HELP!  Transition from PC to MAC for iTunes/iPod

Okay, so I'm thinking about making the switch from PC to MAC. I understand how to move my music files from one machine to another, but need more specific information on moving my full library (i.e. already attached artwork, and playlists to be more specific). I've got 36,000 songs in my library, with many playlists (too many to re-create from scratch) and artwork that was manually attached for several of the files (over the past couple of years). I don't want to lose any of this. Also, will I need to reformat my iPod (and the 5 other ones in the house), in order to do regular syncs going forward. Appreciate the help anyone can give here.

I forgot, if you want to keep all your playlists, leave the itunes folder on your external drive, or copy to your mac, then redirect itunes to your new folder.

  • Transition from MS to Mac

Transitioning from MS to Mac. Have 10,000+ photos, organized by year taken and also albums with copies of select photos(many cropped/enhanced). Would like to import all to Mac, burn DVDs by year with all photos taken that year and albums with select photos. Then only retain on the mac the albums ie delete the year taken folder with all the photos.
    Appreciate guidance on easiest process.
    Thanks.

iPhoto will not burn to DVD - you export the photos form iPhoto a desktop folder and then burn that folder to DVD
And yes to do anything with photos using iPhoto they must be imported into iPhoto - and if you do not want them then you delete using iPhoto and empty the iPhoto trash and the system trash
I'm not exactly clear on what you want to accomplish - iPhoto can handle 1,000,000 photos and yu can rate them from 1 to5 stars so you can have everything in iPhoto but only look at the better ones -
No one here can make yoru decisions for you - most of us go for keeping more rather than fewer photos in iPhoto simce it is so good at organizing - for me if I took a photo out of iPhoto and burned it to DVD I would never find it again so why bother - I see thatth ephotos are worth having and therefor kept in iPhoto or not worth having so I delete them (not a lot - I have over 65,000 photos in my library)
I organize on the old 5 Ws plan, Who, What, When, When and Why
    I use faces for Who
The EXIF time stamp from the camera for When
Places (I use a GPS Camera) for Where
That leaves What and Why to add - Keywords do that
With the 5Ws smart albums or searchs can find a photo or group of photos instantly

Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi) to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you? If so, can you get a normal iTunes install to go through properly now?
If instead you get an error message during the install (or uninstall), let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

This is done through iTunes on a computer. You plug it in and under the Summary tab, you can chose what type of video quality you prefer.
You'll choose "Prefer Standard Definition Videos" from the bottom half of the Summary page

  • How to import bookmarks from iPhone to Mac using iTunes?

Can anyone tell me how to import bookmarks from an iPhone onto my desktop (iMac)? All of our bookmarks were accidentally deleted from our mini mac, which then deleted them from our desktop with iCloud. My wife has all the bookmarks on her phone but we can't figure out how to sync them. The only info we could find was to click the info button on iTunes and then sync, but there is no info button. Any help?

If you have OS X 10.9 Mavericks, then at this time there is no direct syncing of bookmarks, contacts nor calendar items between a Mac and an iOS device. All synching is done via iCloud. If there's another way to transfer your bookmarks from the iPhone to your Mac, I'm not aware of it, unless there's a third-party browser for the iPhone that could import the bookmarks from Safari and then transfer them by some other method. But if you set your wife's iPhone up to your iCloud account, that should then sync.
    Regards.

  • Dunce (that's me) erased iPod while attempting to transition from PC to Mac

I am barely computer literate so I hope you will bear with me.
I recently received my pretty new Mac, which came with iTunes preinstalled. I hooked up my iPod Nano to it, hoping to copy all my music to the Mac and received a prompt message. I hit the wrong answer (obviously) because I erased the iPod.
I still have my yucky Dell laptop (WinXP) that contains my music library on iTunes. How can I retrieve the music from the PC and put it onto the new Mac and my iPod?
I have read the post called "Windows to Mac" and the suggestions there were over my head-- is anyone willing to tell me step-by-step what to do? I would really be grateful.
    Thanks!

There are some helpful hints for transferring data from your PC to your Mac at http://www.apple.com/macosx/switch/.
Of the methods they list, I recommend Let the Genius Do It (if applicable), Move2Mac Software, and Network.
But, you can use the iPod as a go-between. Let me explain...
A lot of people make the mistake of trying to sync from the iPod to their new computer. Unfortunately, the iPod isn't designed to transfer music from the iPod to the computer. There are some third party software products that do this, but I can't vouch for them.
The easier way to use the iPod to transfer music (and other files) to the Mac, is to connect the iPod to the PC. Enable hard disk mode. Remove all songs from the iPod. Then in the Windows Explorer (Windows version of the Finder, not any of the other "Explorer" named items) copy the music files from the hard drive to the iPod. Once the files are copied, disconnect from the PC and connect to the Mac. Do NOT let iTunes on the Mac sync. Open the iPod in the finder and drag the files to your Mac's hard drive. Delete the files from the iPod. Repeat as necessary until you have all your files on the Mac's hard drive.
At that point, you can re-format the iPod for Mac, add your music to your iTunes library, and then sync the music from the Mac to the iPod.

  • How to authorize mac for itunes

How do I authorize my mac for itunes

    Authorization and Deauthorization
Macs:  iTunes Store- About authorization and deauthorization.
Windows: How to Authorize or Deauthorize iTunes | PCWorld.
In iTunes you use the Authorize This Computer or De-authorize This Computer option under the Store menu in iTunes' menubar. For Windows use the ALT-S keys to access it. Or turn on Windows 7 and 8 iTunes menus: iTunes- Turning on iTunes menus in Windows 8 and 7.
More On De-authorizing Computers (contributed by user John Galt)
You can de-authorize individual computers, but only by using those computers. The only other option is to "de-authorize all" from your iTunes account.
      1. Open iTunes on a computer
      2. From the Store menu, select "View my Account..."
      3. Sign in with your Apple ID and password.
      4. Under "Computer Authorizations" select "De-authorize All".
      5. Authorize each computer you still have, as you may require.
You may only do this once per year.
After you "de-authorize all" your authorized computers, re-authorize each one as required.
If you have de-authorized all computers and need to do it again, but your year has not elapsed, then contact: Apple - Support - iTunes - Contact Us.

  • Help i have forgotten my password for itunes and have a new email address but cant change this as i have to login first, any advice???

help i have lost my password to log into itunes and have a new email address but can't change this because i can't login?????

Whenever a menu choice is grayed out, that is because you have Restrictions turned on in Settings.  Be sure to turn it off.
You are confusing an itunes store account with an icloud account.  You two can continue using the same ID for itunes (thus sharing purchased music, apps, etc.), but you really should have separate accounts (different IDs) for icloud, since an account is intended for one user to keep his/her devices in sync.
To create a new icloud account, go to
    http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/
Then go to Settings>icloud and scroll to the bottom of the screen and tap Delete Account.  (have restrictions turned off)  That will disconnect the device from the account but will not delete data in icloud or other devices.  Then sign in using the new ID.

  • Help transitioning from CS2 to Elements

Am experiencing some difficulties in my workflow transitioning from CS2 to Elements.  In CS2 during most edits (from levels, to colour adjustments, spot healing, almost anything!) I would hit Edit>Edit (I think that's what it was...I'm missing my CS2) and a box would pop up where I could adjust the opacity from 0% to 100% of any individual edit that I made without having to create a new layer for Everything.  I'm going crazy searching Elements to try to find a similar feature.  Anybody???
    Desperate!  Thank you!

Yes there are features of CS2/CS5 that are not available in PSE but having PSE has its own advantages.
Look out for some reviews and features of newly released PSE9:

  • I want to change from windows to mac for cs5

I bought the upgrade for lightroom 5 and found I needed Windows 7 which I did not have. Thought now would be the time to change to Mac. How can I swap formats on the photoshop CS5 license I currently have?

    Hi Marionneedshelpplease,
There shouldn't be any problem while upgrading and switching the OS.Please go through this link : http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/order-product-platform-language-swap.htm l
If you want to upgrade from CS5 Win to CS5.5 or CS6 MAC, you can do that. Its called Cross Platform Upgrade.
But as Bob mentioned, you need to contact adobe for that. It cannot be done online from adobe website.
For the best assistance, I recommend our chat support at http://adobe.ly/yxj0t6. Our chat representatives can provide a personalized experience to resolve the issue you have described.
