  • Upgrading ram in Macbook pro 2 Model 8,3

I want to upgrade the RAM in my Early 2011 macbook Pro. I already purchased it. I bought CORSAIR 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600). When I go to Apple's site to see how to install it says I can't put more than 8GB in this machine.I went to Corsair's site and plugged in the model etc. this memory came up as being compatible.  I'm very confused. The Apple specs say this model supports up to 8GB. Does that mean in each slot or total. I will loose $ if I have to return these, but I don't want to harm my computer.

    Glad I could help.

  • Upgrade ram on macbook pro 2010

I have bought two different brands (G.Skill and PNY) of ram for my Macbook Pro 13.3 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (2010) trying to upgrade from 4GB to 8GB  and both are not working.  Meaning I followed the exact instructions, didn't touch the Gold and installed it the way I was supposed to.  When I turn it on, it freezes.  When I put the old memory in ( 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 ) it starts up fine.  The new memory is 1066. . .could that be the problem?  I've gone through two "ram finders" where you put in the different specs of the Macbook and it's brought up the exact same ones each time.  The brand I got this time, PNY, said it was Mac Compatible.  What am I doing wrong?  And do I need the exact same brand that's already in my Macbook (Samsung) or is there a different brand that will be comparable?
    Thanks.

It is always advisable to use the same brand for both the memory chip.
As you wrote you have one RAM stick from PNY and other from G.Skill that may be the cause of problem.
Buy both the RAM chip of same brand.
    Hope that helps.

  • Macbook Pro 2010 Model Keyboard Issue - Middle keys not working

    Hi.
I have a Macbook Pro 2010 model, for no other reason other than my cat sitting on it (tiny cat, very dry...) the middle row of keys (A,S,D,F,G,H,J,K,L) all stopped working, CAPS still works, as well as : ; " ' and the enter/return key.
I've done nearly everything I can think of, reset everything, reinstalled OS X... Other than pulling the thing apart.
Any suggestions or ideas of how I might fix this cheaply? Or what the problem may be?

    Hello AJTheGamer
Check with the Keyboard Viewer to make sure no other keys are being pushed down to prevent it from the keys that you are typing to be registered. Another thing you can check is to try and create a new user to see if the issue carries across the system as a whole.
One or more keys on the keyboard do not respond

  • Trying to upgrade RAM on Macbook Pro 15" (Mid-2010).

Hi I have a Macbook Pro 6,2 (Mid 2010 / 15-inch) with an intel core i7 processor 2.66GHz, and I recently tried to upgrade my 4GB RAM to an 8GB RAM, after making sure online and from the tech specs that my computer can handle 8GB. Whenever I startup after installing the 8GB it stays stuck at the Apple logo startup screen, but when I put my old 4GB RAM back in it starts up normally, anyone know why?

Since it works when you use Apple's RAM, the problem is most likely the RAM you were sold. Unfortunately, all RAM isn't created equal so the vendor is an important part of the equation, both selling RAM that actually works with Macs and standing behind their product when it doesn't. This vendor does both.
See if you can get your money back.

  • Upgrading RAM on MacBook Pro 7.1 13"

Hi, I have a 13" MacBook Pro from Mid 2010 - I believe that is the 7.1 model (2.4ghz), and I am looking to upgrade the RAM.
Having had a look through I have seemed to find out that this model can take up to 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 1066MHz RAM.
Can someone please confirm if this is correct, and if so can you please advise the best place to purchase such memory (online in the UK)?
    Many thanks for your help.

Officially it supports 8GB of RAM, but you can update to 16, Take a look at this link http://support.apple.com/kb/SP583
I am not sure where purchase in the UK, but take a look at this link, http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/Apple_MacBook_MacBook_Pro/Upgrade/DDR3

  • Upgrading RAM on MacBook Pro 13" to 1 Slot of 4Gb RAM

    Please help,
I want to upgrade my MacBook Pro's RAM. Currently I have 2Gb of RAM, one 1Gb on the top slot and another one 1Gb in the bottom slot. I want to upgrade to 4Gb of RAM so that I only use one 4Gb on the top slot.
    TechSpecs:
    Model Name: MacBook Pro
    Model Identifier: MacBookPro5,5
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 2.26 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
    L2 Cache: 3 MB
    Memory: 2 GB
    Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz
    Boot ROM Version: MBP55.00AC.B03

I thought if I was only going to use 1 module, I should put it in the bottom slot.
It doesn't matter which slot you put it in. If you put it in the bottom slot, you won't have to remove it first if you decide to add a second one later. But why on earth would you choose not to use both slots now, when you have modules to put in both? 5GB of RAM is better than 4GB.

  • Upgrade RAM for MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013)

    Hi
Is it possible to upgrade the 8GB to 16GB RAM for the above mentioned macbook pro?
    thanks

The Retina display models cannot have the ram upgraded post purchase...the ram modules are soldered to the logic board.

  • 2.4Ghz MacBook Pro 2010 model doesw not connect to n network.

I have three Mac's one iMac, one Mac Mini (2010) and a brand new 13" MacBook Pro. I am using a Buffalo WHR-HP-GN wireless N router. All the computers except the MacBook Pro connect at N speeds, but the MacBook Pro connects at G speeds. All the computers are in the same room so distance is not the problem. I thought interference was the problem, so I turned off WiFi on the other computers and used Ethernet cables. Still the MacBook Pro would not connect at N speeds. I brought it to the Apple store and it connects at N speeds there. Any ideas why it will not connect here at home?

Yes it helps clarify, but no it doesn't answer your particular problem. The Wireless Network Access: Allow All would be the parameter I asked about.
You indicated it was 802.11b (only?) network. If so, it would be a pretty old unit. Linksys Model ?what? Perhaps you should check its firmware and see if there have been updates posted on the Linksys support site.

  • Problem after upgrading ram in macbook pro 5,3 to 8gb

    Hello.
I was trying to help my friend, to upgrade his macbook pro 5.3's memmory, from 4 gb to 8 gb.
    We bought the cm3x8gsdkit1066:
    Memory Configuration     Dual Channel
    Memory Type                    DDR3
    Package - Memory Pin     204
    Speed Rating                    PC3-8500 (1066MHz)
    Package - Memory FormatSODIMM
    http://www.corsair.com/en/memory-by-product-family/value-select-memory-upgrades/ cm3x8gsdkit1066.html
As i see this, the memmory, should be fine, and suported, and the macbook accepts 8 gb as a max.
When the computer boots, it beeps 3 times, waits, and repeat it. I found this as a error code for the ram?
So my problem, what can i do to solve this problem? The macbook accepts the old ram, and boots up fine.
    Best regards
    Christian Holm

It may be that the RAM is not compatible or faulty for some reason.  Have you tried to install it again just to make certain that it is seated correctly.  If still no success, I would return it and get RAM from Crucial or OWC.  They are the two vendors of failsafe Mac RAM.
    Ciao.
8 Gb RAM for the mid 2009 MBP should cost about $50.  If you paid the price on the link,  you paid too much.

  • Upgrading RAM on MacBook Pro (October 2008)

i have 2gb of ram currently.
i was wondering whether i could buy 2 4gb sticks of ram
will the laptop recognize 8gb of ram
i have read that it only recognizes 3gb
    i need to know
    thanks

Just for clarification, you can upgrade the early 2009 models of the 15" Macbook Pro to 8GB of RAM. As long as you have the 2.66 or 2.93 version (or any subsequent model) then the same 8GB upgrade kit sold for the 17" Unibody will work (I'm typing this now on a 2.66GHz 15" with 8GB installed). Whether or not this configuration is officially supported as of the time of this writing is unknown but there is no technical limitation to prevent it from being done, unlike the earlier models (2.4, 2.53, 2.8) which do not support anything over 4GB (the OS may see it but it won't run reliably).
