HELP - USB/FW turns my Mac off

I'm running L7.1 and have both FW and PCI based audio interfaces, 1xUnitor 8 + 2x AMT 8 for Midi.
Yesterday I installed the beta version 2 of SoundDiver which I downloaded from the Emagic site. Along with the program was installed a USB-mididriver and an XSKey driver.
Now everytime I click on an application that uses USB or FW ( like 'Audio Midi Setup', Logic or SoundDiver, mLan AutocConnector) my G5 shuts down instantly - just like someone pulled the powercable out of the wall.
It has problems starting up with anything connected via USB/FW.
If it comes back up with nothing connected, if I reconnect the XS Key or Midi interfaces it shuts down.
I tried removing the Emagic USB Midi driver and installing the latest (1.7) still no luck.
I removed the USB Driver and XSKey Driver packages from 'Receipt' folder, reinstalled the 'ProApp' update, zapped P-ram, repaired permissions, ran FSCK + the hardware test from the OS Cd - no change.
The weird thing is I used to use the same SoundDiver installation on my G4 in Tiger with no problems.
Please help - I have all week booked next week in my studio, and I can't run anything.
-Kim

A very very big thank you ! I have tried using a powered USB hub straight into my imac and the memory stick works ! but l the printer wont work. Excellent advice. I will try your method of using 2 5m cables with a power hub in the middle and let you know if this method will work for me. Many thanks again for all of your time and help.

    Hi Guys
Any one can help me out?
Everytime when I turn my Mac off, it always doing a FileVault backing up before shuts down. This backing up taking a long time, any idea what I shoud do?
    Many thanks

You need not do anything. Leave the computer be. After it finishes the backup it will shut down on its own. You need to let it backup because this is the only time you can backup the computer.

Tried to upgrade to osx 10.9 from 10.7 and I didn't notice that it downloads in the launcher. I turned my mac off and ever since then it has glitched out and will not download no matter what I do. I have had it for 3 years which is out of warranty. It now has a blank bar under the launch pad and no matter how many times I try re-downloading it or restarting my computer it does not work. I use too play starcraft and other games on this computer although new patched/updates have made it that I can no longer do that now. Really frustrating having to deal with this especially after buying this computer upfront and now out of warranty.

Go to your Applications folder and find a file called "Install OS X Mavericks".  Send it to the trash and delete it.  Then try the download again.

Every time I turn my mac off, the desktop background changes. It always returns to the same picture, which was the second or third thing I changed my desktop to after getting my mac. I have background switching unchecked in my preferences, and I have never selected it as an option. Also, when I go to my preferences, it will show the icon of the picture I changed it to, even though the desktop itself has switched back.

I would start with some basic troubleshooting.

NOTE: refer to article "About Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions feature" found here http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1452 - for the actual apple article on these step. ----
    - click finder in the bottom dock, and in the window that opens, select applications in the left column - scroll through until you see the 'Utilities' folder and double click to open it.  Then double click on 'Disk Utility'
    - When prompted to select a disk volume or image, select the 'Macintosh HD' in the left column
    - ensure the the "first aid" tab is highlighted blue in the middle of the screen
    - click the button at the bottom that says 'Repair Disk Permissions'
    - this process will take a few minutes to run.  It will indicate it's done, by scrolling to the bottom of the "details area" displaying 'Permissions repair complete'

    Hello,
I recently installed SL 10.6.3 and since, I ca't turn my computor off... it restarts, I have tu unplug it.
I phoned support but they say it's my computor, not the software. However, on checking on the net, it seems I'm not the only person with this problem.
    Could anybody help me?
    Thank you
ps It's my first time here, I hope I've done things properly
    Bonjour,

    1) ensure iTunes is authorized for your iTunes store account(s)
    2) connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
    3) sync the device
iTunes will wipe the iPhone but, since you transferred your purchases in the previous step, your content will be in your library and you can re-populate the iPhone with it.
above works for purchases from the iTunes store. for everything else, check out this post by Zevoneer.

  • Why does my mac mini re-open all of my previous sessions activity and windows even when I have closed them before turning my mac off?

When ever I boot up my mac mini it re-opens all of my activity from my previous use of it. This happens even if I quit all the running programes before I turned it off. It does not effect the computer when its running but it is bugging the crap out of me. Any help would be much appreiciated.

Try going to System Preferences > General > and uncheck Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps
    See if that helps.
Also when you say you quit all running programs, do you just click on the red X ballon in the top left or do you actually CMD + Quit?

  • How do I turn HD settings off to sync to ipod nano?

I have a 5th Generation iPod nano, and I recently purchased an episode of "Doctor Who", but apparently it won't sync to my ipod. I begin to figure its the HD setting and I have tried to turn it off using the playback option in prefences and set it to Standard Mode, but it still won't let me sync it?
    Please help?

To turn it completely off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider.
    Regards.

Let the battery fully darain. After charging for an least an hour try a reset and restore. Use Recovery mode if necessary.
If not successful, then time for an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

    Recovery Mode
    1. Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
    2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
    3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
    4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears, release the Home button.
    5. iTunes should alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then click Restore to restore the device.
Note: You need to be patient and repeat the above many times to recover your iPad. Data will be lost.

  • Help, My iPod just turns on and off...my PC doesn't even get to "see" it.

I just got the 5G 60 Gig iPod. I was charging it for the first time. And of course windows wanted to jump on in. iTunes started up and wanted to transfer music, the unit wanted it's initial setup, but iTunes switched it over to th Do Not Disconnect mode. I got the register your new iPod screens to come up, then music started automatically transfering. Then I got I must reboot my computer screen...I ignored it, figuring it had to finish getting the music transfered. Then about a 1/3 into the music tansfer, I got some kind of could not find error concening the music, then my computer stopped doing anything. I did a restart, no all my iPod does is turn on and off by itself, (from the Apple icon, to back off) and won't stop doing it. I tried resetting the unit, but then it still continues. Connecting and reconnecting the USB cable, restarting the PC etc....Help, what do I do. Frustrated is beyond what I'm feeling right now...I keep thinking what the **** I just spent, for this to be the end result!! Is this unit fried? Or will it get damaged!!! HELP

I had exactly the same issue when connecting my new BLACK 60mb Video iPod to connect to my PC via USB 2.0.
The iPod kept Crashing & Freezing also iTunes become unstable and very slow, it kept saying "unable to write to disk" every 5 minutes and I had to disconnect & re-connect for the same message to show again in 5 mins later, it eventually told me not to disconnect the iPod. However, after 30 mins i just did it.
I then opened iPod updater and re-attached my ipod with USB 1.
This seemed to take an age to recognise (5 mins +) but bear with it. Once it was connected I reinstated to factory settings, once I did this it automatically told me to update my software to 1.1.1.
When I then opened iTunes it again took 5 mins to connect, but it then started to transfer my music, which took over 6 hours to do 22MB.
Having said that I have had no "can not write messages"
Today I have conencted (again taking 5 mins to connect) but it has transfered over 1000 photos in under 4 mins and updated all tunes.
    hope this helps,
