Help using iDVD with iMovie '11

I bought the new iMovie '11 from the Mac App Store, and have made a movie successfully on my iMac with OSX 10.6.8.
However, it doesn't seem to be able to talk to my version of iDVD 6 which looks pretty out of date, but I can't seem to
find the new version on the App Store.
There is nothing new for me to download via Software Update.
Could anyone advise me how I can update my iDVD?

Thanks for the fast responses everyone! It does indeed work as AppleMan1958 says, by sharing as large movie. I had to manually drag it to iDVD from a Finder window as it doesn't appear in the media browser, but apart from that it works fine!
I am just a bit puzzled as to why I can buy certain elements of new iLife in the App Store, but others are not available to download....

How can I burn an mpeg onto a DVD without having to use IDVD or IMovie?

So I've got a few jpg's and mpeg's that I would like to burn for PC friends, but the only way I can figure out how to get these onto a CD or DVD is by using IDVD or IMovie with my IMac. Is there a way around this? Why doesn't a blank DVD or CD icon come up on the desktop once inserted so that I can simply drag and drop my photos and short movies to it to be burned accordingly? seem to appear in the preferences of IDVD, DVD
Player, or Quicktime. It seems strange that the only
way I can burn a movie is to create a new IMovie
project and and then burn it via IDVD. This is a
huge hassle when all I want is a few short videos in
no particular order saved on a CD or DVD. My CD
player doesn't seem to be listed separately and is
tied into Itunes. Isn't ILife suppose to make

Taking a home movie off a disc and using iDVD with it

I have had transferred old 8mm tapes to a DVD format using an on-line service. When I download the movie to my Mac they are in .VOB format. Can I use these with iDVD? I can play them from the downloaded version but I don't know how to use iDVD with them. I'm running iLife 09 and Leopard 10.5.6

Many years ago (before DVD) I had old 8mm movies transferred to VHS. A couple years ago I copied them to DVD by using a DVD burner. To import them into iMovie, I used Streamclip (which is free).
Do a search on this board for "Streamclip" and you'll find better instruction than I can give. It worked for me.

Newbie question: Should I use iDVD o iMovie?

I use a Sony camcorder with the mini-DV tapes. I have about 20 old tapes I'd like to turn into DVDs. This is my first time using iDVD or iMovie.
I'd like to keep things simple: Download the movies to my iMac, make a handful of chapter points and burn to DVD.
Not interested in adding soundtracks, trimming the clips, etc etc. Just keep it simple.
Each 1 hour tape typically has about 8-12 individual clips of a few minutes each (all video is my little kids). I want to be able to access each clip via an upfront menu selection (like a normal movie DVD).
Should I use iDVD to do this or iMovie??
If iDVD, what are some starter tips for me. Thanks!!

URGENT HELP IS NEEDED WITH IMOVIE and MY SONY HD CAMERA HDR XR100E

Hi there Fellow Mac Users.
ok heres the situation..
i bought the brand new sony HDR xr100E Video camera and as soon as i connetced it a few weeks back to my Apple Mac IMOVIE opened automatically and i was able to edit the movie, add sound, titles etc.
Now last week there was a IMOVIE Update launched via software update and i downloaded it and now since then my Sony Cameara does not work with IMOVIE as imovie does not recognise it any more.
when ever you go to the option to import from cameara it does not find the camera but instead it opens the I sight Camera on the Macbook.
i have uninstalled the operating system, reinstalled, i have uninstalled the imovie application, reinstalled and still nothing.
Can some one , anyone please help me ASAP im desperate.. ow and PS has anyone else exeprienced this same issue since the Upgrade?

Thanks. What we will be using it for is mainly videoing children and family and we would like the 1080 HD but not necessarily hooked on the tape system. A hydrid might be something... like the BD and HDD. I found the Sony autofocus a bit slow at times which we would like to improve and we would like to have something that easily allow some pre-editing before getting to the FCE (I mean deleting unwanted clips etc). Also preferably not too large and heavy...

Need help using LR with a 2nd Computer/Laptop

I just installed LR on to my laptop last night. I currently have all my photos saved to my desktop in e:\photos. I belived the sidecars are in that same folder, and the other stuff is in the default c:\docandsettings (or whatever it is).
The laptop is on a wireless network and my desktop's e: drive is accessible.
So last night I wanted to try lightroom on the laptop with the files I have on my desktop. Am I correct in that what I need to do is import files from current location so that I'll only have one version of the photos? If I make changes on the laptop, will the sidecar be changed so I'll see the change when I use the desktop? Or is there a different/better way to do this?
The other thing I want to do is be able to teather my camera (Canon 30D) to the laptop and shoot that way. I was able to do it using Canon's DPP and EOS Utilities software where the photo is writen directly to the hard drive. But when I plug my camera in, Lightroom opens as well. Is there a way to shoot directly into Lightroom? Or shoot to the card so LR opens the file from the camera without having to do a separate import?

Help using -replace with wildcard characters, specifically braces

Needing help in using -replace with literal wildcard characters, specifically the braces characters. From reading old posts online this seems to have been a notorious shortcoming of PowerShell, but not sure if it's been resolved or not. My simple
code tries to remove the braces as follows (would like to keep the foreach loop and everything as is if possible):
$string = "test[]"
$braces = @("``[","``]")
Foreach($brace in $braces){

This code gives an error at the -replace line, saying "The regular expression pattern `] is not valid." I'm not sure how to pass the literal brace characters to the -replace parameter? Can this be done?

-like is a wildcard operator (it recognized wildcard patterns like * ,? and [a-z].
For a regular expression you use the -match operator.
Wildcard patterns and regular expressions are not interchangeable.

Using MacGallery with iMovie HD

Can MacGallery be used with iMovie HD? The system requirements for iMovie 08 are too advanced for my system but I would like to use MacGallery.

Install iLife 08 and you can create "Gallery" pages using iPhoto 7.0.1.
Export your iMovie 6 Project to an appropriately sized QuickTime file, bring it into iPhoto and upload.

I am trying to use AEWsetunsol() with Powerbuilder 7 on WinNT 4 (sp6a) or Win2000.
Can anyone help with regards to what we have to do in PB to get this to work?

Got it working but had to write a tpinit() wrapper in a DLL in order to get it
to work.
The wrapper function allocated the TPINIT buffer and populated the structure with
appropriate usernames/passwords (none in my case) but we set the 'flags' field
to 1 (notify by signal). [Powerbuilder does not handle structures terribly well
I am led to understand]
If we did not do this, the AEWsetunsol() did not work.
The code window open is as follows :-

Burning a project from imovie to a dvd using idvd with no superdrive

Hi i have a mini mac and i have made a movie in imovie and put it on to a project in idvd i had it all and ready to burn to a dvd and it wont let me it keeps saying that i dont have a superdrive and i need an external burning device??? i have a pye video vhs to dvd burner that plays dvds and vhs's will this work?? if not what do i need?? and how do i do it???? completly new to mac!! please help!!!!

step one:
Burn a disc image to the desktop from iDvd's file menu. That doesn't require an S-Drive.
step two:
Connect an external burner to your mac and then burn the disc image to Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden, or Maxell Dvd-r at 4x.
or
Connect your mac to another mac with an S-Drive via FW cable or save the disc image to an ext. hdd and then take that external device to the mac you wish to use to burn the disc image to dvd-r.

Help req'd using VideoPier with iMovie 08

As iMovie 08 can't read my video footage I'm using this application - VideoPier- to de-code it. However, when I export my footage to iMovie 08 it either goes to the 'Folder' or just now it's gone nowhere! To confuse matters even more, the footage has even gone direct to iMovie 08 as it should do but only on two rare occasions. The guy at VideoPier seems to be at to loss to know why I have this problem. Is there anyone out there who can help me.....please?

That's why I said 'reportedly.'
I think you are correct. I, too, am suspicious of a difference, and I also downloaded version 6.0.4. I did the download as soon as I saw it on Apple's site after getting my new iMac.
I did have the prior iM6 version that I ported over from my old iMac, too. I am sure that I transferred all my old stuff before downloading 6.0.4, but I didn't run into any problems with it not installing.

When I try to use iSight with iMovie and it says no camera available in iMovie '08

iSight won't connect in iMovie... HELP! I found an article regarding the issue but I think the version of iMovie was different than what I have because it really did me no good.

Here are my suggestions for your iMovie '08 problem.
One of them will resolve your trouble. Try them in
any order you like, testing camera function after
each one until you have found the one that worked.
• If you have not already done so, restart Mac and
    try again. A simple restart often clears up minor
    issues, including yours.
• I am using iMovie '11 with no problems. Some
   problems have been reported with the iMovie 9.06.
   However, I can't find compatibility info for ver 8.
   If possible, consider updating to this latest iMovie:
    http://www.apple.com/ilife/imovie/
• Try Apple's http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090
   suggestions. The specific "reset" procedure suggested
   there for your particular MBP model often restores normal function.
(Apple has changed the built-in camera's name on newer Macs from "iSight" to "FaceTime" and then to "FaceTime HD." Regardless of the name of your built-in camera, the same info and troubleshooting applies.)
• Use your Mac's Disk Utility to repair permissions and then
   download and apply the latest Combo Update, for your Mac OS,
   the current one is at: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1581
    (yes, use this Combo even though you are already running 10.8.2)
Repair permissions again immediately following the system restart that completes the Combo update.   Then check whether your Mac's  > Software Update... menu command tell you that other updates are needed. If so, apply them and finish with another permissions repair.
• If you still have problems after properly applying the Combo,
   try OS X's Recovery feature http://www.apple.com/macosx/recovery/
   to repair your hard drive or, if all else fails, reinstall a fresh copy of OS X.
• Properly applying the latest Combo update or repairing or
   reinstalling OS X can usually correct software problems.
   However, if your trouble is caused by a hardware problem,
   there are no user serviceable parts of your webcam.
   For hardware help, contact an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service.
