HELP! Vertical Lines and Can't Use Half of My Screen. What is Wrong???
Ok, this is really frustrating. Please read first.
I did not spill anything or drop my MacBook. A week ago, it was fine. And then I picked it up and opened it to check something, and my screen was SCREWED. Nearly half of the screen is filled with colorful, vertical lines. Between the lines is filled in with white. I can't see anything underneath and makes it so difficult to use my MacBook.
I don't know what is wrong. I called some places and some say it might be the video card, while a few say it may be the screen. I'm thinking of going to Best Buy since it's closer just to see what is up.
I purchased my MacBook in 09 and never had a problem. The warranty is gone. If it is internal, there is no way I'm paying/can afford $700+ and I'll have to downgrade for a PC I just don't understand what went wrong... can anyone help me save my Mac?? Does it sound internal or a screen issue?
I also took a pic with my phone of my Mac when it's on screensaver mode if that helps...

I'm sorry to hear about your troubles
Here are a few possibilities:
1) The display itself is bad.
2) The inverter cable is bad.
3) The video card is failing.
Do you have your install discs? If so, try booting up from your install disc to see if the same issue shows up. If you have the adapter that will allow you to connect your MacBook to an external display, you could try that as another troubleshooting step.

Novice Mac userHi babowa, OS X Lion is not compatable with Apple USB external modem as sated on other threads and on Apple support. My land line company is Frontier and they do not offer DSL service. Believe me I have been checking with them every 2 months for the last 2 years and I keep hearing its not slated for your area yet.
I do have an ethernet port on my MB but only a standard phone jack on my wall so a ethernet cable wouldn't do me any good.
When I bought my MBP a couple of weeks ago I said I only had dial up internet connection and the store personell said I needed a "56k to USB adapter" which they didn't sell but I could pick up at Best Buy. They had one for $50 (I forgot the brand) but I didn't want to shell out the money until I knew for sure thats what I needed and because of their return policy. like I said I'm a novice so maybe I'm confused on the terminalogy. Is the "56k USB adapter" the same as an external modem?

While accessing PAGES on my 27" iMAC computer, then screen suddenly displayed thick green vertical lines and then went to a whitish grey screen. Each time I shutdown and turn back on it shows the same thing and then goes to a blue screen. The last time I rebooted and I came to this site to try to problem solve. Any idea?
It sounds like a GPU problem, but I am not sure. Try booting in AHT (Apple Hardware Test) to be sure. Also, if you have another Apple computer, try to boot the other computer with the hard drive from the iMac using target disk mode. While booted on your imac's hard drive, check console for kernel panic logs. Paste only Kernel panic logs not application crash logs here please.

If your Powerbook's serial number (do not post it here) starts with "W8" then the vertical lines are mostly likely due to a defect in the display itself. W8 is a factory code and, during the iMac G5 and PowerBook G4 timespan, that factory shipped thousands of units with the same defect. It cannot be fixed via software.
As all PowerBooks are now classed as "obsolete," an Apple Store will not work on it. They will look at it ands tell you it has vertical lines and that they cannot fix it. This Apple article shows Apple devices they curently considered obsolete:

It is possible that some Apple Authorized Service Providers (AASP) will still work on older computes but they cannot get neededparts from Apple. As this issue was so pervassive, it wil be hard for you or an AASP to find a used/pulled display that is not effected with the "W8 Curse."
Although I love the old PowerBooks, I would not even spent the money for disks, much less the US$150-400 it would cost to replace the display, even should one be available.
If you give us a rough idea of where you are in the world, we can suggest repair shops specializing in fixing older Mac notebooks, but be aware those resources may be rather scare outside North America. -
why when I want to take photo , the camera will appear such pink colour vertical line and become black and the video just can record 1 min only ? why ? is that any problem ?
are you using the iOS camera? if you do, visit your apple store for further help, sounds like a hardware problem.
or:
hold home and lock button pressed until your iphone restarts.
if that didn't help, visit your apple store.
if you are not using the iOS camera, delete that app. -

I believe the first line should have read Use 40 black 1 pixel x 400 pixel vertical lines, and create an experimental composition using varying vertical > horizontal spacing.
One way (she may be following this thread, you know) would be to:
1) create a horizontal/vertical (composition Three/Four) line with the Pen Tool with a length corresponding to the whole composition and two or more Anchor Points, ShiftClickDragging at each with different lengths of the Handles;
2) Create a vertical/horizontal line by ClickDragging with the Line Tool (or just Click with the Line Tool and set the Length and direction, then move a copy (ShiftAlt/OptionDrag the original, start dragging a tiny bit before you press the keys);
3) Object>Blend>Blend Options, set Spacing to Specified Steps, 38 steps;
4) Select the lines from 2) and Object>Blend>Make;
5) Select both the Blend from 4) and the line from 1) and Object>Blend>Replace Spine.
Other ways include creating the first line and then ShiftAlt/OptionDragging to create the other lines up/down/left/right depending on composition, or creating or all the lines (maybe using the blend) and then ShiftClickDragging individual lines. -
I have an iPhone 6 with IOS 8.1.3. When I go to the landscape view in Safari, the bookmark page appears and takes up one half of the screen. How can I get rid of the bookmark page so I can use the whole screen to what I am browsing?
OOPS! Too quick on the trigger to ask that question without trying anything. Sorry. Solved it by touching the bookmark icon.

If you did not purchase it from an authorized distributor, then there is no way to tell short of trying a different SIM. Even then, it may have been hacked to unlock it.
That's a risk you take when you buy from the gray market. -
I wanted to update my software this morning and it has turned into a nightmare. I continue to receive the error 1604, which is related to a usb port. I followed all the steps listed in support and nothing has helped. I just plugged in my printer cable to the usb port and it works fine, yet I continue to receive this error and can't use my phone!
A printer does not require power, and does not transfer large amounts of data. So that is not a valid test. It's like saying "if I plug a nightlight into an outlet it works fine, so why do 2 hair dryers on at the same time trip a circuit breaker?"
Are you using a port directly on the computer, and not a hub? If it's not a laptop and it has ports on front and back are you using a back port, which can supply more power?
Have you EVER used this computer to hack or jailbreak ANY iPhone (not necessarily the one with the problem? Or used a program to downgrade the version of iOS on any phone? -

Try to reset it. just press hold the on/off botton (ignore the red slider) just hold it then the ipad is automatically reset. dont worry about your file, there nothing happen to it. Godbless.

No it is not. iPhones, like all cell phones are not locked to countries. They are locked to carriers.
Only the carrier to whom the device is locked can unlock it. Contact the carrier. -
So, I dropped my phone today on the cement, it works...with minor annoying glitches, has nasty bluish vertical lines and the picture is a tad distorted as well. :/ Does this mean I need to spend tons of money to get this fixed? Ahhhh! Help!
