We cannot know without some system information. Could simply be that your system doesn't meet the requirements. also make sure to run with sufficient user privileges so the auxiliary services that control licensing and otehr stuff can initialize...

Help I can't open safari after downloading Yosimite

    Remove Genieo manually:
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203987
First follow these steps to stop the Genieo or InstallMac processes, if they're running. Be particularly careful to restart your Mac when instructed.
    Open the Activity Monitor app:
You can use Spotlight (Command-Space) to search for "Activity Monitor," then choose Activity Monitor from the search results.
In the Activity Monitor window, click the CPU tab, then click Process Name at the top of that column to sort the list alphabetically.
Look for the process "Genieo." Select it, then click the Force Quit button in the upper-left corner of the window.
Look for the process "InstallMac." Select it, then click the Force Quit button.
    Quit Activity Monitor.
From the Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder.
Type /private/etc/launchd.conf in the text field, then press Return.
If the file is on your Mac, a window opens with the file you searched for already selected. Drag the file to the Trash.
Restart your Mac, then continue to the next steps, below.Remove the files related to Genieo:
Select each item in the list below, starting with /Applications/Genieo.
    Choose Edit > Copy.
From the Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder.
Choose Edit > Paste to paste the line you copied into the text field, then press Return.
If the file is on your Mac, a window opens with the file you searched for already selected. Drag the file to the Trash.
Repeat the steps above for each item in the following list. If you get a message that the folder can't be found, continue to the next item in the list./Applications/Genieo
    /Applications/InstallMac/Applications/Uninstall Genieo
    /Applications/Uninstall IM Completer.app~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.completer.download.plist
    ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.completer.update.plist/Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieoinnovation.macextension.plist
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieoinnovation.macextension.client.plist/Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.engine.plist
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.completer.update.plist~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.completer.ltvbit.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.genieoinnovation.macextension.client.plist/Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/com.genieoinnovation.macextension.client
    /usr/lib/libgenkit.dylib/usr/lib/libgenkitsa.dylib
    /usr/lib/libimckit.dylib/usr/lib/libimckitsa.dylib
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.genieo.global.settings.plist~/Library/SavedState/com.genieo.RemoveGenieoMac.savedState
Now do the same for each folder in the following list. When these folders open, no file will be selected. Instead, select all items (Command-A) in the folder and drag them all to the Trash.~/Library/Application Support/Genieo/
    ~/Library/Application Support/com.genieoinnovation.Installer/~/Library/Saved Application State/com.genieo.RemoveGenieoMac.savedState/
Restart your Mac, then continue to the next steps, below.
From the Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder.
Type /Library/Frameworks/GenieoExtra.framework in the text field, then press Return.
If the file is on your Mac, a window opens with the file you searched for already selected. Drag the file to the Trash.
Restart your Mac, then choose Finder > Empty Trash to permanently remove the files.

Have you run the iPhoto Library Upgrader? You need to direct it to the location of your old iPhoto Library by clicking the "Choose Library" button in the lower right corner of the panel you are seeing when the upgrade starts.

  • What makes a file open automatically after download? I'm trying to stop it. I don't know whether Firefox or Sumatra controls this.

When I downloaded a .pdf file, it opens automatically after download. I want to put it back to where I have to click on it in the download window in order to open it.
This happens with every .pdf file I download.
I am using Sumatra 1.5.1 to view pdf files.

Change the '''Action''' for that file type.

  • Help with opening Photoshop?

I just downloaded the 30 day free trial with Photoshop, and it's showing up in my apps but only with the option to 'view tutorials' - I can't actually open Photoshop to start trying it out.
I am sure I am missing something simple but I can't work out what!
Any help would be most appreciated, thanks.

Are you in the Creative Cloud app, and is this what you see?
That only means it's installed. The CC app is just for managing and checking status.
To actually open the program, you do that in the normal way - Start Menu > All Programs (and from there you can put a shortcut on the taskbar).
    EDIT: assuming Windows here, obviously...

  • Having Trouble Opening things after downloading

I have had my macbook for about 6 months and about half the things I download won't open after I download them. When I try to open them, they just download over and over again.
The latest thing is Flash Player, which I need to take my last class to graduate from college. Please help. I don't want to have to go to the library at school every time I need this application.

Sounds like we need to clearly establish what's happening!
With Firefox & Safari, a "downloads" window opens when you download a file of any kind. If it's an application installer, you can double-click the icon in the downloads list once the download finishes and the installer should run.
So for Adobe's FlashPlayer, you'd go here:
    http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
Click the "agree and install now" button, and then go find the file (probably in your "downloads" folder (home>downloads) or on your desktop. After unzipping the file, you click the disk image (the .dmg) and open the installer. Once the disk image mounts (it should appear under "Devices" in the Finder window), click on it and then open up the .pkg file.
Hopefully that helps you a bit. If not, please be sure to clearly outline what you are doing and post images if possible. You can take screen shots by holding commandshift3. The images will be on the desktop and can be hosted on another website, such as photobucket.com or imageshack.us.
Also, is there any link you could give us to see if we can view the pages properly? Are you certain they should work on a Mac?

  • Cannot open iPhoto after downloading yosemite

After downloading Yosemite, I could not open iPhoto.
    OSX Yosemite 10.10
    1. Click on iPhoto icon
    2. pop-up opens stating "To open your library with this version of iPhoto, it first needs to be prepared". I click "Learn more".
    3. Library Upgrader opens and I click on Download.
    4. I double click on the box icon in the new window.
    5.  "This tool prepares libraries from iPhoto 7 or earlier so they can be upgraded with the current version of iPhoto" opens in a new box. I click "continue"  and agree with the agreement.
    6. Click "install" in a new window and "install" again.
    7. "The installation was completed successfully" appears.
    8. I click on iPhoto icon and the process starts from the beginning.
I have tried this app. four times.

Locate your iPhoto library and then use the iPhoto 6 and later: Rebuilding the iPhoto library - Apple Support link for instructions and then test.
If you still have troubles reset both the SMC and PRAM 2-3 times back to back. You can find instructions for this by clicking iMac SMC and PRAM reset
Post back with the results after rebuilding your library and doing the resets if you need to.

  • Can't open Photoshop after installing Yosemite

Hi all, Not sure if this in the right place? I've got a Macbook Pro and have recently just installed the Yosemite operating system. After installing it, I have tried to open Photoshop but it is not allowing me to do so. Photoshop tells me to install Java 6.0 - even though I've already done this twice! Can anyone advise please?

Did you delete Photoshop's preferences before re-installing? If you didn't, then you ended up rightwhere you started after re-installing.  Uninstalling and re-installing does not delete the corrupted preference files.
In addition, do not forget what I said:
[…delete Photoshop's preferences before re-installing…] thenUninstall Photoshop, run Adobe CS Cleaner Tool, Repair Permissions with Apple's Disk Utility, install Photoshop from scratch, update it, run Repair Permissions with Apple's Disk Utility AGAIN
Finally, apply all the available updates again, as the re-install wil instal the ancient, original CS5 version.
Have you actually done all of this as already instructed in this thread?  If not, then please do not post again until you have done so.

I am running Windows7 Home Edition 32bit and after unsuccessfully uploading the latest Photoshop CC upgrade I cannot open photoshop and am getting the following error message.

How do I solve this problem.

Sounds like you have a bad install - some of the libraries are damaged or the wrong version.
Reinstalling may be your only hope.
