Help. Vertical lines on mini ipad!
Obviously, setting up an appointment with an "Apple Genius" is the best route, but has anyone had a similar issue? What was the result?
Thanks,
Mark
Took ipad into Apple. She spent 30 seconds looking at it, plugged in my serial #, and then gave me a new ipad. She didn't know the exact cause of the vertical lines, but she did inspect the ipad and said she didn't see any visual damages to the exterior, so she was able to replace it under warranty. It did not count against my 2 ($50) replacements under Apple Care+.

Unless Apple determines this is a hardware defect or they make an exception if caused by accidental damage, Apple will not help you as in exchanging or repairing the iPad for free.

Help using itunes in mini ipad
Hi,
I have bought $200 itunes and am trying to use them on a new mini ipad, but it asks for my credit card security 3 digit code to proceed.
I no longer have the credit card, what can I do?
ThanksWell you're not alone in getting surprised by that Mac requirement. Apple has never much flinched about backward compatability. Their new OS's often leave the past completely behind, unlike Windows which tries to keep old things running through the updates (which isn't always a good thing, mind you). Apple's MO makes for a cleaner, more stable transition but it does force you to make decisions. Get the latest and abandon old programs, or soldier on with the old ways and forget about using anything new. I think you'll be glad you chose to upgrade. I just wish Apple (as well as Microsoft) would make these ultimately necessary upgrades cheaper!

What is the white horizontal line and red vertical line on my brand new ipad mini?
Bought a brand new ipad mini 2 for my sons Christmas, took it out the box and it was during the set up process, ie entering his iTunes and icloud account, a white horizontal line and a red vertical line appeared on the screen and is there all the time now. Have tried switching off and on and resetting, but it is still there. Any ideas??
Hi Tolmivooz,
So the lines didn't appear until you were into the setup?
Does the orientation of the lines change when you rotate the screen?
Thanks for trying the restart and reset. Please see if a restore helps.

I have a PowerBook G4 17" and need Apple discs to set it up again. Mine lost during move. Screen seems damaged, has vertical lines. Can anyone help. I can call as I have unlimited calling on my iPhone 6 anywhere in North America.
king,
If your Powerbook's serial number (do not post it here) starts with "W8" then the vertical lines are mostly likely due to a defect in the display itself. W8 is a factory code and, during the iMac G5 and PowerBook G4 timespan, that factory shipped thousands of units with the same defect. It cannot be fixed via software.
As all PowerBooks are now classed as "obsolete," an Apple Store will not work on it. They will look at it ands tell you it has vertical lines and that they cannot fix it. This Apple article shows Apple devices they curently considered obsolete:
Vintage and obsolete products - Apple Support
It is possible that some Apple Authorized Service Providers (AASP) will still work on older computes but they cannot get neededparts from Apple. As this issue was so pervassive, it wil be hard for you or an AASP to find a used/pulled display that is not effected with the "W8 Curse."
Although I love the old PowerBooks, I would not even spent the money for disks, much less the US$150-400 it would cost to replace the display, even should one be available.
If you give us a rough idea of where you are in the world, we can suggest repair shops specializing in fixing older Mac notebooks, but be aware those resources may be rather scare outside North America. -
I have vertical colored lines appearing on the Mini Ipad screen
I have vertical colored lines appearing on the Mini Ipad screen
I had the same problem with my first gen ipad mini. The solution was not to do a hard reset, but instead to push the sleep/off button until the red slider appeared, then slide to OFF. Wait a few seconds then push the sleep/home button until the Apple logo appeared. The lines were gone. I called Apple Support and they wanted $19 to troubleshoot over the phone and $99-$199 to bring to the nearest Apple store. This may not be a permanent fix, but it resolved the issue. I purchased my ipad mini from a local electronics store in May of this year. Believing it to be new and still under warranty I called the AppleCare store and discovered that it had "previously" been purchased in November a year ago and was no longer in warranty. As stated, I've had the device since May and it has worked wonderfully until today when I turned it on and it had colored vertical lines displayed on the screen. The lines would change color at times and even became a solid black stripe. The strange thing was that when taking a screen shot the lines were not noticeable and didn't show up on the picture. The Customer Care support tech told me to search other display issues. On one of the support threads it had something to do with videos/video apps and that is where I saw to do the SLIDER OFF. It worked even when the hard RESET had not.

A single vertical line, please help! :)
Hi,
I have a PowerBook G3 Pismo and a pink vertical line just randomly appeared on the screen and I can't get rid of it? Somebody please help and tell me what to do here. It just happened and nothing changed hardware/software wise on the machine.
Thanks!Thank you for your help. This would be one of my older Macs...I have a new iMac as my workstation/server, 3 iMac G3's iMac G4, iMac G5, eMac, Mac Mini, PowerBook G4, 2 iBook G4s, iBook G3, MacBook, MacBook Pro...I think that I could live with the line on the screen, but it would be nice if I could replace the whole display/ribbon cable assembly to make it even better. I upgraded the entire machine inside and out except for the display and when I finished..I turned it on and it was fine..about 3 weeks later a pink line appeared...seems that it could be a simple pinched/broken cable? Who knows, but I wish I could connect it to an external monitor..missing that VGA adapter..thanks though..I wonder why it randomly appeared when the display hinge was rarely opened/closed..any ideas why it is only a single line and not multiple? I showed it to my friend who is into tech and he believes that that particular column of pixels are simply dead..appreciate it..

why when I want to take photo , the camera will appear such pink colour vertical line and become black and the video just can record 1 min only ? why ? is that any problem ?
are you using the iOS camera? if you do, visit your apple store for further help, sounds like a hardware problem.
or:
hold home and lock button pressed until your iphone restarts.
if that didn't help, visit your apple store.
if you are not using the iOS camera, delete that app. -

Does anyone have a fix for vertical lines on the ad screen?

If I use an adapter (female VGA to mini-DVI) for my iMac 10.4.11 OSX, I also need a cable. Should that cable be female VGA to male VGA?
Permanent vertical lines have appeared on my display, and connecting to another display (monitor) requires a cable and adapter. I want to be sure I am purchasing the correct cable for the Apple adapter. What made me think I need to format if I upgrade the OS?
I just presumed so really.
What made me think I need to constantly format computer with my problem?
Well, after many attempts to repair the drive, which fails, cannot even reach the log in screen, I am left with no other choice?
And also, I have to note now, System Preferences keeps crashing without reason, it either takes ages to load, just by clicking it to open, or clicking something within it, or it just crashes.
And temporarily, it freezes the computer totally, with no response.
Seriously, am I missing a system file or something? Anyone experienced this problem before?
My computer is literally a blank computer right now, installed VLC and Shades, updated Adobe Flash Player, installed Skype and Adium. I would say Growl from Adium caused it, but it has happened prior to Skype and Adium. Any ideas anyone?
Thanks,

When I was typing an email on my iPad, I hit some part of the screen (not sure which part !)which made the type in the paragraph I was writing turn blue, and a vertical line appeared down the left hand boundary of the paragraph ! How do I get rid of the blue type and blue vertical line ?
A single tap of the blue does nothing ! A double tap offers copy, define, select all.

Please help, I can't find face time and Siri icon on my mini ipad? Just bought it I have the IMessage icon and is able to use it.
There is no Siri "icon". You access Siri using the Home button. But you may need to turn it on: Settings App > General > Siri. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4992
Same for the FaceTime function (but if it is ON, there will be an icon): Settings App > FaceTime > [turn it on and set you Apple ID. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4319 -
Hi guys, please help me. my son's mini ipad cannot be unlocked because the touchsreen is not responding.. help please. thank you.
A reset should help. Tap and hold the Home button and the On/Off buttons for approximately 10-15 seconds, until the Apple logo reappears. When the logo appears, release both buttons.
No content is affected by this procedure. -
Vertical Lines!! Kernal Panics !!!! Please Help
Hi this is my first post to the forums. I thank you all in advance for answers. I have an IMAC 24'' 3.06 GHZ 4GB RAM that is displaying some weird characteristics. The first is the lines from left to right that are vertical. The first set is 4 lines then sets of 3. This is happening all across the screen. I have a W8 serial and saw something about defected computers is this true? I have the Applecare extended for 430+ more days and I already had a crash on the HD. Now I am having more problems. The lines worried me the most, but also I am receiving Kernal Panics. I can't even get the computer to load up. I spoke with Applecare over the phone and they referred me to the store. I got sent away twice before they finally got my computer in the store. I have now been to the store three times this week alone. Most importantly is the vertical line issue a permanent issue? I purchased the unit in July of 2008. I hope my unit is not defective. Now they are telling me they are going to replace the Logic Board as well as HD. They said this time it wasn't an HD issue but they are going to replace the HD to placate me since I have been there three times this week. The new HD is 640GB. Original is 500. If the HD is not bad are they truly accomodating me or is it deceptive practices to hide their constant issues with the CPU. I just want to find out why they are causing me to do all of this running around. I have spent over 5 hours on Phone with Applecare. I worry if this computer is going to be a recurring problem. Are the vertical lines symptoms of other issues down the road. My confidence is slowly eroding. I will give the full serial If that helps. Thanks!
Sincerely,
Adam('s Apple)How do I get to Customer Relations?
Just call 1-800-275-2273 and asked to be transferred to ACR. CALMLY explain the situation to them and have all your case numbers ready. If you don't get satisfaction with the first call, call back and talk to another rep. I went through 3 of them one time, but Apple came through in the end to my satisfaction. They will do what it takes to make you happy.

in the midst of photo shoot yesterday, this vertical line pattern appeared in every photo and can't get rid of it. Triple checked all my settings, nothing's changed about how I take my photos.
Through the viewfinder when I prefocus I see the result of what my photo should look like after the shot, but after I take it, the shot is 50% lighter, with a horrible pattern of lines. Has my camera totally died? Does anyone know what I can do to fix this? I cannot take photos anymore with this all time favorite camera of mineFirst try a complete reset if possible, I can't see it being the memory card but if you have a spare one try that.
One cause could be the sensor or the display itself, I've had faulty ribbon cables going to the display on TV sets causing similar problems.
I take it they are in the same place on every shot. What does a good photo show up like, i.e., one prior to this fault showing? This would point to the sensor or display, since the photo was taken previous to the fault it 'would' eliminate the sensor as this is only used when taking photos and not when 'viewing'.
Pity you couldn't post a sample as it *may* help.
