Help ! trackpad or freezing issue.
I have a friend's powerbook g4 with an initial sleep issue I was able to resolve based on a bad hard drive. Now when reformating a new hard drive it either freezes at the point that it ask for language selections or the trackpad is just not responding in which you can't tell either way. Tried operating the keys only to select but no luck. So what's next ?
Hi, scorpio. Is the new hard drive installed in the Powerbook, and are you starting up from an OS installer CD or DVD to format it? If you're starting up from something else — an external hard drive, perhaps — try formatting the HD after starting up from your latest OS X installer disc. If the problem also occurs under those circumstances, there's a hardware fault of some kind in the Powerbook. Have you made sure the jumpers on the new drive are set to Master?
If the new drive is in an external enclosure, and you're starting up from the internal drive in the Powerbook to format it, try starting up from an OS installer CD instead. If that works OK, it will point to the internal drive as the source of your problem. That wouldn't be at all surprising, considering that you think the drive is bad.
If you've been starting up from an installer disc all along, check the disc for surface dirt or damage.

Need help with Powerbook freeze issue
I'm having a strange problem with my PB: At seemingly random times, the system will lock up and display the spinner and the only way I know how to fix it is to pop the battery out and reboot. It doesn't respond to any input once the spinner starts.
Here's the thing: when the freeze happens, I can hear an abnormal noise from the spacebar or upper left area. It sounds like hard drive activity at short spurt intervals, with almost one-second pauses in between.
I have repaird the HD and permissions, which said it fixed some errors, but the problem is persisting. I ran a hardware scan and all is well. I took it to the Apple Store and the guy couldn't find anything physically wrong with it after running some diagnostics.
One last thing--I seem to be running Safari usually when these freezes occur. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Powerbook G4 Aluminum 15" Mac OS X (10.4.7) 1.5 GHz, 1.5 GB RAMforgot to add that i did delete and re add the Drivers thinking that might be an issue

MacBook Pro (mid 2010, 15", i5) continued freezing issues
Hi,
I was playing Civ4 when my MacBook Pro (mid 2010, 15", i5) froze totally. After a minute it restarted itself and when I logged in, I got an error message:

Any idea what it is? I'd appreciate any sort of diagnose?
My Mac has had some freezing issues before and recently was in repair because of those (memory was changed), but I've never got an error message after a freeze, and I've always had to force shut down it when it freezes. Ran the Apple hardware test couple of times, but nothing found.
I guess I have to reinstall Lion if this continues...Hello V-MA!
I found this webpage: http://osx86.wikidot.com/known-issues#toc1
by googeling for "com.apple.NVDAResman"
Probably you have to remove the Geforce Grafic drivers as discribed here. But please wait until some others in the forum confirm this.
If you don't understand how to do these commands with Terminal, ask once again for help.
In your message you did not metion, that you just updated 1 hour and something your OS ("System uptime in nanoseconds: 6688834587150"). This is an important information.

Go to Solution.Hi there cherylakashortee,
Out of curiosity, have you tried a battery pull yet? While the phone is on, simply remove the battery, for good measure, wait a full minute, then reinsert the battery and wait for the device to reboot.
Does that help? If not, let us know what operating system you're running on your phone. You can get this info under Options > Device > About Device Versions, or by typing "myver" in a text box (e.g. email or BBM).
If you want to thank someone for their comment, do so by clicking the Thumbs Up icon.
If your issue is resolved, don't forget to click the Solution button on the resolution! -
Mac Pro Screen Freezing Issue with NVIDIA 8800 GT too
There were lots of entry in threads, where the screen freezing issue was described (disorted screen with strange lines, only reboot helps). Nearly all cases seem to be related to the ATI 2600 card.
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1358062&tstart=30
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1365277&tstart=0
I opened this new thread to show, that this problems occurs not only for the ATI card but for the NVIDIA 8800 card, too.
My MacPro was delivered 8 days ago and was running without any problems. But all of a sudden, I got that screen freeze. And it wasn't the first time, I was heavely working 2-3 hours with that computer.
In total, 2 screen freezes showed on my computer. The first one during working with the computer. The second one during booting into MacOS X. The screen freeze occured during the boot phase with the grey screen and the spinning wheel.
My configuration:
MacPro 2.8, Dual Quad Core
6 GB RAM
3 harddisks, 1 standard from Apple, 2 Samsung with 750GB
MacOS 10.5.2
Formac 20" Monitor
Perhaps others have this problem, too? Than we should emphasize, that this is not an ATI related problem.I've actually been having the freezing issue for a while now but I didn't have the know-how to troubleshoot it (PC tech trying to support the only Mac lab in the building).
MacPro will freeze randomly (no trend in time, system strain, or open programs). The mouse will operate but will not interact with anything.
Specs:
MacPro - Model 1,1
Dual Core Xeon 2.66
2gb RAM
nVidia GeForce 7300 GT
Mac OS 10.4.11
The machine always has 2 displays connected to it so the workaround that was discussed for the ATI 2600 doesn't apply. I had 1 display connected here in my shop and it froze for that as well.

Hi All,
I have updated the Macbook Pro from 10.7.5 to 10.9.1 today and once it is done I restarted the system and it keeps on crashing/restarting the system every 2 min.
I have found the below backtrace. Please help me fix this issue.

Please help me fix this issue.
Thank you,
NishanthPlease read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you boot, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test. -
Since upgrading iTunes earlier on today I've had problems, and now, my entire system has frozen. I still have keyboard and mouse functionality and the programs that were running are still there but I cannot get to any menu.
How can I power down the iMac safely to reboot!!
HELP!
LukeAlso freezing here. I received my iMac 24" last week and experienced two screen freezes the second day I had it---before installing any of my programs. Both times it was in iPhoto and seemed to be locking up, not keeping pace with redraws. Like others, the computer seemed to be running fine otherwise...the screen just wasn't keeping up like it was a graphics card issue.
I later installed Aperture and experienced numerous screen freezes---almost always when I would employ the magnifying loupe tool. Other times the freeze would occur when clicking through photos (full screen). I have removed Aperture and await Apple's fix for the freezes. I LOVE the display and want badly for it to sort itself out. But I need this for photo work and I'm fearful from moment to moment that it will freeze up and lose work I've done. I've taken to saving every other key stroke. Most often it wil not accept a force quit command--the window never even pops up. So I have to use the power button for manual shutdown.
BTW, removing Aperture had no noticeable effect--other than it doesn't get the chance to freeze up in Aperture any more! It freezes up in iPhoto or even Preview. It was doing most of this before the 1.1 Update. I installed the Update and there was no noticeable decrease in freezes.
Yesterday it froze 8 times. Again this morning. Hope help is on the way...my PC friends are smirking.... -
Interface freeze issue with Flash Projector
I am facing an interface freeze issue with Flash Projector running a flex state based application. A Flash Projector exe was generated from a standalone flash player ver 10.2. The target machine on which the problem occuresd has 10.3.
Basically "screen freeze" means that the user interface is running as usual on Flash Player, but it's not responding to any user input (like button presses). But if we alt-tab to another application, the state changes in the Flash player. There is display with buttons on the screen, but touching the buttons or doing anything else - it did not respond. Rebooting the computer fixes the problem.
Can you suggest why this is happening? Is there any known bug in Flash Player.
The problem is this is being hard to reproduce on the developer workstation as it doesn't happen always. But it happens quite often on the target machine running an Intel Atom N270. What debugging steps can you suggest?
Problem Description : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z25oV9QWRykFirst, thanks for the video. Having this always makes it much easier to understand the problem. A couple of recommendations. First, if you feel like this might be a player bug, please add a new bug report over at bugbase.adobe.com and if possible please include any sample code or swf's that can help us reproduce the problem internally. Linking the video would also be great. In addition, would you mind reposting this question over on the Flash Professional forums? This forum is primarily for end users, the Pro forums will get you in touch with a wider developer audience who might have additional feedback.
Thanks,
Chris -
My trackpad cursor freezes on my imac
Since downloading Maverick the trackpad cursor freezes periodically. Does anyone know how to fix it?
Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account. Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

I Have reviewed the support article on issues with time and date and have tried all the recommended solutions but I am still having the clock freezing issue on my 5c. I have noticed that when I turn the airplane mode on then off that briefly fixes/updates the time. But the clock doesn't stay correct for long and will later be the wrong time again. i can't figure out if this is a phone issue or a cellular issue. Anyone have any ideas/solutions?
I feel your pain, though I would recommend the 9850 that Verizon does have out. It's a HUGE improvement on the Storm 2. I would switch to it myself but T-Mobile doesn't offer it. So, I'm waiting on BB10 myself.
That being said, you can make a backup of your device before wiping the data. That way you don't lose all your contacts, etc. I would recommend making the backup, wiping the device and seeing how the device responds with no data on it. If it solves the problems then simply add back the databases that you really need from the backup file.
If it doesn't solve the problem then a reload of the OS may be the next step before restoring the backup file.

I'm never one to giveup i've found the answer to my problem, it turns out it's actual game launcher causing the game to crash, that is installed on the download from steam; not very comforting when you actually think it could be ubisoft. Here is the link to resolving the issue http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?p=26150471
It's on the steam website for any Lion users out there having issues with SplinterCell Conviction on Lion osx crashing on startup. I can confirm SCC is now working on my Imac, slow but it works that's all I wanted was to play the game.
I hope this will be of help to other Lion users who and purchased the game from steam.
Cheers

I have had this MB for about 2 weeks, and in the last week or so, I have had constant freezing issues, probably due to overheating, but possibly due to something else. I have run all disk repair and PRAM and all the usual stuff, to no avail, what can be done?
I've been having the same problem... Thought it was the keyboard, trackpad, video etc. Freezing was really random. However, I must've found a solution... I've been working on and off on my macbook unibody for about an hour now, going in and out of screensaver/ sleep without any freeze problems.
Go to System Preferences, Keyboard, Set Turn off when computer is not used to NEVER.
This worked for me. Hope it works for you too! -
Multiple freeze issues on my laptop
Hello.
I'm experiencing multiple freeze issues lately. Inspecting all logs available but found nothing.
1. sometimes gdm freezes while switching users in Gnome 3. I share my laptop with my wife, separate accounts. While switching from one user to another, somethimes gdm (screen with account names) hangs, in situations when both users are logged or one is not. Only thing that helps is to switch to console, log in and restart gdm.
2. I had issues with suspend, so I turned off suspend based on inactivity. Now sometimes when laptop has some idle time and is inactive, screen turns off. Then it hands, all leds are on, unable to wake (turn on display), nothing works, switching to console, nothing.
3. Total freeze while logging into Gnome 3 session of my wife. Black screen, all leds on, only hard turn off (long press power button).
I inspected all logs in /var/log, also .xsession-errors in both home folders of both users. Can't find anything .... I'm desperate. Please post some tips, how to log more. I can't even submit or search for some bugs as I can't determine even what is the cause.
My laptop is ASUS X50Z.

Has a solution been found for the Treo 755p FREEZING issue?
I have been an owner of a Treo 755p (Verizon Wireless) for 18 months now, and have had freezing issues since day one. I love the phone and don't want to get rid of it, but the freezing issue I think are getting more frequent, and I am at the end of my rope. I have been trying to hold out to see if the Treo Pro would finally come to Verizon Wireless, but if I can't resolve the freezing (10-15 seconds) issue I might upgrade to a Windows 6.1 phone.
Has there been any patches or scenarios released on how to fix this?
I have no 3rd party software installed, and it has the latest updates.
PLEASE HELP SAVE ME FROM MURDERING MY TREO!!!
Post relates to: Treo 755p (Verizon)If there is something in the backup folder, in your username folder on the PC, that is causing an issue we need to rename the backup folder and hard reset the Treo.
Go to http://www.palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=887 and follow the directions to do a hard reset. Next before you hotsync your data back over you will need to rename your backup folder, to do that go here;
XP
C:\program files\palm or palm one\[hotsync username]\ and rename your backup
folder to backup.old
Vista
Start-->documents\Palm OS Desktop\[hotsync username]\ and rename your backup
folder to backup.old
Then hotsync to your current hotsync name and all your contacts, calendar,
tasks, and memos will come back over.
Show file extensions for XP or Vista
XP
If you can not view file extensions on your PC I would like you to open a
folder go to Tools-->Folder Options--> View (tab) and under show hidden
files and folders uncheck hide file extensions for known file types.
Vista
Open control Panel go to Folder Options--> View (tab) and under show hidden
files and folders uncheck hide file extensions for known file types.

hi all.
im on an older mac pro and having some weird freezing issues.
-expose 'show all' and 'minimize' tend to freeze my display mid-animation (mouse and all)
-at least once a day, usually when using RAM heavy applications, my screen will freeze, but the mouse will keep moving. i cant move anything on the screen besides the mouse. if audio is playing when the screen freezes, it keeps playing. despite the mouse seeming to work, space bar fails to stop the music. after about a minute, the mouse icon is usually replaced by the pinwheel, which spins indefinitely.
ive already:
-run the apple hardware test
-tested my RAM
-bought & run norton antivirus
but nothing has been found wrong...
any thoughts on what to try next?
a million thanks
mikeIf Disk Utility can't fix it, you'll need a more robust utility for the repair. I would recommend DiskWarrior. It is the best at directory repairs. It rebuilds then actually replaces your old directory. I feel every Mac owner should have a copy. Make sure you get the disk so you can boot up on it to run repairs. You can also install it on another drive and run it from there to repair this one. DW works faster that way.
I use DW once a month to try and catch errors in my system from getting too far out of hand.
If you have a good backup, hopefully a clone of your system before you had issues, an Erase and Install will also rid you of this issue. But, beware! You will lose everything on the drive with this procedure. Let us know if you need help with that!
Cheers! DALE
p.s. Here's a rewiew of DiskWarrior 4.
