Help turning off function keys

I am running Final Cut Pro on my Mac Book Pro, and would like to use the F Key shortcuts, but can't figure out how to override the default Mac settings. For example, I would like to use the F9 and F10 keys for Final Cut's overwrite and insert, but they just control the keyboard illumination. How do I get around this?

  • How to turn off Function Keys permanently

How do you turn off the function keys permanently? In Quark I use the 'F' keys for guides etc... and just want to have to press one key, not two.

Before you go to the trouble of entering all the keys see if the Quark default F-Keys will work. I don't have much in the way of apps loaded on Leopard yet but the default Photoshop F-keys work without my disabling anything in keyboard shortcuts. F9 still brings up Expose in Photoshop but I haven't disabled it. I don't know, however, if Quark XPress works that way, though. They tend to play by their own rules

  • How to turn off 'Return Key jumps to next cell' in Tables?

I can't find where you turn off this feature.  I want to type two paragraphs in a cell with a space between them.  I've wasted 2 hours trying to figure this out.  Please help!

Hey, I just wanted to let you know I've been having the same issue with the new 3.0 update for Numbers and just found a keyboard shortcut that has helped me a great deal.  I guess I'll be using this until they add an option to turn that "Return Key Moves to Next Cell" off, like the older versions had...
Anyway, if you place the cursor where you'd like a line break and press Ctrl+O (mind you I do mean Ctrl and NOT Command here), it will insert a line break at that place.  Hope this helps!

  • Hibernation turns on Function Keys

On a G62-225DX notebook, when I hibernate my computer overnight and turn it on the next morning, the function keys enable themselves (they're previously disabled, i.e. press fn + F key to use the function).  However, when I restart and go into BIOS, the setting for them says they're disabled, so I actually don't need to change the setting.  When I proceed with startup, the keys are now disabled.  Also, if I hibernate the comp when function keys are disabled and start it back up immediately, the function keys are still disabled.  What's wrong?

A few things to try first off would be a hard reset and BIOS Update.
Go ahead and make sure you have the latest BIOS (Version F.37 Download) and then do the hard reset:
    To Perform A Hard Reset
Shut down the computer by going to the Start menu and selecting shut down. (If you have no display, hold the power button down for  5 seconds); (if the computer doesn't power on, move to the next step)
Disconnect the AC Adapter from the notebook.
Remove the battery from the bottom of the notebook.  There will be a switch/button to eject the battery.
Wait at least 1 minute with all power sources disconnected.
Re-insert the battery and reconnect the AC Adapter and then attempt to power on the notebook.

  • How do I turn off F key control?

I have turned off all F-key options in Keyboard & Mouse preferences and Expose, but when I hit F keys in open applications, they do something other than what the application calls for. Specifically, when I hit F1, it hides open application, as if I had hit command-H. Any help appreciated

  • Help turning off feature that opens all pages and numbers docs.

How can I turn off feature that opens all numbers and pages documents each time I open the respective program?

What version of OS X are you using? That information will help in providing a specific solution.
If you close all documents before quitting Numbers or Pages, you won't have them reopening when you launch the app again. You can quickly close all open windows in an application by typing ⌘ ⌥ W (Command + Option + W) or hold down the Option/alt key while clicking the red close button.
Other things you can do to turn off this resume feature:
In Lion, Mountain Lion & Mavericks you can set System Preferences > General to close windows when quitting an application.
Try Mountain Tweaks The option to turn off resume is at the bottom of the left-hand column under Lion. This solution does not work in Mavericks.

  • Turning off all key tones on Blackberry Curve 8330

Is there a way to turn off all of the key tones on the Blackberry Curve 8330 so that when you dial numbers you do not hear a noise?  The only thing that I see is to turn the Key tones on which makes all of the keys make a noise.  I want to be able to dial a call without hearing the key tones.  Is it possible to do this on this phone?  Thank you.
    Solved!

Hello jhnstn33. In the newer device software if your Profile is set to Quiet, Silent, or Vibrate then you won't get the tones when you dial a number. I'm not sure if that changed in 4.5 or 4.6. Which version of the software are you running? You can find out under Options | About.

  • Help; Turn off Sound

I have tried everything to get sounds turned off for any and everything in Mail.
I exported all my mailboxes. Then threw out the entire mail folder from my home library folder; deleted all preferences related to mail from my preference folder.
Setup all my accounts again, Gmail, Mobile Me, and one Exchange account.
I am unable to turn off the new mail sound. I have it unchecked in Mail preferences including; having no sounds for any other actions.
I am sure it is something simple but no idea what.
    Osx 10.6.4; updated.
    Imac, Mid 2010, I7m, 12 gig ram
    thanks for any suggestions.

Of course it is a big deal!
The shutter sound is very annoying when you snap a pic in a lecture hall, museum, zoo, theatre, school, etc. Covering the speaker is not a realistic option. The invention of digital cameras without moving parts made it possible to shoot pictures without bothering your enviroment with undesired noise. By forcing a synthetic shutter sound down our throat Nokia turned back the clock.
That camera noise is not just inconvenient, it's more than that. Should we allow a handful of countries with mandatory shutter sound to force their rules onto the entire world? In some places you enter a legal minefield if you have a beer with your picknick in the park. Should we let brewers force-feed us their version of a digital shutter sound in the form of an unremovable brown paper bag on each and every bottle on the planet?
