Help! to set up Oracle 9i RAC on Redhat Linux 8.0

hello,
we are setting up Oracle 9i RAC on Redhat Linux 8.0.
The problem we are having is at the point of sharing the raw partition and mounting the raw partition via nfs.
so we have two dell systems called linuxa and linuxb.
the partitions are made on linuxa (/dev/hda6...) and the raw command is used to bind the raw partition to the device (raw /dev/raw/raw1 /dev/hda6)
now when i run the command to mount
(mount -tnfs linuxa:/dev/raw/raw1 /mnt) i am getting an error
i know this problem isn't directly related with oracle but the whole point in doing this is to install oracle 9i on a shared device between the two system.
i have looked online everywhere for documentation and haven't come up with anything.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
sara

I don't know that you can use nfs to share a raw partition. This also defeats the idea of the cluster - If a host dies, the disk storage must still be viewable from the other node.
The raw device must be viewable to both hosts. Oracle controls which host is writing to the disk at any instant.
Use the firewire method or use two scsi cards (terminated, with different scsi id's) to a SHARED scsi disk (unterminated).
This works, I have it running here on 2 PC's with Redhat 7.3. The SCSI disk sits in its own external box between the two PC's. NFS is not used at any stage.

  • Problem installing Oracle 9.2 on RedHat Linux 7.1 and 9.0

    Hi everyone,
As the subject line says, I tried installing Oracle 9.2 on
RedHat Linux 7.1 and 9.0, strictly following instructions
    written by Werner Puschitz
    (http://www.puschitz.com/InstallingOracle9i.shtml). Both
    attempts failed with identical symptoms:
    - the installer asks for Disk 2
    - after the disk is inserted, it hangs. It turns out that
kernel is writing messages similar to these in
    /var/log/messages:
    Jun 16 02:45:19 boston kernel: 16:00: rw=0, want=317696, limit=149920
Jun 16 02:45:19 boston kernel: attempt to access beyond end of device
Unless interrupted, this continues until the /tmp filesystem gets full.
Has anyone experienced this? I haven't been able to find
    an explanation so far.
Any help would be much appreciated.

    Ljubomir Buturovic

Providing a thread-bare configuration of your machine on which you are trying to install Oracle on Linux (and mind you - which kernel/distro, coz that's important) would definitely help you elicit more responses to your messages.

  • Oracle firewire modules for Redhat Linux 2.6.9-34.EL

    Hi,
I need oracle firewire modules for Redhat Linux 2.6.9-34.EL. Can you please help where can I find firewire modules for this kernel.
    Thanks
    Haranath

According to http://www.linux1394.org/download.php you should not need any additional kernel module support. You may need to install the libraw1394 RPM packages, but you can get those from your distribution media or from ULN, if your are subscribed.

  • Oracle 8i Installation on Redhat Linux AS 3.0

    Hi guys,
I am just doing some home work before installation of Oracle 8i Enterprise server on Redhat Linux AS 3.0. Before I started my work on this, I planned to install 8i on AIX 5L, which was a bad idea. Because 8i being a 32bit db and 5L being 64bit kernel, and also this combination is not supported. But with little tweeking and installing few patches, things should work.
Anyway, I would like to know, if any of you have installed 8i on RH Linux AS 3.0, and do any of you think I need to worry about 32 & 64 bit? I am installing this combination on Compaq PL 6500 server, will there be any problem, because PL 6500 is 32 bit processor? Please pass on any information which can help me in a proper installtion, Thanks in Advance

    Joel,
I am new to this company. This is my first year here, from last one and half year my company was trying to migrate from Informix to Oracle. After I joined I came to know that my predecessor started the project on 8i and left the project half way thru. Then I took over the project and completed the migration from Informix to Oracle. My company spent awful lot of money on this project due to lack technical know how and mislead by the technology staff who has no knowledge of oracle or UNIX (they are bunch of old NCR and Cobol guys here). So bottom line is if I submit a proposal to my boss of upgrading from 8i to 9i or 10g, which I will, probably won't be happy to see. But on the other hand we will loose support and left with no choice, I can only say that I am sorry for them.
Anyway, this is just a part of disorganized IT shop we have here, it needs a major facelift, and I am just pushing one at a time. Thanks for your reply, I really appreciate.

Initializing Java Virtual Machine from ../stage/Components/oracle.swd.jre/1.1.8/1/DataFiles/Expanded/linux/bin/jre. Please wait...
Now, after I read many How-tos and did
    export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.2.5
its starts the installer runs for some time but always just vanishes after selecting
Typical Installation, processing gows upto 84% and then just....vanished.

  • Oracle not available on redhat linux 7.0

    Hello frineds ,
I successfully install oracle 9iAPS on RedHat Linux 7.0 , My purpose to run oracle 8.1.7
and it was done successfully , But getting a problem while creating database
    1. :- dbassist and copy database from cdrom but at the end approximately 80 % to 82%
it give me error oracle not available or end-of-file on communication channel
2:- SVRMGRL while connection as internal/oracle and tried to create database it give me error like
    ORACLE NOT AVAILABLE

    Hi
At windows You must create a service to hadle oracle threads. On linux this is not working in same way, You do not need a "service" to bind thread or process to it.
    simple set environment variables
and start sqlpus session with create database command, and so on.
Maybe You should read oracle admin guide for linux.

  • How can I enable trace log in Oracle Database 10g ( in RedHat Linux)

    Dear Forums Members,
Could u plz drop a message about how can I enable $Oracle_Home/network/trace
in Oracle Database 10g (Operating system is RedHat Linux Advanced Server 3).
I will very greatful if someone reply my message.
    Thanks
    Aungshu

To enable Tracing for a session Level.
    ALTER SESSION SET TRACEFILE_IDENTIFIER = 'my_trace_id';
Enable the SQL Trace facility for the session by using one of the following:
    SQL> Exec DBMS_SESSION.SET_SQL_TRACE
    or
    SQL> ALTER SESSION SET SQL_TRACE = TRUE;
To disable the SQL Trace facility for the session, enter:
    ALTER SESSION SET SQL_TRACE = FALSE;
To enable Tracing for a database level.
Edit init parameter SQL_TRACE = TRUE.
Its not recomended because running the SQL Trace facility increases system overhead, enable it only when tuning SQL statements, and disable it when you are finished

  • Oracle 10gR2  RAC / Dataguard on Linux Redhat 4.2  X86_64 and ASM / OCFS2

    Hi All,
Well don't know if this is bleeding edge or not, but wanted to know if anybody has a system running the following setup and if there are any issues like some components are not certified on 64 bit (e.g is OCFS2)
We are in process of building a system with
    Oracle RAC on 10gR2 on a 64 bit Linux OS 4.2 (2.6.9-22.ELsmp)
The system has a EMC CX500 and we are going to use ASM for the datafiles and OCFS2 for the Voting Disk and OCR.
We are also going to have a single (no RAC) Physical Dataguard instance at another site also using ASM.
We have seen that the OEM Grid Controller and agents are not supplied on x86_64
so we can't use it in a 64bit environment. (are we correct)
Anybody with suggested alternatives with the kit we have or a strong suggestion that 32 bit for RAC and Dataguard are best
    Thanks in advance
    John

I have a similar configuration, 3 nodes of SunFire X4100 (dual opteron), on RedHat 4 ES Update 2 using Dell/EMC CX300.
I am using OCFS2 for data and voting disks.
We had a couple of freeze-up (total node lockup) and I could not figure out what was wrong (this happens randomly).
Anybody have any idea where should I look for possible reasons?
