Help troubleshoot this message: message overflow on /dev/log minor #5

During boot with LOTS of disk LUNs I get this message:
message overflow on /dev/log minor #5 -- is syslogd(1M) running?
What is the cause of it?
My system is Solaris 10 with up to date patches as of Jan 10/06.

As supporting info that may be helpful, I have a V880 running Solaris 9 (not 10) that is seeing the same issue. This would appear to be a problem that is not limited to just Solaris 10.

message overflow on /dev/log minor #5 -- is syslogd(1M) running?
My box essentially crashed over the weekend. Not really crashed but I was getting so many of these:
message overflow on /dev/log minor #6 -- is syslogd(1M) running?
syslogd: malloc failed: dropping message: Not enough space
syslogd: malloc failed: dropping message: Not enough space
syslogd: malloc failed: dropping message: Not enough space
syslogd: malloc failed: dropping message: Not enough space
that the box was essentially dead. 10-20 minutes between command outputs.

Hi, the console for sun v880 is giving the message as shown below:
message overflow on /dev/log minor #6 -- is syslogd (1M) running?
Note: The operating system is solaris 9. This same message is repeated and is full on console screen. Here we are having 2 nodes configured with sun clusters using sun cluster 3.1 software. And we are running oracle 9i RAC database. The message is repeating on one node, the other node is ok.
Kindly help me to solve this problem.
    thanks,

Same here. The login works, but the Stream - according to the ATV - says there are "0" photos. Which is bogus.

  • Please help me to troubleshoot this message:

"The software required for communicating with the iPod is not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes to install the iPod's software."
I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this, but here's the background in case someone can help me.
I am a new user. I received a mini iPod for Father's Day.
I started by simply transferring my CD collection to my iPod. The other day I browsed iTunes for the first time, with a view toward buying songs to add to my iPod. I noticed that there was a new version of iTunes available (6.0), so I installed it over the previous version I had on my computer. Then I selected a bunch of songs and placed them in my shopping cart. Smooth sailing. The problem came when I connected my iPod with the intention of purchasing the songs and putting them on my iPod. iTunes did not seem to recognize that my iPod was plugged in. I got a pop-up with the message quoted above. I'm not sure what to do next. Whatever I have tried has not worked. I reinstalled iTunes several times, to no avail. I'm afraid to do too much trial and error, because I have heard the horror stories of people doing the wrong thing and losing their songs.

Hi David and welcome to Apple Discussions.
XP's Fast User Switching feature can give you this error, as it doesn't play well with iTunes. If you're using it, try disabling it and see if the message reoccurs. Go to Start/Control Panel/User Accounts then 'Change the way users log on and off' and remove the checkmark from Fast User Switching.
Fast User Switching in Windows XP is not supported
If you're not using Fast User Switching, try uninstalling iTunes, following the below instructions, then reinstall.

  • HT1689 I am trying to pair my iPhone with my mac computer at home via bluetooth, but I am getting a message that iMac is not supported. Can someone help troubleshoot this problem

How can I pair my iPhone 4 to my computer via bluetooth?

Actually you can if you have tethering on your phone. I tether via bluetooth with my macbook air all the time. It will only pair if you have tethering turned on and if your carrier supports it. Otherwise it will not pair.

  • Any help on this message while RE-INIT?

    Hi,
I just tried to REINIT. Now I see the datasource on the R3 side in rsa7 but when I double click on it  shows no data.  In troubleshooting, Monitor gives a message that:
    “Diagnosis
You have not set the indicator "Update data in source system immediately" on the "Update parameters" tabstrip in the Scheduler.”
I can’t seem to find where this setting is. I looked on R3 and BW with no luck.
    Any help?
    Thanks

    Hi,
Before I tried to implement the suggestions, let me make sure I understand it well:
    1. Are saying that before, I even Re-INIT, I should have replicated the datasource on BW? So should I deleted the Re-INIT, replicate 2LIS_13_VAITM the datasource), and re-init?
    2. Are you saying the step in 1 above would have made the datasource name appear as a queue in  rsa7 in R3?
If so, why do I now have the datasource showing in rsa7 in R3 now (it was not there before). It showed up there hours after I Re-INIT although the Re-INIT failed with the message I posted before.
    3. So what about my original message, it seems to be suggesting to check a box, which I can’t find. Can you comment on that?
    4. On your last question, on R3, I executed sm13.
    The options were: Canceled / To be Updated / V1 / V3 / All
I executed each option but the “List contains no data”. So what does that mean?
    <b>Additional info on the environment:</b>
This is Netweaver environment i.e. the latest BW.
In LBWE (on R3), the Update Modes are “Direct Delta”, “Queued Delta” and “Unserialized V3 Update”. Does it have anything to do with your question? I don’t have V1, V2 here.
Also, for my specific datasource, 2LIS_13_VDITM, it is “Active” but it is not “modifiable”
    Thanks

  • Please help with this message..

I am completely new to this. i have written a code from one of the tutorials and fixed two of the errors in it so far but when i try to compile it there is one error i don't know how to fix. it says:
    Line.java:1: Class or interface expected
    HTML
    ^
    1 error
please let me know how to fix this.

As aphex_xearo implies, it's hard to say without seeing the code. When I get this error, it usually means I left out or have an extra ; { } ( ) in a line just above the error.

  • Need some help troubleshooting this code

I have the following code in a JSP (HTML stuff edited out). If I run it as it is I get a blank page. But if I comment out the line that says "ruleName = rs.getInt("rule_name");" I am able to see the output of the prepared statement call. I need to see the results of both queries. Any ideas how I can fix this? Thanks.

  • Need help troubleshooting this CSS Issue

I have a test page setup here:
    http://www.pasewark.com/advisein/index.html
On the left side of the page which starts with "Advise-in Solutions Home" I noticed that the green cell background color goes away in Firefox. The nav is created in CSS and someow I think its affecting the rendering of the green cell color. I've tested it in Safari & Firefox on Mac and IE and Firefox on PC. The issue only manifests in Firefox.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

  • Do you know this messages ?

    Hi...everyone !
I finded this messages in my devies log file.
but, I don't know what is mean it.
*Mar 2 06:10:32 UTC: %RCMD-4-RSHPORTATTEMPT: Attempted to connect to RSHELL from x.x.x.x
do you know this messages ?
    I wait your answer.
    thank you.

That message means that someone is attempting to make an rshell (remote shell) connection to your device.
Someone is possibly trying to exploit an rshell vulnerability but I'm pretty sure that the message means that the router is not configured as a rsh server. So you should not have anything to worry about...
Hope that helps - pls rate the post if it does.

  • The name of your computer "Alpha (3376)" is already in use on this network. The name has been changed to "Alpha (6759)".  Why do I keep getting this message?

I keep getting this message every time I log in.  Why?   I have an iMac with sharing on for my networked printer and to share file between the iMac and my MacBook.  Can anyone help?

This is an annoying but not disastrous thing. Your computer sends messages on your home network and each message includes its name. If your computer is restarted or if it goes to sleep and wakes up all those messages should now gone but sometimes when the computer reconnects to the network it picks up a message with its name in it. Your computer doesn't realize its an old message from itself, it thinks the message is from a computer with the same name and that's not permitted so your computer's name is automatically changed.
Temporary solution (or not): turn everything off - your computers, printers, internet modem and router; any and all devices that are connected to your network. Then restart them. I hear about this issue all the time and this solution has been temporary for some people (days, weeks, or months) and for others it has seemingly solved it totally.
