HELP: Unintentional audio keyframing

Hi,
I'm not sure how else to describe the problem aside from unintentional audio keyframing, but not that is visible in any individual audio tracks.
Here's what's happening.
I have a single video clip of someone entering a car.  when he's in the car and the door shuts, I have key framed 3 of the audio tracks to drop from +10 to -10 decibels to simulate the effect of the closed door.
the three audio tracks are car alarms going on outside.
everything was fine until some point last night I think I hit a combination of keys that have somehow linked these audio tracks and changed their levels, because shortly after the actor closes the car door and starts speaking, the car alarm volumes get louder.
no keyframes or level changes are visible in the individual tracks, and when I play them individually there is not a problem.
furthermore, I rebuilt the entire three audio track sequence from scratch and re-keyframed everything, and when I play it back the proble occurs.  if i turn off the vocal tracks and just play the alarms there is no problem, so it kind of comes and goes.
last thing, around the time that this happened there was a horizontal red line across the hash marks of the timeline - i have never seen this before.
did i somehow link a whole cluster of clips to an unintentional audio shift?  i've got a pretty good handle on this software but I am baffled.  (i even exported a movie of the subject sequence and the problem exists in the mov file too.)
Help please.
Turner

I've tried that - thanks.  Re-rendering made no difference.  I can see keyframes in other clips - with this situation there is absolutely no obvious reason why the volume level changes so dramatically.
I ended up rebuilding the whole audio sequence again from scratch on different tracks and it's OK now.  I did a work-around.

  • Audio keyframe problems in FCE

    Hi,
    I'm working with FCE 4.0.1
I'm just about ready to export a project from FCE 4 containing various forms of audio: music from external sources (.aif, .caf, .mp3) as well as audio recorded on camera.
In the edit the audio has been keyframed so that the volume adjusts during the sequence. When playing the edit from the timeline however, the keyframes seem to be ignored at random - sometimes the audio is played as meant, othertimes it is abruptly stopped - there seems to be no logic to it. This happens to all sorts of audio, to the .aif as well as .caf or the audio recorded to camera.
I made a test DVD and the audio keyframes were ignored on this too. Where am I going wrong? Does FCE have a limit on the amount of audio tracks it can read well? (In some parts I use up to 12 tracks)
Does anyone have any idea what the problem is and how I can fix the problem?
    Thanks!

The amount of audio tracks varies throughout the project, however to a maximum of 16.
In the user preferences I see: Real Time audio mixing 4 tracks, and audio playback quality low (faster). Would it make things better if I changed this to 16 tracks, and a high quality playback?
The sample rate of the aif files is 48khz, as is the audio rate for the sequence.
I have tried the mixdown function on a small part - and it seems to help! But I can't understand what exactly it is doing - can you explain this to me or advise me on where to find more info?
    Thanks Tom!

  • Speeding up the use of Pen Tool in connection with Audio Keyframes

I remember that one of the editing systems that I used to work on (either Premiere, Avid, or DPS) had this nifty little button that automatically generated three audio keyframes with the middle keyframe at -inf dB. It was great for getting rid of mic hits and wireless glitches that weren't during dialouge. Does FCP 4.5 have a similar feature/workaround or am I stuck taking the time to set all three Keyframes and then lowering the middle keyframe (or simply cutting out the segment)? I'm currently cutting with some fitness material and these girls keep hitting the mic with their hair.

Yeah, I've got such a loud music bed going that room tone would be completely inaudible and hence, in my opinion, unnecessary.
I think I may have come across it in Premiere... was it called "notch" or something?
Off Topic, but has Edius gotten any better over the years? I worked with version 1 and 1.5 and though it's realtime capablilities were nice, it felt like a beta edition of the software. It aslo seemed to be lacking in some very basic capabilities that were necessary for any sort of fine control.

  • Can't adjust audio keyframes for certain sequences?!

I have a Sequence that I used Pluraleyes on (syncs multiple cameras automatically) but to do this, you're reuired to export a FCP .xml, import it in Pluraleyes, run the sync, which it exports a new FCP .xml, which you have to import back into Premiere... but now I've lost the ability to adjust ANY Audio keyframes! The Keyframe switch on the left of the timeline just stay greyed ouy for all my video clips!
I've created new sequences and dropped the same video into those, and it works fine...
Does anyone know why, and how to fix it?
    Thanks all!
    Aza

Nevermind, figured it out... Pluraleyes was somehow splitting the stereo audio into two mono tracks upon import into premiere, and I guess this confused Premiere...
Not sure if this is a Premiere .xml import bug, or a Pluraleyes bug...

  • Record Audio keyframes in FCPX

One usefull tool in Final Cut Pro verisons before FCPX is the possibility to record audio keyframes (on the fly) when audio mixing.
I am learning FCPX and I didn't figured out how to do this in FCPX.
    any idea?
    thx

  • Can you move audio keyframes?

    Hello,
I've got a question here. I've got a nice little cut on my TL. Video on V1, sync-sound on A1, and stereo-tracks with music on A2+3. In a certain area on the stereo tracks, I used audio keyframes to lower the volume so that you can understand the speaker on A1. Now the client wants a different section of the music to underneath the video. Which is easy enough, simply slip the audio tracks A2+3. However, now the audio keyframes have moved, too.
Now, of course I could simply create new audio keyframes where I need them and delete the old ones. But is there an easier way, can I select a group of audio keyframes and slide them? The way you can with filter keyframes when you toggle on the clip keyframes in the TL?
Hope I'm being clear here, if not let me know and I'll have another cuppa and get back to you!
    Cheers,
    Colin

you're right, the video filter keyframe method won't work for moving audio keyframes
only way I can think of is to copy and paste the "Levels" attribute ...
use the razor blade tool to put a cut at the first existing keyframe and then another cut at the point where you want to transfer them. then "copy" the clip with the existing keyframes and paste attributes to the clip where you wnat them to go .... be sure to select only Audio Attributes > Levels and also be sure to turn off "Scale Attribute Times"
you'll still have to go back and clear the original keyframes f, but you'd have to do that anyway.

  • Weird new bug in CC2014?  Audio in sync, but audio keyframes too early???

    Hi everyone,
I'm wondering if anyone else has encountered this problem with PP CC2014.  I just edited a wedding video clip with music and vows.  The music and voices match the picture perfectly upon export, but the audio keyframes are out of sync by 9-12 frames ahead of when they should kick in.  In Premiere, my music keyframes are in the right place to lower the music when someone says something, but upon export, the music fades down and goes back up half a second too soon.
I've never encountered this problem before.  I edited 30fps FullHD AVCHD footage from my Panasonic GH4, and 30fps FullHD XDCAM 35bps footage from my Sony EX1, in a 30fps FullHD Sony XDCAM sequence, and used 2 MP3s.  Oddly enough, the audio keyframes over the first song from 0-4:24 are fine.  The problem only appears over the second song, Eternal Flame by Brand X Music, from 4:25-6:51.  I'm exporting in H.264, 10-20kbps 2-pass VBR.  The problem is present whether I do a direct export from Premiere, or use AME.  I also tested exporting in Quicktime, which doesn't solve the problem.  Ditto for MPEG2 DVD.
Any ideas?  It seems the only solution for now is for me to move my audio keyframes 10 frames ahead of where they should be in my timeline, which results in nonsense on my Timeline, but correct sync in my exports.

Been up the whole night with the same issue. Never had this with previous versions and clearly noticeably on my edits as I tend to cut on the beats. Counted a 12 frame shift from cut to beat. Oddly the AE comps for my opening and closing titles with their audio embedded in the comps stayed in sync. Couldn't say for the video footage, because I unlinked the audio and deleted it, since I wasn't using it. The problem seems to only be with the soundtrack.
After shifting the audio back and forth and multiple renders I opted to try CBR which you'll be pleased to know killed the bug and I now have perfectly synced renders.

  • CS5.5 & various audio & keyframe & modifier issues

    Hey all,
Can anyone confirm these problems?  Some of this stuff went from working perfect in CS5 and seeming to be way bugged in CS5.5, for me.
    - first, moving keyframes around with the CTRL modifier is bugged.. instead of moving around slower than normal, it bugs out and moves around randomly and can only be increased.  If I try to move a keyframe down with CTRL pressed, it the keyframe moves up instead.
    - something serious is wrong with submixes.  At times it forgets what I did and appears to undo itself without me noticing. When I was working a couple nights ago, I had to redo the same spot of audio keyframing a certain part of a submix like 5 times.  I'd fix it, playback okay good.  Move on and keep working, and later when I go to playback, that part was screwed up again and I'd have to build it again.  |  Next, it likes to just make a bunch of keyframes on it's own at times, adding a bunch of points at random levels and times.  I could often just undo them, but it's still doing something crazy and all by itself.  |  Last, complicating both of these issues, the redraw isn't refreshing properly.. a lot of the time when I noticed the two above issues by playing back, everything looked fine in the timeline, and then zooming or scrubbing over the area, the submix track draws itself and updates what's really there.
    - this one's carried over from CS5--certain audio filters, like Denoise, seem to randomly bug out if a project gets too complicated.  Sometimes during playback, sometimes even during export--and random, not repeatable or predictable--what happens is the volume suddenly goes really low on the track with the filter almost dissappearing.  Simply stopping and playing it again (or exporting it again) works, however quite annoying & killer when an export is screwed up due to the bug.
    - Similarly, sometimes whole tracks or clips dissappear when playing back.  I've never noticed the problem on export, but on a fairly simple commercial project I'm doing, often on playback the music dissappears or doesn't playback at all.  I have the music split into several parts, because I did some fades to adjust how long it is.  When it hits the next 'clip' of the song, it comes plays that back fine.  Again, stopping, resetting the time indicator, and playing back again almost always solves the issue.. kinda of to get it to "catch"/have the magic touch when you playback.. no specific action or behaviour is causing the problem.
Thanks.. let me know if anyone has some suggestions or ideas, will submit to bug report as needed.  I can say the last 2 have been issues for a long time and I've seen them over multiple systems and installations; however I can't say the same for first two, which are CS5.5 introduced.

  • Is it possible to create a keyboard shortcut for Add Audio Keyframe?

I would like to assign a keyboard shortcut to be able to create an audio keyframe at the playhead. There doesn't seem to be an option in the Keyboard shortcuts menu.\
This feature allows the editor to keyframe audio and mix without having to use the mouse. Also, this feature was available in FCP 7.

Still dont know how one would set parameters but...
I would suggest a "better" way to set some audio keyframes is to do a live realtime mix from the audio mixer in Write Mode.
Then adjust KFs or overwrite them using mouse or MIxer facilties.
I have never quite understood how one can mix using KFs on a static audio track!
Its an ear/listening thing..IMHO  ( well thats how the pros do it anyway)

  • Help with Audio for Premiere Project

Working on a lengthy project and need some help with audio which is not my specialty!
I am recording using a Sony EX1r and a wireless lav mic,     OK.  Here is what is happening.
When I import the clip into project I get Audio from the left speaker.   If I burn a DVD and playback on home player with surround sound, I get audio out of just the left speaker which makes sense.    SO I go to Premier and use "Fill Left" which fixes the audio on my computer and get sound from left and right speakers.    The odd thing is that when I play this version back from DVD on the surround sound system, the audio now only comes from the CENTER speaker.  I dont get anything out of left OR the right speaker so it sounds hollow.
I am sure I am missing something obvious so please be kind.
Is there an easy way to get my audio to come out of Left, Center, and Right speakers (and rear for that matter) ???
    Thank you
    Ted

    Bill,
The DVD player is a Sony BluRay and the receiver is an Onkyo AV receiver HT-R380.
My thinking is that it is something that I am doing wrong inside Premiere vs something that the DVD player or receiver is doing.    My final product will need to play on a variety of DVD players so I need to get it right.
It just seems odd that my default output DVD provides sound to the left speaker but then removes it when I fill Left.
Am I setting up my audio tracks wrong?  Or should I being doing something with a 5.1 track???
    Thanks
    Ted

  • Moving multiple audio keyframes

ok.. This is strange... This should be a no brainer.
I have a range of audio keyframes, due to t a change in the edit, I now need to move a range of keyframes earlier in time.
now it looks like I can select the range... however, I can't seem to do anything with it.
    I can't.. ahem.. 'EDIT' them....
    any ideas ?
The attached images show the position after I manually move them one by frakkin one...

AFAIK, there is no way to do what you want (which is perfectly reasonable, BTW). At least it's not in the FCPX documentation or something I've been able to discover by using every combination of modifier keys I could think of. One at a time seems to be the current limitation.
If anyone knows something different, hopefully they'll chime in.

  • Audio keyframes moving with keyboard shortcuts?

    hi guys,
i want to move 4 Audio Keyframes together with the keyboard! any ideas?
    Find nothing here..

The only method I know of to move a keyframe is with the mouse.

  • No audio keyframes after export

    Hi guys,
First of all, I'm kinda new to AE, this is my first project and also my first forum post so... Please go easy on me.
Now, I have this audio layer that I want to add as a soundtrack to the intro video I made. The audio is a bit longer than the intro so I added 2 keyframes at the end of the audio to act as a fade out (I decreased the audio levels from +0.00 dB to -19.00 dB).
The problem is when I export the project, I don't hear this faiding out. Is like AE doesn't "reads" the 2 audio keyframes. (When I hit play inside the project, with RAM preview, I can hear the fading out, but not when exporting). I have to mention I export the project as .FLV, as .AVI exports much bigger files.
I don't know if this makes any sense for you guys, but it is what it is.
I attached a screenshot so you can see the keyframes I'm talking about.
    Thank you!

Convert the MP3 to a WAV file in an external tool and replace the layer accordingly. Also, depending on teh format, proper audio fades may require -36 dB or -48dB for perfect silence.

  • Audio keyframe wierdness

When I finish this half-hour series I'm doing, I copy and paste the whole program to another sequence, get rid of the commercial black holes, add chapter markers, and make the show a DVD. The last few times I've done this, I've noticed that several of the audio tracks copy over with missing keyframes; often the audio level is completely flat. Can't figure out why this happening. Help?

How are you implementing your level adjustments?
You're not, by any chance, using the Audio Mixer
(Opt-6) to make your level adjustments are you?
Depending how you use it, those adjustments can be
universal adjustments that would affect all audio in
    your sequence.
You should be making the level adjustments thru the
viewer or the timeline to affect only the particular
    clip you are adjusting.
    Thanks for replying...
Good question cos I use the keyboard a lot and you should see the way I type!
I use a variety of ways of adjusting level:
Overall I use cuts and mixes rather than rubber bands to set the levels in my sequence. I sometimes use the mixer to make adjustment on the fly, but only whole clip adjustments - I never have it record key frames.
In this case I selected the segment I wanted to adjust and use <Ctrl>+] to add 3dB to the level.
I tried it either way, with the mixer and with the keyboard shortcut, but to no avail. As a work around I've cut in the same clips from an earlier sequence where the problem didn't seem to arise.
    Whaddya reckon?
Off topic...is there a place in the forum to make recommendation to Apple for new functionality, or do I just post a new thread?
    Thanks
    J

  • Motion 5 audio keyframe not rendering

    Hi All,
I have a project in which I'm using keyframes to control audio level.  The first two keyframes work ( level goes from normal to -18 ).  The keyfrmames near the end do not work ( level goes back up to normal for a few seconds, then down to -96 for a fadeout effect ).
It sounds fine in Motion, but when I export to Movie it does not render.
    I've already trashed the prefs.
    Any help appreciated - Vijay

Audio in Motion has always been a bit iffy - I would do your audio editing elsewhere, like STP or FCP. Then bring it into Motion. Or try exporting audio only, if that works, bring in the movie and replace the audio.
