Help transferring music to and from iphone from laptop

I have a new laptop and trying to transfer music is a nightmare! It asks if I want to overwrite my library (which I don't) and I tried to manually manage my music library and again, it asked if I wanted to overwrite.  All I want to do is put a few CDs on my iphone and get the music on my iphone on to itunes.  I have new Windows 8 if that makes any difference?

iDevices are not and have never been backup devices.
Move or copy the ENTIRE iTunes folder from the old computer to the new computer, then simply sync the device.

  • Need help transferring Music Files & Playlist from Mac Book to iMAC

I am having difficulty transferring my music files and playlists from my Macbook to my iMAC. All of the music goes over well but the playlists, comments and ratings do not. Any assistance in this area would be greatly appreciated.

Copy the entire \Music\iTunes\ folder from your MacBook to your iMac.
The link posted by WoggleDog deals only with moving the iTunes music folder on one computer to a different location to use on that same computer.

  • Help transferring music to windows from classic.. Please!

When I connect the iPod classic it is recognized in iTunes, but will not sync at all. I cannot add any of the music to the iTunes library, it only stays on the iPod. I tried:
    1) using disk mode, however, all of the songs in my iPod do not show in the music folder.
    2) dragging and dropping from iTunes (under the device) to both flash drive and desktop, iTunes does not allow either.
    3) exporting, which only creates an m3u file and does not help.
    Please help! Thank you!!

  • I need help transferring Bootcamp (Windows XP) from my old Macbook Pro to the new one. How do I make bootable clone of Bootcamp?

Hi I just got a new MacBook Pro I need help transferring Bootcamp (Windows XP) from my old Macbook Pro to my new Macbook Pro  Mac OS X 10.7.4  2.6 Ghz Intel Core 17. How do I make bootable clone of Bootcamp?

you can't just move XP even if you took the hard drive and have Windows boot and function.
Apparently there are Windows tools to sanitize the OS and strip all the motherboard drivers and services.
Time to get a supported OS. Don't want to pay, then use 8 for the time until it goes on sale.
There are no drivers for even Vista on 2011 and later Macs.

  • I need help transferring music from old PC to iPhone

Ok...I apologize in advance for the length of this post, but I have tried everything and my husband is no longer amused!
His iTunes account was created many years ago with an iPod Nano. I don't even remember which computer I had at the time and do not think I still have the original. The majority of his music is ripped from CD's. When Verizon finally got the iPhone, he got one immediately. I remember having to download the Pod to PC software at some point to move music from the iPod to a new computer. For some reason, I think the original crashed? (I don't know if this is relevant) Anyway, I think it was easy to originally put the music on the new phone.
At some point, however, it was lost from the phone. And, then that phone was dropped and the glass broken. He bought another from a friend. The current one has only the purchased music that is in his iCloud account.
Now, this is my issue. I have an old Toshiba Laptop that appears to have all of the music in the iTunes library. However, when I plug in the iPhone (which is a 4 by the way, but has been updated) it does not even recognize that it's plugged in. and, nothing I can do seems to allow me to update iTunes to a more current version. I'm sure this is the computer itself as it is barely hanging on. (and never used!)
I also believe that the old iPhone still has the music on it, but I can't be sure as the screen is so badly cracked that I can't access it.
So: two questions: Can I some how get the files off of the old computer and transfer them to the iPad and then push them to the phone? Say, with a flash drive or drop box or iCloud?
OR: should I just take the old phone and plug it into my computer (a Macbook Pro)... but if this is the way to do it... how exactly do I have two iTunes accounts and libraries on one computer? I'm sure this is going to be the most suggested option, but honestly, I would prefer to not do it this way if there is another option.
Any help that you can offer will be so very appreciated as I have wasted a lot of time trying to figure this all out!

st double checked and all of the folders are in the new computer. I can see the whole library in iTunes on the new computer but when you click on a song, it states that "The original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?

  • After replacing my hard drive, my iTunes won't transfer music to and from my iPhone 5?

    Hi,
I recently got my hard drive replaced after it died on me. I went to transfer songs onto my computer but it said I needed to update both my iTunes and my iPhone first. So I have and it says that it synced up all ok, but none of the songs got transferred. Simply dragging music over from my iPhone to iTunes didn't work so I manually tried to sync the music, but it came up with the message that in order to do this I'd have to erase all my music from my iPhone to sync with iTunes, when I would rather it be the other way around.
From reading forums, I understand that you are only allowed to sync the iPhone with one computer only and I have come to the conclusion that my iPhone still thinks it's paired with the iTunes that's on the broken hard drive and therefore thinks I'm trying to sync with another computer. However, I'm still using the same apple ID so I don't understand how that can be possible, so I am quite confused really.
All I want is to have all my old songs back in my iTunes. The only other thing I can think of is the Yosemite upgrade. I am not convinced on the upgrade since there are mixed posts about it and the only good comments are about its looks when I'm more concerned about its practicality. Could this be the problem with my iTunes? Any help would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately, what you have described is normal with iTunes and iOS devices when changing Macs or (and as you discovered) hard drives. I think you get around this problem though if you rebuild your Mac from a Time Machine backup.
Question: how much of your music is ripped from CDs or downloaded or purchased from iTunes?
I would imagine you are going to have to erase your phone, but there are 2 possible options as I would see it:
Copy the music from an old Time Machine backup. Even if Time Machine is based on your old system, as long as it’s not encrypted, an Administrator account should still be able to access the TM folder (perhaps with some tweaks to folder permissions).
Get hold of a dedicated piece of software for copying music off your iPhone. Google will present you a few options, although be careful: music on your phone is not stored in a filename friendly way, so you will no way of easily identifying the song or getting iTunes to recognise it either. You probably want software that builds filenames and copies the metadata with it, although these aren’t generally free.
Don’t forget that any purchased songs you can re-download off iTunes.

  • Please help.  Music files missing from itunes and computer!

I know that this isn't exactly a new issue, but I have scanned the discussions and nothing that I have read seems to help. My son has a nano (4th gen). He isn't sure but he thinks that maybe he disconnected his ipod before a sync was complete or something because all the music was deleted from it. He's not positive that's what happened but that's his best guess. No problem -- thought we'd just pull songs over again to it from our library. However, when we try to do this, on about 50% of the songs he wants (all were purchased, not from CDs) there are exclamation points next to the songs when we try to drag them and it says the file can't be found. I have looked in the itunes library on our computer and while I can find the libraries, they also don't have these specific songs we are looking for. I've tried to search and I just come up empty. Is there anything we can do beside buy the songs again? There are about 16 songs or so. A couple of them I have on my itouch. Could I somehow transfer the couple of songs to the computer? And would that work to get them to his ipod? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

+It appeared to do that as there are now duplicates in our library, but when I tried to drag the new song to the ipod, that darn exclamation appeared again and the song wouldn't transfer.+
It's easy to get rid of the duplicates. iTunes menu > View > View Options
Check the Date Added box, then click on the column name Date Added twice. Eveything you added to day will be at the top.
Then click File > Show Duplicates and only delte the one from today.
Do NOT delete both duplicates, or the song will be entirely gone.
As for dragging songs to the ipod, it has to be set for "manually manage music" for that to work. I don't understand about the exclamation point showing up again, unless you were dragging the 'old' reference that got deleted. Tyr dragging over the copy from today.

  • Help Transfering Music Videos from Mac To PC

Hi everyone! We have a Mac and a PC at home, both with iTunes. I'm trying to transfer music videos from my Mac to the PC. Both computers are authorized. I'm copying the music videos to an external hard drive from the Mac. After connecting the drive to the PC I double click the music video and it loads into iTunes, however, when I try to play it I hear the music but the video image is totally distorted. This does not happen with music videos purchased after the iTunes 7 upgrade. Those transfer well. It only happens to the older iTunes music videos. Is this normal? Should this be happening? If so, is there a way of converting the older videos so they play in iTunes 7 for PC?

  • Transfering Music/Photos/Videos from A 5th gen Ipod....

Well I have my old 5th gen 30 gig ipod that was last used on a pc with Vista but that pc is nolonger working so i went and got a laptop with Vista I tried the old method i used to transfer from the ipod to the computer but it's not working the way it did before...
Now I want to load the Libray from the 30 gig ipod to the itunes libray on the laptop so i can then load it to my new 80gig ipod how can i do it with out losing my stuff on the 30gig?

Connect your iPod to your new computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod to a computer
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:
Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    Comparison of iPod managers
    TuneJack Windows Only
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iGadget Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    SharePod Windows Only
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac and Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
There are various programs out there for recovering photos from an iPod, have a look at the ones below. If you search the internet you can find more. Just be aware that what you'll be recovering will be photos optimised for the iPod so they won't be the same quality as the original full resolution versions:
    iPodPhotoCopy Windows only
    CopyPodPhoto Windows only
Tansee iPod Transfer Photo Windows only
iPod Photo Liberator Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
Keith's iPod Photo Reader Mac only
If you have full resolution copies of the photos on the iPod have a look here: Apple Knowledge Base article - Use Disk Mode to copy photos from iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • Transferring music not downloaded from intunes back to itunes from my ipod

I recently had a hard drive crash. I lost all my music and photos. They are on my ipod touch though. I was able to transfer the music I purchased from itunes but most of my music isn't from itunes as well as my photos. I was going to try manually restoring the music or using a program to help me but when I open my ipod touch folder the only files that show up are DCIM and then 100Apple and 999Apple. I cannot find any other folders even when I allow hidden folders. Does anyone know why I can't find my music or photos folders or if they are even supposed to be there? Is there a way to retrieve my music and photos and put them back on my computer?

I found this program which costs $10 but it was able to restore my files.

  • Transfering Music onto Zen from I-tu

Hello! I just got the Creative Zen Micro Photo. In the past I used itunes to rip my cds onto my comptuer. Just a little while ago I downloaded Yahoo Music Engine and can now listen to all the music that was on itunes through Yahoo Music Engine. I am trying to import all of my music from Yahoo Music Engine and I have been able to transfer the music that I ripped directly on the Yahoo player, but not the music that I origionally ripped into i-tunes. In Yahoo Music Engine it shows up as being on my zen, but then once I disconnect the zen from the computer the songs do not show up on the zen and can't listen to them. Does anyone know how I can get my music onto my zen without having to rip all my cds onto windows media player or Yahoo Music Engine? Thanks so much! Any advice appreciated!

  • Please Help! HDMI sound playing from laptop and NOT the TV

Synopsis: Installed Windows 8.1 on new SSD on my Toshiba P75-A7200. I stalled all the drivers from Toshiba website. Everything works except now my HDMI audio does not play on TV play from laptop. I reinstalled the original v. of Intel HD Graphics 4600 and Conexant Smart Audio HD drivers. I also looked in the volume control panel and sound playback options looking for HDMI setting with no luck. Has anyone encountered this? OR have an idea how to get my audio working with HDMI cable to TV?
I checked different HDMI cables to be sure it wasn't a bad cable.

If you're determined to set things right, you can always restore the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents using Toshiba recovery media and upgrade to Windows 8.1 this way
If you failed to create recovery media, obtain it from Toshiba. Scroll down to Get Recovery Media here
See the instructions in the section Restoring from recovery media, which begins on p. 60 of the User's Guide.
