HELP... unhappy ipod

my ipod froze and when i restarted it, it showed the apple symbol and then the unhappy ipod and the ipod support website! i can't do what the web site directed me to do because my laptop for my ipod is in the repair shop. is there anything i can do now to get it working again?

Ipod dead? - unhappy ipod face with attention sign

hey i had my ipod plugged into my car and it froze.. upon taking it out it had the unhappy ipod sign with a triangle attention one saying i should come to support to fix it...anyway ive tried plugging it back into my computer but it wont show up in itunes ive help the center button and play and plugged it into my comp and it still doesnt show up but it does show charging and a low battery with the mac loading sign....any idead ppl??

There is a pretty comprehensive post written by another forum member which is about the sad iPod icon or the folder and ! icon. Be aware that it's quite involved and contains some info that will almost certainly void the warranty. If your iPod is still within the warranty period, you should use that option first.

Unhappy Ipod Face

My 2nd generation iPOd mini will not be recognized by the computer. I try to turn it on, Apple logo comes on, then unhappy Ipod face. When I try putting it into Disk Mode or resetting it, the only thing that happens is the Apple logo comes on and then the unhappy Ipod face appears. This is the second iPod I have been thru with this problem. It's out of warranty so it'll probably cost as much as getting a new one. I don't want a new iPod. I like the iPod mini cuz it's the perfect size for me. I don't want the nano or a full size one. Is this problem fixable and how much is it gonna cost?

Unhappy iPod Icon

I am trying to restore my iPod as stated but can't get the PC to recognise the iPod. When I plug it in to the PC it comes up with the unhappy iPod icon then changes to a discharged/almost icon and sits there for ages. I can't get the PC to recognise it's plugged in so therefore cannot restore the iPod as the support site tells me to do so.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

For some reason my ipod G4 just stopped working while it was playing. Now, when i press the center button or menu button on the click-wheel, i get the apple logo for a few seconds and then the unhappy icon face. It will not reset, and is not recognized by my computer when i plug it in. When charging, i get the same repeating pattern of logo and unhappy ipod. What can i do?

There are a LOT of threads going with this same problem. Mine started doing it just today, bang out of the blue, and it won't do anything. Do you get the little click-whine-click noises out of it too? I called the 800 number they give on other threads, and get very little help and apologies for not getting help. It will cost, whatever you do. Nobody has said this publicly in the ads, but I'm thinking that iPods wear out suddenly after about a year and you are stuck with a paperweight. I have to think seriously about whether I want to pay for a repair phone call that might not help, pay for a replacement that might not work any better than the original, buy a new iPod, or forget the whole darned thing.

I've got a 15 month old Colour iPod and after last connecting it to the computer, moving new songs from iTunes and disconnecting I've had the following problem:
iPod won't start
If reset then iPod goes to the unhappy iPod icon and says get support (tried this a few times)
There's a whirring sound that lasts about 0.5s and repeats while the above is happening
iPod isn't recognized by the computer (either on connection or on restart) (USB cable worked fine before)
Can't then actually do any of the other "R"s as they all depend at least on a recognized device by the computer
Unable to convert to hard-disk mode (same thing - unhappy iPod icon)
Hmmmm - I'm thinking that (a) things aren't looking too good, (b) it's a hardware thing, probably the drive and (c) it's only just out of warranty...
Anyone got anything I can try at home ??

I guess they don't put it in the manual because it's not recommended fix. Dropping any delicate electronic device is not a good idea. Who knows what other damage it may cause?

Your Touch is working correctly. Currently, without unsupported third party hacks, the Touch has NO disc mode. It will only show up in iTunes.

Right now, you don't. The SDK is scheduled to be released in Feburary. Then developers will be able to write programs that will be loadable.

You said you updated yur 1G iPod to 4.2.1. A 1G can only go to 3.1.3 and thus you must have jailbroken it to get to 4.2.1 and that can cause problems.

- Does the iPod connect to other networks?
- Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost

You could try restoring the iPod, but quite honestly it sounds like a bad hard drive and it needs service.

Place the iPod in Recovery mode and then restore.
