Help! Unwanted patterns appearing in the background of edited photos!

Hopefully someone can shed some light on this- I'm continuing to have issues when I open a photo to edit in Elements. I will apply a filter or a distortion or even sharpen the image and then there are suddenly gray and white patterns that appear in the background of my photo. They're not pixels- it looks as though the background of the photo is showing through and it saves as a JPEG that way as well (background showing through). I've included a screenshot of a photo I was editing where it occurred.
I've tried contacting support for this- the first time they claimed it was fixed (it wasn't) and the second time they hung up on me so I'm getting desperate to find someone with an answer here. Any help would be much appreciated- thanks!

Update your graphics driver and flush the disk cache. This is an artifact that relates to that - eitehr the buffer reappears when you set it back to the old resolution or an invalid cache is pulled in. It only disappears when you change the resolution because naturally there is no previously stored data...

  • I recently upgraded to 0S 10.6.8 on mab pro and now have pink lines around the desktop borders. A horrible red colour appears in the background of the screen saver, and in parts of Safari and other applications including MS Office. please help

I recently upgraded my Macbook Pro to SL OS 10.6.8 and now have pink lines around the desktop borders and some menus. There is also a horrible red colour that appears in the background of photobooth and parts of Safari. The screen saver looks like an alien life form with red in the background. There are odd translucent colours in the background of other applications including MS Office. It looks like a horrible psychedilic trip from the 60's. I ran the upgrade again but nothing changed. Can you help?

Backup your files off the computer (not TimeMachine) and disconnect.
Hold c boot off the 10.6 disk, under the Utilities menu > Disk Utiltiy > Repair Disk, and Repair Permissions
(quit and stop if Disk Repair (only) issues a failure and notify us)
Quit and install 10.6 again, reboot and Software Update again,  this time download it and then run it. Check Software Update until clear.
c boot off the 10.6 disk and use Disk Utility >Repair Disk again (fixes a bug)
Reboot and check any installed programs, some may not function who have installed kext files into OS X, those need to be reinstalled.
You didn't mention if you upgraded from 10.5 or 10.6.7, the above steps are for fixing a 10.6 to 10.6.8
If you upgraded from 10.5, you should erase the drive in Disk Utility first, then install 10.6 fresh, but then all your programs will have to be reinstalled or updated from original sources.
Also the 10.6.3 upgrade disk has no free iLife, but you can install 10.5 fresh then upgrade to 10.6.3, then to 10.6.8 and then all new programs and that will give free iLife that came on the factory 10.5 disks.
You also can use Pacifist to extract iLife from 10.5 disks.

  • How do I make title appear in the background?

My videos are similar to Apple's white background and text videos. I'm trying to make the text appear in the background. There two parts of the video where my hand is covered by the text on screen. Please help. Thanks!

If it is truly white, you can try this.
Put a pure white matte on track one.
Put your title on track two.
Put your video on track three and apply a luma key to get rid of the white background. You will need to restrict it to just the tightest settings to only get rid of pure white (RGB 255,255,255)
That should put you over the title.
But it will only work if your clothing has no pure white and your background is pure white. If it isn't, you might have to play with the levels to get it white, then create a matte from the result in order to key out the white.

Thanks for the swift reply, I have been looking online and a loose plug seems to be somewhat of an issue with many, I hope mine is actually a problem and not what others are experiencing. It's taken me this long to even reach out for the simple fact I HATE being a complainer but this is just horrible.
Do you have an iPad 3 as well? And is yours not experiencing any issues close to mine?
    Thanks again!

  • Help, ghost image appearing in composition background

    Hello
I have an issue of a ghost image appearing in the composition background. I can't figure out how it got there or how to remove it. It's really annoyong as the image also appears in rendered videos.
This only seems to appear when my composition settings is set at 1024 x 576 px, which I must use for projects. If I increase the composition size by 1 pixel, the image disappears, change it back and it reappears.
Please note, that there is no files in my project and the image still appears.
Thanks in advance for any help.

  • I need help erasing the background of a photo.

Sometimes I do it just fine and other times I can't get it to magic erase the background to save my neck.
I've spent 4 hours trying to get this done today......earlier I did it to a photo in 5 minutes.
    HELP

There's another approach to getting a transparent background -- using the selection brushes, but for a subject with areas of wispy hair you'll definitely need to do some handwork.
Use the Quick Selection brush on the woman, alternating between the "add" and "subtract" modes to get a close approximation.
Switch to the Selection Brush tool to refine the selection.
Use Select...Feather with a setting of 1.7 pixels to soften the edges.
Layer...New...Layer via Copy to copy the woman to a new layer with transparency.
Now the most tedious part -- refining the wisps of hair.  Fortunately, there's only a small area that needs the work:
Zoom in real tight and remove most of the dark areas by clicking on them with the Magic Eraser tool set to Tolerance:  32, Anti-Alias, and Contiguous.
Use the Background Eraser with a Tolerance of 14% to further remove dark areas internally and at the outer edges.
Use the Eyedropper to select a light gray hair colour and the Color Replacement Tool to paint over the wisps of hair to remove most of the green colour cast.
Use the Clone tool at a 4pixel size to draw over some areas of the wisps of hair to further remove the green cast.
Use the Smudge tool at about a 7px size to smooth out the tone in the individual wisps.
Now comes the fun part of building the final image:
Add two Color Fill layers beneath the extracted image.
Change the colour of the upper Color Fill layer to a dark, somewhat gray blue.
Change the colour of the lower Color Fill layer to a light, somewhat gray green.
Draw a black-to-white radial gradient on the mask of the upper blue Color Fill layer, starting at the lower left and running to the upper right.
Add a new empty layer immediately below the extracted image.
On that empty layer, use Filter...Render...Clouds.
On that clouds layer, use Filter...Blur...Surface Blur with a Radius:  25px and a Threshold:  25px.
Set the Blend Mode of that clouds layer to "Multiply" and the Opacity to 62%.
Refine and balance the overall effect by using the Eraser tool with a hard edge on the extracted image layer to clean up some of the edges, and use the Blur tool to get rid of any obvious hard edges.
The layers wind up looking like this:
And the final image looks like this:
That clouds layer gives a nice, blurred "semi-natural" looking outdoors effect to the background -- since the lighting on her face is obviously natural sunlight, the background should also seem to be an outdoors background.

  • How do you make the background of your photo transparent?

I have just cropped my pic using elements 12 and saved it as a png but it still has white corners around my circular pic. How do I get rid of the white corners?
    Thanks

Rename the Background layer to anything else; this converts it to a "regular" layer. Select the white corners using the Magic Wand and Delete the selection. The white will be replaced by transparency.
Initially, before you do the crop you can convert the Background layer. Then after cropping, with the circular selection still active, invert the circular selection and Delete.

  • I have one pic in iPhoto that won't appear in the iMovie lower right photos

Sometimes, a new iPhoto will simply appear for iMovie use. Sometimes I have to quit and restart iMovie for this to happen. But on this certain iPhoto, it just won't appear for iMovie, even tho I made a special album for it. That's blank, too. How can I beat this?
    Thank you.

OK, I finally tried making it a TIFF in Preview, and it appeared in the iMovie photos, and it's in the movie.
But does anyone know why some pics are "reluctant" to go to the iMovie photo browser?
And why iPhoto rejects a .jpg?
    Thank you.

  • Deleting the grey in the background of a photo photoshop CC 2014

    hey all
how can I delete the grey in the background
the grey on her face for example if you see what i mean
to say it differently how can i leave only the shape lines
i ve tried playing with the curve (CTRL+M) but i couldn't
if it is the only way to do so then i guess i should mess with it until i get the result I wanted XD
and thank you in advance for your answers

The dialog style has changed to the new standards.  Adobe no longer provides the thumbnail support, but there are good alternatives available for not much money...  For example, if you add the FastPictureViewer Codec Pack to Windows it will give you thumbnails and preview support in all OS dialogs (not just Photoshop):
Here's what I see, for example, in a Photoshop File-Open dialog:

  • Does iPhotos reduce automatically the size of edited photos?

I have a Nikon D80 and the photos I upload on Mac are at least 3MB and for some reason some of them are 40KB or even 25KB after editing. I can't recover the originals so I'm stuck with small pictures, bad resolution. How can I avoid this in the future?
    Please advise.
    Thanks.

the photos I upload on Mac are at least 3MB and for some reason some of them are 40KB or even 25KB after editing
No - iPhoto does not make major size reductions
If you crop severally you could do this but it sounds to me like you are simply looking at the wrong thing - what makes you think these photos are now very small?
If you are doing directly into your iPhoto library you are looking in the data folder rather than the modified folder - AND you are risking corrupting your library - it is recommended that you not muck around in the iPhoto library. To see what the size of a photo is look at the info pane in the lower left hand corner - if it is not there click the blue circle with an "i" in it to display it
click here for a discussion on properly accessing your iPhoto photos.

  • I am running Photoshop CC on a Windows 7 Toshiba PC and my text will not appear on the background when I type it.

I am running Photoshop CC on a Toshiba laptop running Windows 7.  When ever I try to type text on a background image, the words don't appear.  NOW...I had been using it for two or three weeks with no problems whatsoever...but then about 5 days ago, it just quit working.  What I type shows up on a the layer pallet on a tab in the lower left corner of the screen, but it just won't show up on the graphic.  HELP!!!  I'm about ready to cancel my monthly subscription to Photoshop!!  I tried to reset my text "T" in the upper right corner, but I think I made things worse.
Can I delete the program from my computer and REdownload it???  I've got things I've GOT to get done and I'm dead in the damn water and I can't seem to get any help.  I will tell you up front, I am NOT a computer genius, so any help will be GREATLY appreciated and if you could put it into step by step parts that would GREATLY help me.  I appreciate it.

Thanks for the screenshot. You do not have to get rid of CC 2014.
