen button on your keyboard.
Go to MS Paint. Go to Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Paint.
Since I do not have Vista - source of info, http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/help/f5feb1df-8dd7-4ab0-9f65-3c1c89a329ab1033.mspx

Save the file as a JPG/JPEG (use "save as file type" as need be).

  • Built in Ethernet not staying connected with modem

    Hi,
My old Power PC G4 will not say connected to my modem. I have never had any issues in the past, but if the G4 goes to sleep, or I turn it off, I have lost all settings and connections. I locked preferences, but nothing has worked. Is there something I am doing wrong? Is this a hardware issue?
    Thanks for any help!
    Matt

Hi Mateo, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Tough to tell if it's HW or not yet.
Sometimes having an all OFF Location can help, thanks to Gnarlodious...

  • Need help getting LG TV wifi connection with Airport Express?

I can successfully hook the tv up to the network using the dongle PIN method on the Airport Express. It works fine until I turn the tv off. Then I have to go through the whole setup procedure again. Very frustrating. How can I get the Airport to allow the tv access when I turn the tv back on without having to do the setup again? I did not limit access to 24 hours. Not sure what I am missing. Thanks in advance for any and all help.

The dongle is the little usb device that makes the tv wifi capable, it is assigned a unique PIN that I input into the airport express utility so my wireless network will allow it access. All that works fine, but I have to redo the whole setup everytime I turn the tv off. Have you any experience with this and can offer a hint on how to allow the tv access each time I turn it on?

  • Configuring Java DB Connections with a DAD

Is there any possible way in OAS/OC4J a Java web app could access a DAD to retrieve connection information?
    Thanks.

    Hi ,
I have already solved the problem by simply defining a different database user each db connection is based on....
However , the question is how could i solve - if i could- this kind of problem , simply by defining the same db user on all db connections.....If i have understood your post this could be done via the use of BPEL Process Manager.....
However , i thank you very much for your interest.....
