Help Understanding Codecs for V

My general problem is that when using Avaya VoIP client, my outgoing voice becomes garbled to the end user after a few minutes of conversation. My CPU, an Intel Pentium 4 (3GHz) also kicks into 50% utilization during a conversion, although when the conversations starts, it usually sits at about 7%. I have a high speed 5M download 52 K upload internet line. My sound card is an Audigy 2 ZS. I have eliminated obvious, like insuring other programs are not taking up CPU. I have 2 GB of high speed RAM also. I have also verified that the utilization is from the process in task manager for the IP phone client.
I am wondering since the CPU is being hammered, if I am using a software codec for the VoIP communication link. My device manager shows 3 available audio codecs. I assume that a sound card has its own embedded digital signal processing capabilities that should be capable of doing audio compression. So, my question for any hardware sound blaster guru out there is: Does the sound card do G.729 or G.7 audio compression, or is audio compression for VoIP done by a software codec?
Any comments regarding how audio codecs work in regards to VoIP will be appreciated.
Thanks,
gerryj

So which would format would YOU recommend I hand them for a playable safe-keeping format?  (some are on PC and some are on mac if that makes any difference)

If you properly graded your 8-bit footages, i.e. in 32-bit working space (in terms of PrPro that means enabling 'Maximum Bit Depth' in Sequence Settings), 10-bit render (for which you need to check 'Maximim Bit Depth' in the Export Settings dialog, unless you render into DNxHD in MOV container) preserves quality better than 8-bit. However, if rendering to 8-bit doesn't result in colour bending or something like that, common people will hardly see any difference.
That's interesting. I've never checked that Max Bit Depth box in Sequence Settings. I don't do much grading. Color correction, yes, but nothing too crazy or with tons of layers. I figured checking that would slow things down and speed is paramount. On occasion, I'll noticed some color banding with my footage (like in the gradient of the sky) but not often and no one ever complains.  I used to check Max Bit Depth in export settings not knowing what I was doing but it sounded important so I did...but then I stopped when I had THIS>> (http://forums.adobe.com/message/4773556)<  issue with one of my exports (I changed many settings to get it resolved, and it only went away when max bit depth was unchecked (granted, now that you mention it, I didn't have max bit depth checked during editing in the sequence settings...hmmm).

  • Need some help understanding plugin for Outlook

Testing out the 7.3 plugin for Outlook. I am not clear on how the flagging of spam/not spam etc. works. We have local IronPort devices. We are not cloud based. When a user flags a message as spam in the Inbox, the Admin Guide says Cisco updates the anti-spam filters so the user will not receive emails like this in the future. Not clear how this works. I understand the email is getting submitted to Cisco for analysis but how do they update spam filters for just that one user? I can understand if we were using a cloud device but as I said we have local hardware. Need to understand this process and the Admin Guide falls short of explaining it.

Reporting spam/phish from Outlook via the plug-in only does that.  It is packaging up the message and sending the message example off to our @access.ironport.com address for submission from that end-user.  The plug-in itself is not actually doing any work to update the anti-spam on your appliance.  These submissions are a work by themselves that is submitted and then reviewed from the rules writing process.  In time, these submissions are scored, updated, and then written into the current IPAS (IronPort Anti-Spam) rules sets that are published back out to the ESA(s) themselves.  So - as long as your ESA is set to get updates (by default, each 5 minutes), then you will get the updated rules --- and these rules are for everyone globally.
Hope that helps!  If not - let me know.

  • Help understanding workflow for best quality.

    Greetings.
I've read countless hours on this forum in the effort to understand this extremely complicated subject of getting my video out of my camera and onto a DVD in the best quality possible, and I'm still a little confused.
I'm not recording anything that is particularly high-action, but rather weddings, funerals, (yeah, I know), children's school programs, and my next big project is a seminar with keynote speaker.
I have three Sony HDR SR-11 cameras, which clearly record video as ACHDV and the video signal is 1080/60i (NTSC). I could also record in SD with an MPEG2 file.
I understand the a DVD is only SD at best, and am recording in HD since I have room for the files, and someday we might have better options for the video than we have now.
I started using iMovie, and have iMovie 11, and just love how easy and slick it is to make impressive looking stuff.
Once I import into iDVD to make the cool menus, I use "professional" encoding. I am about to produce a longer video than will fit on a single layer disk, and will be burning to a dual-layer DVD.
I own a copy of FCE, but was overwhelmed when I first started to use it, and on a time crunch for that project, reverted back to iMovie.
How I record events is to set up three cameras from different perspectives and then create a movie from the best angles, switching back and forth. This is a little cumbersome in iMovie, but I've had no trouble except for the date stamp disappearing and having to fix that on my most recent project. (once the date stamp is gone...it's hard to figure out where the clips are that you need for the next minute or two at a time).
I'm about to embark on an effort to market my work professionally, and am clearly working with amateur equipment, and without the time or resources to start all over with a $50K investment, would like to squeak by on what I have, and need to get the best quality possible out of it. Without any question, my market requires the movies to be on DVDs.
I'm most confused by interlacing/deinterlacing issue. I understand what the two are, but not what to do about it, if anything. I notice there is a button to check "deinterlace" in iMovie, and wonder why it's there and if it works and if I should be using it.
What would my specific advantages be, if any, to learning FCE? If a huge difference could be made, I would take the time to learn FCE, and I could lay out another couple hundred bucks for other software, if you had some to recommend that would greatly surpass what I'm doing, in place of iDVD or another intermediary I should be using.
I've been exporting with QT, using the following settings:
    Video:
    Compression: H.264
    Quality: High
    Key frame:24
    Frame reordering: yes
    Encoding: multi-pass
    Dimensions: 960x540
    Sound:
    Format: Integer (Little Endian)
    Sample: 44.1 kHz
    Sample: 16-bit
    Channels: Stereo
Then create menus in iDVD and burn to DVD.
Could you please give me feedback on my process, and try to answer my questions and clear up my confusion? I'd appreciate it so much!
    Karen

Does FCE do this with multiple cameras? I'd want to make sure that FCS does it, before I buy it and am stuck with it, especially if FCE will do it and I already have it.
    Yes and No
No - Multicamera is a function in FC Pro
Yes - but You do it in a very "Paper-clip" way. Put each Camera on one track ontop of each other
    Camera 1 - v-tr 1
    Camera 2 - v-tr 2
    Camera 3 - v-tr 3
Then schrink the view of each track to 25% with Vireframe and put them into one corner
    each (Not the same one)
Move them so that the sync. frame eg a photo flash is on the same time for all three video-tracks.
Now when playing one see the three views in paralell.
THIS demands that all Cameras has a common Sync-point (I use a photo-flash)
AND that no Camera was turned off during uptake.
IT is also important to know if any of the Cameras are sencitive to movements.
    My small one is.
So I put mine on tripods !
This recording behaviour is the same if using FinalCut Pro ! Cont. recording and one sync. frame.
Then when playing in FinalCut Express - one use the transparicy tool to make the
Camera visibly that has the best picture.
When done the full movie (by adjusting transparicy - one re-size the Video tracks to 100% and let them fill view.
Now when playback - You see the edited result.
In FC Pro - You set Your Cameras as Multi Camera and set the sync frame. Now it will
in Viewer play (in 25% size) and You just point at the best view trough the movie
and it will assemble in TimeLine. You need not to be especially on target - easily adjusted
with roll-tool (I think) in after hand.
1 hour editing two Cameras takes for me (ME)
    • FinalCut Express - about 10 hours
    • FinalCut Pro - 2 hours to Capture - 1h15min to edit.
There is a program - CaptureMagic SD (HD) - that let's You copy directly to Your Mac
hard disk - NEED is one FW-port per Camera
(Port is something else than the connectors, My PowerBook G4 has one FW400 and one FW800 connector
    BUT ONLY one FW-port - So I need to use a CMA-CIA-card with one FW-connector to get a second FW-port )
This set-up works and I get the material Captured in real-time. Resulting in editing time 1h 15min per hour movie.

There were no results for Help using best converion codec for .mts 17Mbps video. I want to use h264.mov, but i get much better quality on my tv using mpeg-2. Am i doing something wrong during the conversion to h264? this is driving me nuts. Here are my current settings. I really hope they work.. I'll post results later.

  • Understanding Codecs

This is a common issue for me. My girlfriend asked if I could compress some videos into an email for her. I successfully demuxed a clip using MPEG streamline so I could get it into FCP. My intention then was to reduce the clip down in size and export it in a format that would sit nicely in an average sized email. This is where I hit a brick wall.
The reason is that I just don't understand the software or the jargon and attempts to find answers using the help menus are hopeless. I'll be starting work on a website soon and I know that without a fundamental understanding of codecs I'm going to be in the same sorry position.
I would have thought that somewhere there would be a list of the top ten requirements of the average person including those two - How do I compress a video for enclosure in an email that can be viewed by Mac and pc alike and how do I process a clip for streaming online? My foray into Compressor led to a prompt - Unable to connect to background process. Well I wasn't surprised, after all I can barely understand most of the options in any of the pull down menus.
So where can I find a simple breakdown of what formats and codecs mean, which codecs apply to which purpose. I get confronted with lists of picture and audio formats none of which say what media purpose they are for. I've tried the help menus on both Compressor and MPEG Streamline and the latter might as well be written in Chinese. There must be a resource that explains all this to the amateur user and doesn't require a one year course in media studies and IT.

    Here are some simplified answers.
Container - often confused with format. AVI and QuickTime are containers but they are also files stored on a disk. They are often called and confused with being a file format. File format is really not the proper term for them, because the content is determined by the codec selected to create the video and audio that they hold.
AVI and QuickTime are containers. If you have the proper applications you can select among various codecs to encode your video and create an AVI or QuickTime file. AVI is primarily a Windows platform container; QuickTime MOV is more or less universal. Flash is a special case because it historically had its own proprietary codec and hence could have been thought of as a format; however the latest versions also support the MPEG4 and H.264 codecs so it may be proper to start calling Flash a container. Flash video has gained popularity because YouTube, GoogleVideo and other popular web providers use it.
Popular codecs for video on websites and email include MPEG4 (actually, MPEG4-Part2), H.264 and WMV. WMV is primarily a Windows platform codec. MPEG-4 is quite popular but H.264 has received a lot of attention in the past couple of years because it produces better quality video with smaller file sizes than the other codecs generally do.
Regardless of codec, there are other variables that affect the file size of your video, among them the on screen size (eg 640x480 vs 320x240, etc), frame rate, bit rate, compression quality, etc. Optimizing them is more art than science.
When you export from Final Cut, using QuickTime Compression for example, there are a myriad of settings you can tweak. Play around with some of the QuickTime Compression options, using H.264, and see what file size you get as a result. One note, however, viewers will need to have the free QuickTime 7 player to view H.264 videos.
I'd also recommend reading some of the articles on Ken Stone's website about producing video for websites, iPod, etc. It will give you some ideas of settings to use. For example, he's got a brand new article called Compressor H.264 movies from FCP for the Web ... should be interesting reading !

  • I need help understanding how the Apple components integrate to create a system across all my devices?

I need help understanding how the Apple components connect to create a whole system across all my devices?
Is there a resource that describes current system and associated functionality?
    For example:
    Buy A, B, C to achieve "X"
    You will need:
an internet provider which supports <specs>
    add D to achieve "Y"
    You will need:
an internet provider which supports <specs>
    add "E" to achieve "Z"
    You will need:
an internet provider which supports <specs>
For example, I am looking at the Gen 6 Airport extreme.  For intended performance do I need broadband? if so what are the specs, or will basic internet service suffice?  Do I need the internet provider's modem or does the Airport extreme replace that?  And then I think, if I am doing this, I should also look at Apple TV....What do I need and Why?  Then I look at the New Desk top coming out in the fall, and I think well, if I wait and get this, what does this component do for the system, and what becomes redundant? What does this awesome desktop do for my ability to sit and use a new macbook air when I travel  or sit on the couch in my PJs?
If there was a place that plainly stated "if you buy the new dektop you can configure a system including only these components and achieve <this result> and by adding <additional components> you will achieve this result.
I have been to the genius store a few times, but I come out of there more confused unless I have SPECIFIC questions or already know what to buy.
A "System Configuration App" would be a really great sales tool--Just saying.

I have no idea what "fully optimized" means.
No Apple device will let you watch broadcast TV. The Apple TV is a good option for watching streaming TV from iTunes, NetFlix and Hulu. If you want to watch from other sources, you may need to look at other devices.
Any Mac computer or iPad will allow you to surf the web.
    What business software?
Time Capsule is a good option for back ups.
    Update what across all devices?
For accessing documents from all devices, a service like Dropbox is your best bet.
I have no idea what "step as far away from an internet provider as possible" means. If you want Internet access, you need an Internet provider.
Lighting fast speed for what? Processor? The specs are listed for all devices in the Online Store. Internet? We're back to the service provider.
Technology changes. The only way to keep pace with it beyond a couple of years is to buy new stuff.
The bottom line is you need to look at the specs for devices availble and at your budget and decide what best meets your needs. If you are unable to do that on your own, there are lot of technology consultants out there who will, for a fee, look at your exact situation, make recommendations and even handle the purchase and set up. Perhaps that would be the best route for you.
    Best of luck.

Lost newly purchased Iphone5, Reported complain in police station but not getting proper responce. Can apple help me out for this?

Oh, don't worry. I know exactly. I'm a retired law enforcement officer after 30 years. I didn't mean for them to allow you to use the Internet, I meant for them to assign an officer to try and track the device for the victim. Again, that would require the victim to provide their Apple ID and password, which most would not want to provide.
Pinging the phone as you mention is only when there is probable cause and that is done through the carrier.
I'm glad to see someone also understand that a stolen cell phone is not as important to law enforcement as it is to the victim. It is unfortunate as smartphones get more expensive. Hopefully as iOS 7 makes it debut later this year, the work Apple has done will have some impact on smartphone theft. Other manufactures and carriers are starting to improve here in the states. It never was something carriers worryed about with blacklisting. This is where they were a step ahead in Europe.

  • Hi all ,anyone knows some usefual Codecs for H.264 live video/audio

I'm headache about the JMF codecs ,they are too few ,and seems inefficiency, anyone knows pure java codecs for H.264 or MPEG4 ?And I think it's better a open source one ,do my thanks , guys!

    Here are some basics....
FMLE creates RTMP protocol streams that PCs and Macs watch with Flash players.   iOS devices don't understand RTMP (Flash), only HLS delivery of 10 second chuncks of downloaded video playback.  Both systems understand H.264 video, but iOS wants to see AAC audio not MP3.
You didn't state how you are live streaming, meaning what bandwidth delivery service you are using.  Live streaming only via RTMP won't get you to successful iPad and iPhone HTTP Live Stream.  On-demand delivery to iOS devices normally requires .mp4 video files to be hosted, which Macs and PCs also understand via RTMP delivery.   But unless your delivery service can convert .f4v or .flv files to .mp4 on the fly there is no easy way to to get to iOS via the direct file output of FMLE as of today.   Sometimes we upload live encoded project files to our www.Wistia.com account for PC, Mac and iOS delivery.  This is a YouTube / Vimeo paid type hosting service for on-demand only.
Some commercial CDNs (Content Delivery Networks) today allow an inbound live RTMP into their system using FMLE.  Then they re-mux that RTMP stream into HLS delivery for iOS.  Some work well using the native MP3 audio codec (Internap), but most require FMLE to have the AAC audio codec installed from Main Concept for $200.  Or people use Wirecast from Telestream which is $500 per license to be able to run two instances on that one license.
In my 15 years of being a big commercial webcaster here in Silcion Valley, I have yet to find the perfect simple and easy and affordable RTMP to HLS live and on-demand delivery system.  We currently do it different ways with multiple providers depending on the job.  More offerings are coming out now and we try them all as they come down the pike.

  • Import finished with few errors...Help understanding it!

    Hi all,
Yesterday, I finished to do an import in oracle. I used the impdp command and got few errors after the import was done. Here are some bits from my log. It was very long but I shortened it with the most common errors. I would appreciate your help understanding what does each error mean, and whether there's a solution available.

El trabajo "SYS"."SYS_IMPORT_FULL_01" ha terminado con 2249 error(es) en 17:21:02

    Hello people,
I just run for the second time a full import, and it said it finished correctly.
The first time I run it, there was a message which said that the import had finished with 2249 errors (I checked my log and not all of them were errors but messages). I checked each single message and only had to solve a couple of things.
I first created a user in response to an ora-29393: user string does not exist or is not logged on.
The second thing I did was to run the utlrp.sql file in response to an ORA-39082. I did this according to this blog.
I know oracle is taking precedence each time I run an import. I don’t know if what I have done is okay or perhaps not all data was imported after all. This is the thread which I posted initially when errors came out.
    Any reply is a supply.
    Thanks loads

  • Mountain Lion Spotlight no longer indexes "codecs" for Apple Lossless files?

Hi, I was recently trying to find some Apple Lossless files stored on my hard drive, and I tried searching using Spotlight's "codec" option (by typing "lossless" into the search field in the Finder). However, nothing came up. Upon further investigation (by looking at the info windows for various Apple Lossless files), it appears as though Mountain Lion no longer indexes the "codec" for Apple Lossless files, and therefore doesn't let you search by it. (Although I haven't tried this recently on at least Lion or Snow Leopard systems, I can verify that on OS X Leopard, which I still have running on an old machine, both the description "Apple Lossless" next to the codec field in the Info window came up, and it would also let you search by it.)
I was just wondering if anyone else might have experienced this on their Mountain Lion systems? Thanks!

I regret to inform this still has not been solved, though deleting the externalrecords helps purge those remnants away.

  • FCP IMX codec for windows

    Hi guys,
is there any IMX codec for windows so i can easly export my grahics from my PC to FCP without rendering? CMIIW
    Many Thanks,

Happy to help out, but you need to identify what cam or sequence settings you use to create the HD sequence.
HD means so many things, including HDV and DVCProHD.
    What is it?
And what did you choose to export to that create a smaller movie file for use on the PC?
Because it seems you have converted the original footage to something else, otherwise the size would be the same.
You might try an export to h.264 that should work if your friend is using v.7 of QT on Windows.

  • Codec for .avi files

Hey; this may be an easy or confusing question, unfortunately I don't have alot of time on my hands lately, but i'm looking to view an .avi file and quicktime says i need a codec to view it; i click the link, and theres several codecs, some free, some not, any idea what codec i need to view .avi files, is it free, certain site? thnx, [email protected]

Microsoft, the inventor of the Audio Video Interleave format, no longer supports any of its uses.
They write proprietary codecs for all of their software including most video formats.
They've written their own version of codecs for the MPEG-4 format which also don't conform to the industry standards.
AVI is a "bucket". You can fill a bucket with water, dirt or strawberries. But it's still just a bucket.
Shame on Microsoft for even using the phrase AVI in any of its software.
Apple invented the .mov container and still supports its use. It is also just a bucket as is its .mp4 file extension.
At least .dv still means something that users can understand. And DivX is a bucket that wants to be a file extension. At least they know the difference.

  • Help understand how this works

Hows everyone doing, i need some help understand this. This is my first time using Lulu. From the reviews i'v read about it they tell me this is the #1 place to come to to get my books printed. Here the question,  i have all 3 of my books ready to be uploaded do i just sent that in, then they send me the prints ? or so they self them for me. Sorry if this seems like a dumb question, but its my first time using this particular site.

    Here's a quick overview:
You start the new book wizard. Click "Create," pick a book type and size (hardcover, paperback, etc.; 6x9, 8.5 x 11, etc.), and click "Make this book."
Hint: If you want the widest distribution for your book, pick a size / type that has a green checkmark next to it.
The wizard will guide you to name your book, apply an ISBN (or get a free one), upload your contents, and upload your cover or design a cover. It will guide you to set pricing and distribution, and many other options.
When you've done all that, your book will be available to order. You will see two prices: the one you pay, and the one other people pay. The one you pay is the printing cost per book. It may be anywhere from $2.50 to $20.00 or more, depending on options you pick -- probably coser to the low end.
On that first page, where it says "Create," there is a calculator that will figure roughly what your book will cost (printing costs), so you can plan your options around that calculator.
So you order as many books as you want, pick shipping, pay with a credit card, and in a few days, the books are on your doorstep.
    I hope that helps.

  • Installing codecs for mpeg-3 on Oracle Linux 6.4

    Hi,
I am trying to install the required codecs for mpeg-3 on my Oracle 6.4 Linux box, with no success. I found the discussion from August 2011 Re: How to install media codecs in OL6 U1 on how to do this and have followed the instructions, (I had to substitute the fedora rpm for a more up to date one as the original is no longer available at that url). However, after doing this I am still unable to install mpg321. Do these instructions just need updating or is there something more fundamental wrong with my system?
Best Regards and thanks in advance for any help
    Daniel

Are you trying to play back video or only audio. Anyway, perhaps your best option is VLC VideoLan. It is also available from Repo(rpm)forge.
So perhaps just try the following:
    yum install vlc
It will install quite a bunch of libraries, inluding ffmpeg and lame, etc. from the OL6 and RPMforge repository.
    # yum info vlc
