Help, vector files pixilated

I have a problem trying to upload a vector logo created in
illustrator and saved as gif file to preserve transparency. But it
turns out pixiliated not just on the web but also in illustrator.
With transparency it should work fine, and has before but the file
becomes pixilated -

Any ideas how to solve this please?
Cheers

well, you need to understand the difference between vector
and raster images
and how they deal with transparencies. Simply put, your
vector file is
really just a bunch of math - nodes define points that have
lines or bezier
curves between them. If they're closed objects, they can
contain a fill
color, but again, that's all still just math stuff that gets
translated to
the screen and gets retranslated when you zoom in/out. The
vector files are
non-lossy.
Raster files, which are any bitmaps, are mosaics, and
depending on the file
format, they're lossy. Each pixel must have a defined color.
If in your
working file (say a PSD, CPT, or Fireworks PNG) you have a
bunch of
objects/layers, the curves of said object are simulated by
varying the
transparency of individual pixels to show the color of the
layer
below/background. This is called anti-aliasing and is
necessary because when
you're dealing with something that is just a mosaic of square
tiles, there
can be no angles other than right angles (90 degrees).
Anything other than
90 degrees must be simulated.
The GIF format can do transparency two ways: by a single
specific color or
via a mask (and really the mask just basically then makes the
masked area
black and uses that single color for the transparency color).
Lets say in
your original file your background color is lime green and
your object is a
neon orange circle and you select the green as your
transparency color. That
*single* shade of green will be transparent, BUT since a GIF
must be
"flattened", i.e. no layers, the anti-aliasing of the "round"
angles of the
circle (which are of varying transparent levels) are showing
quite a few
more shades of green and that will give you that "halo" of
another color -
there's no escaping that, really.
Your options are to make the background color of the GIF file
the same color
as the background of your web page (and if you are changing
background
colors left and right, well, you would need to make GIF files
for each one
of those colors), or you could save the file off as a PNG
which has the
ability to handle an alpha mask and do true transparency.
However, you'll
have to do some browser conditional hacks for IE versions 6
and below to see
this transparency.

  • How to use vector file without adobe illustrator?? please help

I am using the free trial period of adobe illustrator to creat a logo.  I don't want to buy illustrator b/c I don't plan on using the program for anything else,  I would like to save my logo in some kind of vector format so I can use it for lots of different printing options.  But I can't figure out how to do this b.c my computer won't open the file without illustrator.  Is there anyway to creat a usable print friendly logo without buying illustrator? Thanks for any help!

I believe if you export it to wmf or emf you will have a Vector file that can be used in word or powerpoint and can be placed in other programs as can ai files which can be placed in word or powerpoint documents as vector files.
Flash (swf) is another way of saving it and it is also vector.
However even though you say you will never have use for Illustrator which is what I thought in 1995 when I use it to create a logo, I soon found more use for it and every year since have found a project that has rewarded me many times the cost of the application once I had purchased it. Most of which I never thought I had the need for and probably would not have even made the attempt to make the effort and the profit if I did not own the license.
And every time I say to myself what do i have this application for the opportunities arises yet again.
I thought I would share my experience with you.

  • Help converting Fireworks CS3 to Illustrator CS2 (vector file)

    Hello,
I have a customer trying to send artwork that he created in Fireworks CS3 that I need to have in some sort of Vector file.
It appears that Fireworks CS3 can only save an AIv8 file. When doing this, it loses its shading and some (I believe) objet styles when opening the file in AI CS2.
Is there any insight on how to do this?
    Thanks,
    Josh.

  • Separating an image from a vector file in illustrator

I cannot figure out how to separate a graphic from a a vector file I purchased on Shutter Stock which has a bunch of graphics in the file used for design.  The file has layers, and I have tried to select just one of the layers to copy and paste into a new AI file, but it doesn't work.  Nothing seems to be grouped together, and I have no idea how to tell if there is a compound path or not.
I need to separate all the images and then resize them as well.  Then I want to export to a jpeg file so that I can use in photoshop and/or publisher.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I have been looking online for help for days, and I cannot find anything that will help me.
    Thanks,

  • What are my options for opening EPS files in Elements 13? What is the best way to convert these to another type of vector file?

I "upgraded" from Photoshop Elements... uh... mad old... to Elements 13 when my work computer got "upgraded" to Win8. Now I can't open EPS files which is how I receive collateral from our ad agency. What other vector files will work, and how can I convert EPS to these? Please be gentle if this is a stupid question - I know enough to be dangerous, but I'm not an expert at design by any means. I'm just frustrated because this isn't quite the "dead" file type that Adobe thinks it is. What was the point of upgrading if I'm pretty much left in the lurch?
Thanks to any and all who can help! Much appreciated . -ASI

What's important to understand is that Elements is a 'pixel' editor, not a 'vector' editor. As such, it has very limited 'vector' capacity (fonts, shapes...) What you are missing from older versions is the ability to convert vector items to standard pixel image file. To be able to open and work on eps files, you'd need Adobe Illustrator, which seems overkill for your purpose.
    So, your options are:
    - to request your ad agency to supply pdf format images instead of eps ones. My guess is that eps is beeing largely superseded by pdf, but I am not sure...
    - Use external tools to convert from eps to jpeg; a Google search would return free softwares like Irfanview or web based conversion.
    - You might want to keep (or reinstall) older Elements versions just for that purpose.

  • Why do my vector files rasterize when I make a contact sheet in Bridge? How can I change quality?

I am trying to make multiple vector files (Adobe Illustrator) into a PDF contact sheet. In doing this through the Output function of Bridge, the vector files are rasterized into a fuzzy, low resolution versions. I'm able to change the quality of the PDF itself; however, that does not affect how the vector files are rasterized. I can't seem to find any way to change this. I can make a contact sheet in InDesign or rasterize these things myself in Photoshop, but I thought Bridge was suppose to help "bridge" some of these functions and save some time. Has anyone found a workaround or some hidden quality box that I'm missing?

Read this one, has screenshots of directories where you should be.  http://forums.adobe.com/message/6032961#6032961?tstart=0#6032961

  • Motion 3 and animating vector files using match move

I'm having trouble animating a vector file using MatchMove. The problem is the vector file (Ai file exported as PDF and imported into Motion3) becomes rasterized when is moves. I have Fixed resolution unchecked and i changed the Pixel Aspect Ratio to NTSC from Square. Nothing seems to help. I even recreated the vectore file in Motion using the bezier tool and got the same results. What am I doing wrong on this?

Could you post the project with your Motion shape? I don't have a problem using the Match Move behavior with vector graphics.
Is the vector graphic in it's own group? Does that group have a box around the status icon in the name? If it does, then the group is being rasterized for some reason.
You can look through the groups parameters to find the one that has a blue dot next to it. This will be the parameter causing the rasterization.
That's the only thing I can think of right now that could be causing your problem.

  • Indesign pain when placing vector files

    Hi All,
    I need some help!!
I'm working on a fairly large catalogue where there is 300+ vector files placed into the Indesign document. As I place more I'm finding Indesign just get slower and slower. GRRRR!!!!! Even when I copy and past an image I have to wait. I'm sick of seeing that bloody beach ball.
    I'm running CS5.
Am I doing something wrong? Is it just a case of Indesign not being able to handle that many .ai files???
PLEASE HELP. Because it's doing my head in!
    umit.

Well I'd stop copy and pasting illustrator into inDesign straight away. That can introduce problems. I'm not a fan of that workflow, others are, but I don't recommend it.
Placing the files is the preferred method
    ==========================================================
What version of InDesign are you using?
If it's CS5 or later go to Preferences> Interface and change the Live Screen Drawing to Delayed
    See if that helps
    ==========================================================
Also go to View>Display settings and choose "Typical".
    ==========================================================
File size might be causing slowness issues due to overhead in the indesign file.
Try doing a File>Save As and save it as a new file name.
    ==========================================================
If that doesn't fix it then I'd try
    File>Export>InDesign Markup Language (IDML)
When you open that exported file in INdesign it will open as Untitled
That might speed up the flow

  • Saving a drawing as vector file?

I am new to Adobe Ideas--how can I save a drawing as a vector file? or a PDF that is editable in Illustrator CS6?

In the Ideas organizer view, tap the settings icon on the top right, and then tap "My Account". If you are not signed in yet, sign in there using your Adobe ID and password. Once you're signed in, tap the "Close" button at the bottom to return to the organizer view.
Tap the Creative Cloud icon in the top right and turn on "Sync files". This should start synchronizing your files with your Creative Cloud account. A file will be marked with a check mark once it is synchronized. (Unfortunately, the current sync back-end server is not the most robust, so if you have trouble getting some files synchronized, try turning sync off and on again. We are working on improving this situation.)
On the desktop, open a web browser to "http://creative.adobe.com". Sign in with the same Adobe ID and password. Click the "Files" link on the lefthand side under the "Assets" section. You should see your synchronized files there. Click on the file you're interested in. Then, click on the Actions button and select "Download". Choose the "original" format. Once it is downloaded onto your desktop, you should be able to drag the file onto Illustrator and see the vectors and layers preserved.
    Hope that helps,

  • Vector File for Web

I am having trouble keeping the quality of my vector file when I save for web. I need an image that is 100px x 100px and when hovered over on the webpage, zooms. Can you help me out with how I should save the vector image (eps) so it will keep the quality at a small pixel size? See example on link...www.theram.com/jquery/jquery_hover_zoom/jquery_hover_zoom/indexPractic e.html
    Thanks!

You save the large size, then scale that for the non-hover state.
So you want a 200x200px image. Then use jquery to reduce that to 100x100px for the non-hover state.

  • Vector file - newb question

After reading the user manual, I still don't understand how this works. Let's say I use Adobe Illustrator to draw a picture of sayyyyyyyy.......a kitty. Is there any possible way to take my kitty picture, export it out of illustrator as a vector file and import it into Motion so that motion can scale that image more or less indefinitely and maintain the crystal clear image no matter what the size. Like, can I zoom in on kitty's eyeball in Motion and still have the image look good?
Sorry for the newbie question but I just have not worked with vector images much. Thanks for any help.

The answer is yes. All you do is save the file as .ai or .pdf, bring it into Motion, and turn off fixed resolution for the underlying media (import the file to the Canvas, select it in the Media tab of the Project Pane, select the Media tab of the Inspector, and uncheck Fixed Resolution). You can now scale it as large as you wish with no loss of resolution.

  • Appending vector files to unit tests

    Hi,
Can anyone please help me with the test generation module? Though the VIs are working successfully when run,  their test files are showing as VI failure. What can bethe probable causes of this? After w have appended the vector file to the tests , how can we make sure that it is running successfully?

I'd imagine this is happening to you because they are in the "Dependencies" section of your project file (*.lvproj). Is this correct?
If so, you should add them to your project file somewhere. Then you will be able to prevent them from being installed. In my experience LabVIEW grabs files it thinks are nesecary from the Dependencies list and installs them in a support directory.

  • Photoshop Vector files

    Hello,
I'm learning Photoshop with Photoshop 7 and Illustrator (of the same vintage).
When designing a logo, the usual advice is to use Illustrator as it supplies a vector file and it can be easily rescaled for commercial print work.. But doesn't Photoshop also have vector tools (eg., shapes and vector drawing tools)?
The logo I'm creating will use Photoshop shapes and drawing tools.
So, can I use Photoshop a for a logo I'm designing for commercial printing and occasional re-sizing?
    Thanks for your help.

  • Viewing vector files in Adobe Bridge

I currently us "Art Expolsion" for vector files.  I use to be able to view the actual thumbnail images in Bridge, but all I see now is the Icon.  How can I change the view so I can see the actual image instead of open them one up at a time?

You should be able to see a small low res thumb, to see the whole art in high res, save your file with the option "pdf compatible"
