Help transferring

Hello,
I have a Ti Powerbook from like 5 1/2 years ago, i have just received my new new 17" macbook pro. When I started up the new macbook i choose not to transfer any info from my old mac via firewire. However I would like to have the same setup with my itunes, mail, and safari. I tried transferring the itunes library xml from my old powerbook to my new macbook, however when i keep opening itunes there is nothing there. Please help thank you very much

The XML file is simply a description of where the playlist folders and the files are in the Music folder. If you don't transfer the music itself, the XML file's directions are meaningless.
Use the Firewire method of transfer:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25773
It is the quickest and least painful method. Otherwise, you may be forced to:
1. Import the mailboxes after setting up the account settings in Mail, after transferring them from the Powerbook's Home -> Library -> Mail folder.
2. Copy over the Home -> Library -> Safari folder when Safari isn't open.
3. Copy over the entire music folder from the Home folder when iTunes isn't open.
The Migration Assistant ensures even the account settings are correct.

Hi I just got a new MacBook Pro I need help transferring Bootcamp (Windows XP) from my old Macbook Pro to my new Macbook Pro  Mac OS X 10.7.4  2.6 Ghz Intel Core 17. How do I make bootable clone of Bootcamp?

you can't just move XP even if you took the hard drive and have Windows boot and function.
Apparently there are Windows tools to sanitize the OS and strip all the motherboard drivers and services.
Time to get a supported OS. Don't want to pay, then use 8 for the time until it goes on sale.
There are no drivers for even Vista on 2011 and later Macs.

  • New mac user needs help transfering files from Dell...

I have a Dell running Windows XP and need help transfering the files from the dell to the mac.
Also I have no idea what OP system I have, how do you tell which one you have???

Go to the blue Apple menu and scroll down to "About this Mac"
In the summary window that opens you will find the following information:
Mac OS X version (assuming you are running OS X)
    Processor speed.
    Memory
    Startup disk
The More Info button will take you to an in-depth overview of hardware, network set-up and installed software.
As far as transference is concerned, you can either transfer files via CD, DVD, external hard drive... or by networking the two computers.

  • Help transferring files from old Mac 10.3.9 to new Mac 10.6.1

Hi - I just bought a new iMac with Snow Leopard and I am trying to transfer my old files from my iMac running 10.3.9. I connected a FireWire cable between the two and restarted the old iMac while holding down the "t" key, using Migration Assistant on the new iMac. Migration Assistant kept saying that it was waiting for the old iMac to restart, even though the old one HAD restarted. I looked on the forums and saw that I should try to run Setup Assistant from the Utilities folder on the old iMac. But there isn't a Setup Assistant in the Utilities folder.
So I am at an impasse. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Some of the items I've found via searching suggest to avoid transfer or migration of older
files from the ancient 10.3 over to the newer 10.5 or 10.6. And when the old computer is
a PowerPC, the new Intel-based Mac may not see or be able to use some of the items.
The older Setup Assistant is supposed to do for Panther 10.3 what the newer Migration
Assistant does for Tiger 10.4; to an extent. The results from the older system are limited.
There is a way to have the new computer import some of the older computer's user files
and account info into it, before its first run; but with a leap so great between 10.3 & 10.6,
    the results overall won't be as satisfactory as just running the new computer totally new;
going through the setup and upgrade processes independent of the old Mac altogether.
The Apple Support- Snow Leopard page should have some upgrade and migration help
info on there which may be helpful: http://www.apple.com/support/snowleopard/
It would appear that the instructions for migrating from an older Mac to one running 10.5
or 10.6 apply to the older computer, so the Panther software may be secondary if it really
matters at all in this process. See this document, and wonder along with me... This is not
quite the same as a migration assistant; but you don't need FW Target Disk in either case.

In the past, I've done a bit of upgrade and some migration action and found that overall,
the new OS X seemed to work a lot better with nothing old involved. That's just me!

  • Need some advise and help Transferring files one mac to other

I have created quite a problem for my self and can not seem to get out of it.
I transferred my system from the G4 to the new Intel IMAC. Ended up with two accounts on the new Intel IMac. Was told to go to user/ and transfer files from one account to the other. Lost all of my files. Can not get the netscape back on with my bookmarks, Safari does not have any of my stored bookmarks, Quicken, Family Reunion are locked. Have done the permission repair. Still messed up.
To add to this, I than decided to retransfer from G4 to Intel IMAC, but can not establish a target disk using Firewire. Follow the instructions holding T down and the screen comes up saying to reboot or shut down, it will not go to the target mode. And it does not appear that the G4 has a firewire extension now, it did two days ago. Can any one help?

The Windows drive is probably formatted NTFS which is not natively writable
by the Mac. It should be formatted as FAT32 to be usable on both.

  • Hello all - Newbie here wanting help transferring files

    Hello all
Have had my Blackberry Curve for a couple of months and have mastered the basics.  I did transfer music and photo's from my PC to my Blackberry fine but all of a sudden there is a problem with this.....I can't transfer anything to my Blackberry now - either by  PC or by Bluetooth.  My PC gives an error message that each file cannot be transferred and my Bluetooth is paired with the other device but will not send anything!  Can anyone help?

    Hi MadamMel,
Welcome to BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
Bluetooth file transfer is supported only between two BlackBerry smartphones. Can you provide more information on what happens transferring the files via USB please? Do you have a media card in your BlackBerry? What version of BlackBerry Desktop Manager do you have installed? Are you using the Desktop Software to transfer media files? What happens when you try dragging media files onto your media card from Computer/My Computer using Mass Storage?

  • Need help transferring itunes library from old computer to new laptop

    Hello,
I recently purchased a new laptop and am having trouble getting my library to transfer to my new laptop, i followed this step by step process http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1329?viewlocale=en_US and in the end ended up with no music on my ipod and no music in the itunes library on my new computer...
So then i went into Itunes on the new computer and clicked import library under File, so i found the Music folder that i had transferred over and it imported the music but all my playlist were not there, just songs. So i ended up syncing my ipod back to my old computer so i would get all the songs and playlist back on as it was originally before this whole process...
My desktop runs XP while my new laptop runs Vista Ultimate w/ SP1 home edition, dont know if this matters...
So not sure where i should go from here, i have already Authorized my laptop with the itunes store , i was thinking of uninstalling Itunes on my laptop and starting over from scratch, will this help?
BTW when i did the original transfer i used my Ipod as the hard drive as it had plenty of storage room left on it, i do have access to a 250GB external HD i was thinking of using that and trying that to transfer the library...
So if anyone can tell me how to transfer my Itunes library from old comp to new laptop it would be greatly appreciated...

The method you used should work if followed exactly.
The key points are - is your music all together? It must all be in the iTunes Music folder in the iTunes folder.
When you copy the iTunes folder to the iPod you get the library database with your playlists and the iTunes Music folder containing the music files.
Since you had trouble doing this with the iPod, why not try copying your iTunes folder to the external drive.
The method is identical the one for the iPod except you leave out the iPod specific stuff.
You install iTunes on the new PC, then you drag the newly created iTunes folder out the Music folder to the desktop, then you copy the iTunes folder from the EHD into Music, replacing the one you dragged out.
When you have done that, you need to check that your account has full control of your iTunes folder - Vista is fussy about that - you will not be able to edit track info if you don't have full control.

  • Help Transfering Calls between Applications

    Greetings,
We need to configure a physician hotline that allows a Call Consult Transfer to fire off at the same time the introduction prompt is being played to the caller. (The physicians we are calling do not use the desktop agent, so we can't rely on any queues) We are doing this to remove any delays in reaching a physician. The approach I have been trying is to trigger another application and transfer the call contact information so it can start calling while the first application is playing the initial greeting.
Currently I'm struggling finding any examples on how to transfer calls from one application to another. (I've seen sever methods suggested, but no one has laid out how this can be done.) Here is what I've tried so far:
    1.     Accept Contact
    2.     Set session variable 'MySession' to use Get Contact Info
    3.     Set Session Info to 'MySession'
    4.     Trigger Application in syncronous mode
    5.     Script 1 plays intro prompt; Script 2 sets local session 'MySession' using Get Session of 'MySession'
    6.     Script 2 initializes contact variable 'MyContact' with Set Contact Info using 'MySession'
    7.     Script 2 places Call Consult Transfer with 'MyContact'
On step 6 I am receiveing a "SetContactInfoStep(HandledSessionStep): contact object, MyContact, is NULL"
I appologize for asking a question that might have been answered before, but I've been searching for over a week and haven't found anything.

I have been on these forums for about five years and I have never seen this asked before.  That's good and bad.  Good because you are not asking a question that gets asked and answered all the time, and bad because there's no knowledge on how this can be accomplished.
First off, you will not achieve what you are after with they way you are doing it.  UCCX cannot bridge two separate Contacts together like you are thinking.
You would either need to call the customer back with the Dr on the line, or call the Dr back with the customer on the line.  The initial call in either case can be thought of as a notification that a call is about to be connected with a live person on the line.
So basically, you would still call outbound to your Dr with a place call step, and you would play a message like:
"There is a call for you...blah blah blah...press 1 to accept it."
If they press 1, you would hang up on them, and then immediately perform a transfer out to them.  This results in two calls, but the first call is a setup, or feeler call, which greatly increases the success of the actual transfer.  And that would be calling the Dr back with a live customer.
If however, you wanted to secure the Dr on the line with a single call (place call step), and transfer to the customer, you would have to confirm a callback number with the customer first, and then hang up on them, followed by transferring the contact from the place call step to the the customer's call back number.
UCCX is powerful and flexible but one area it lacks in is call control.  CVP would be better at this, as it actually has a SIP subsystem to send REINVITES and what not.
Good luck with this, and do let us know how it works out.
EDIT: Just had a thought, you could just put the caller on hold, and your hold message could have your greeting looping in it.  Then while they remain on hold, you are performing your Call Consult Transfer steps in the "background."

  • Help transferring HDV CLIP 2.28GB to another person for downloading on his

    Hi Friends,
Got a call last night from a friend asking if he could upload a presentation clip of mine I just put togather on I MOVIE HD from 1080i/30 HD video. The clip is almost 4 minutes long and is about 2.28BG in size. When I tried exporting to QUICKTIME Full Quality, I ended up with a MOV file. When I tried to burn the MOV file in TOAST data, the video on the DVD was very jumpy and started and stopped every second or two. When I tried burning same MOV clip with VIDEO DVD-Video, the clip was converted to 4/3 in very compresses format that made clip look like a 10th generation copied VHS tape. The clip is outdoor video with high quality music soundtrack. Keeping original quality as much as possible is essential.
I would use IDVD instead of Toast but I want the video to be able to be downloaded by my friend on his computer and then transferred to his website. In using IDVD, I found I always had to use a theme and creatre a DVD for viewing, not downloading on a computer. I feel so ignorant !!!
I simply want to send my friend the clip in best quality for him to put up on his web site. Can anyone help this frustrated adult from Alaska? Sincerely, Joe Ray
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   IMovie HD, I DVD, TOAST,

A DVD media isn't fast enough to play HD files. You must drag it off (copy) to play it as a data file (.mov).
You don't have a HD DVD burner so the file is converted to SD. You don't want to make anything but a data DVD or CD.
A 4 minute 1080i file exported to QuickTime Movie would be in the 300 - 500MB range.
Absurdly large for Web use. You should reconsider your format. If it must be HD then at least get the file size down by making it 480 HD.

  • New mac user, need help transferring music from external hard drive

I am new to using a mac. I have had an iphone for almost a year so I am catching on quickly to my macbook but this problem has stumped me and all my mac using friends.
I have a 500gb seagate external hard drive aswell as a new 500gb seagate internal.
I transferred all my music from an old ipod onto the external hard drive. There is about 50gb of music.
When I plug my external into my pc desktop I can see the music folder organized into subfolders with files inside that are encoded unless they are opened in itunes. My pc doesn't have enough internal memory to open and store my music library so I have just left it on the hard drive. When I plug the hard drive into my macbook it will show the music folder as having 50gb but when the folder is opened, none of the subfolders or files are visable.
I went ahead and dragged the folder from my harddrive onto my desktop. It took about an hour to transfer all the files but now the folder is sitting on my desktop and when I open it, it is empty. If i look in the folders info, it says it has the 50gb. If i try to drag and drop it into itunes nothing happens. If I drag and drop it into the itunes music folder, it will go there but will not show up on itunes.
I'm stumped and no longer eligable for apples telephone support as I bought this macbook from a friend. Any help would be greatly appreciated

  • Needed some help transferring files from Mac to external hard drive

Hey guys, I just needed some urgent help.
My friend wanted some files to be transferred to his external hard drive from my Mac. As he is a Windows user, I guess his hard drive is formatted for Windows as well. As I plug in the hard disk in my Mac, I can't transfer the files. It says something like "the disk cannot be modified".
So, please help me on how can I transfer this files from my Mac and if I do format it to work with the Mac, will it work for Windows later?
    Please help!

  • Getting new iMac, need help transferring iPhone,

Okay, I've been using my iPhone with my main PC since I've had it. A few months ago, I started having problems with it (my PC), and it became very unstable. I haven't synced my iPhone in 3-4 months. Mainly because it was so unstable...most of the time, it wouldn't even boot into Windows. In the meantime, I've just been using my PowerBook, and Aspire One for all my computer needs.
So I ordered one of the new iMac 24's last week to replace my PC, and it will be here tomorrow. Today, I've been backing up my PC, with an external HDD, in Safe Mode. Since that's the only way I can get into Windows now. I've copied over all the folders I used for my iPhone...like for photos, custom ringtones, etc. And copied over the iTunes folder. But unfortunately, I cannot sync the iPhone in Safe Mode. So all the stuff in the iTunes folder is at least 3-4 months old. And I've bought music and apps from iTunes on the phone since then, as well as added contacts, taken pics, etc.
My question is, when I sync up the iPhone on my new iMac...will I lose everything that's been added to the iPhone since the last time I did a sync? Is there anyway to get it transferred? Or at least get my purchased music/apps from the iPhone to iTunes on the new machine? I can email the pics I've taken, and copy down the added contacts if need be...my main concern is the music/apps I've purchased on the iPhone.
Thanks for any help you can provide...and hopefully I didn't make that too confusing.

iTunes includes an option to transfer iTunes content from an iPod or iPhone that was purchased from the iTunes store, but this is for iTunes content that was purchased from the iTunes store only.
First you need to authorize your new Mac with your iTunes account with iTunes.
After doing so, with your iPhone connected and without syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPhone.
Before syncing contact info with the Address Book and calendar events with iCal on your new Mac, enter one contact in the Address Book and one calendar event in iCal on your new Mac. Make these up if needed, which can be deleted later. This will provide a merge prompt when syncing contact info and calendar events with the Address Book and iCal on your new Mac, which you want to select.
Photos captured by your iPhone are not included with the iTunes sync process, except for being included with your iPhone's backup, which is the first step during the sync process. If you will be using iPhoto for storing photos on your new Mac, you can use iPhoto for importing these photos from your iPhone. Any photos transferred to your iPhone from your PC via the iTunes sync process must be transferred from your PC to your new Mac into iPhoto.
If all 3rd party apps available on your iPhone are not transferred to your iTunes library on your new Mac, you can re-download the apps with iTunes on your new Mac. You will not be charged again for any purchased apps as long as you use the same iTunes account to re-download the apps that was used to purchase the apps originally.
