Help to reset monitor resolution?

Greetings,
I have a G5 Quad with an Ati x1900 graphics card running into a 52" Samsung LCD. This was working fine through a dvi-vga adaptor until I switched the monitor resolution from 1920X1080 to 1360X768 which is not supported by the monitor .....blank screen. I plugged another 19" monitor into the other output on the card and both work fine but as soon as I remove the 19" the 52" reverts back to the unsupported mode.
I have reset the pram and tried booting in safe mode but that did not help me.
From bootup the 52" works fine until just before the login screen, then it switches resolution......blank screen.
Would anyone know where these settings would be housed in OS 10.5.1 so I can modify (delete) them?
Any ideas would be much appreciated
Thanks
Gareth

Thanks so much for your help.
Not wishing to play around in single user mode, I opted to delete the files /Library/Preferences/com.apple.windowserver.plist
/Users/username/Library/Preferences/ByHost/Preferences/com.apple.windowserver.xx xx.plist
using my PowerBook over the Firewire with the G5 in target disc mode.
This worked a treat
Thanks again
Gareth

  • U110 How to Retain External Monitor Resolution

I'm trying to help someone with an IdeaPad U110 and an external monitor.  The Lenovo allows me to login with an external keyboard and monitor but as soon as it boots Windows, the external monitor goes dark and I have to choose FnF3 each time to re-enable the external monitor and then reset the resolution to 1680 X 1050.  Isn't there a way to get the Lenovo to retain these settings so I don't have to do this each time I boot it up?  THANKS!!

    Hi JLNH,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
    Please try these steps.
1 – Click the Start button.
    2 – Click Control Panel.
3 – Click Appearance and Personalization.
4 – Click Adjust screen resolution.
Now once you have the resolution page
    1 Select your exrernal monitor
2 Set the display type to duplicate
    3 Place a check
Restart the computer and check if it remains on.
    Hope this helps
    Cheers!

  • My Mac mini no longer detects my monitor resolution

My Mac Mini has stopped being able to detect the resolution of my monitor, which is a 1680x1050 Acer widescreen.  1680x1050 is also no longer a choice of resolutions under 'Displays' in 'System Preferences' so I cannot select my monitor resolution manually.  I suspect that there is a bug somewhere in a recent update which has broken support for my monitor.  Is there an official channel by which I can report this bug?  Has it been reported already?  Is there an ETA on a fix?  This renders my Mac more or less unusable.

It's unlikely that the upgrades had anything to do with the problem, slim superdrives are just not all that reliable.
You might try a few tricks before taking it in for service or springing for a Mac compatable external DVD drive.
    1. Reset the SMC > Resetting the System Management Controller

We are getting this alert on a fair few of our VMs with VHDXs and Dynamic VHDs. Everything seems OK but I am not sure what this actually means and what I need to do to resolve the issue. How do I reset the error count if that is what is required? Thanks

But I am getting this alert from SCOM and SCOM has no information about the alert for me to find out what to do - thought that was the point of SCOM to let you know of problems and how to resolve them. :)
The alert is coming from the Error Count Monitor that is part of the Hyper-V Management Pack Extensions (v 4.0.0.0)
I have tried looking in the Event Logs on the Host and there doesn't seem to be any storage related errors there. I am trying to establish if this is a false positive, why it is happening and if it is safe to override and ignore.
There is nothing on the Product Knowledge tab and nothing on the Alert Context other than what I have already mentioned (see below).
    Thanks for responding.

  • Win8.1-TV Monitor resolution need 1360x768 only allow 1280x720 & 1920x1080! Works fine in Win7!

    Win8.1-TV Monitor resolution, need 1360x768 only allow 1280x720 & 1920x1080! Works fine in Win7!
I replace my win7 pc with a win8.1 pc. the TV monitor I was using with Win7 worked fine with 1360x768 resolution, however I don't have that choice with the Win8.1. I tried for months now with default & custom settings. I think is that Win8.1 sees the
display as Funai TV (Sylvania) where as Win7 as the Intel video display driver.
Some suggest edit the monitor.ini, not sure if that will work!
    Any help is appreciated!

    Hi, ecscomp,
Based on my research, the resolution of second monitor should be managed by PC's graphic card driver, not Windows. That's to say, if the graphic card driver doesn't had a correspond setting to change display resolution settings, I'm afraid we have no way
to change the resolution to 1366x768.
    Thanks for your understanding.

  • Reset monitors all at once with a script

I am getting numerous SCOM Heath Monitor alerts for the following 2 conditions:
    AD Domain Availability Health Degraded
    AD Site Availability Health Degraded
I have searched the internet for scripts to reset them each all at once. I have found a couple of scripts and ran them in the SCOM Shell and they say that that are resetting the alerts but in actuality, they don't.
The scripts I used were found at these 2 sites:
    (url)http://blogs.technet.com/b/ken_brumfield/archive/2010/06/23/making-the-world-greener-one-monitor-at-a-time-_2d00_-reset-scom-monitors-enmasse.aspx(/url)
    (url)http://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/SCOM-2012-Batch-reset-63a17534(/url)
Does anyone know of a script that actually works for this purpose.

Use this simple PS, I am using this daily to reset health of closed alerts - please ensure you close the alerts as the script will only detect the closed alerts generated by the monitors
Works well for my purpose - hope this helps...

  • Adjusting for monitor resolution

Hi all. Just a quick question...hopefully it is in the right
    topic.
I think I remember reading here a long time ago, that you
could write a script that would have read the monitor resolution
and load the approperiate index.thml file for that screen and
viewing size. Was I just dreaming or is it possible to write a code
that can detect monitor size (like 800x600 or 1024x768) and load
index.html that is right for the particular monitor the user is
    using. ?
Thanks for any infor/help on this.

open flash help, select ActionScript section and type in
    "screen resolution".

  • Scaling dimensions of controls according to monitor resolution in Labview ver 8.6 (Windows)

Hello.  I got a VI containing a lot of controls and indicators; the Vi was made on a 1920x1080 resolution and it occupies the full screen.
I need a way to automatically scale all controls as window scales in different (minor) monitor resolution.  Vi settings make controls not to scale properly and to loose their relative position.
In the past, I used multiple VI to distribute controls, now I cannot.
What' s the better way to solve the problem?
    Thanks in advance

  • Using PSE 8 to Reset iPhoto Resolution

In order to print a book with photos I need to reset the photo resolution to 300 dpi or ppi. The photos are in my iPhoto library.
In the past I could send the photos to PSE for editing via iPhoto> Preferences>In Application>PSE. Now my only choice for editing is iPhoto or Aperture.
Is there a workaround for this or another way to reset the resolution of an iPhoto photo?
    Thank you

You don't need to do any resetting.  As long as you use the largest version of the photos possible they resolution will be automatically set.

  • Why is my user interface monitor resolution dependent?

The user interface I created with Labview is screen resolution dependent. That means I built a user interface application exe on my computer. But when I run the exe on another computer with lower resolution, the application window was enlarged and some of the controls were cut off. I have had the problem all the time and it bacame a famous issue in our engineering group . By the way, I didn't check any box in the VI Property\Window Size window. Can you help me to fix this problem?

I use Labview 7.1.1 and had this issue, the fix is under VI Options.. goto Window Size and check "Maintain proportions of window for different monitor resolutions", there is also a check box for "Scale all objects on panel as the window resizes".
Give these a try they should work for you.

  • Wrong VGA monitor resolution set on desktop

How can I change the monitor resolution before start commences. The resolution that the desk top is set for will not display on my monitor and therefore I can not reset it. I need to interrupt startup to reset the monitor resolution before it sets up the desk top. How can I do this?

You can boot into safe mode (hold down Shift key during bootup until you see the spinning gear) which will force a generic, low resolution (SVGA I think) which should work with most any monitor. However, I don't know if you can alter resolutions from safe mode and have them stick during a normal boot. Good luck.

  • How to reset monitor without a monitor?

I just installed a new LG 23-inch LED monitor on my G5. The display defaulted to 1600x1200 which doesn't work well because the monitor only supports up to 1080 height. So I selected 1600x1080 but it pushed the image about 500 pixels to the right for some reason. Curious, I selected 1600x1040 to see what would happen. The screen went black and it says "D-Sub Out of Range" and it won't return. How can I reset the resolution to something else when there's no screen?

    Hi
Try resetting the Parameter RAM or PRAM for short - Pronounced PeeRAM. Power down your workstation by depressing the power on button. Power it back on by pressing the power button. Immediately depress these four keys. Command, alt, P and R simultaneously. The alt key is the key sandwiched between the ctrl and command (apple) keys immediately to the left of your keyboard. Keep these keys depressed until you hear the boot chime again. Do this a further two times. After the third boot chime release the keys.
Hopefully the monitor resolution should reset itself back to its default.

My other disappointment is the font and menu bar size.  I had no issues in PSE3 which is where I am coming from but that I was being smart buying the latest package for W7 64-bit.
Adobe must know that anyone working with these programs works in higher monitor resolutions.   Can Adobe tell me if they will create a patch so I can see what the heck I am doing. I really do not want to use the program since I can hardly make out the icos at 1650 resoluton.
I had read that it has something to do with cross platform and therefore the use system font is not available.but it is on Organizer.  Why not on me Premier and Photoshop elements? And I hear this has been in other recent versions.  Whywould customers put with barely readable without having yoru monitor inchces from you so you can see it?  What a let down.  I am seeking other software since Adobe  has made it nearly impossible for me to use this new interface. I feel cheated out of over $100.  Please tell me there is a fix without sacrificing my resolution. I tried at 1280 and it still looked tiny.
Please fix this Adobe! If you have this feature in Organizer, why not PSE and PE?
    Thanks for any help.
    Mark

Sadly this is only an option for Organizer not PE or PSE8. I do not use organizer but tired it anyway and it only increased the size marginally compared to MS and other programs.
PSE stays super small and does not have a USE SYSTEM FONT choice. I wonder why Adobe is not staying with the times.  If you can do it in Orgainzer why not Photoshop Elements?
Thanks on the tip for cross posting. I hope to hear from someone,

  • Two Strange Problems (monitor resolution acting screwy, firewire problems)

the firewire ports in my dual gig powermac g4 (10.4.10) died randomly. so i put in a pci firewire card, which works fine...but now my monitor resolution resets to 1024x768 every time i restart. it does not remember that i use 1280x1024, and i have to change it every time i turn it on.
the other problem, ever since the firwire died: if i go to "system profiler" and click on "firewire," the system profiler instantly crashes.
i don't know why either of these things are happening, does anyone have any suggestions? thanks!

    Ok
I've got a PCI combo fw + usb2 adapter on this G4 mdd 1,25. If I open system profiler and check FireWire nothing detected and sys prof crashes immediately, as yours. Fw works fine, Usb2 not very well, as I can deal with BlueTooth or Pen drive, memory sticks, but not ext hd LaCie 250Gb Usb boxed. After reading a lot I've find that chipset on PCI adapter(s) HAS to be NEC / OPTI branded for
good working on my Mac. The PCI combo card I'm using now has got ALI chipset, tried also another one VIA chip (worst)
If your FW port(s) dead for something wrong, it maybe necessary a PMU reset
