Good afternoon. At me here such problem. One and a half years ago
To me have brought from England and have presented iphone 3gs with contract O2. How to me to make оффициальную an unblocking iphone that I could use sim cards of local communications service providers? I live in Russia, the city of Moscow. To go to England and to make there an unblocking at operator О2 I have no possibility. To do джейлбрейк and to put unlock I don't want!!! Help please.

P.s. Still a problem with a sound. Silently sounds динамик at calls and music listening.

No problems with your English - my Russian would be much worse.
If you have paid your full contract period with O2 in the UK, then they may be willing to unlock it for you. They can charge £15 I believe but its free if you are still inside your contract term.
There is no other legal way for the phone to be unlocked - Apple will not do it for you.
If you still have your contract details, then you can go to the O2 website and chat with an operator there.
If you do not have the details then you are probably stuck as you are.

A: There is no such thing as an unlocked iPhone 3Gs in the United States. ALL iPhone 3Gs's sold in the US are locked to AT&T. AT&T will NOT unlock iPhones, therefore it is not legitimately unlocked.
B: Sprint is a CDMA network as others have mentioned. They do NOT use SIM cards. The iPhone 3Gs will NEVER work on Sprint. Ever. It's not physically possible.
Either your Uncle misunderstood or he was mislead. Send it back and tell him to get his money back. Buy an iPhone in India from a supported carrier.

I have been in touch with iTunes and I was informed that iPhone 3gs which I bought from EBay over 3-4 years ago is looked on 02 UK, I got in touch with 02UK and my son bought me a credit £20 so 02 UK can unlock my iPhone 3gs remotely and afterward I was informed I should have made a phone call from UK and I made it clear I live in Ireland? Guess what happened? Nothing happened I wasted phone calls to 02 UK and £20 credit, what you call that just ripe off

Contact Apple, explain the situation to them and they should be able to rectify it for you.
I'd recommend calling or using the Express Lane support online... the store will probably not be able to assist in this matter.

How to unlock iphone 3gs from vodaphone network

I have an Iphone 3gs that is locked to vodaphone currently. When I asked for it to be unlocked from vodaphone they said it was not eligible. The phone was on ready to go service and I was with them long enough to then move network if I wanted to do so. Any ideas how to get the phone unlocked. I have given the phone to my son but he can't use it.

Sorry yeah it is from Ireland. I have sent Vodaphone a request form online with the IMEI number which they say will take 7-11 days to return. From my previous attempts I don't hold out much hope.

It was not legitimately unlocked by the carrier it was originally locked to. ONLY the carrier it is locked to can authorize unlocking it.
In order to allow it to be used on a different carrier, the phone was hacked or jailbroken. An unauthorized modification was made to the phone. That modification has damaged the phone. You can not get support for it here or from Apple.

I don't follow your instructions... mine goes Settings->General->Cellular and from there it's just on/off options for Cellular Data, Enable 3G, Data Roaming, etc. Or I could go Settings->General->Profile APN Carrier Settings but when I click that it just shows as verified but no Visual Voice APN or MMS Settings. If I click More Details it goes to Signing Certificate which has a bunch of parameters for unlockit.co.nz but I am unable to change anything.
I just updated my iphone 3GS to IOS 6 and my internet (wifi and 3G), voice and text all work, but the only thing I can't do is send/receive pictures via text message. I am using At&t prepaid sim. Insert a SIM from a supported carrier.
Where did the phone come from, it sounds like the device has been hacked or jailbroken to be unlocked and updating has re locked to the original carrier. It is also possible that the SIM simply needs to be reseated or replaced.

Is the SIM from the carrier the device is locked to?
Has the device ever been hacked or jailbroken?
Have you tried simply removing and re-installing the SIM? What about replacing the SIM?

Are you sure your friend didn't jailbreak it?
If so, save yourself a lot of time and trouble - throw it in the trash.

Home screen lock is different than carrier lock.
If the device is locked to a specific carrier for cell service you cannot use a sim from another provider without having the device unlocked. Only the carrier to which the device is locked will be able to unlock the device for service on another provider.

Update it from iTunes on a computer as described at the bottom of this article; devices running an iOS version prior to 5.0 can't be updated straight from the device. It will be updated to the newest iOS release supported by the device’s hardware, which is iOS 6.1.6 for an iPhone 3GS.
