Help! Updated to Lion and now my iMovies are missing

iMovie went auto save last round. I just opened iMovie to make some edits to a specific piece and everything is gone. Is there a way to recover?!

Figured it out. Only way to recover is though Time Machine. Search your HD before the Lion install for the folder "iMovie Projects."
Hit bottom right button "Restore" once specific file has been located. Document is now moved to the "iMovie Projects" folder with Lion running.
Bad Apple. Can't believe this was an oversight in the first Lion install.

  • I have just updated to Lion and now my folders no longer show number of items on the bottom. Is there a fix for this?

I have just updated to Lion and now my folders no longer show number of items on the bottom. Is there a fix for this? I allways found that handy. Now I have to click on an icon on the top, This is a backward step if that is now the only way to see the number of items. Am I missing something obvious?

In the good old days of Snow Leopard, an open Finder folder had a border along the bottom of the window which could show the number of items in that window and the total available space on the hard disk or partition that folder resides on. That bottom border is gone in Lion and those two bits of information are gone with it. Is that what you're talking about? If so, I'd like to learn how to get it back too and "Show Item Info" is not the way.

  • I downloaded the recent software update Mountain Lion and now my microsoft word, powerpoint, etc. are no longer supported. Why is this? What can I do?

I downloaded the recent software update Mountain Lion and now my microsoft word, powerpoint, etc. are no longer supported. Why is this? What can I do?

Depending upon how extensive your library of legacy Microsoft Office data files are, you may want to consider continuing to use Microsoft Office 2004.
Microsoft Office's 2011 version is compatible with Lion and presumably either works with Mountain Lion or an update will make it so.  The problem with this approach is that Office 2011 will "convert" your earlier data files and there lies the rub!  For example, I have the need to weekly open a chart created in Excel 2004, but Excel 2011 trashes the chart in its "conversion."
So I have approached the overall problem differently.
The reason your applications do not work in Mountain Lion is that they were written for the older PowerPC CPU that all Macs used up to 2006.  When Apple made its transition to the Intel CPU, they licensed software that they included in all versions of OS X (from Tiger to Leopard and optionally, Snow Leopard) called Rosetta.
Rosetta miraculously allows PowerPC applications to work on the Intel processor transparently; you do not know it is even present.
The problem is that after 6 years of the transition, Apple's license to use the underlying software expired for OS X Lion and all version thereafter (and it is doubtful that the current owner of the software, IBM, would relicense it, even if Apple were inclined to do so).
So for those of use that need to run Lion, I have offered the option to install Snow Leopard (with Rosetta) into Parallels 7:

    And now Mountain Lion:
Full Snow Leopard installation instructions into Parallels 7 are here:

Snow Leopard is $29 and Parallels 7 is $79 retail (cheaper from competitive sources) and Parallels offers a 14 day free trial of Parallels 7 on their website:

hi, I update the iOS and now some app are in other language

Did you change your credit card in itunes under your account to one from another country. That sometimes will change the language on your apps try This   "Click on your email address in the top right of iTunes to get to your account details, then click the "change" button next to your "Country/Region". Select a country for which you have (access to) a credit card. iTunes will ask you for credit card information when you save this country setting.

    Any help greatfully recieved

    Yes.
    Current iPhoto is 9.4.3.
    Current iDVD is 7.1.2
    Current iMovie is 9.0.9
You can either buy iLife 11 which will update or download from the App Store, which doesn't have iDVD.

  • HT4623 I updated my iPad and now my maps are not working as we'll. maps do not identify all establishment like it did a before. What happened?

I updated my iPad and now maps is not showing traffic patterns or identifying all locations. How can this be fixed?

For the release of iOS 6 last fall Apple decided to replace the Google Maps app with Apples own Maps app. That is why you are seeing these changes. A new Google Maps app was released for the iPhone but on an iPad you need to go to Google.com, select Maps and then create a Home Screen bookmark that will allow you to quickly get to Google Maps.

  • Updated to Lion and now iTunes and Apple TV 2 no longer work

I "upgraded" to Lion today and now iTunes won't work and neither will my Apple TV 2. I click on media in iTunes and nothing happens. More than that, though, there's something strange going on with the metadata because movie posters are vanishing and reappearing. At the Apple TV end I get a lot of "Error Occurred Loading This Content" messages, but when it does actually decide to play a file only a couple of seconds of it load and then it freezes up.
This has been great. Upgrade the OS and now I can't listen to music or watch movies anymore.
I reinstalled iTunes, but nothing changed. I rebooted my router and nada. It woulda been cool if someone had actually tested this OS before it was sent out to disable Macs everywhere...
    -Rob

I believe there's some kind of sleep problem with my RAID array going on here. I had to switch the RAID array to the Firewire connection because Lion didn't like my eSata card. Now accessing media on the RAID array seems to be something that takes time to "wake up" the array, though I don't have any sleep modes enabled.

  • I updated my phone to 5.1 and now my pictures are missing, my calendar is blank and my contacts reverted back to a year ago

I updated my iPhone 3 to 5.1 and now my calendar is blank, my contacts and photos reverted back to about a year ago!!

Contacts should be synched to your computer (outlook, address book) or a cloud service (iCloud, Google).  If you haven't been using your phone as recommended, your contacts are gone.

  • My computer shut down and now my photos are missing

My computer shut down unexpectedly and now my photo library is empty in iPhoto.  I can't figure out how to recover the photos.

What version of iPhoto? Assuming 09 or later...
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Updated to Lion and now The Sims 3 freezes. Any ideas?

Recently upgraded to Lion from Snow Leopard. The sims 3 was running fine on Snow Leapord but not seems to crash and not work at all on Lion. Any ideas why?

If the Sims 3 had been running under the Developer releases for NVidia 9400 and at the last minute Apple introduced something that broke previously checked code then shame on Apple. It's not inconcievable,
they blew a few other things with Lion, such as not having a convenient "run this App without any of the
trackpad enhancements" switch or providing a clear disclosure that PPC apps would stop working.
But, in this specific case I think you have to blame EA. At the absolute minimum they owed customer who they sold the Sims 3 to a warning that "Sims3 will not run under Mac OS X Lion with an NVidia 9400 graphics card."
And if anyone wants to initiate it, I'll join a class action here. EA is *still selling* the Sims 3 as being Mac OS X compatible. This is simply, and undeniably fraud.
Now if Apple were doing as good a job as they did a decade ago there would have been a simple switch to click to say "Run this application as though under 10.6". But they did give EA more than enough opprotunity to fix their application or at least warn users to delay an upgrade. This is also specific to something the Sims 3 does.
I'm running Dragon Age Origins and Dragon Age II fine, both under Transgaming's cider.

  • I updated to Lion and now the Search function in Apple Mail is not working properly

Even though the "All" option is selected, when I type a string in the Mail spotlight search box, the string is not found.  But I know for a fact the string is in an email and I've manually found the email (in a folder) and copied and pasted it into the search box.  Mail is still not able to find it.
I have also checked to make sure that "Message contains" is the option in the search box.  I've noticed that in some previous searches there has been a little arrow dropdown option next to the magnifying glass icon.  But that arrow is not showing up consistently...and is not showing up now.
    What am I doing wrong?

Ok...here's the steps to fix this as efficiently as possible.  I have a whole bunch of mailboxes under "On My Mac" and they have a bunch of mailboxes nested in them.  I get my messages into Apple Mail via IMAP.  (I don't know if this matters.)  The steps below assume you have a similar setup.
    1.  Hold the Option key down and click the dropdown arrow next to each mailbox that has one.  This will cause all nested mailboxes below it to appear.
    2.  Go to the top of the list of mailboxes under "On My Mac" and highlight the first mailbox.  Then hold the Shift key down and highlight the last mailbox in the list.  This will cause all of the mailboxes and nested mailboxes to be highlighted.
    3.  From the menu, select "Mailbox --> Rebuild" and the rebuild process will start.
    4.  Watch the top of the mail screen to see the message count change as the mailboxes are being rebuilt.  Wait until the activity stops before doing the next step.
    5.  As the mailboxes were rebuilt, many messages were reset as "Unread" even though every message was previously "Read."  Make sure the mailboxes you want to affect are still highlighted.  Right-click and select "Mark All Messages Read."
That fixed the problem for me.
