HELP- Video Sync Prob!!! Why is audio repeating like a never-ending delay?

Hello- I have a modest system: I am using Logic 7.0 on Mac OS 10.3.9,
M-Audio FireWire Solo Audio Interace, NO external sync device. I have just
tried importing a Movie as Float (Quicktime Movie: .mov) and I get this
HORRIBLE repetition of the audio from the video that WON'T stop! Also, ANY
audio that I actually have in the session as well follows this same
repetitive pattern. I have tried EVERYTHING: changing sample rate, frame
rate, (the video is 29.97), bit depth, unchecking 'contiguous sync'. It may
be of interest to note that the speed of the repetition changes when I change the Sample Rate, although this may be unrelated. The video's audio is Sample
Rate of 48k. It also is of interest that if I try and change the system from
Internal Sync Mode to MTC, changing whatever I can find in the Preferences
sections to MTC, I can play the video without the repetition, but only by
pressing play on the VIDEO screen. If I try to press play from the Space Bar
or any of the key commands, (0 or Enter for some users), or Play from the
Transport Window, the repetition occurs as well.... this TV Spot is due
yesterday so I need help NOW! What the **** is going on?!?!?!?! I was told I
don't need to rely on MTC, that I could just use Internal... but that doesn't seem to be right and I still get the above issues with MTC when I try to use it- HELP!!!!!!!

Rohan,
Thank you for responding so quickly!
1. are you using a dv firewire bridge to play back video?
NO- I tried that too- converting my .mov to a .dv and switching to the DV FireWire bridge. Still got the loop.
2. what is the codec of the QT movie file? you can check this with QT by hitting apple-i.
I am not in a place where I can check this now, but I will ASAP.
3. have you tried running logic with built-in audio and then running the video?
I take it by Built-In, you mean something different than the "Core Audio" I am running from now? If so, then no, I have not. I will try this if I can figure it out- thank you!
4. are you running the sound playback of the video through the interface?
Yes- all sound playback is running through the audio interface. Otherwise I would have to take the Audio out from the headphone jack in the back of the G4 and send that straight to my speakers.
Thanks! I will send more info when I can get back to my studio!

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  If you are out of authorizations but only have 1 computer, deauthorizing all computers and reauthorizing your correct computer might be a good idea.  See this article for instructions:

  • Why Wont Apple Fix AUDIO / VIDEO Sync Issues

This has been a problem for awhile. Thank god there is a application fix but im receiving an iTouch very soon and I'm not sure if the same problem is going to be on that to..
It might be how Quicktime reads .MP4 and .M4V Files but i can play the videos on VLC and Zune Software fine..
I see other people posting this exact same problems. I see no answers... Apple Knows this is an issue. Why wont they fix it.
From what im hearing it is the audio that is going out of sync from the video.
    Now my Final Question is
"Is this just a Software issue for the computers or is it also a Software issue (Assuming that quicktime is the software on these devices) for the iTouch / iPhone ?

well i got my itouch today and it seems that the audio and video sync issues are only on the computer distributions of quicktime and not the hand held device versions

  • Regular problem with video playback & audio video sync

So, I am regularly having two problems (I wonder whether they are connected) that I cannot solve and am hoping someone can tell me if I am out of luck or if I need to do something or add something.
For example, because it happened again today. These are details about the file stuff:
    Type:AVI
    Bit Rate:133kbps
    Dimensions:624x352
    Audio format: LameMP3
    Frame rate: 23 frames/second
    Data Rate: 1131 kbps
    Video Sample Size: 12 bit
    Video Compression: XVID
First Problem: If I play the file - I use Media Player Classic - it plays fine. Open it in Windows Media Player and it plays fine. Try to edit it in Premiere and the file loaded into Premiere is filled with what I believe are called audio video sync problems, so I have to constantly unlink audio and video and adjust it. It loads and does not need to conform.
I have the same problem on my laptop(Windows XP Home) and desktop (XP Pro), the desktop with twice the RAM. I have the K-lite Mega codec pack installed. I would call myself a beginner when it comes to video editing. I understand generally what codecs are but I am not capable to making any tweaks to the K-lite Mega codec pack (if I should have) so it is setup as installed.
Second Problem: The video in the playback box never plays back normally. I have tried adjusting the playback settings: have changed the aspect ratio between the software and harware option and adjusted between the three desktop display options. Occasionally it is "ok" but most of the time not and never just normal.
    Any help is much appreciated.
    Thank you.

I tried this already and then we had a blackout so going to try again and hope it goes through before a second one...lol
    Hello:
Thank you Robert J. Johnston, the_wine_snob, Paul_LS and SteveGrisetti for your help so far.
So this is where I am at now:
Files all seem to be of the same type, so I will just say "the file" for the one I am working with right now.
Loaded file into VirtualDub.  I like that program.  Well done, whoever made it.  Did some basic cutting of unwanted stuff.  Saved as AVI.  Saved both a Direct Stream Copy and a Full Processing Copy.
Opened the FP copy in Premiere Elements and it plays without audio sync problems that I can see. Have edited it some so far and still no problems.
Before I do any more editing work, I decided to save it (SHARE) in different formats to see what happens.
Goal: Looking for no audio sync problems.  Best quality I can get with a 1GB file size limit.
Saved as DV-AVI:  plays fine.  no audio sync probelms.  love the video quality.  2.95GB, so too big
Saved as Flash:  Do not see any audio sync problems.  Do NOT like the quality (flips back and forth between clear and all pixely (is that a word).  32 MG
Saved as Mpeg: Media Player won't play it (thought Media Player with KL Mega Codec played everything?) (It loads it but doesn't play?); Quicktime won't play it.  Windows Media Player just did.  Do not see any audio sync problems.  Like the video quality. 631 MB.
Saved as Windows Media: Do not "think" there are any audio sync problems; if there are, they are very subtle.  Not crazy about video quality.  Better than flash video option though still flickers between two types of qaulity (if that makes sense) . 52MB
Any suggestions as to what I should do at this point to meet my stated goal.  I assume [share]ing is what I should do?  Is there any exporting or any other options I do not know about.  Without your help I figure I will Share to MPEG?  Not sure why Media Player won't play it and Windows Media Player will?
Any thoughts on the best choice for me?  Thanks for your help.

  • 'Source play' and 'audio-video sync' problems with PE8 on fast WIN7 64 bit computer

I am transferring Hi8 videos, about 2 hours long, to my WIN7 64 bit computer with PE8.  [Dell Mobile Precision M4400 Computer Workstation (Intel Core 2 Duo T9900 500GB/4GB); NVIDIA Quadro FX 770M, 512MB] I seem to have several problems:
First, after importing the file (.avi), I get a message about ‘dropped frames.’
Secondly, when I try to play the video in the source monitor, the audio plays but the video doesn’t; it only shows the first frame [this is after waiting until the video is ?recognized? ]   I can use the shift-arrow key and see that the video is there.
Thirdly, I can play the .avi file in other players, e.g., avidemux or PE pro CS5 on another computer.  There, I see that the audio and video are not in sync; the audio can be up to 300 ms ahead of the video (as determined using avidemux).
    Questions:
    1.  Why doesn’t the source monitor play the video? Is this a problem with PE8 (latest update as of 3 March 2011) on aWIN7 64 bit computer (intel duo core. 3 GHz).
    2. Is the audio-video sync problem the result of the ‘dropped frames?’ How can PE8 correct this? Avoid this? Or, is it coincidence?

"I think you're telling me you're using a backwards compatible Digital8  camcorder to capture your video as DV-AVIs. Is that right?" YES
"Are you using  Premiere Elements to do this capturing?" YES, AS ABOVE PE8
"Go to the File menu and select Properties. It should show a standard DV codec being used for your video and audio."
WMP v12 is dumb. Under properties, media, it says 'video.'  However, avidemux gave me the information state above: video -- Codec 4CC: dvsd, frame rate: 29.971 fps; audio -- codec: PCM, channels: Stereo, frequency: 48 kHz.
    So, back to the Questions:

  • Why inserting audio creates a gap in my video ?

    Hi,
I try to insert a short audio mp3 bakcground music in my work.
I try to insert it several times because it is short and I need it repeat.
So I insert it once at begining of my work. When I insert it a second time, it will create a gap between the end of previous audio piece, and its own end.
Why on earth does it does this ? Why audio can break video ? This turns me mad, please tell me how can I insert audio files without destroying my video ?
    Thanks,

Are you trying to put it onto the Audio 1 track? If so after the insert (that creates the gap) you will need to break the video/audio link by right-clicking the audio track and selecting 'Unlink Audio and Video'. With the link broken you can then move just the video clips to fill the gap.
If you are not already using the 'Soundtrack' track for something else that would be the better place to add your mp3 clip.

  • System-Wide Audio/Video Syncing

I'm aware of VLC's capability to sync the audio to the video in milliseconds. It's really useful.
However, I've run into an issue where there is a lengthy video online (Flash) that is out of sync. Are there any solutions to syncing the two system-wide (as I doubt there are any browser extensions to do this)?
Now, the tough part is, the video is ahead of the audio. Would this require caching the video for a few milliseconds to allow the audio to catch up?

Please can anyone, who has places a whole movie on their ipod let us know how u did it and how it worked, bcuz i tried converting another moview, and it was a little bttr than the first movie, but there is still a noticeable delay none the less. plz help..

  • Why won't some photos or videos sync to my iPad when they work fine with iPhoto and iTunes?

Why won't some photos or videos sync to my iPad when they work fine with iPhoto and iTunes? Other photos taken with same camera sync fine from iPhoto while certain events are inexplicably incompatible. I've recently foundvthecsame occurrence with certain mp3s and videos from iTunes.

For photos try deleting the photo cache from your computer and then re-try the photo sync and see if they then copy over - the location of the cache, and how to delete it, is on this page http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1314
Not all video formats that work in iTunes are compatible with the iPad - the supported formats are (from http://www.apple.com/ipad/specs/) :
Video formats supported: H.264 video up to 720p, 30 frames per second, Main Profile level 3.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format
Have you tried Advanced > Create iPad Version and then sync those versions to the iPad
The iPad's supported audio formats are :
HE-AAC (V1 and V2), AAC (8 to 320 Kbps), Protected AAC (from iTunes Store), MP3 (8 to 320 Kbps), MP3 VBR, Audible (formats 2, 3, and 4, Audible Enhanced Audio, AAX, and AAX+), Apple Lossless, AIFF, and WAV

  • Having trouble Audio and Video Syncing on iTune

Having trouble Audio and Video Syncing on iTune anyone know how to repair?

    Here are two suggestions:
If everything is pretty much in sync until 17 minutes in, do a re sync every ten minutes.  This should ensure that, even if the sync drifts by a few frames over 10 mins, the video will not seem distinctly out of sync at any time.
Another approach would be to do an overall re-sync in QuickTime Pro (which I believe is part of the FCP package).
You would need to use QTPro to trim, the video file to remove any surplus seconds of material at the beginning and end.  Then open the audio file in QT Pro and trim that if necessary.  It may be a slightly more complicated to do this at the beginning because, if the audio does not come in immediately, you'll need to make sure that you have the right amount of silence at the start of the file to match the video before the audio begins. This should leave you with video and audio files of the same length.
Then, in the drop menus of your QT, select and copy the audio track.  Switching to the QT video file, in the drop down menus, click on add track.
Hope one or other of these May be some help to you.

  • Movies lose audio/video sync as they progress

I've got a lot of old VHS tapes I'm transferring to DVD-R. I play them on my VHS player connected to DAC-100 converter that goes into iMovie. From iMovie I burn the video either with Toast or iDVD. Either way, a lot of the DVD-R's have the audio out of sync with the video, and some don't! They are synced when I play them back in iMovie before burning.Sometimes the sync on the burnt DVD-R is ok at the beginning but slowing goes out of sync so by the end of the video it's way out of sync. So, what's one to do?? I hate to waste the time & discs but it seems there's no way to know for sure how a DVD-R's going to turn out until you burn it and play it.
And, while I'm at it, the latest version of iMovie HD makes the clips all about an hour long. I prefer them shorter(like in the older versions), but I can find no preference to set a length.
    Help!

I have been bitten by the sync problem as well, and have spent most of this week trying to troubleshoot it. FYI, I've been doing video conversion and editing on PC's for years, but recently moved to OSX, a Datavideo DAC-100 (Firewire DV analog capture device) and the iLife tools.
And before anyone asks, I use 16 bit audio capture. I've verified this by looking at the file that are generated. I've also looked at all the iMovie sync FAQ's on the Internet. Audio sync problems and I are old enemies.
    Here's what I've found:
While the video is in it's original DV file captured by iMovie, the audio sync is perfect. I've done a 3 hour capture, and the sync was fine all the way through.
When and where the sync goes bad is when the audio is extracted from the DV file, whether by manually extracting the audio in iMovie, converting the DV to another format (including another DV file), or 'sharing' the movie to iDVD. I belive this is because the DV file format tightly links the audio to the movie timeline. When the audio is extracted, it is associated to the video only by the length (in time) of the two files. And either the audio is slightly time compressed, or the video is slightly time expanded. I suspect the audio is slightly time compressed.
I've created a predictable test case with my video, where i can capture a 15 minute block of video. At the end of the file the audio sync is perfect while in the DV format , and is ahead of the video by about 1.5 seconds after extracted.
A simple workaround would be to use a sound or video editing package that allows you chop the audio when it goes silent and to stretch the remaining audio to match the length of the video. VirtualDub and CoolEdit for the PC used to be able to do this. I've tried doing this with Quicktime Pro with no success, though. I'll keep looking for a decent OSX program to try to do this with.
This does, however, only work around the problem, not identify where it is, or fix it.
I think I've also determined that this is a problem in the standard OSX DV stream capture API, not in the conversion process of Quicktime from DV audio to whatever.
I used BTV Pro (http://www.bensoftware.com/), a shareware/capture tool that can handle DV streams on my test case. The results were EXACTLY the same as under iMovie. I believe that BTV uses OSX's standard APIs for accessing DV streams from firewire.
Additionally, I've extracted the audio from the test DV using a non-apple DV codec (ffmpeg), and reimported it to iMovie and Quicktime. It is identical to the bad sync audio that iMovie extracts.
This leads me to believe that it's a problem with either the DAC-100's DV streams (which is set to the OSX dip switch settings) or OSX's DV capture API.
I then installed Avid Free DV (http://www.avid.com/freedv/index.asp), a free stripped down version of a high end OSX video editing package, and successfully captured the 15 minute test case, exported it to a DV file (using both the AVID and Apple DV codecs), imported the resulting DV file into iMovie, and extracted the audio. The extracted audio synced perfectly with the video in iMovie at this point.
Just to make sure that Avid didn't just 'fix' a bad DV file, I did another test capture from iMovie, and imported the file into Avid Free DV. The resulting video had the expected sync problem, which was expected since Avid uses Quicktime for importing and exporting video.
This points the problem squarely at the Apple capture APIs, as I believe that AVID uses its own. For some reason, the files generated by iMovie/BTV exhibit the sync problems when the audio is extracted in all cases, while files generated by Avid Free DV do not.
I still don't know what the issue is with OSX/iMovie and my DAC-100. I also know that not all DAC-100 users have the problem, nor do all iMovie users with their equipment. This could be a codec incompatibility with the version of firmware on the DAC-100 with OSX, a bug in the cap

  • Final Cut Audio/Video sync issues

Yes, I realize this has been discussed before, but for the life of me I cannot find the answer. So here we go.
    - FC version is 7.0.2
    - OSX is 10.6.3
    - Processor 2.8 Ghz Intel Core Duo 2
    - Memory 4 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
I have used FC before and well acquainted. Recently I took a brush up course and used material provided in a book DVD. Had no issues while practice editing with this material.
Now have material saved I want to edit with. All video is saved on an external and in MOV format. No worries getting in imported in FC. However, every video I use starts to audio slide and by the time it reaches around halfway, full blown out of sync. Not by much, but it's definitely there.
I even took these videos and re-saved them in MOV format and same thing. With all this RAM there should be no need to shut anything down, but I did so. Same thing.
The interesting part is when using the test videos that were supplied on DVD and were imported into the MAC, no worries. Now I AM bringing those videos over from a saved file on the MAC itself, but that should make no difference. When bringing over the external movies into FC, they should react without a hitch.
Here's the fun part. ALL of these videos play perfectly on IMovie. All of them. So this makes me think there's something in the FC settings at work here. Then again, why did it not fault before?
One more thing. I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard and have seen a few glitchy items here and there. But this is the oddest.
Would really appreciate thoughts and suggestions. Frustration is setting in. And thanks

The first thing I'd check is to make sure the audio clip's settings and the FCP Sequence settings match. For example, if you use AIFF 32khz, 12 bit audio in an FCP Sequence set at AIFF 48khz, 16 bit, the audio WILL be out of sync as you describe.

  • Audio/video sync STILL off, even after detaching/extracting audio

So I know it's a well-known problem that the audio and video clips get out of sync upon exporting a movie out of the iMovie application. I also have seen that the solution for this problem is to detach or extract all and any audio clips. I've done this, and I'm still having the problem after exporting my movie (it plays fine in the application).
I detached/extracted my audio clips when I started making my movie, and have been altering them and working with them separately from the video for some time before exporting the movie. Is it possible this has made a difference? I have re-detached the audio multiple times hoping it will solve the sync problem, but with no success
Has anyone else had this problem? I would be so grateful for some help--it's making me crazy!
    Thanks in advance.
    Kyoko

I'm having the same problem. Imported clips from FlipcamHD. Everything plays fine in iMovie. I have titles, video clips that I've added music, and regular video clips with its own audio. It's a nine-minute video. I detached the audio from the clips that have audio and still the sync after export is not working.

  • TIMECODES are important for audio and video sync issues

Hello, just wanted to pass on what I learned so that others can avoid the trouble that I've had to go through. Perhaps this may help someone who is stuck on the launch pad. :)
BOTTOM LINE: Info for the beginner. Audio and video not in sync in Premiere Pro CS3 V3.2.0
PROBLEM: Capture works great it seems. When I go to the folder that contains the captured file and view in Windows Media Player audio and video are in sync. BUT when viewing the video asset in the source and program monitors, the audio and video are not in sync.
    SOLUTION:
Before capturing a tape make certain the following is checked:
    (1) Edit->Preferences->Capture->Use device control timecode
    (2) Edit->Preferences->Device Control->Options->Timecode Format
    (3) Project->Project Settings->General->Video->Display format
As for the devices timecode choose something other than Auto Detect. Then match the project timecode with what was chosen during capture. The projects display format could of course be set to frames.
I searched everywhere for audio and video sync issues in google, adobe forums, F1 help, and hv20.com and everyone was talking about:
    (1) Presets: 1080p30 vs. 1080i30 (60i).
    (2) brakes in the tape where timecode for the audio and video get misaligned during capture.
But choosing the correct hardware settings and timecodes to solve audio and video sync issues never popped up.
    MY HARDWARE: Canon HV30, HDV

    >Audio and video not in sync in Premiere Pro CS3 V3.2.0
Must be an HDV only issue because my synch is always perfect.

  • Major Audio and Video sync Problem

    Hello World of FCP Users,
So heres my issue and I hoping you guys can help me out.
20 Years ago we recorded a play using an old VHS camera. We captured this footage into IMovie 09. The audio of this movie is awful and really hard to hear anything. Everything is too loud.
However, we did record the audio on a cassette deck with amazing sounding audio. The audio sample rate of this in FCP is 44.1 and the audio in imovie (which was later brought into FCP) is 48 khz. We can sync up the audio which looks great but once we play the video back in FCP, it starts off great but then slowly drifts out of sync.
We did however try to resample both audio tracks in Soundtrack Pro but still gave us the same result.
    Any idea here?

The usual answer is to break up the video into segments that are short enough to hide the audio drifting out of sync or short enough to have a reasonable loss of sync, say, 15 frames or so. You are going to apply speed adjustments to the audio tracks to match the video tracks.
If your audio is out of sync at the end by, say 10 seconds, you've got break up the video into about 20 pieces and individually resync each. Unless you can tolerate what might be a noticeable pitch change and then you just adjust the whole clip.
