HELP! Trashed Controller Assignments - backups? What backups?!
I have read about major bugs in the Controller Assignments/Automation side of L8 (they remain and persist in 8.01 - the version I am using) - bugs such as whole Modes/Zones literally vanishing from in front of my eyes.
Specifically that is vanishing as a result of, for example, being prompted when a control is currently assigned to another parameter and being asked to reassign/cancel etc I click on "reassign" and hey presto, the zone for my Axiom61 has been deleted, along with half a dozen associated modes and several hours of tedious work.
Not to mention that generally working on Controller Assignments has been nothing but trouble from the start, with spurious problems such as L8 just not responding to controls from one minute to the next.
The above disappearing act has happened twice: Both instances occurred at the same kind of "reassign" prompt, though the first time I did not lose a whole ZONE just a MODE within my newly defined Axiom zone.
Anyway, the question is this:
I had understood that I needed to backup two files to protect my Contoller Assignments -
/user/library/preferences/com.apple.logic.pro.cs
/user/library/preferences/com.apple.logic.pro.plist
BUT, having restored these from a backup I took a few hours ago, I find that my Controller Assignments are still absent.
Can anyone help?

BTW, L8 is, in my humble view, generally SIGNIFICANTLY better than any previous version. I have used them all.

Yep, I reported that one back in 7.1, and a looong list of numerous other horrible bugs with the controller assignments...
LP8 uses the files you mentioned. LP7 uses the ones in /user/library/preferences/logic/ but it also uses the LP8 main pref plist as well, we discussed this before. It's odd.
In any case, I got very careful about making multiple backups of controller assignments, but eventually I basically mostly gave up with my custom assignments because it was too buggy.
It was the one thing I wanted fixed in 8, and I was very dissapointed.
Oh, I also developed lots of workarounds while tip-toeing around in the controller assignments winodw. One is to duplicate all your commands into different modes, as a backup set without the same controller prefs. That way, if your modes get hosed through this or any other bugs, you can copy them back in from another mode.

Reload from Gwava for GroupWise.
Backup to tape solution is independant choice :)
In the low budget area ArcServe is a good choice IMHO.

Controller Assignments fun.....automation controlling the WRONG ch strips!

Further to L8 deleting an entire zone of Controller Assignments and my backups not in fact, having backed up my CA setting, I am rebuilding the Zone.
As a perfect example of just how BAD the CA aspect of L8(.01) remains: I have a brand new environment with 32x Audio Channel strips and 8x Aux Channel strips.
I have successfully mapped controls from my Axiom61 in groups of 8 to audio channel strips 1-8, 9-16, 16-24 but when I do EXACTLY the same thing (learn automation) for channels 25-32 and then exit learn mode, my Axiom is controlling AUX Channels 1-8 and NOT Audio ch 25-32!!!
I mean I have clicked on each audio ch fader (25-32) assigning controls for volume, pan and solo precisely the same as for the previous 24 channels yet Logic assigns these last controls to the WRONG ch strips - ie Aux channels 1-8!
WHY? Pourquoi? Porque? PLEASE!
Is my environment screwed? Is this something to do with L8 deleting my Zone yesterday?
Thank you all....It depends on how you are learning them. An assignment to a particular channel strip can be done a number of ways - accessing only audio channels, accessing audio objects by an offset, accessing channels based on the current fader bank offset and so on.
What are your assignments set as? If you are assigning them as fixed audio objects, you shouldn't run into this. If you can provide more details as to your assignment parameters, I can have a look and see if I get the same behaviour, or see what's going on.
Note: couldn't you keep all your controller assignments issues to one thread? - it makes it easier to keep track of things and keeps them self-contained with all the relevant info, rather than having related isues split across multiple threads. -

HELP!! I viewed my "backup" files, and now ALL of my photos are no longer "linked" to Lightroom.
I thought I was missing some files, so I viewed my backup files. I received a "warning" that Lightroom would restart and view my backup files. I did NOT receive any warning, that there was NO GOING BACK!! I've tried everything. I cannot re-link ANY of my photos. Well, I did just do one, and it told me all the other photos in the folder were corrupt and Lightroom would not be able to edit them (and no, it was not an exported .jpeg file). Fortunately, I am not concerned about this folder, that's why I tested it. I was forced to moved all of my photos from my C drive to my D drive because for some weird reason on this computer, my D drive is 5 times bigger and I ran out of room. When I did that, I was able to relink all the pictures. Sadly, it didn't keep my Folders, it just relinked them all by date. That I can deal with, even though it makes finding photos much more difficult, but I wasn't about to try to rename any of them and have to relink again.
Now, I can't relink any of them because it appears in Lightroom that all photos are back in the C drive and therefore, the new photos that I placed on the D drive are not there, and nothing will relink, period, not even the ones that were originally on my C drive!
I have never been so aggravated in my life. I LOVE Lightroom capabilities. I have version 2.3. When I look it up on the online help, all I get is how the photos are in whatever location they were saved, but they are linked, etc. I already know that part. I seriously wish I had NEVER looked at my backup files. I don't think I'll bother backing up stuff anymore because apparently looking at the backup messes up everything.
I fully anticipated that I would be able to go back, choose my folders on my D drive and have all of my current photos available. Sadly, not.
My user name should be FREAKED OUT!Thanks! I've been practicing deep breathing between yelling at my computer. I use Windows 7. I was in my "regular" Lightroom photos, and I couldn't locate some pictures I took last December. So, I thought, well, why not look at the back up files? I'm normally excellent at remembering exact steps, but I'm so worried about all of my thousands of photos, I can only explain what I think I did. I went into Windows Explorer, and chose the backup files. When I did, I received the warning about Lightroom restarting and loading the backup photos. I hesitated for a full minute, but thought, well, isn't that what backup files are for? So, I selected it. Lightroom opened the backup photos without any problem. But, when I went back, and tried opening the photos that were linked to Lightroom, they were no longer linked. When I click on the formerly linked photos, they just open in Windows Explorer, not Lightroom. When I open Lightroom, it has says all the photos are "missing." All of the folders are listed in my C drive (in Lightroom), not where they'd been moved to on my D drive. The one photo I relinked, stated the photos in that folder could not be edited in Lightroom. So, I'm afraid to try to relink anymore of them. Also, as I said, any photos that I originally imported to my D drive are not showing up in Lightroom at all.
I would say, I normally learn software quickly. That was my experience with Lightroom. I installed it, went through all of the online training sessions, and have loved it. Admittedly, I'm sure there are features that I don't make use of that many people do, but I'm just a passionate photography nut, not a professional.
The online help basically explains the linking, and even how to relink if you "move" a file, a folder to another location. It doesn't cover this, or not where I can find it.
I've think I've given up on yelling at the computer, now I just have knots in my stomach about getting photos relinked. I have probably 80% of them exported, with the adjustments I made, but that does not make me feel one bit better.

PLEASE HELP!!!Hold down the Home and Power button to shut off the iPhone. Keep it disconnected from the computer. Then, hold down the Home for 20 seconds. Connect it to the computer while continuing to hold down the Home button. Wait for iTunes to say your iPhone is in Recovery mode. Then, restore.

If I get this right, you've ported your phone number to AT&T with the purchase of the iPhone. That is considered opening your own account under your name. Your brother's account is not ported to AT&T unless you used his SS# instead of yours. Your brother still has his account under Verizon Wireless, all you did was use your cell phone number to when you opened your own AT&T account.
If you don't want to use your Verizon Wireless phone #, my suggestion is to call AT&T customer service and explain that you want a new phone number instead of the ported Verizon number. -

Thank you for responding. Nothing actually worked! After reading the posts online, I called Apple. They indicated they have seen problems with some software after their upgrades. The technician was able to fix the problem on my computer remotely, but I have no clue what he did! But, it was definitely related to their recent upgrade to my computer.

I have tried holding down the home and power button countless of times. It doesnt respond at all. Plug my phone to a charger and hold down the power button and my phone switched on. But it said Activation Required and said connect to Itunes. As e screen remains on the connect to Itunes screen, I disconnect the charger from my phone and my phone went dead instantly. My battery is full btw. Tried connecting to Itunes through my Macbook Pro but iTunes doesnt detect my device and the apple logo flashes for about a few seconds on my phone and then disappear and then came back on again. My Iphone has been connected to my laptop for about 30 mins and the apple logo has been coming on and off for 30 minutes now and Itunes has not detect my device yet.

Advanced Help Needed - Restoring iPhone data from Backup
Upon updating my iPhone 3G[S] from 3.1 to 3.1..2 I did a full restore, I made sure to backup the device before this. Post-update/restore I, accidentally, hit "Set up as new phone" therefore deleting my earlier backup, a backup I have been building on for over 2 years now. When realizing that iTunes had automatically deleted my backup, I quickly opened my file recovery program and got the whole backup folder restored to a separate drive. I moved the whole freshly-recovered back up folder to the correctly directory within iTunes appdata, right next to where my new/empty/useless backups where. Right clicking my device within iTunes and selecting "Restore from backup" my backup from earlier in the day was not listed. After further inspection of the backup folder that I had recovered I noticed that there was no Info.plist file. I went into the other/useless backup that iTunes had just made and brought the info.plist into my older backup folder, now in iTunes my older backup was listed, I selected it and attempted to restore to only receive an error half way through restore "(-32)" to be exact. I checked again and again with my recovery tools to see if the original info.plist file was deleted, it was not, I have no idea why it would be missing, but worse is that I have no idea how I can get iTunes to restore the backup without it, considering it doesn't even recognize it the backup as existing without it, is there way to create a custom info.plist so I could restore or force a restore outside of iTunes? Please any advice would be greatly appreciated !
Backup c:\users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup
If you copy these folders into a new computer in the same location (or the contents of a current long name folder into one of the long name folders in backup) you should be able to restore your old data.
Outside of that maybe track down the location of your outlook PST or address book database. support.microsoft.com probably has some tips. -
Why does Logic Pro 9.1.8 Fail to respond to Controller Assignments?
I have recently bought the Akai MPD32 and am currently using it with Logic Pro 9.1.8. I spent 2 hours mapping Controller Assignments to various knobs and sliders e.t.c. and they all saved. I backed up the preference files from the Library in case I needed to replace them for some reason. After a few times of closing and opening Logic the assignments no longer work! They are still displayed in the Controller Assignments window but do not respond to the movements I am making on the controller. I have tried replacing the preference files which doesn't seem to work. All my MIDI devices are connected before I start Logic and the MPD32 is on the same preset as when I assigned the controls.
I was hoping someone could help because I was hoping on an easier workflow but it seems impossible at the moment.
LiamI backed up all 5 Logic files in the Preferences folder after setting up and assigning the MPD32.
I deleted the files and replaced them with the backups but it still refuses to behave. I had all my midi devices linked to the correct ports and my assignments were under MPD32 Port 1, when the assignments failed the MPD was still in 'port 1'.
This is quite a pain in the backside and I don't want to have to do this multiple times a day.
Anyone got any other suggestions?
