HELP!! update mid-install problem, computer wont finish booting!!

Hello all,
my girlfriends computer was installing the latest os update when it said something to the tune of "update could not be completed." Now, when I try to boot it, it never goes past the screen with the grey background with the simple apple logo and the loader graphic. HOW DO I SOLVE THIS?? I cannot figure this out and she needs this fixed asap. thanks in advance!

Repairing permissions worked. This mac is my first intel and i have had soo many slashed circles come up. But basically I just inserted the install disc that came with the mac, powered off the mac. held down option, powered on. waited 10seconds then let go off option then the screen came up with the option to boot from hard drive or dvd. i clicked dvd. after a min or so you get to a screen where its says to install os x. i just went to the top of the menu bar and clicked on utilities and went into disk utility and then i clicked on the startup drive, the one with the personalname(the volume one down from the actual HD) and went repair permissions. that fixed a few things and then I went to quit and startup disc in the utilities menu and slected the internal hd in this case hard drive os 10.4.11 and clikcked restart and then restart again. It restarted, it took 2 or so minutes to load and then all is fine.

  • My computer wont finish downloading itunes it says that apple application support was not found. how do i fix this?

my computer wont finish downloading itunes it says that the apple application support was not found and it tells me to uninstal it and download itunes again n i did so n it keeps doing the same thing, even tho i have downloaded itunes before in this computer. please i need help with this!

With the Error 2, let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you?
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

    (2) When I test it locally on my Mac OSX hard drive, I am

  • Apple TV wont finish booting up..HElp!

Had my Apple TV for about 4 years, over time it became slow and more troublsome to get to complete booting up after it was shut down(after moving etc). As it begine to boot up the images are pixilated and not complete, the sound starts (the boot tune) then it just locks up and wont finish. I have unplugged it multiple times and tried all the commonds from the remote. It seems like a hard drive issue. Is there a secret to "hard boot" beyond the power supply interruption (unplugging)... Is there a place I can send it for service?

I suspect it's a case of hardware failure - either GPU or logic board, and it's probably not economical to repair it.
The pixellation is a bad sign.

  • My mac book pro does not boot up correctly anymore after doing some updates. I did have my ipod charging to my mac book. I ran the simple updates and never go to the maverick update and now my computer will not boot correctly. Help!

Please help my computer is not repsonding after doing some simple updates. I follow the instructions and which is simply click for the update to take place. I did what I was instructed to do. I did not do the new update for the Mavericks yet. I just did simple updates. The computer shutted down and restarted but would never get pass the grey screen with the spinning wheel and the booting bar that would not go past a certain point befor shutting off again. The computer is practically brand new. I purchased the computer from best by 2012 and the warrenty just ended the past October. I hardly use the computer maybe 4 times since I have had it because I have another main computer that I uses. However, I don't want to do a hard rest becuase I do have the entire adobe suits software that I paid for and don't want to loose. I have an appointment with apple today to see what they say but I hope that my computer that I hardly every use is not defected after doing a updated pushed by Apple. Any thoughts or suggestions???? Thanks in advance Apple Family :-)

Well, I was at Apple for sometime on that day. I got a Genius that did not want to work. She basically jumped to the money to tell me that my hard drive was no good and that I was out of warranty (October 2013). I began to explain to her that I had only used the computer 5 times and that I don't use this computer as my main computer because I also have a Toshiba that is less expensive that I have had for several years and not one issue out of it. The rep told me that I could by a new hard drive for $161.00 and that I would loose all of my software and photos that I have on this computer. However, I told her that it's bazaar that it happens right after my warranty goes out and had I used it more often when in warranty before October then I would have been covered. Keeping in mind that I would still be very disappointed with the product because I would loose all of my information and it would not make sense to me why the hard drive fails on a very gently used computer. So I asked for a manager and it took her some time to get one. In the mean time I watched how the other Geniuses interacted with the other customers and seen that they were very engaging with convo and very help. I guess I just I got another lemon when I got my rep. When the manager finally came. I went from A-Z with the issues and that I felt that something could or should be done because the rep said that she did tests on my machine and it read to her that my hard drive was bad and there was nothing that could be done. I explained that I was not looking forward to paying for services to have my new computer repaired. The manager offered to give me 25% off the cost but I still didn't feel that it was effective. After he left and the rep wrote the notes in the system, I told her that I didn't think that all options had been exhausted and that there was something else that could be done. I told her to erase the machine and see if the updates could be installed and if the system would continue to do the same thing. The rep was hesitant and said that I would loose everything which we already know that we were at conclusion from the beginning. She assured me that I would happen again and that I would need a new hard drive. I just told her to erase the machine and get me another manager because I was just getting tired of her unhelpfulness and negative perspective. The new manager came and was very pleasant and I explained everything once again from A-Z. I informed him that I had the machine erased and that I need his help with options because I don't feel that the rep or the last manager was resourceful or helpful. He apologies for the actions of the reps and proceed to tell me that they will run all the updates in the store and that if it booted correctly that I should continue to use the machine with out adding the adobe software back on just incase that it crashes again and I'm out of money once again. However, if it does happen again and it is a hard drive issues that he would work with me to resolve the issues. As my computer went through the process of rebooting from out of the box stage another rep approached me because he could tell that I was upset and not happy. I told he what had happen and he said I think I can help you a little more. He said that I just want to run further testing on you computer for different components to make sure that everything would work properly and pin point any issues. I was delighted with that option. Anything would help at this time especially someone who is willing to help. The first test that he ran was to for the hard drive and he said that since it failed the test the first time could be because the software update glitch and did update correctly which would make the test faulty and be negative. As I sit with finger crossed the test came back as a pass test that my hard drive was not the issue and that the update was the cause and that I did not have to buy a new hard drive. I was happy that the computer was ok but I lost information. All of the updates were done in the store and everything works fine now. If I was not persistent about my gut feeling then I would had left out thinking that I had to pay for a new hard drive that I really didn't needed. Now I can invest that money in a external hard drive to start backing up my information. Lesson learned by I'm still on the fence about things but I hope all is well. I really went through a lot. No help or no service was not an option that I was taken.  I hope that it helps.

  • HELP!!! Mountain Lion Install Error, computer won't boot!

Today I downloaded OS X Mountain Lion from the Mac App Store. Once it finished, I installed it. It rebooted and came up with the error "Install Failed, Macinstosh HD is damaged and cannot be repaired". Macintosh HD is (and has been) operating correctly, after running tests on it about 1 week ago. But, the worst part is that when I boot into the Recovery Partion of the HD, it will not let me reinstall Lion, it just comes up with the error "Error", no discription. Already called Apple, they could not fix it. Anyone else had this problem? Please help, thanks.

Same thing happened to mine today, now nothing works

  • Help withAperture 2 install problem

I downloaded the trial and it worked great. I kept it on my desktop along with a "new" library. I renamed my Ap 1.5.6 to avoid conflict. When finished testing, I trashed the trial version and the "new" library, and I replaced the Ap 1.5.6. Today I purchased Ap 2 at the Apple Store, installed it, and can't open it. I keep getting the "trial" window. Apparently 1.5.6 has been replaced by 2.0 but it doesn't like my serial number; it wants a "trial" serial number.
    What am I doing wrong???

When i purchased the full 2.0 after using the trial for a few days, i simply clicked the authorize button when the trial dialog came up and entered my 2.0 serial number. Not sure that helps, but make sure you click the authorize button and copy the serial from the 2.0 email (not the trial serial).

  • Wont Finish Booting - Please Help me Help my Best Friend!

My Powerbook G4 is 3 1/2 years old... His name is Rely, yes, short for Reliable, and if you can help me I won't ever swear at him again...
Computer started making funny noises when I was on the net... Don't ask me why, but I thought it was itunes' fault... anyway, the spinning lollipop came on and off and every now and again I was able to quickly retreive the Force Quit option... I tried to Force Quit out of itunes, but the lollipop kept taking over and the process went nowhere... I hate to do it, but I held down the power key to turn the computer off... I did 5 circles around the kitchen table and then came back to see if I could turn it back on.
I turned it back on and the Apple made that ding noise, I got the Apple icon, and then the wheel just spun and spun and spun... I turned it off again with the power button and tried to boot him up again... Same thing, ding came up, Apple showed up, timer spun around and around... I tried this maybe three times...
Note to reference.... Power supply was not out, it was in the middle of charging up... currently the computer is plugged in and the power light is orange... which I am hoping it means it is still getting power to the battery and recharging...
Anyway... I play on the internet for a living, and as you can imagine I need my Rely back! It is a good thing I recently purchased a hard drive and backed up all the goodies... You know, I started to notice little things like this here and there....
Please note that I bought this computer because it just works... period. I am not very technical, but I can follow direction well, so please be as basic as possible...
Thank you for your time and expertise!

    Hi Alexandra,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
From what you describe, it sounds like it might be a dying/dead hard drive. Is your external HD FireWire? Did you clone your PB's HD to it? If so, try booting from the external HD by holding down the option key, then selecting it at the initial window.
If you don't have a bootable ext. HD, try booting from the install disc and run Repair Disk: Boot from install disc (insert disc>restart>immediately hold down c key and keep holding it until you see “Preparing Installation”)>at first screen go to Installer Menu>open Disk Utility>select your HD in the panel on the left side>click Repair Disk at bottom of main window. Run this at least twice, and keep running it until it says “appears ok” twice in a row. If that doesn’t happen, you may need a stronger utility such as DiskWarrior or if the directory is damaged beyond repair, you may need to reinstall the OS, or you may have a damaged HD (repair utilities can only repair the directory structure, not the HD itself).
Let me know what happens and we can go from there.

  • Help! XP install problems with K8T Neo-FIS2R

The other day I put together a new system for a friend.  I got the system to POST properly, the diagnostic lights on the D bracket are fine, and I can edit the BIOS, and the BIOS sees all the drives properly.
However, installing XP Pro has been impossible.  I set the system to boot first to the CD, then to the hard drive (from the BIOS).  After booting to the CD, I never see the message I am used to seeing ("Press any key to boot from CD...) when booting from the XP Pro install disk.  The system thinks about things for a long time with a blank screen, then later it finally begins to do the install.  Things appear normal at this point as in any other time I have installed XP Pro.  I reformat the hard drive to start clean and then the XP install files are copied over.  I get the standard message that the system will reboot and this is where things get flaky.  The system reboots, but I never get the message once again on whether or not to boot from the CD.  So after a while the system tries to install XP once again (it would repeat this process forever....trust me).  I've popped the CD out right after the system reboots so it will try to go to the hard drive.  I just get some kind of boot failure message and to insert the bootable media or whatever.  I've even gone into the BIOS right after the reboot to switch the BIOS loading to try and load the hard drive first.  This still doesn't give me the desired results.
This is by far the weirdest thing I've ever experienced when doing an install.  I've installed XP Pro on at least 15-20 desktops/laptops of different configs and never ran into this before.
The BIOS settings are stock.  I didn't see anything in there that was really needed tweaking or that hadn't "set itself".  I haven't messed with the SATA or RAID stuff since it's not really necessary in this situation.
    Here are the system specs:
    --Antec 430 True Power PSU
    --K8T Neo-FIS2R mobo
    --AMD 3000+ 64 bit CPU
--40GB Maxtor HD (master on IDE1)
    --Lite-On DVD-ROM drive (slave on IDE1)
--80GB Western Digital (8MB buffer) (master on IDE2)
    --Sony DRU510A DVD-RW (slave on IDE2)
    --(2) Kingmax 184 Pin 512MB DDR PC-3200 Model# MPXC22D-38
    --ATI 9800 Pro
    --3.5 Floppy
All the components except the mobo, CPU, and memory are from another AMD system that was running fine.  No problems with any of the HD's or the optical drives.  All new components were purchased from newegg.
I thought that maybe I had a problem with the jumpering of the drives so I messed with those in about every possible combination.  I took IDE2 completely out of the system and just tried to get it running with the 40GB Maxtor and the Lite-On drive.  I tried about every master/slave/cable select combination but nothing was working.  In certain combinations the BIOS recognized everything as I intended.  I've pulled everything off that doesn't need to be connected.  Keyboard, monitor, and internal components are the only things connected.
I don't consider myself to be a guru at this business, but I can get through most things with enough trial and error.  This really has me stumped.
    Any help is certainly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Heath

  • Can anyone help with 10g install problem?

    Hi there
    I have two problems:
    1. When I try to install 10g on Windows 2003 Ent Server the installer fails with "installation failed" verify enough space, 45mb, in c:\..blah... I have 30gig free on c:\ yet the installer continues to fail. I have also run a scan on the disk for bad sectors etc. I've found a few forum comments but no solution. Any ideas? The exact message is:
"Error writing to directory c:\docume~1\admin\..' Please ensure that the directory is writable and has at least 45mb of disk space. Installation cannot continue'
    2. I have succesfully installed 10g on XP Pro SP2 however when I launch the em I am presented with:
"The database status is currently unavailable. It is possible that the database is in mount or nomount state. Click 'Startup' to obtain the current status and open the database. If the database cannot be opened, click 'Perform Recovery' to perform an appropriate recovery operation"
How do I fix this? I tried various options with no success?
    Thanks

After modifying the listeners.ora file to include the SID I was able to succesfully connect (see below).

I am quite confused now. Am I missing something?

    Thank you for every asnwer.

Not sure why this is happening but can be couple of reasons:
    1) Your download is not proper , while installing it is trying to find some required components which are not there and showing that they are disabled.
    2) Which language have you selected for install.
There must be logs created kept at this location: Program Files/Common Files/Adobe/Installers by the name of Adobe Photoshop CS5. Can you please share that.
