Help updating ipod IOS software

I reset my 4th gen ipod touch 32GB so I could change the apple id associated with it and now my software wont update past 6.1 IOS regardless of whether I'm plugged into my computer or not. HElp???

Just put your device into recovery mode. Here is how.
Turn your device off and leave it off.
Plug in your device's USB cable to a computer with iTunes.
Hold down the Home button on your device as you connect the USB cable. Keep holding down the Home button until you see the Connect to iTunes screen.
When you see this screen, release the Home button. If you don't see this screen, try steps 1 through 3 again.
When your device is connected, iTunes will open. You'll see a message saying that iTunes has detected an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch in recovery mode.
Use iTunes to restore your device. Restoring in recovery mode will erase your device. If you previously synced with iTunes or iCloud, you might be able to restore from your backup

Hi all.
The battery life in my phone was decreasing very quickly to the point where I have turned it off with 100% at night, and wake up in the morning to have it at 0%. So yesterday, after making a few calls I got to this nice man who explained to me that it was not a problem with the battery, but I needed to update to the latest version of iOS (generally fixes the problem). I don't have enough space (and cannot clear it), so he suggested another option. I would have to use iTunes. First he told me to upload my data to iCloud. As I have not done it before, it took a while, and it did not work for a while. He sent me the link of what to do via email (Update the iOS software on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support) and hung up, after me thanking him. My cloud finally updated a little before 10PM GMT and I went to sleep. In the morning my battery was not dead, albeit it had only gone done by a few %. However, I still want to update to the newest software.
I have the latest version of iTunes on my laptop and so this morning I plugged in my phone to my laptop (using the computer - phone plug). However I cannot see where to select my device. My phone is not coming up in any corner, and it is not charging when it is plugged into my laptop either (I read somewhere that it should). So my question is, how do I select my device. It is plugged in but it not coming up for me. Please be as explicit as possible.
If it helps I have an iPhone 4s bought in December 2013.

I was halfway thru updating ipod touch software, i walked away from computer and when i came back there was an error "1602" and a picture on my ipod (requesting to connect to itunes?) but WILL NOT WORK AT ALL!
What's going on? Seems like a lot of people are having similar problems all at the same time.

Ensure proper USB isolation troubleshooting has been performed, and test with a known-good cable.
Follow the steps listed for Error 1604.
This error may be resolved by disabling, deactivating, or uninstalling third-party security, antivirus, and firewall software. See steps in this article for details on troubleshooting security software.
Error 1603: If you receive this error and the iOS device is not automatically placed into recovery mode, it may be necessary to do so manually. Refer to iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to restore for steps on placing iPhone into forced recovery mode. Also, remove the IPSW and attempt to restore again. If you do not want to remove the IPSW in the original user, try restoring in a new administrator user.
Error 1604: This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, uninstalling and reinstalling USB ports, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections, device not recognized properly, computer won't recognize a FireWire or USB device). If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the USB 30-pin dock-connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.

Oops, sorry this is not possible!
Yes, it is very silly but the iPad 1 does not have enough ram to cope with ios 6 or 7. Every other iPad can go upto ios 7 except iPad 1, which stays as ios 5.1.1
I recommend upgrading ur iPad, if u can't afford it maybe then u can always sell your iPad and use that money to buy a new one!!

I recently updated my IOS software on my IPAD with the latest version and now video from some sites does not run. I did not do the update on my other IPAD and the video runs fine. Any idea why.

Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. I have been trying since Christmas to update my ipod classic's software. But itunes takes ages in trying to connect to the ipod software update server, and then won't connect. My internet connection is working fine for everything else. Is itunes the only way to update my software?

hey there I experience the same problem. when I try to update my ipod's software I get the following message: +iTunes could not contact the ipod software update server because you are not connected to the internet. Make sure your internet connection is active and try again.+
Funny that shopping in the store works fine and also for everything else my internet connection is working.

hello, i have the same problem as you, did you back up before iOS 5? so, you your situation is, that you have an empty, iOS 5 ipod, with the apps, but no game data, no notes, contacts, photos etc. ? ive got the same problem, did any of your apps disappear by any chance? if you backed up before update, use that, if not, i suggest restore to the oldest back up you have, but the newest back up you had before iOS 5, its better than an emptry ipod, hope i helped.

I can not update my ipod touch....its model is 4.3.5.(8L1)... i tried to update on i tunes...everytime for 70 minutes it loads and loads and at the end itt gives error...and can not load the update....so icant update to ios 5...is there an other way to update except i tunes? Possible hardware issues
Error 48 (or -48): Quit iTunes, discard the .ipsw file, (see the steps under Advanced Steps > Rename, move, or delete the iOS software file (.ipsw) below for file locations), open iTunes and attempt to download the update again.

I need help, I updated to ios 6 using Wifi and apparently it was successful, prompted my phone to automatically reboot on its own. After which it showed on the screen to connect it to itunes which I did, and now it couldn't recognise my iphone! It said to download the software update but everytime I do so it gives me an error at the end! Now I can't use my phone! Need help PLEASE.

I have this exact same problem! I downloaded & tried to update my iTunes and it started to apply it to my iPhone. Now my phone is stuck on that same screen (indicating that I should plug it into my computer), but even when I plug it into my updated computer & iTunes nothing happens. iTunes doesn't even recognize that my phone is plugged in. I really need to use my phone today, please help both Philip and myself!
