Help! Video plays fine in organizer, shows up red in sceneline
Hi there -- I'm new to premiere elements 8 and I'm trying to include a video clip in a sceneline. It's an .MP4 file from a digital still camera that also shoots video (a sony cybershot). When I look at the video clip in elements organizer, it shows up fine and plays with both audio and video. Looks great. Then I go to premiere elements and try to drag the video to the sceneline or to even click on the video clip for it to play. The video shows up as a block of red -- no image other than solid red. The audio still plays, but all I'm seeing is red (literally and figuratively at this stage...very frustrating). Anyone know why this might be happening or what can be done to fix it? In pre, the video can be seen in the media section on the right of the screen. But it turns red as soon as I drag it to the sceneline or click on it to play.

First, update to the latest version of Quicktime from Apple.com.
Then go to the ATI or nVidia sites and make sure you have the latest drivers for your video card.
It's possible this may fix it (depending on which camera it came from and how your system is set up. But, if it doesn't, you may need to convert the video file to a more standard format.
I'd recommend you convert that .mp4 to another format before you bring it into Premiere Elements. Video from still cameras usually does need to be converted before Premiere Elements can work with it.
The best program for converting mp4s is Quicktime Pro, which sells for $29 on Apple.com. It will convert it to a DV-AVI (if you're working on a standard definition project) and I believe it will also convert it to a HDV-quality MPEG (if you're working on a project for BluRay).

Green screens are almost always indicative of a video driver issue. Could you please post the contents of your "Display Devices" section after generating a DXDiag report?

Windows 7, no sound, videos play fine. just no sound
Hey guys ive been trying for days to fix the problem with flash, i get no sound on the internet. all my system sound is there, ect windows sounds game sounds. i use both IE exporer and firefox both of which can not get sound from flash videos, although the video plays fine, just with no sound. i tryed K-Lite Codec Tweak Tool , but that didnt work. im using ver 10.1 of flash. the whole probelm started when i upated to flash v10. up from 9. i will inculde my system sepcs at the bottom. any suggestions would be great.

I recently purchased a movie on my iPad. I can't sync the movie to any of my computers. I can play the video on my iPad(1) but can not play it through my AppleTV(2) via AirPlay. All other videos on my iPad, play fine. Any suggestions?
Yes, I've done this. Even signed in and out and went through and disconnected and reconnected all related devices. All other video works over air play, but still comes up with apptv not authorized to play this content for this one video.

No sound on The Daily Show videos, video plays fine
I have no problem play video with sound in all web sites (like U-Tube, MSNBC, NY-Times, etc.). Only in Comedy Central the videos play properly but no sound.
This happened once before and I was able to restore sound after uninstalling QuickTime. Now, after updating to FF 13.0, no sound only in Comedy Central web site. I don't have QuickTime installed now, so I have no idea where the conflict is coming from.
Here are some things I tried:
Started FF in safe mode
Removed AdBlock and FlashBlock
Cleared Cache and cookies
Uninstalled and reinstalled Java, Adobe Flash
Tried Chrome and IE tab in FF
I even installed Quicktime and then uninstalled it, just to see whether uninstalling QT will help.
Nothing worked. I have no problem in any other site, only the Comedy Central videos have no sound, that too only after upgrading to FF 13.0
Thankful for any useful suggestion ....Try to clear the Flash local storage and settings or at least the settings for the Comedy Central website.

Video plays fine in iTunes / only plays audio in iPod
I put an MPG4 movie into iTunes and it plays fine in iTunes. After syncing it into my iPod, I find that it plays the sound but not the actual video and it shows a tiny still of the video where the album cover usually goes.
Please help.What type of iPod are you using? You've posted in the "iPod with color display" section, this model isn't designed to play video content. Captured Animation suddenly small, yet the video plays fine.
Ok, what the heck is going on here. I captured some video at 469x351 and completed a project which is almost entirely FMV. Earlier this week, I wanted to go back in, and some overlays and do some editing. Big problem, something wierd has happened to the preview of the slides! You can see the white box is still the right dimensions, however, the animation itself is shrunk. What is bizarre is that when I render the entire project it plays fine. But as you can see(first pic), it would not be possible to edit these slides anymore. Is there a feature that needs to be turned off/on? I tried the zoom feature and it is already at 100%. Something must be jacked up in the viewing preferences? Can anyone think of a possibility as to why this is happening to all my slides? It even does it to my projects that were recorded at 800x600. So strange, bug maybe? Notice the captured images are just fine. (second pic)

Well, it appears I am completely dead now. I deinstalled flash using the deinstaller, but now I can't even get any version of Flash to reinstall because I keep getting this same message to pop up after I attempt to install it. Um, as far as I know there is no Flash 11 right? I'm telling ya', this is looking more and more like I need to blow out my entire computer and start over,....it just can't seem to get past some kind of player version flag.
At this point, I can't open Captivate and I can't even see any flash enable web sites. Please Help me!!!!!!! Do you know if Adobe has a technical support team that can log in remotely and look at this thing? -
Same mp4 video plays fine from one drive but not recognised from another??
Everytime I drag and copy my MP4 video files from my internal drive to an external one, it then no longer plays from the external drive. The external drive is working fine, and if I render the video directly to that drive, it previews and plays fine. This only happens to MP4 files I copy from internal drive to this external drive
Something seems to happen to the file when I copy and paste it or drag and drop it.
As I drag it I and when it lands in the folder I copied it to, the preview thumbnail is here for a split second, then switches to a regular QT icon - when i try to open it, it then says file format not recognised - even though the exact same file plays fine from the original location on my internal hard drive
This is driving me mad - any ideas - must be something simple?
Any help really appreciatedI used MPEGStreamClip to transcode the audio file to AIFF (over 1500 kbs @ 48khz) with better results. With the iTunes volume set at full and with the volume adjustment option set at 100% (which is 50% above flat), the AIFF file played through iTunes, produces about the same decibels as playing the file through VLC with the VLC volume at full.

I believe some of the problem is with the original file being a bit too quiet to begin with. Putting it into analog terms, it's kind of like a 1 watt pre-amp signal when it needs to be a 4. Do you know of a way to increase the audio output level through the cable box fire wire port so it can be captured at a higher audio level to begin with? -
Video plays fine on QuickTime 7 but fails on QuickTime X
I have a mov file and it plays fine on my old mbp's QuickTime 7. However, on my new mbp's QuickTime X, I get jumbled video playback. Like a bunch of mixed up pixels. Sound is fine, however.
Why would there be a difference? Shouldn't QuickTime X be better than QuickTime 7?Harddrive. This is the file I have -

Hi
I managed to import some small video clips to iMovie 08 using Streamclip (converting to .dv files).
The movies play fine in iMovie - no problems. However when I publish to Mac Web Gallery (I only published "mobile" size), one of the videos always hangs at the same point. The clip starts playing but you can see the clip stop loading and then it stops playing at the exact same point about 3 minutes in.
The Web Gallery says the clip is 4mins 36secs long but it never plays it in full. I've removed from Gallery and republished. I've also deleted the project and started from scratch. Both have failed to cure it.
Also tried it in Firefox 3 and Safari - same result.
Why is Mac Web Gallery struggling to play all the clip?

If you are on version 8.0.6, this is probably due to the use of speed changes like fast motion or slow motion.
If you have speed changes in your project, you need to stick to the pre-set tick marks of 25%, 50%, 100%, 200%, 400%, 800%, etc. If you use a custom percent like 58% or 139%, you will get weird audio behavior in your final product. -
No audio in Quicktime or Frontrow. Video plays fine in VLC.

I have some xvid videos. They play fine in VLC. They don'y play audio in Frontrow or Quicktime. Stream 1 mpga audio codec. I can't find a solution to this. Also have some video off a sony recorder which again will play in VLC but isn't recognised as a movie file has extn .mpg. Audio is a52 and video mpgv. Have looked through forums someone solved this but hasn't given solutions.

Fixing this sort of codec issue with Windows Media Centre would usually take me about 3 days. This took 3 minutes now I have a Mac. -
Video plays fine in quicktime, not so good on the iPod.
I downloaded couple a of tv shows that were already in an .mp4 format and the resolution was already configured so it would play on an iPod without any converting. I dragged and dropped the files and I was ready to start watching. I starting watching my tv show and it played fine for the 1st 30 seconds. Then the playback would freeze for a good 3 to 5 seconds. It would then start playing again, however without sound. The only way I can get sound back is if i rewind the playback a second or 2 and then hit play. The sound will come back for another 30 seconds and then would freeze and loose sound thus continuing the annoying circle. I've taken the original file that I downloaded from BitComent and converted it using videodora and copied it to my pod. Same problem as before. Anyone have any ideas? I just find it odd that quicktime plays it without any problem, but the ipod looses it.
This sounds like a problem with the iPod software, specifically version 1.1. Try this to go back to software version 1.0, which should fix the issue...
Here are more detailed instructions on how to go back to 1.0, especially if you bought your iPod in the last couple of months and it came with 1.1.
First, please download the older version of the iPod Updater here...

Now install that updater and restart your computer.
Now open the iPod updater (Start-->all programs-->iPod and find the iPod updater you just installed
Open the iPod Updater and connect your iPod. With that older version of the iPod updater you just installed, restore your iPod by clicking restore.
The iPod will restore and go back to software version 1.0. Now reload everything back into iTunes.

I run winxp my pc crashed had to reboot. my video files are saved on an external hard drive. they have all played fine in itunes before. the formats are all correct. now i cant get them back into itunes neither drag and drop or add file to itunes works. i checked the files and when you click on them they still play in quicktime. anyone have this??
Repair your QuickTime.
Control Panel > Add n Remove Programs > highlight QuickTime, click CHANGE then REPAIR. -
YouTube video plays fine, but video on some sites does not
Shockwave Flash is set to 'Always Activate' but:
-Some videos on www.eminiaddict.com say that a plugin is needed.
-Videos on www.dickmorris.com are chunky and tiled.
The above two play fine on IE.Thanks for the reply but I have never used QuickTime, nor the plugin.
The problem started when I recently migrated from an XP laptop to a new Win7 laptop, with a new installation of Firefox, using MozBackup to transfer the profile.
I did solve one problem by following the instructions here:
