HELP - Vista won't connect to WRT150N

I just installed a new WRT150N and have Windows XP, Mac OSX, and Linux boxes connecting just fine. The XP and Mac machine's are wireless, the rest are wired. But I have one Vista machine that won't connect wireless. I think it has to do with the SSID which is not showing up correctly on Vista. The router has the default 'linksys' SSID, but on Vista it shows up as just 'li'. I've tried to create a new connection with the correct SSID but can't seem to get rid of the old one or find a way to correct it. Anyone know if this is a known problem and/or how to fix it? Thanks, Steve

For the record I got this working by doing two things...not sure which actually fixed it as I did them both and haven't tried to narrow it down. 1) Upgraded the bios (I'm hoping this is what fixed it) 2) In the wireless settings, changed the Network Mode from 'Mixed' to 'BG-Mixed'. This works for me as I only have G wireless cards at the moment. I haven't tried setting this back to Mixed to see if its just the bios that fixed it. Hope this helps someone else... - Steve

  • Windows Vista won't connect to Airport Express

    Hello,
I have an Airport Express and a PC running Vista which cannot connect. I was temporally able to connect when I switched the Express to transmit "b" only. But now nothing works. Checked the firmware, it's on 6.3
My Mac connects to the network fine, so I know it works and is connected to the internet. Don't know a thing about WIndows, so any help is appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,

  • Windows Vista won't connect after security change

I have an AirPort Extreme base station, to which we connect using an iMac, PowerBook G4 and a Windows Vista laptop. I used to have it set to WEP, but changed it to WPA for the increased security. After the change, my PowerBook and iMac are connecting just fine, but my wife's Vista machine has been nothing but headaches. It will sometimes connect, after a bit of fighting with it, but not reliably or quickly. At the moment, it says that it is connected with local and internet access, but I can't actually access anything on the internet, and diagnosing the problem in Vista reports that a wireless network cannot be found (despite the fact that it simultaneously reports that it is connected to one).
I know squat about Windows -- I'm a Mac guy. Anybody know how to help me fix this?
    Thanks in advance!

No answers, but the problem seems to have disappeared. Man, I'm starting to realize how fortunate I am to have been using Macs for the last 23 years. I think Vista is going to be a very good thing for Apple! There's nothing like actually using Vista to make one want to flee screaming and never look back...

  • Vista won't connect to the internet

Hi, I just installed Vista Home Basic on my Macbook and downloaded all of the drivers off of the Leopard disk. When I go to connect to the internet either by ethernet cable or wireless it says I have "limited connection" but won't go online. I know the internet works as when i restart in 10.5.1 it works flawlessly.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

"Vista sometimes gets to be "too smart for its own good" and doesn't know waht to make of my moving ethernet cable between the two ports on Mac Pro."
I don't think I've ever heard "too smart for its own good" in relationship to a windows product before. It's usually the other way around. In regard to switching between the two ports and the way it reacts, that's happened to me before as well with other versions of windows and I believe it has EVERYTHING to do with how Microsoft handles their "ONLY INSTALL ON ONE MACHINE" at one time set up. When the software looks and sees a different hardware address/possibly different IRQ ...etc...etc... it makes the OS take much longer to determine if it's the same machine or not, and if it's not, then you have to go through the REGISTRATION again within 30 days or you loose the right to run it on the machine (until of course you re-register it).
That scenario above kind of reminds me of an IF-THEN-ELSE in coding/software, and it's taking the OS an inordinate amount of time to determine which conditional branch it's going to take. Of course this is just my opinion and could be wrong. It's been a while now since I've even needed to do any switching back and forth as you mentioned, so I haven't had to put up with it.

  • HT1386 Help iphone won't connect - "device timed out" error AGAIN & AGAIN

I recently updated my phone to IOS 7.02 and now when I try to connect to itunes I get a "device timed out" error.  Thinking it must just be my itunes out of date, I updated it too.  Again and again the " device timed out" error still happens.  What an utter mistake to have loaded the new IOS.  I have scoured the help files, I have looked at hundreds of discussion threads - nothing.  The only thing I find is many many people seem to have this issue and no one can get it solved.  obviously Apple doesnt give a crap if you are forking out every 6 months.

    Hello,
I would run through the troubleshooting steps in the following document - which one you choose depends on the operating system you're running. You've already done some of the early steps such as updating iTunes, but there are a couple of other steps you can try, such as verifying Apple Mobile Device Support is installed:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538
    or
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Mac OS X
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1591
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities!
    All the best,

  • Help: ipod won't connect, display screen reads do not disconnect

my ipod doesn't show up in iTunes and I've already uninstalled and reinstalled four times. When I connect it, it keeps saying "do not disconnect" and and the battery even looks low now when it was recharged not too long ago. Sometimes I could see it in the Windows My Computer when I tried to reinstall several times, but right now I can't. I cannot sync the songs I want since it doesn't show up in iTunes...
It used to work fine on this computer but recently my sister plugged her iShuffle into my computer to get access to the songs I have. Now when I plug in my ipod mini, it doesn't show up and I can't sync more songs.
Twice after I reinstalled iTunes, it showed up and then acted as if it was copying the songs, but when it finished, nothing was there...
Another time it froze on me,but now it is unfrozen.
I currently have nothing on my ipod.. not even my old songs
I've already tried all the options in the help section relating to this topic, but nothing works...
    Please help!
    Thanks

If you don't have iTunes installed, it will just sit there saying do not disconnect. Is the little charging lightning bolt on the upper corner or does it eventually change to a plug symbol? If so, it is charging fine. Now all you have to do is manually eject it from the Windows environment.
In the future, if you configure the iPod to Enable Disk Mode, it will show up as a disk drive on the computer and you can eject it as such. Right now, you should still be able to find the device on the system and eject it.

  • Help iphone won't connect to iTunes [mac]

hello my iphone won't pop up on iTunes [mac] and windows but it still can charge please won't show up even when I try

You are probably running OS 10.4 or 10.5 on a PPC Mac.  No version of  iTunes higher than 10.6.3 is available for these older Macs.  I have the same problem, and while I can still use the PPC to sync my iPod, it can't be used to sync an iPhone 4 or higher.  The only solution, as I discovered after upgrading to the iPhone 4, is to buy a newer Mac.  I was able to get a 2006 MacBook running Lion for under $300, and that has been a lifesaver.

  • Help!! iPod won't connect or restore!!...

I have solved many problems over the years with my 160gb iPod Classic but I can’t seem to work this one out.
My iPod itself is fine.  It works properly, recharges fine, and I use it every day. However recentaly my Ipod Classic won’t connect to my PC via iTunes. When I connect it to iTunes it says “iTunes has detected an iPod that appears to be corrupted. You may need to restore this iPod before it can be used with ITunes. You may also try disconnecting and reconnecting the iPod”. It also doesn’t appear to be recognised by Windows (Vista), it shows an iPod icon in “My Computer” however I am unable to look at it or go in to the drive.
I have tried to restore the iPod, which seems to finish, however when the “restored” iPod connects to iTunes I get the same message as above in iTunes. And when I turn on my iPod, all the files that were on it still remain, despite the attempted restore.
So, how can I get it to connect to iTunes?!?!?  Any suggestions...?

Most likely your Hardisk is dying.
Do the iPod Disk Diagnostic as posted earlier by tt2, it wont fix your problem, but help in troubleshooting.

  • DW8 won't connect to server in Vista

    Hi all,
Tearing my hair out trying to get my DW8 suite to run on my
new laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium. Used it for 3 years
on an XP machine with no problems.
It won't connect to remote server. Those buttons are greyed
out. Based on the messages I've read here, I've tried:
    1) Run as Administrator
    2) Compatibility with XP
    3) Excluded it from Firewall
    4) Turned off Firewall
    5) Uninstalled and re-installed.
Am at my wits end and hope you can help. Thanks!

Glad you sussed it out (subsequent follow up), put your hair
    back in!
Don't forget to install the 8.02 patch if your install didn't
    include
    it.

Most common problem I've seen in here is that 8.0 can forget
    your FTP
login criteria. The patch cured that, I think.
