Help! Unable to restore iPad! Need it ASAP!

Hello,
Unfortunately the USB cable was disconnected while attempting to update the software. Now I'm caught in an endless loop of trying to restore my iPad.
I see all of the apps in iTunes, and the iPad shows up in iTunes. But the iPad is acting like it's being turned on for the first time.
So far, I've repeated this a few times, and it's time consuming.
1. Restore iPad
2. Restore backup.
After the iPad finishes the restore process, I'm still greeted with the "Hello" screen on the iPad.
I've also tried restoring from the iPad, but it yields the same results.
I totally rely on my ipad for my gig tonight, and I'm screwed without it. Please help!
iPad 2, iTunes 11.1.4, Macbook Pro.
Thanks!
Joe

After the restore did the phone work properly for a while? Say, a day or so?
If so it is possible you have an app that doesn't let go of memory properly. I reboot my iPhone ( hold sleep/wake and hole till you see the apple logo) every few days. This resets the memory. The iPhone OS has doesn't seem to mange memory very well yet. So a reboot will help with that. I have had my phone almost slow to a stop before I started rebooting. Always reboot after installing a new app. Also do you close all pages in Safari when you are done? This is a good practice. Safari will run in the background and use processor time and drain your battery quicker. Create a new blank page then close all others when you are done browsing for a while. I have also found that certain web site that have animated images like weather maps will turn the phone into molasses. As soon as i close that page it gets faster.
If all of the above have no effect then as Tamara said it is time for a trip to the Genius bar.
    Good luck

Disconnect the iPad from your Mac.
    Open the Finder.
From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/Networkinterfaces.plist
Click Go then move the Networkinterfaces.plist file to the Trash.

  • Unable to Restore iPad Air With iPad 2 Backup

    Hello All,
I just purchased an iPad Air 128Gb Wi-Fi version to replace my iPad 2 64 Gb Wi-Fi version. I tried to restore the iPad Air with the iPad 2 backup through iTunes, but each time it aborts with a message to effect that the iPad 2 backup is either corrupted or not compatible. I tried backing up the iPad 2 again and then restoring iPad Air with the newer backup - but get the same message.
The result of this is that it is trying to sync all my old Apps but without their data - i.e. no previous game saves and the like. It also is not maintaining the folder structure that I previously had on my iPad 2.
Is there some kind of compatibility problem with restoring from an iPad 2 backup? This seems strange since my iPad 2 is only 2 years old. I've seen that other people had similar problems but with different devices. I'm just wondering if anyone has had this problem trying to restore to an iPad Air from an older iPad backup, and how do you get around this problem?
Any help would be tremendously appreciated. I really need to get my old App data and App folder structure from the old iPad backup.
FYI, I made sure that both the iPad 2 and the iPad air are both using iOS 7.0.3 in case that matters.

New problem following up on the previous.
My iPad Air restoration from iPad 2 backup is not proceeding smoothly. Specifically, the Apps are taking forever to download - it's been 48 hours and I have yet to complete the download process. Granted, I had a 64gb ipad 2 but I'm using a cable internet connnection. Also, some of the Apps are being copied without preserving the folder structure from my iPad 2. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to why this is happening.
I tried plugging my iPad Air into iTunes thinking it would reload the Apps faster, but this only results in one of the following situations each time I sync:
    1) The iPad spends a long time syncing, specifically, it hangs on Step 6 without end. If allowed to go overnight, I will discover it the next morning still on step 6.
    2) The iPad finishes syncing (per iTunes), but when I check the iPad, there are still Apps waiting to download.
    3) The iPad syncs, but then it says that 20+ apps could not be copied because of insufficient free space. A look at the status bar shows that there is at least 14-20 Gb free on the iPad Air. (***?)
    4) The iPad syncs, but the few Apps that do copy show up without the folder structure preserved from my iPad 2.
Now, the reason I didn't want to restore from an iCloud backup is to avoid the eternal restore process. I can't figure out why it's taking so long. I kept my iPad next to my wireless router, so I know it's not a router problem. My internet was working so that's not the problem. Now.... I would be happy to restore from an iTunes backup, but I was unable to do so in the first place - kept getting "file corrupted or incompatible" message, which is what prompted me to post in the first place.
    Is anyone else experiencing this?

  • HT201210 What is error 28 (unable to restore ipad)?

Ipad needs to be restored, but won't complete the restore.  Error message contains code 28 in parenthesis.  Any clues about what I could do?

    Hello ehand5798,
Here is some information from our article named iTunes: Specific update-and-restore error messages and advanced troubleshooting found here http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694#error28
    Error 20, 21, 23, 26, 28, 29, 34, 36, 37, 40
These errors typically occur when security software interferes with the restore and update process. FollowTroubleshooting security software issues to resolve this issue. In rare cases, these errors may be a hardware issue. If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.
Also, check your hosts file to verify that it's not blocking iTunes from communicating with the update server. See iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting—follow steps under the heading Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > Mac OS X > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store. If you have software used to perform unauthorized modifications to the iOS device, uninstall this software prior to editing the hosts file to prevent that software from automatically modifying the hosts file again on restart.
    All the best,
    Sterling

  • Unable to restore iPad from recent iTunes update.

So I updated to iTunes 10.7. Afterwards it told me I had to wipe my iPad 2 and restore it. After wiping my iPad however I am unable to restore it. It's stuck in recovery mode. So here is what I have done:
I have read support articles like this: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4097
I have rebooted, reset, unplugged and re-plugged my iPad multiple times.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes three times now.
I have tried different USB ports.
I have tried to direct Windows Vista to the Mobile Device Support/Drivers folder however Windows can not locate the usbaapl.inf. It's there but windows doesn't recognise it.
I am tapped out here. Any advice would be appreciated, my iPad is a paper weight at this point.

Explain which way you tried to restore from a backup.
Did you try to use iCloud? If you did, what happened when you tried?
Or did you use iTunes and what happened when you tried that way?

  • HT201210 unable to restore ipad and will not start

I tried to restore ipad to manufacturer's settings, and it started to do it, and then iTunes gives me an alert, it cannot complete the request for some make up thing.  Any clues? mu iPad is dead.  It keeps telling me to connect to iTunes, iTunes extracts the software and then it quits.

Are you currently using a devloper version of iOS or is the device jailbroken?
    Try this
Make sure OS and itunes on computer is updated.
Unlplug ipad from computer but leave other end of usb cord plugged into pc.
Press the power button until the ipad shuts down.
Hold home button on ipad and at the same time plub usb cord into ipad. DO NOT LET GO OF HOME BUTTON
You should see a pop-up message in itunes stating, 'itunes has detected an ipad in recovery mode....'
You should now be able to restore
If that doesn't work, try another usb port on computer, disable all security software, or try another computer

  • PLEASE HELP - Unable to restore all messages from my backup file (.bbb) - 21800 messages and I need them all

    Hi.
This is not the first time I encountered this issue. The backup file itself is 18.5MB in size. The critical stuff is my 21800 messages (emails for 7 different email accounts). Whenever I do a restore, the DM only reads 13859 messages and unfortunately not in reverse order. So I end up with no emails for the last 7 months! BIG PROBLEM for me! I have done a selective restore. I have done a complete wipe and then a full restore (no success), then deleted all data and tried a selective restore and only selected the messages (still only around 13,500 messages).
There appears to be a limitation around the 13500 mark for messages.
    PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE help.

It's been a while since I used Apple's Backup, but you should be able to select "Restore" from within the app to find an iCal backup file. When you find your most recent backup file restore it to your main computer. An iCal backup should look like this: "iCal - 10/31/06.icbu". Once you have the file you can just double click on it and iCal will open and give a warning about overwriting your current database file. You can just select "Revert" to overwrite the current file since you have nothing in it now. Everything should then go back to the state it was in since your last backup. You might lose some of your most recent entries if they were not in the backup, but you should get back most of what you lost. Good Luck!!

  • Unable to Restore iPad. How do I fix it?

I am having major trouble restoring my iPad.
Here are the steps I did:
    1) I was trying to upgrade my iPad to iOS5. So I first upgraded iTunes on my Mac to the latest 10.5 version. That went ok although it was crashing several times in the beginning. But is stable now after a couple of days.
    2) I plugged in my iPad to the Mac and iTunes detected it. I have used this iPad with this iTunes several times to sync photos, music and download podcasts etc.
    3) When I asked to update the iPad software, it said "This iPad is not synced with this iTunes library". And then it gave all kinds of confusing messages e.g. your apps over here will be deleted, your items in the library will be missing etc. I basically said replace anything you like on the iPad and asked to proceed.
    4) It then made some progress (downloaded the new iOS5 I believe, attempted to upgrade). But finally it failed after wiping out everything on my iPad.
    Current status
On my iPad: All I see is the iTunes icon with the USB cable asking me to plugin to iTunes.
On iTunes: iPad "iPad" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1).
I have tried the process now over 20 times but no luck. Tried to restart the Mac, restarted iTunes, tried after 12 hours, tried on a different network etc. etc. But no luck whatsoever.
Where is the ******* simplicity that Apple seems to offer!! Someone help restore my iPad and help restore my faith in Apple.
    Thanks,
    Abhinav

As it happens, just completed a family visit trip to a location with Aple Store (San Antonio). The Genius there had the same problem with the update as I. Could not explain the reason nor the fix. The result was a completely new device ( a direct replacement of my original iPad) for no charge. Your milage may vary.
Now, I will begin the restore from my iTunes on my desktop iMac. Wish me luck!

  • Unable to restore ipad

Hi, I'm having problems restoring my Ipad after it was disabled due to too many wrong pin entries. I have tried using the restore option in itunes but keep getting the error message "The iPad software update server could not be contacted" even although my internet connection is fine. I have tried disabling firewall and virusguard, reinstalling itunes, and using DFU mode but always get same error msg!
I went onto the chat several times with itunes support but all they could tell me was try again later. Surely their is a way round this as you would think this is a common problem with people forgetting their pin or kids putting in wrong one. I am using windows vista 32bit on my laptop with up to date itunes.
    Please help?

Is this how you do the Recovery?
    1. Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
    2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
3.While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
    4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears, release the Home button. iTunes should alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then click Restore to restore the device.
Note: Data will be lost. You may have to repeat the above many times.

    From last link above.
Errors 3000-3999 (3004, 3013, 3018, 3164, 3194, and so on): Error codes in the 3000 range generally mean that iTunes can't contact the update server (gs.apple.com)  on ports 80 or 443.
Update to the latest version of iTunes.
Verify the computer's date and time are accurate.
Check that your security or firewall software isn't interfering with ports 80 or 443 or with the server gs.apple.com.
Follow these steps to troubleshoot security software. Often, uninstalling third-party security software will resolve these errors.
An entry in your hosts file may be redirecting requests to gs.apple.com (go to "Unable to contact the iOS software update server gs.apple.com" above).
Internet proxy settings can cause this issue. If you're using a proxy, try again without using a proxy.
Test restoring while connected to a known-good network.
Error 3004: If you're using a Mac, you may be able to resolve an error 3004 by quitting iTunes and using the following command in the command line: dscacheutil -flushcache.
