  • Pls help me with  Mac and had a trial  serial number problems

    Hi,
I downloaded first the trial version of Photoshop, after 30 days finished but the icon still remained.
Now, when purchased a creative suite 4 Designe premium, installed, all programs are fine, just the photoshop not working, asking for serial number but when I type the right numbers, doesn`t accept.
What can I do? any idea?
to uninstall the photoshop and install again?
but if I have the other programs working and installed?

Hi,thank you, that is fine, just not so quick but I resolved the problem alone. Thanks anyway you helped me.Eva

Hello, Eva. For CS4 problems, you need to ask in the Photoshop forum (this is the Photoshop Elements forum). It's here:

  • External Hard drive help: use with mac and pc? how to backup everything etc

Hello! I need some help regarding a new external hard drive I got from OWC. It is a 500 gb firewire 400 + usb 2.0 7200 rpm hard drive. I am running it from firewire. The software suggests the first thing you do is make a clone of your macbooks internal hard drive, that way if it fails later you can use the external to back everything up. If I do this ...
    1. do I have to make the drive "Bootable" ? I have software called Data Backup 3 by Pro soft I think. It came with my external.
    2. Can I still back up other stuff like my audio recordings and record onto that drive to a seperate folder?
    3. If I make a bootable copy will it try and boot from the drive everytime I turn it on or something?
My other question is... how can I use this drive with a pc? I have a pc as well and I heard that the only way it will work is to format it in ms-dos mode (fat32?)
If I write it to fat32 will it slow down my drive or make it worse? I heard that you should format external drives specifically for mac if you have a mac; so it will only work with macs...
(sorry this is going on and on; it's like a chain reaction of questions)
so If its formatted to mac drive format then can I do this with my current situation:
    1. I have wireless internet, the router is on a pc downstairs
    2. Can I send files over a network somehow from the pc to my mac
    3. then store it on my external?
If so can someone point me in that direction with a link?
Thank you for reading, sorry for making this so long.

    1. No, you don't have to make a bootable clone.
    2. If you use the drive for a bootable backup, then you cannot use the drive for other types of storage unless you partition the drive and make more than one volume.
    3. No, it will not try to boot the computer. You must designate the startup volume using Startup Disk preferences.
If you wish to use the drive on both a Mac and a PC, then either you make two partitions - one for Mac and the other for the PC or you must format the entire drive using FAT32 so the drive can be used for read//write by both operating systems. If you do this then you cannot use the drive for a bootable backup nor can you use it with Time Machine.
FAT32 is slower for read/write on the Mac than using Mac formatting.
Optimally, I would suggest you partition the drive into two volumes. One volume formatted for the Mac and the other formatted FAT32.
You can send files from a PC to a Mac and vice-versa using File Sharing. Select Mac Help from the Finder's Help menu and search for "file sharing" or "sharing" to find help articles. Also see,

  • Trouble with Mac Unexpectedly Quitting

I have a iMac with the following hardware overview:
    Model Name: iMac
    Model Identifier: iMac7,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache (per processor): 4 MB
    Memory: 2 GB
    Bus Speed: 800 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: IM71.007A.B03
    SMC Version: 1.20f4
I have trouble with programs unexpectedly quitting and am having trouble finding out what's wrong. The most problems occur when using Photoshop Elements 4.0.1 (which happens multiple times daily, usually if not always when I'm trying to save), but I've also had Safari quit unexpectedly. I've been working with both Apple Care and the Adobe technical support and have found no solutions as of yet. Here are all of the things I've tried to date (and none have yet solved the problem):
    - Emptied Cache and Cookies folders
    - Run Repair Disk Permissions & Verify Disk
    - Re-installed Adobe Photoshop Elements
    - Created a new user account and tried running the program from within there
    - Booted up the computer in safe mode and run the program (still quit unexpectedly)
Was being helped by Apple Care once again and they were going to have me re-install Max OS X, but the guy suggested I post here first for advice.
I do have the option of upgrading to Max OS X Leopard, but didn't want to complicate things (although maybe they'd improve).
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Definitely not a tech wiz, but do understand a bit.
    Thanks for reading this...

    Welcome to the Forums
Did you run Repair Disk from your Install Disc? Boot holding down the C Key
From the Installer Menu select Utilities>Disk Utility>Repair Disk..Reboot
    Then..Applications>Utilities>Disk Utility>Repair Disk Permissions.

  • (Cross Post! SORRY!)  Having trouble with Mac Pro and Vista/Boot Camp

I feel like this board is more populated, so I thought I'd post this here as well. Forgive me.
Ok, so it took me forever to install Vista. It kept saying my partition wasn't valid even after I'd format it. After restarting like 15 times it finally went through. So, it installed.
BUT, now I have two issues. When Vista starts, I get this weird jumble of like MS-DOS text talking about partitions, weird numbers, my monitors just flash and kinda go nuts with the text then at the top after like 10 second of text, it says 'booting windows vista' with more ms-dos text. Finally after 30 seconds of that, it shows me that green bar that shows up to load Vista then voila, Vista is up and running. The OS works fine, but no matter what, I go through that jumble of text. Any way to get rid of it? What's wrong with it?
Also, now that I've installed Vista, I can't get back into OS X. I have a wireless PC keyboard and a wireless bluetooth Apple keyboard, so I don't know what to do. When I go into Vista's Control Panel to select Startup Disk it says it can't load the program. So I'm at a loss. I really wanna get back into OS X!
    Any help would be fantastic!!

Ok, I fixed the issue by using the wireless PC keyboard. I put the Vista install DVD in the drive and restarted the computer. The computer wouldn't recognize the OS X DVD.
I remembered that the computer would register the keyboard inputs after restarting from the Vista Install Screen, so I restarted, held down alt on the PC keyboard and it worked!
Now with the apple keyboard working, I restarted and reset the PRAM which made the computer boot into OS X by default instead of Vista.
BUT, I still get that weird DOS text every time I load Vista, and now after keeping Vista running for a few hours, it starts kinda glitching over time. It loses connection with the network (I had to physically unplug and plug back in the ethernet cable to get it to recognize the network) and for some reason in order to use my apple keyboard, I have to turn it off and on when I get into Vista. It's annoying.
Anywho, if anyone can help me with my Vista problems, that'd be grand :P

  • Can somebody please help me? I'm having trouble with Mac OS X Lion.

Ok so, I left my screen-saver on all night, without the adapter plugged and it had died over night, I thought since it would just die on its own it won't be as bad...but when I tried to restart it, it was stuck on the apple icon and continuously kept loading. So I grabbed my phone and looked up how to recover my Mac and in which it worked, bringing me to the Utility Panel. But now, I want to reinstall Mac OS X Lion, but it won't allow me, because my files are too full and I can't get back on my homepage, to delete them by the Start up disk. So, how can I delete all the files and re-boot Mac OS X Lion? Or how can I safely back up my files or more "free spacing"? I don't have an extra hard drive disk or anything. So I was just thinking about completely re-starting everything. 0 files for everything. So, someone please, please help! This is really getting on my last nerve /:

Without a backup drive to use you can only free up space by deleting files:
Freeing Up Space on The Hard Drive
    See Lion's Storage Display.
You can remove data from your Home folder except for the /Home/Library/ folder.
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on freeing up space on your hard drive.
Also see Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk.
Remember that must moving files into the Trash does not delete them completely. You must also Empty the Trash in order to recover the space they occupied on the hard drive.
Beyond that you can install from scratch:
Install or Reinstall Lion from Scratch
If possible backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Help needed with Mac Server set up

    Hi
I have purchased a mini mac server, that i want to use as a replacement for my windows home server, for basic back ups & to run a website with possible remote access.
At the initial configuration screen where if you manually configure your connection via ethernet, after putting the desired internal ip, sub net, router and DNS, it should find my domain on the next page where the server would be named. this does not happen, ( this is where i need the help )
    I have a domain name
fixed external ip with my it pointing to my domain name
and a RDNS setup with my ISP
    Any help?
you can email me directly : [email protected]
    many thanks

If you're running NAT, well, you have some choices on how you might choose to [set up DNS services|http://labs.hoffmanlabs.com/node/1436]. Once you get that sorted, there's a link there to the set-up for the public-facing (outside your external firewall) network configuration, too.

  • Trouble with Mac mini and samsung 5 series tv

Hi there, have just bought a second hand mini and trying to hook it up to my samsung 5 serties tv!!! easy or so i thought!! iget the apple loading screen (grey one!) and then it goes blank and nothing else happens! has anyone got any suggestions? thanks in advance!

If you look through the threads here you'll find that this sort of issue has come up quite often, both with TVs and even with some monitors. Typically the problem is that once the system has booted to the point that the screen changed from the grey one with Apple logo, it's loading the preferences previously set in MacOS. When that happens, if the system has display preferences set that the display itself can't work with, the screen will generally go blank, or show a very distorted or rolling image. If your mini had previously been used with a relatively high resolution or refresh rate setting which your TV can't cope with, it means you need to reset the mini's preferences to something more basic, at least to get you going.
You can do this in a number of ways, but the easiest is probably to go ahead and connect the system to a computer monitor and boot it up, then set the display preferences to something very basic such as 800x600. If you don't have a computer monitor to connect to, then instead, boot the system into safe mode by holding the shift key down as the system boots. This should set it to a basic resolution the TV can manage. Open the display preference pane and set a 800x600 resolution.
If that still doesn't help, boot again (to computer monitor or into safe mode) and in the Finder's Edit menu, use the Find command to search for all instances of 'windowserver' (no quotes) and drag all instances found (there should be 3 or 4) to the trash. These are the files that tell MacOS what settings to use for the display, so trashing them will prevent the system using previously settings. After that, reboot normally. With those files missing, the Mac will create new ones when it boots and loads MacOS, giving you a usable display at low resolution. You should be able to work from there to get the correct resolution set for your TV.

  • Trouble with mac drivers installing correctly on windows xp on macbook

i just got my new macbook and have figured out how to get boot camp and got a version of windows xp.
everything successfully installed except what seems to be the most important part. when my mac osx driver cd comes to one of the last steps where it says its "registering" something. then the box comes up where it gives me the choice of the recomended STOP instalation or to continue the instalation. i chose cotinue instalation as intructed in the bootcamp set up guide and the same choice box appears again. after i choose to continue for the second time a fatal error message occurs and says that nothing really got installed.
If anybody could help me out at all with this is would be greatly appreciated.
thanks in advance for any and all advice!

There is a discussion group for Boot Camp. Search in that group for answers, this has been covered before.
Remember you are not only using beta software you are using it to install Windows.
Before heading off in a great search in the Boot Camp discussions... Be absolutely certain that you have WinXP (Pro or Home) with Service Pack 2 (SP2) installed. While in WinXP right click on "My Computer" and select "Properties", it will tell you if this is true.
Some folks have resorted to unpacking the driver file & installing each one at a time. The drivers can be unpacked using a command line switch. I don't remember the exact syntax - but a quick search in the Boot Camp discussion group should bring you the answer.
Good luck! And remember... BACK UP your OSX data!

  • Bluetooth trouble with Mac Pro

    Hi
I have recently bought a D-Link DBT-120 Bluetooth Adapter for my Mac Pro and i am losing connection with my devices on waking the Mac Pro from sleep, both my Logitech Bluetooth Mouse and a Jabra headset. Typically I need to disconnect and reconnect the adapter before they will work again. Does anyone know what i can do to get this working properly. I get the same issues whether i plug the adapter into the front of the Mac Pro or the back of my Cinema Display which is ideally where i would like to connect it.
    thanks

  • Help trouble with forwarded message

    Hello,
I realized that many people have this issues as I had recently, but I still need some help about this.
I found that original sender was actually receiving my forwarded message to other people.  I had an important correspondence to make with my Attorney since February, I forwarded several messages from my opponent to my attorney.  We have been resolving issues very well, but one day, the opponents suddenly changed their attitude and giving me a hard time.  I was checking my older correspondence with the person who was actually mediating the situation and found out that my conversation with my attorney was leaked to the opponents because I hit "forward" to including the original message from the sender(opponent).  The mediator actually saw what I was talking with my attorney.  it was bad enough, the mediator was not telling me she was recovering my e-mail to my attorney.  Now I have a trust issue to my mediator.  It is not professional that mediator leaked my conversation with my attorney to the opponents, but Apple mail set up caused this situation.  Am I wrong?  I want to know if I could avoid this by myself, if it was my problem, I want Apple to teach me how to use e-mail setting correctly ASAP.  In my understanding, it should be my choice if I including the original sender or not when I forward the message to others, correct?
Why Apple automatically include the original sender when I forward my comments to others???
is anyone know to fix this problem?  We act civil to each other and the mediator was taking her position fairly, but once they knew my attorney has more to say to opponents, the mediator revealed her position toward executives in the company (opponent)  My legal issue to justify my position should not be jeopardized by something like this that I cannot control.  Bad thing is I didn't know the opponent are reading my conversation to my attorney until now.  I didn't say anything wrong on the e-mail to my attorney to offend the opponent, but the opponent has been over reacting to the issue with me.  Original issue was mediated by the mediator, but now I need my attorney longer to resolve the issue.  Because of the forwarding message setting with Apple, I had extra problem.  I recently send a message to the mediator and asked if she received any e-mail that should be going only to my attorney, she has no answer.  I don't like any e-mail setting I cannot fix causes this trouble in the future.  I will never forward the message to my attorney and ask a question again, but I want Apple to make better setting to avoid this kind of situation.

seems like you tried to invoke the method parseXml of the class com.bt.ma.utils.xmlPolicyReader but used a wrong (illegal & incompatible) parameter attribute...

  • Help needed with Mac - Windows networking

The situation is a Mac running OS 10.4 and a Toshiba laptop (PC) running XP. Bonjour for Windows is installed on the PC.
I'm able to connect from the Mac to the PC and mount "My documents".
Bonjour for Windows regcognized the printer which is shared by the Mac.
    Problem:
I'm NOT able to connect from the PC to the Mac.
    I try to connect to:
    \\192.168.1.100\shortname
I get a authentication window where I type the same username and password that I use when I log in to the Mac.
    The authentication window returns with:
    username: WORKGROUP\username
but does not give me access. It keeps returning.
Furthermore I can print to the Mac shard printer from the PC, but it doesn't work.
Personal File Sharing and Windows Sharing are running.
Maybe these to problems: logging-in and printing are related.
Your help is very much appreciated because I have no idea what the solution is.
    Thanks in advance.

OK, I've got the first part, connecting from PC to Mac, working now. I had to re-type my Mac password in Accounts (the account was created before Panter was installed)
Printing from PC on the Mac shared printer is still not possible. I-re-created the printer with Bonjour on the PC.
When I print, the queue stays empty and nothing comes out of the printer.
    Any suggestions?

  • Someone please help me with mac & Elements 3.0

I'm a aged computer novice, so please be gentle with any answers (treat me like a 1st year school child when answering )
I run Elements 3.0 and have just purchased a Macbook pro, running Snow Leopard, because my children said its user friendly.
I have used this program on a windows machine fine. Ive loaded the software onto said Mac but when I click the file, Adobe starts to load then the following error message appears "Could not complete your request because of missing or invalid personalization information".
I rang Adobe support, had the phone disconnected on me, rang them back, struggled to get understood, told to download updates, I did, went to the website and tried to copy them into the file format, and it took me to a chinese takeaway website, only joking.. the same error message still appears.
I dont know what i'm doing, if i'm doing it correctly or should put the damn Mac in the bin/Ebay.
Can anyone out there help a doddering old luddite

In order to use a program that is not written for intel processors (no macs had intel processors back when PSE 3 was created) you must run them in Rosetta, which is a part of OS X that emulates the older system architecture. In 10.5 rosetta installs as part of the OS; in 10.6 you have to install it yourself. Programs running in Rosetta are much slower than  programs running natively.

  • Help Please with Mac OS X Server v10.5

Hello, I am a newbee to the discussions board...I currently have a 17" 2.6ghz 4GB 200GB ATA @ 7200 MacBook Pro and I am wanting to start learning how to use the Mac OS X Server10.5 - This is my main computer I also run Adobe CS3 on the computer - if I was to purchase the server software for 499.00 would I be able to install it on my MacBook Pro and learn how to use it so at some point I can use it to manage a future business with 5-10 employees - I have no idea how to use this server software so I was thinking learn at home on my laptop before buying more expensive hardware - am I on the right track or is this not going to work - any help is greatly appreciated...Thanks

Hello and welcome to the Apple Discussion boards!
Well, the honest answer is that it will work but I think that quite a few 'features' might not be convenient/functional to use if you travel with the laptop.
There is nothing that stops Server from being installed on it. If it is just that this is your 'desktop' machine and normally does not leave the network it is currently attached to, it would be more than adequate. In other words, 'Tinkering' will be fine for this setup, but any type of 'serious' serving might overwhelm the HD (it is 'smaller', lower rotational speed, possible long term effects of 24 hour uptime use et al) but everything else will work as intended.
