Help updating library from my mini

my hard drive crashed and I need to get the music on my mini back to my library...How?

wicker,
Try this.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
However it appears that no playlists or any other info such as ratings/last played etc will transfer.
If this is important to you, you may want to use other options.
There's Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod back to the computer.

  • Need help with transferring from ipod mini to nano!

I own an iPod mini and just went and bought an iPod nano and am wondering how to transfer the music from my mini onto my nano. This may seem like a dumb question but I'm not finding a way in iTunes to do it. Thanks for help in advance

IPods are designed to transfer music in a one way fashion. Meaning, iPods can only have music transferred to them via iTunes, not vice versa. So, in your case, where the iPod mini has your music on its memory, you will be unable to transfer the actual music back to the computer. Hopefully, you have the music from the iPod mini stored on your computer or on some flash drive to be able to import the same music to the iPod nano. I am assuming that this is the case, your music being on iTunes, else other implications would have occurred in updating the iPod mini. Put simply, you need to have your music solely on iTunes and transfer from there to the iPod nano. Hopefully this helps.

  • Updating library from AP2 to AP3?

Due to ongoing issues with Aperture 2.1 not working on my Powermac G5 after I did a HD swap and then used my TM backup to put everything onto the brand new drive (I don't have the AP2 install discs and I have tried a number of of other things and it still won't open) I went out and bought AP3 for my Macbook Pro. I put my library on an external drive and will use that with my MBP to store the library from now on. Now do I have to update that library to work with AP3? If so, how do I go about doing that?
    Thanks

Tough week. The Aperture 2 library will be updated to Aperture 3 the first time time you open 3 and access the library. You'll get a prompt telling you you need to update the library and if it should proceed.
A few points before you get going.
First the external drive you have the library on is formatted Mac OS X extended? See [Format external drives to Mac OS Extended before using with Aperture|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3509] This is important and I have a feeling it's a cause of some of the problems some people have reported upgrading to 3.
Second make sure you have a backup of your 2 library before you begin the upgrade just in case.
Third make sure your MBP is up to date. Run software update just to make sure. Update Aperture if need be. Start +Disk Utility+ and run *fix permissions*.
Fourth I would have my external library off-line the first time I fired up 3 after the install. In this case Aperture will create an empty library in your pictures folder. Give it a shakedown. Import some pictures into it from your camera and from the disk. If you got the boxed version of 3 you have the DVD with the sample library on it load it up and mess around before upgrading your library.
And finally when you do the upgrade prepare for it to take some time. Depending on the size of your library it could take overnight or longer.
    Good luck.

  • Transferring iTunes library from G4 mini to new iMac

We have recently upgraded our apple computer. We got a new iMac and now I would like to be able to move my son's itunes library from the old g4 mini to the new imac. He has just received an iphone so he would like to be able to sync his iphone with itunes. I have been doing some research and this was my pan of attack, please let me know if this would work.
    1) Create a user account on the new imac that is identical to his user account on the mac mini.
    2) Copy his itunes files from the mini onto a USB flash drive
    3) Either drag the files from the UBS drive into the new itunes folder on the imac or import the files using itunes (not sure which one to to do)
I think that should do it.

I thought I had done this before with Tiger.

  • Moving iTunes Library from iPod mini to new computer (old hard drive dead)

Hi all, I own a 2nd gen (I believe) iPod mini with all of my music from my iTunes library on it. Last weekend, my computer began freezing/crashing while loading my desktop, and a diagnostic confirmed that the read/write head on my hard drive was bad. I don't currently have the spare cash to send it away to a recovery lab, so I am starting from scratch with a new computer I will be ordering today.
My question is this--is it going to be possible to transfer the music from my iPod to my new computer? Many of the songs on my iPod are from other sources, during the years that I was not using iTunes, and from what I have read I will only be able to transfer my purchased music. I know there is a way to make my iPod into a hard drive in order to transfer the music to my new computer, but as I said, I cannot even boot up my old machine, and thus cannot access my iTunes library on my HD.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions and advice you may have.

  • Help! Import from Handycam Mini dvd to ANYTHING!

Hello, sorry if this has been asked dozens of times before. I searched for recent posts but none seemed to cure my problem. I am trying to get files from a sony handycam mini dvd camera (I know, I know. It's not mine) into an editing program. Final Cut won't recognize the files and so my only hope if for imovie to. I am running imovie 4 point something. The camera only has a usb wire, it's not able to do live capture due to it not being a tape, so what do i do???
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Or if you can refer me to a thread that covered this, I'll see if It can help.
Thank you apple support, you're my only hope.
    -Joeyc

I have handbrake, but I can't get my computer to read the files encoded on the mini dvd. Also, I need the quality better. Hopefully I can get it good enough to put up on a big screen; at least .dv or .mov. Main problem is, getting the files so that my apple can read whatever format sony created for their stupid little discs. Way to make things universal sony!
    Thanks,

  • Need help updating records from a subset yielded by a subquery.

Hi, retired, hobby coder needing (further) help in transact-sql scripting with a view to creating a stored procedure within a Sequel DB.  For the purposes of this investigation I have a table with 23 records.   I am trying to update a specific
field for 10 of the records based on the (TOP 10) records selected from a sub query where I select the TOP 20 records based upon different field.
I select my desired 10 records (TOP 10) from a sup query selecting the TOP 20 based upon the date field (latest 20) for a specific user (GID) as follows:
I then attempt to update only these 10 records as follows:
As you can see it updated all 23 rows in the table, not just the 10 I yielded by the underlying query.
In reviewing the documentation it appeared that referencing the Scores_id column and using the 'IN' keyword would work, i.e., UPDATE Scores WHERE Score_id IN (SELECT TOP 10* ..... would be appropriate but I got the an error message, 'Only one expression
can be specified in the select list when the subquery is not introduced with EXISTS.'
Can someone assist me with the proper syntax for this script?  Additionally, since there are limitations on the number of variables which can be used any advice on how to structure a stored procedure where the GID is the initial variable and Score_id
the second would be appreciated also.
    Regards,
    Minuend

The query you have written will always update all or no rows in the table, since it says
    UPDATE Scores
    SET    ...
    WHERE  EXISTS (...)
The EXISTS clause is, logically, evaluated for each row. Normally, when you use EXISTS you correlated the subquery with the surrounding query, so that the values the subquery works with are different for each row. But your subquery is uncorrelated, and will
return the same value, TRUE or FALSE, for each row.
IN can certainly work, but then you cannot have "SELECT TOP 10 *", but you need to have "SELECT TOP Score_id", since when you use IN, the subquery must be a single-column query.
Another alternative, which is somewhat difficult to digest the first you see it, but which is more efficient, and more concise, once you have learn it, is to work directly from the query you have:
      WITH CTE AS (
         SELECT TOP 10 *
          FROM (SELECT TOP 20...
     UPDATE CTE
     SET    Used = '*'

  • Relocating mp3s to new folders - need help updating library

I've moved my mp3's from being altogether in one folder to being in separate folders sorted by artist and then in sub-folders sorted by album.
The problem is that my iTunes library needs updating, now that the songs are in different directories. I could update each song individually and point the library link to the new file but this could take a long time with over 1000 mp3's.
So, is there a quicker, easier way of updating my library to reflect the changes in my mp3 folders?
    Thanks
    Paul

    Nope.
You're probably going to have to dump your playlists, ratings, placuonts, etc. and start your library over. You can do that by selecting everything in the library, hitting delete, and making sure not to move them to the Recycle Bin.
Then readd all of the folders.

  • Restore iphoto library from crashed mini Time Machine backup on new mb pro

    Hello,
My old mac mini is gone and I have a new macbook pro. Now I want to restore my iphoto library (260GB) from the most recent Time Machine backup but how can I do that without restoring the whole machine back? The problem is I don't have the needed space for the whole machine restore on my mb Pro. The new Pro is 500GB and the mini backup is 900gb. Even my user restore from the migration assistent can't complete because the space isn't there.

I Found it, i need to browse in finder to the time machine file in de folder where the backup is located. After I mount the file I can open timemachine with ctrl+click and open another timemachine backup. Select the mac mini backup and browse and restore. Wow I love, you only need to know how to do it    thanks for the replys

  • How to transfer iTunes library from Mac Mini to New Macbook Pro?

I have my wife's iPad and iPhone synced to our Mac Mini.  I purchased a new Macbook Pro for her.  I want to have her iPhone and iPad now sync to the Macbook Pro and not lose any apps or data along the way.  Both machines are running iTunes 11.2.1.  I have read other tutorials about transfering but they are off old versions of iTunes.  The new iTunes doesn't allow you to right click the device and "Transfer Purchases" manually any more.  I have home share turned on and have already transfered all the music to the new Macbook.
Can someone write up a quick step by step that would allow me to sync to her new Pro without losing her app data and contacts?
I also manually sync devices on all machines instead of auto sync on plugin.
    Thanks.

I think the method for transferring libraries hasn't changed since the very first version of iTunes.
Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Open iTunes and immediately hold down the option (alt) key (shift on Windows) so you get a prompt to select a library, then guide it to the 'iTunes Library.itl' file in the moved iTunes folder.
If you put the copied iTunes folder in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music  then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there.  (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)

  • Need help playing library from multiple machines...

My main computer (desktop) @ my house 'houses' my mp3 collection. I have networked laptops in my garage and just added another laptop to my tv room to play music from.
The problem I run into is having the laptop rescan the desktops library over and over and over again.
Is there a way to 'sync' the xml library file the desktop is using to the laptops? I constantly add files to 'the library' and am increasingly agitated every time I use one of the laptops and my 'new' music is not there.

Did you try sharing your Music from within iTunes? On your Desktop computer, in Preferences, Sharing tab, check "Share my library...".
On the other computers, make sure "Look for shared libraries" is checked. As long as iTunes is open on the "main" computer, all the other ones should be able to listen to music from the main computer by selecting it from the "Shared" section in the sources list.

  • Help restoring library from external disk backup

I recently had to reformat my hard drive, and I backed up my entire "Pictures" folder to the external drive. Is there a simple way to restore my library to my original disk and get all of my data back without having to re-import everything?

    Jbooye
    Random answer: Perhaps.
It depends on what you want to achieve...
The advantage to a back up utility such as Chronosync or DejaVu is that they will execute incremental back ups - which is quite handy as your library grows. With incrementation, after the first back up (which copies the entire library) the subsequent runs simply update the library with the changes. This is much quicker with large libraries. Also, depending on the app, you can schedule back ups to run automatically.
But at heart, backing up is simply making a copy of the iPhoto Library Folder...

  • Need help: updating records from a node to another node.

    Hi Gurus,
I guess most of you would be laughing at me but I'll not from Java background but.
    scenario:
I have a node (eg. Node A) containing some records, say...with keys A,B,C,D,E.
I also having anothe node (eg Node B) containing the update records of some of the Keys, eg. A,D,E
How do I update node A with the updated values of node B.
    a ABAP representation would be:
    LOOP AT NODE_B.
      LOOP AT NODE_A.
        IF NODE_A-KEY = NODE_B-KEY.
          MOVE-CORRESPONDING NODE_B to NODE_A.
          MODIFY NODE_A.
        ENDIF.
      ENDLOOP.
    ENDLOOP.
    thanks.

    Hi Jansen,
Are you using model node or value? If it is model node you need store in Node B just reference to model class from Node B. If it is value node then you can store keys of elements from Node A moved to Node B in some java Map implementation.

  • How can I remove the photo library from my mini iPad (6.1 GB) to regain storage for essential applications?

I have tried the work around recommended on YouTube of creating a blank folder on my PC and syncing my photos on the mini iPad to that folder but it has not worked. I badly need the 6.1 GB as I use my mini iPad for meetings and I cant get my notetaking apps to work any more! I have removed everything else I can find that is dispensable. Thanks for your advice.

You probably need to run your movies thru a piece of software called "Handbrake" on your PC. You can remove closed captioning and only have the language you want.  Plus it will produce the output suitable for viewing on any Apple device.
    Google it.
