Help! Trouble with M-Audio Firewire 410 MIDI Compatability

I am currently working on an iMac running OSX 10.4.11. I have been unsuccessful in trying to use a Yamaha P-70 keyboard, running through my M-Audio Firewire 410 using the MIDI input to record MIDI sounds in Garageband. I have had great success with this in the past before this version of iLife with the Garageband updates. My computer recognizes I have a MIDI device, and I have changed the proper settings both on the control panel and within Garageband to reading the M-Audio Firewire 410, yet I am not getting any signal from the keyboard as a MIDI instrument and therefore cannot record any sounds. Does anyone have any suggestions, or is this something perhaps someone else has dealt with already? I appreciate your help!

Very interesting. Couple of questions for you:
1. Did it only affect MIDI instruments or real instruments as well?
2. If it stopped working with GB, what did you to fix the problem? Would it possibly work with Logic? I have contemplated purchasing that software.
3. Do you know of any fixes for the 410?

  • HELP ME WITH M-AUDIO FIREWIRE 410

    Hi
I need desperate help with my Logic Pro 7 and getting audio.
I have my guitar linked up to an M-Audio firewire into input 1 and and i have my speakers coming out of output 1. In garageband it all works perfectly but when i go into logic i cant get any output audio and no input, i have configured and it has registered with the M-Audio Firewire so, what am i to do! I have changed the channel to input 1 and can see it on the meter as working but no output!
Please help, i've tried everything and on the verge of a breakdown with this!
    Thank You

In case there is something wrong with the environment on the project you are trying to work out why you are not having any sound>
try and open one of the template ones>
File>new>tick use song template and select something like the basic one.
If you have the correct settings at your audio midi setup you will be able to have i/p and o/p by simply selecting audio 1.it's already set to input 1 and o/p 1 or 1/2.
If you rec enable the audio track 1 you will be able to see levels and hear sound out of your speakers.
    hope this helps

  • Trouble monitoring output with M-Audio FireWire 410

I just got a new iMac Core Duo and plugged in my M-Audio FireWire 410 audio interface to run with Garageband 3. Changed input/output settings, input seems fine and output too, even the 410 is flashing its output lights... but I cannot hear any monitoring of real instruments or software instruments on the FireWire 410. I've tried different headphones, adapters, and I know the jacks work because I also use the 410 with Cubase on another Mac. I suppose this is more a problem with the M-Audio FireWire 410 than with Garageband 3... but does anyone have any suggestions?
iMac Intel Core Due   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

    Hi,
I have a similar problem related to the output of the M-AUdio FireWire 410.
Ive being using m-audio firewire 410 (driver version 1.7.2) together with a MacBook Pro (2GHz Intel Core Duo, OSX 10.4.7) since a couple of months without having any problem. But the last week my computer had an "unexpected problem" and I had to shut it down using the power button while garageband and itunes were working. After I restarted it again, I realized that even if I get a signal on the sw rtn 1/2 when I use itunes or Garageband, I get no signal on any of the assigned output buses. The funny thing is that when I use an analog input, I actually get signal on the assigned output bus. I uninstalled and reinstalled again the drivers of the m-audio 410 firewire without any success.
I would really appreciate any comments.
    Thanks in advance,

  • Help with Powering m-audio firewire 410

    Hi to All
I just got a Mac book Pro, and I own an m-audio firewire 410 interface. The Mac works wonderfully and I´m extremely happy with it and the 410 together.
Does Anyone know if there is a way to power the interface with the AC adapter, whithout powering it through the 6 pin Firewire port when using batteries ?
To My understanding, the 6 pin ports always can power devices.
Thanks for Your Help, and sorry of any English glitch

I have a MacBook Pro and a M-Audio Firewire 410. As we speak, I am running a six pin firewire cable to the Firewire 410 as well connecting it to the supplied AC power adapter. Nevertheless, I use it primarily with my PowerMac G5. When connected to the G5, I have both the 6 to 6 pin firewire connector and the supplied AC power power adapter connected and sending power to the unit. Nowhere in the manual does it say that you cannot connect the AC power adapter to the FW 410 while a six pin (powered) firewire cable is in use. It does say that the AC adapter is included to power the unit when a computer with four pin firewire ports (the kind that don't supply power) is connected to the FW 410. As bus power from a firewire port is often the victim of RFI from the components in the computer, I was advised by M-Audio tech support to utilize external power whenever feasible to increase the SN ratio on the device. So basically they told me to connect both at the same time. I assume that the FW 410 knows when it is receiving power from the AC adapter and knows to not utilize the power from the firewire bus simultaneously. If you are really worried, I suggest you call M-Audio tech support and let them tell you what I just did. One final thought: I have used my FW 410 with two power sources (firewire and DC in) for the two years since I've had the unit. It doesn't work as well as it used to...now that the drivers have improved, it works much better a than it used to. I hope this answers your question.

  • Rookie needs help recording DJ set through M-audio Firewire 410

Ok.... ive been reading through the forums and I still can't find help...
Im running GB 3 that came with my Macbook I bought about 4 months ago.
    I am a DJ and I trying to record a DJ set/demo.
What I use to DJ is Pioneer cdj-800 x2 and a Pioneer DJM400 using Rane Serato Scratch through my Mac.
    I recently bought an M-Audio Firewire 410.
I installed all necessary drivers from m-audio's website (i bought it on ebay so it did not come with the install cd).
I connect the Maudio into the Mac as instructed and set all my inputs/outputs in prefs to the m audio.
The record out of my mixer is via rca so i bought an rca to 1/4" cable. The rca going into my mixer and the 1/4" is going into the first "mic/inst" on the interface.
I created a real instrument track on a new project in GB and set the input to channel 1 (mono).
I play a track..... no sound. nothing at all. i tried the inputs in the back of the firwire and played with the gains. still nothing. i am getting a little frustrated here as you can imagine.
I would really appreciate if someone could walk me through this or at least point me in the right direction.
    Thanks a ton in advance.

Perhaps you may need to reinstall the driver again from the M-audio website. The newest drivers don't work well but if you're running the newest OSX 10.4.10 then you have no choice but to use the newest drivers. When installing the new driver, do not have the 410 hooked up to the computer. After it is installed, shut down the computer. Hook up the 410, then turn the computer on, make sure teh 410 is power button is on as well. Once you're computer is up and running, open up the m-audio mixer application that comes with the driver. on the top right-hand corner is a reset button. Click that and a there will be a popup asking if you want to reset, say reset. Next open up system preferences and check the sound. Select the 410 for input and output. You have to also do this again in garagebands prefs. Test your audio out by playing a song through itunes or something. Hope it works.

  • HELP!! No sound while recording thrugh M-Audio firewire 410

I am using Logic express 7 with an M-Audio firewire 410. I have my guitar plugged into the mbox and Logic is picking up the signal from my guitar, but I cannot monitor the sound while recording OR hear anything else at all. When I unplug the mbox, however, I can hear everything that i just recorded along with everything else in the song fine. I just need some help figuring out how to monitor the sound, PLEASE!!!!

Logic always uses the same audio interface for input AND output, so I suppose your problem is that you do not have any speakers connected to you M-Audio interface. Try adding a pair of speakers to it. If there's still no sound, go to Logic's audio settings and see if "software monitoring" is active or not.

My skype doesn't have any options or settings that I can check with to see if I can fix it...I need help...please if any of u knows how to fix it..I would greatly appreciate it...

You can try removing app then reinstalling. If that doesn't work
    Try a Restart.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
     Resetting your settings
You can also try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered. You won't lose any data, but it takes time to enter all of the settings again.
    Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Apple recommends this only if you are unable to restart it.
Or if this doesn't work and nobody else on the blog doesn't have a better idea you can contact Apple.
Here is a link to their contacts with most of the information below.

  • Help! My Macbook Pro will not recognise my M-Audio Firewire 410 interface

    Hi
I'm new here and fairly new to Macs having only recently bought a Macbook Pro.
My plan is to use the Macbook primarily for music but I can't get my M-Audio Firewire 410 audio interface working.
I have installed the latest Intel driver but when I plug the interface in, the Mac does not recognize it at all. I have tested the port/cables etc, and can successfully play music from an external firewire HDD chained through the Firewire 410.
How is it possible that the Mac doesn't even know the interface is there (when I click on the M-Audio software icon I get this message "No M-Audio Firewire device was found connected to this Mac") yet I can play music chained through the device?
I have tried both with, and without, the external power supply connected to the Firewire 410 and also tested it on my PC where it works as usual. And I've tried deleting and reinstalling the driver....(I thought this was PC only territory!)
Any ideas? I really want to get back into music and my past (bad) experiences with PCs drove me to the Mac...
    Many thanks in advance

Try v1.8.2 instead of v1.7.2 of M-Audio's driver setup.

    Hi,
I'm in complete distress right now.
I have a big problem and I really don't know what it is.
I'm a professional musician and I have a kind of buzz on my hardware. Every time i try to record on my logic ...I have a buzz. Please check this link where you can hear what I'm talking about. I putted an explanation and some example on a mp3 player to make you understand better my problem.

If you have any idea please let me know.
    My MAC configuration :
    Mac book pro OSX 10.4.11 / 2.4 Ghz intel core duo / 2Go 667 Mhz DDR2
    Sound card M-Audio Firewire 410 / Logic Pro 8
I have all the lasted Mac update !
Thx a lot for your help.
    Nailian.

    Hi,
Back from my "rescue mission" ...
Firstable, to answer the last post, yes I tried on different computers but it was windows PC.
Anyway, I tried ...older drivers (1.8/1.7/1.7.2) ...not working.
I tried to close airport (not bluetooth cause my mouse use it) ...not working.
So I decided to buy and install Leopard ...and it's working great.
In fact, after some research my problem was a frequency problem who came from a disfunction between my card and my mac. But why this problem ...because of apple !!!
Yes It seems the last security update 2008-002 from apple can not be "trusted"
Bring a lot of problem ...as mine.
So maybe I bought leopard for nothing ...but is great too so I'm ok
Thx again for all your ideas.
    See u.

  • Problems monitoring audio with a m-audio Firewire 410 card

So I have a M-Audio 410 hooked up through the firewire port on my G5, But it geeks out (audio turns to loud noise, strange defects, spinning ball of slowness appears) everytime I try to monitor audio out of final cut, also when I play LARGE quicktime files!!! The card works fine for all other applications I have on my mac, Cubase, iTunes etc... Anyone else have heard of this, or know what to try. I have most of my video on an external drive, a LACIE media drive, which is my only option as I am working with large amounts of video.
I am thinking this is an issue with the bandwith of firewire on the computer. Maybe too much information between the audio card, and accessing the drive through the other firewire port. Any thoughts?
    Cosmos

Hello, I was just about to post the following when I saw your recent post, Wondering if you ever found a solution for what you're running into? (BTW, I went to UO a looooong time ago. Go Ducks!)
We'd like enhance the audio end of our edit suite and are thinking of adding an "FireWire 410" from m-audio for I/O. And ProTools.
But we've read here and there in forums that there may be a problem with Firewire I/O (and maybe the m-audio "FireWire 410" in particular?) and confusion with decks like the DSR-11, etc. Disturbs the video on an external broadcast monitor.
One note: we don't think we'd necessarily be sending audio from the DSR-11 to the "FireWire 410" (and on to headphones and speakers) via firewire.
Anyone out there using FCP and the "FireWire 410" who could comment?
    Thanks,
    Brad

  • M-Audio Firewire 410 - No Output - Intel iMac 20"

    Hey Guys,
I was wondering if anyone is having trouble with the M-Audio Firewire 410 and the Intel Core Duo iMac.
    System Specs:
20" iMac 1 GB of RAM
I am running the beta driver from M-Audio (1.7). The trouble I have is that I get no output. I see the channel lights active. I see the audio transitioning in the Mixer panel. The Firewrie 410 works fine on my PowerBook. I also have an M-Audio Firewire Solo and it works on both machines (with the same cables and hookups). I'm not getting very far with M-Audio on this one. I just wanted to see if it is me or if anyone else out there is having trouble.

    Hi !
I have a similar problem to the one you already solved. Maybe you could suggest something (maybe I can avoid reinstalling everything).
Ive being using m-audio firewire 410 (driver version 1.7.2) together with a MacBook Pro (Intel Mac OSX 10.4.7) since a couple of months without having any problem. But the last week my computer had an "unexpected problem" and I had to shut it down using the power button. After I restarted it again, I realized that even if I get a signal on the sw rtn1/2 when I use itunes or Garageband, I get no signal on any of the assigned output bus (I have a m-audio 5.1 surround system). The funny thing is that when I use an analog input, I actually get signal on the assigned output bus of this input. I uninstalled and reinstalled again the drivers of the m-audio 410 firewire without any success.
I would really appreciate any comments.

  • M-Audio Firewire 410 soundcard problem on Windows on new iMac

I've had this problem since I got the new iMac. When running Windows natively, with all Boot Camp 2.0 (same with the older Boot Camp) drivers installed and the latest drivers for my M-Audio Firewire 410 for Windows XP Pro, I haven't been able to use the sound card at all. Everything installs perfectly, the control panel works, but the hardware won't respond to any sound playback. I'm not sure if it's the Boot Camp drivers for my iMac or if it's my interface. It worked fine through Boot Camp with my MacBook Pro, but not the new Aluminum iMac. Using it with Ableton Live 6/7 fails. Playing it from iTunes fails. Everything fails. My interface is basically rendered useless on Windows. I believe it's an iMac + Boot Camp problem, not the interface. Audio program forums didn't help, so I cam here. Hope someone can help. Thanks!

    from M-audio...
M-Audio does not support Boot Camp on Intel based Macs at this time.
The problem is that there is no BIOS on Mac Intel systems and getting devices to work on some XP systems requires BIOS/OS tweaks. Boot Camp works around the need for BIOS; Windows does not. Windows installations are not always consistent and the fact it works on one Intel Mac does not mean it will work on another.
Attempting to install any M-Audio device or drivers in Boot Camp is done solely at the user’s own risk.
Here is a website that has many troubleshooting tips that can help get devices to work on XP and MAY work for Boot Camp; however this is all done at the users own risk.
    http://www.pcaudiolabs.com/setuptips1.asp?cat=setu
    For M-Audio FireWire devices:
Switching from Mac to PC the FireWire device may not always load the firmware properly. To get the PC firmware to load you may have to boot into XP then shut down, disconnect, reconnect and reboot. Switching from PC to Mac automatically loads the correct firmware.
If this workaround does not fix your issue, you will have to run the device solely on Mac OS or on Windows hardware.

  • Noise coming through Firewire audio interface (M-Audio Firewire 410)

I have an Intel 20 inch Core Duo iMac with an M-Audio Firewire 410 audio interface attached to the 800 Firewire port. The Firewire 410 seems to be working fine. However, I have a very annoying problem with noise. A fairly loud hum is coming through.
I'm pretty sure the noise is originating in the iMac. If I press on the LCD monitor or squeeze the case around the middle of the iMac, the hum diminishes. Sometimes when I do this, the hum diminishes but a buzz then becomes audible.
The iMac and the Firewire 410 are plugged into the same outlet.
I have a friend with the same setup who claims his is dead quiet. Does anyone here know what could be causing this and how I can fix it?
Intel iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Any more news on this? I have the exact same problem, and the problem exists with a couple of firewire devices. I'm currently using a Behringer F202 (or something similar), but I had the same problem with a Firewire 410. I'm running Leopard, but I know the problem isn't related to the OS.
See - I have my FW interface hooked up to an external mixer - when I plug it into my iMac, I get the noise..this happens EVEN IF MY iMAC IS SHUTDOWN. I've tried using the external power supply for my Audio Interface, as well as running off of bus power to no avail. It is definitely a problem with the iMac itself.
I've ordered a FW Hub, and I'm going to try using the audio device through that next. I don't want to do this, but I also have a USB Audio device that I use for other things, and I found that it behaved much better when connected to a hub vs the the USB port on the back of the iMac directly. It seems obvious to me that the iMac has some weird power-shielding problem or something of that nature, so pulling it off to the hub which has its own power supply will hopefully help.
I do have AppleCare protection, so, my next step is to call them out.

  • Installing m-audio firewire 410

i just bought a m-audio firewire 410 soundcard. to make sure i would install it properly, i followed every step of the user manual. still, it's not working. the blue LED light keeps flashing, my mac is not even detecting the soundcard.
i don't know what to do...
    please help!!!!

from my understanding, the bluetooth device is not getting power and that could be various reasons. it's dying, you have some new installed hardware that is draining from the bluetooth power thingy. haha. but yea, if you were able to the power manager reset, then it was just a minor draining thing.
this thing happened to me when i had a bluetooth mouse, usb mouse, mbox, external monitor, usb keyboard, iLok usb dongle, usb hard drive all plugged in. hahaha. my computer was like, are you serious! but after all of that craziness. i reset, and it's fine!
