Help to reinstall memeo to enable back up of Mac HD

I installed a 2Tb FreeAgent GoFlex Desk, carefully following directions. After a few minutes the lights went off- a complaint of a product reviewer. At the Seagate site I was able to download a fix for the problem. I tried to show that HD was working by dragging and dropping the largest folder, the Mac HD, into the External HD folder. When there was no drop in available space I dragged it back to its original icon. I was met with two successive gray screens, with a message to shut down and reboot.
Nothing helped but reloading the OS. Hours  later with most of everything working, except Adobe Flash Player and what I came to learn was memeo. I was notified by Adobe, of the archived software program would work. Seagate sent bundle including memeo. Neither I nor Seagate techs accessing my computer could either install memeo or get the HD manager to recognize the Seagate HD.
Please you help me install memeo or whatever necessary and get the external HD recognized by the manager and so the Mac HD can be backed up. Isn’t memeo included in the Panther or Tiger installation discs? Thank you.

Do these make installation of memeo superfluous? Would I need memeo for daily back up?
From what I gather, you couldn't pay me to use Memeo, nor actually a Seagate enclosure, nor many USB only drives, (USB is not bootable on PPC Macs).
I've used maybe a few dozen backup Apps on the Mac, and I'd personally judge only Apple's Time Machine worse than that one.
If you had it to do all over again, you'd get a case with Firewire, one with an Oxford chipset, not containing a Green Drive, not a Seagate Drive, not less than 7200 RPM drive, & a 32MB Cache, not with a One-Button touch feature, ( not a Bus powered drive like...

Does it show up in Disk Utility? Can you repair it there?

  • HT4907 Password Issue when attempting to enable Back to My Mac in iCloud Preferences - HELP?

Since upgrading to Mountain Lion, I have a problem enabling Back to My Mac. When I try and enable B2MM in the iCloud preferences window, I am asked to enter my Apple ID password. It says the password is incorrect, even though it IS 100% correct. I've even tried resetting my password (so that the password lives up to the latest security requirements for passwords, etc). So, it's definitely correct, and I'm able to login to my Apple account here (on this Apple laptop as well as on my iPad and iPhone)... it's not an issue when I log in anywhere else... I am only told my password is incorrect when attempting to enable Back to My Mac in the iCloud preferences pane.
    Help?
    Many thanks!

  • HT4908 how do I enable back to my mac

I'm not sure how to enable bac to my mac laptop. I'm not sure Icloud set up correctly.  I have a mac desktop and a mac laptop and would like to share information.  Having trouble with the icloud back to my mac set up.

I am able to use Back to My Mac (BTMM) after obtaining an iCloud account.  To get both File Sharing and Screen Sharing to work between my Mac Mini and my Mac Pro (both running Lion 10.7.2), here is what I did:
On both machines (or however many Macs you have), click on System Preferences --> Users & Groups
Make sure that the email address listed next to "Apple ID" is your iCloud ID (i.e. [email protected])
Also go to System Preferences --> Sharing and make sure that File Sharing and Screen Sharing are both checked.
After you have changed these settings on each Mac, start Finder.  Your shared Mac icon should be visible in the sidebar under Shared.  If not, go into the Finder Preferences and under the Sidebar tab, make sure Back to My Mac is checked under the Shared heading.
If you still have problems, try restarting both Macs.
To use File Sharing, start Finder and click the icon for your shared Mac under Shared.  In the top right corner of the window, there is a button labeled, "Connect As..."  Click this and enter your iCloud ID and password.  To use Screen Sharing, click "Share Screen..." and enter the same information.
    I hope this helps,

  • Back to my mac - iCloud enabled, but not working

Last year I made very regular use of Back to My Mac.  Time and again I had no problems using my Mac Book Pro and connecting to my Mac Pro back home - did this from all over the place.
Then last month, my DSL router died and I had to upgrade.   The Netgear switch I had used stopped letting Back to My Mac work - turned out there was a glitch and I was one of the few who had a working unit, but not that it had tanked I could not get it back.  All systems would get an error when trying to enable Back To My Mac instructing me to review my settings, enable UPnp, etc...
So now I have a new Netgear R6300 and my MiniMac, Mac Pro and Mac Book Pro all can have Back to My Mac checked without an error showing up.  Can uncheck and re-check and the spinning wheel does it's thing and the box shows properly with no error.   Great - but apparently not really.   All these systems are in the same network, so of course they can see each other from within my network - no need for Back To My Mac at all.
But as soon as I try and connect from outside my network I can't.   The Netgear R6300 provides a guest wireless network (that can't see or share the home network), so I can grab another IP address and effectively be outside my home with the Mac Book Pro.   Again, no error when I look at iCloud - and I can uncheck and recheck the Back to My Mac box and the handshaking necessary seems to be fine - but I do not get my home systems appearing in the Finder Shared list as they once did.
The systems in my house can't see the Mac Book Pro either.
As I have a group of static IP addresses from Centurylink I can use a fireware adapter and directly connect a network cable to the M1000 DSL modem - and directly pull one of my other IP addresses for the Mac Book Pro and have it completely out from under the Netgear R6300.   But the situation is the same - the Mac Pro and Mini Mac both appear to be configuered for Back to My Mac (can check, un-check and recheck without an error), but they can't see the Mac Book Pro.   Likewise the Mac Book Pro appears properly set for Back To My Mac - but it can't see either the Mac Pro or the Mini Mac.
It makes no difference whether I enable the Centurylink M1000 DSL firewall or have it disabled.   UPnP is activated on the Netgear R6300, and if I turn it off I get an error when trying to set up Back to My Mac with any system funneling through the R6300 that the connection can't be made and I should check things like UPnP.    So when it is enabled there certainly seems to be at least some sort of semi proper handshaking going on.
For diagnostic purposes only, I have stretched a really long Cat 6 cable accross the room and plugged the Mac Pro directly into the M1000 DSL too - pulling yet another static IP from my assigned block.  Now the Mac Book Pro and the Mac Pro can see each other via Back to My Mac - but neither can see the Mini Mac, and it of coruse can't see either of them.
I am not wedded to Netgear, but I have had lousy luck with Linksys and Asus - the Asus.  The Mini Mac is a server (web and email) and Asus would not properly route mail to the Mini Mac and their Tech support was both difficult to reach and unable to explain why, just go try another.   The Linksis EA6500 was dead out of the box, and again Tech support suggested to just go get another one.   Asus was truly horrible to work with, but I would try another Linksis - but I have had flakey history with Belkin and Linksis which is why I went to Netgear.
So I know that the Centurylink M1000 does not appear to be the issue as devices connected directly to it can enjoy Back to My Mac.   I know that the Netgear R6300 appears to be working but clearly there must be something wrong somewhere.
I don't seem to be caught in a double NAT issue, and I don't have extreme firewall issues in play.   Much as I would like and intend to put stiffer rules in place, right now I just want to get thigns working.
Clearly I am missing something.  Suggestions - even for a different router know to be working in a small but robust network with cable and wireless would be most welcome.   All three systems are running OS X 10.8.3 - the Mini Mac also running server.  Both the Netgear R3600 and the Centurylink M1000 have the latest firmware.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Is the Extreme in bridge or router mode.. most people are finding it has to be in router mode to work although I don't think that is specific in the instructions..
You should not need to access the extreme to get into the Mac though.. do you have a hard disk on the AE you are trying to access??

  • Back To My Mac: Can access Mac, can't access Time Capsule

I have a Time Capsule and also a Macbook Air behind an ATT modem/router. I have enabled Back To My Mac on both. I also clicked Enable File Sharing and set a password. From a friend's house, I can log in to MobileMe and see both the Mac and the Time Capsule in my Finder. Here's the problem: I can then connect to my Mac's disk and browse files, but I can't connect to the TC disk at all, it just says "Connection Failed". I don't know if the router supports uPNP or NAT-PMP, and I don't have the ability to set up port forwarding, so maybe I'm out of luck. I guess what confuses me is that I can get to my Mac, so I would assume the same protocols are in use to get to the Time Capsule. Any thoughts on what I might have done wrong? Thanks for the help.
    -ts-

I can even use Airport Utility to configure the remote Time Capsule, but I can't seem to access the disk on it for a remote Time Machine backup. I've Googled and Binged and can't seem to find any reason why this wouldn't work. Anyone?
    Thanks,

  • Can't get back to my mac to work when on the road. Have you?

Read all the Back to my mac and how easy it is to set up and use. NOT!
It only works when you have the laptop and the G5 right next to each other. Which is of no use!
It does NOT share at all and the apple supt and store were no help. I' m able to print just fine anywhere in the house or even outside on my network. It will not share when I connect my laptop to another network. The G5 is on. I only have NAT enable on the 2wire.
I have the 2Wire with the wireless enable and disabled it doesn't work either way. The only reason I got the airport and assoc card was to be able to use back to my mac when I am only the road.
ANYONE ELSE ABLE TO GET IT O WORK.
That problem one two is about networking with a windows computer that my brother has doesn't work either!

  • Back to my mac -- connect as guest is default

I have a couple of computers using 'back to my mac' screen sharing and file sharing with no problems (powerbooks, ibooks, mac mini(intel), and old G4). I just got a macbook pro and configured it with the same mobile me login info, etc, sync all mail/bookmarks/etc with no problems. However, when trying to connect to all other computers using screen sharing in the finder, it defaults to connect as guest. My mobile me credetials don't get used -- I have to specifically use an existing username/password from the maching i'm trying to connect to.
When I enable back to my mac, I do get an error saying teh router isn't configured for upnp, but it is -- four other machines are using it no problem this way with no problems.
Its only this laptop that has an issue. Firewall is off for all of this.
    Any suggestions?

I can't turn File Sharing off. I still want to file share. But I just don't want to connect to this "share" using the information that the Finder is defaulting to, and autoconnecting with. There doesn't seem to be a way to do this. I went through my entire KeyChain and I couldn't find anything that would account for this. It's as if the Finder thinks that because I connected to this share using my appleID once, it now defaults to this every time, and I have to actually disconnect and then reconnect with the login info that provides me the level of access that I require. Not sure if this makes sense.
I do appreciate the help. Thanks.

  • After 10.10.1 update Back to My Mac is still not working

When installing Yosemite Back to My Mac stopped working, Before the update it always worked perfectly. Tried the update 10.10.1, it is still not working. Any idea ?

I too am having a problem, I've done all the troubleshooting, I've gone through all my time capsules settings, I've tried re-enabling back to my mac on both computers, removing apple id from time machine and re adding, the problem is not on my home network, if I'm on my home network it works great, when i go to work or school and try to connect, its worked twice, other wise it won't connect. I've tried messing around with my energy saving preferences, my iMac and macbook pro do not have the problem where it says Travis, Travis (2), originally this occurred but since changing the network sharing preferences that no longer occurs, there is nothing on this topic that has worked and i am stuck. i have an iMac 5k that i bought and restored from a time machine back from my macbook pro and bought a new time machine router. any help would be great. I'm using 10.10.1 and have the correct firmware update for the time capsule.

  • How to use back to my mac from iOS?

I have enabled back to my mac on my macbook running ML and have enabled the same for my user ID in the airport express router to which the macbook pro is connected.
i would like t know how i can access the shared folder from my ios devices while
    within the wifi network
outside the wifi network over the ios devices 3g internet.
tried a lot to figure it out since many months now.

Just some additional info.  For basic back to my mac to work you need a router (any brand) that supports UPNP or NAT-PMP - or an apple airport router device (Airport Extreme, Time Capsule or Airport Express) (which must be configured as your primary router - and not in "bridge" mode).  You need at least two Macs - one in your house - and one as the remote device.  You need to set up your iCloud id on both Macs and enable Back to My Mac in iCloud preferences - using the same icloud id for both Macs.  You also need to ensure that you have enabled at least "Screen Sharing" in the sharing preferences of both Macs - and optionally enable File Sharing.  You will see the Mac in the other Mac's shared pane - in Finder - both locally and remotely.
If you are using an Apple router (airport extreme, express or time capsule) - the icloud id's that you enter on airport device (via airport utility) - are only for the purpose of remote sharing of drives and printers attached to that airport device - and are not related to the back to my mac functionality.  If you don't need to remote share the printers or drives directly attached to the airport device (via USB) - then you do not need to enter any iCloud id's on the airport device itself.
For example - you have a time capsule set up as a router.  You have 3 people in your house that want to remotely access files on the Time Capsule's drive(s).  You would enter your iCloud id, along with the iCloud id's of other household members.  You would then all be able to independently share the time capsule drive remotely.
With an Airport Express router - you would only be able to share a USB printer attached to the Airport Express.
As for iPad - there may be 3rd party apps that would mimic the Back to My Mac functionality - but to the best of my knowledge there is no Apple-provided Back to My Mac app for the iPad.

I just bought a brand new Airport Time Capsule. The internet works. It's the sole router in the network. I wanted to set up Back to My Mac. When I try to enter my apple id and credentials, I get a cryptic error: "An error occurred signing in."

  • Can you setup both VPN server and Back to My Mac on Lion Server?

I have been trying to figure out if this is possible for some time. Can you use both Back to My Mac and VPN server services at once on a OS X Server?
So far here is what I have found:
    - According to http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1629  Back to My Mac and VPN use the same UDP ports(500,4500)
    - I have been able to get my VPN service working by removing all access for Back to My Mac(in System Preferences->iCloud) as well as removing all "Mobile Me" access on our AirPort Extreme.
The moment I try to add an account to access the network via Mobile Me(ie Back to My Mac) on the Airport Extreme, I am no longer able to make a VPN connection.
Checking the Service VPN Logs, no log entry is shown for the failed connection.
    So, my questions are:
    1. Has anyone been able to get these two working on the same server/network?
    2. Is there any way to change the default ports used by the VPN server service on Lion Server?
Thank you to anyone that can provide any suggestions.

Just as FYI....I just started using iCloud and tried the "back to my mac" on a mac server that is my VPN server.
Enabling "back to my Mac" prevents the VPN from being useable.
Disable "back to my mac" and the VPN works again, as verified from both another MAC and an iPhone.
