Help w Bonjour

When I try to download a new version of Itunes I get : the older version of bonjour cannot be removed. Any sugestions?

If you want to do complete reinstall, please follow following steps:
1. Go to Microsoft website to fix install and Unistall problems. Click "Run now" from Fix it to remove all iTunes & related installer files:
http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
Be aware that Windows Installer CleanUp Utility will not remove the actual program from your computer. However, it will remove the installation files so that you can start the installation, upgrade, or uninstall over.
2. You should remove all instances of iTunes and the rest of the components listed below:
it may be necessary to remove all traces of iTunes, QuickTime, and related software components from your computer before reinstalling iTunes.
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order:
iTunes
QuickTime
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support
Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Follow the instructions from Apple article listed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923 to remove all components
3. Reboot your computer. Next, download iTunes from here:http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ and install from scratch

  • PLEASE HELP WITH "BONjOUR"

    hello,
i installed bonjour because i needed it for home sharing.
previously when i tried to use home sharing i had to go:
    edit> preferences > home sharing,
it would then say that the bonjour service has been disabled.
i knew i did not have bonjour on my pc so i installed it but it still does not work!
i tried managing my computer but it says that it is working fine.
    CAN ANYONE HELP ME????

Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a foder containing the installation package "Bonjour64.msi" in the box below."
    Perfect, thanks.
Unfortunately, these sorts of msi-related troubles have gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any BonJour entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try reinstalling iTunes again. Does the install go through properly now?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

  • Help with Bonjour please!

Hey guys, I've been struggling with this problem for months now and I still cannot find any way to fix it :/ whenever I try to install itunes 10 from the website I get along until it's just about finished and then I get a message saying either "The older version of Bonjour couldn't be removed, contact your technical support group." or the same message except with itunes installer I believe it was. I was able to deal without itunes for a while but now I can't stand it anymore, I've tried all the ways the support site has said, even tried calling in to talk to someone but that didn't work out at all...so I'm coming to you all hoping that you'll be able to help me enjoy all of my music again. Thank you all so much in advance for the help.

  • Bonjour for Windows -- What is it and do I want to update?

An Apple popup wants me to update my "Bonjour for Windows" installation, whatever that is. Do I want to do this?
I searched on the Apple web site and just get some obscure support documents that do not help me.

Bonjour is an IP-based service that allows a computer to automatically discover other devices on your network. A description of what it provides can be found here:
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/BonjourforWindows
It's Apple's trade name for Zeroconf and for Windows users is mostly, though not exclusively, used by iTunes to discover other systems with iTunes Sharing turned on. I would suggest either updating or disabling/removing Bonjour on your system if you're sure you don't need it (other software may also be using it, for printer or server discovery).

    Bonjour Pierre,
there seems to be a bug in iOS5 with regards to Bluetooth. THere are a lot of threads in here on this. We're all waiting for Apple to fix this...

  • Why do I only see Bonjour services on my iOS devices?

    Hi all,
I have a strange issue where only my iOS devices (iPhone 5 and iPad Mini, both on iOS7) can see any Bonjour services, while OS X computers don't see anything. All the devices are in a WiFi network that's hosted by a Cisco AP1142N. This manifests itself in the fact that I can only stream to my AppleTV when I use an iOS device, AirPlay doesn't work at all on the laptops.
Bonjour Browser on the iPhone reveals a plethora of available services, amongst those also _airplay._tcp (where my AppleTV is listed), whereas Bonjour Browser on OS X just shows the services running on the device itself.
Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this?
    Many thanks and best regards

I completely agree, but on the Cisco support forums there are are many different (sometimes contradictory) purported solutions to that problem. Some people state that disabling the IGMP snooper helps with Bonjour, others are adamant that you have to enable it. There's even one post which implicates that version 15 of Cisco's IOS has completely broken Bonjour. I tried most of those "solutions", but did not succeed.
That's why I now want to focus on the difference between the iOS mDNS stack and the one of OS X to see if I get a new angle at the problem — seeing that one works while the other doesn't. I think I won't get around capturing some pakets on the wire...

  • How do I get my Mac air to recognise my HP c4580 printer?

I am trying to print an article (stored with Pages) using an HP photosmart printer C4580 but it says it is searching for the printer (which is connected by USB to the Mac Air) but cannot find it.
Also I can't seem to find Bonjour (which I have always relied on to recognise the various printers I can use).
How can I make the printer recognised?
Can I download Bonjour from somewhere? Would that help?

Bonjour is built-in to OS X. No download is needed.
Safari has a Bonjour browser which you can activate by opening Safari Preferences, selecting Advanced and enabling one of the Bonjour entries to add a Bookmark. If you then select the Bookmark, all devices on your local network that are advertising themselves with Bonjour will be shown.
With regards to the Air not finding the printer attached via USB, you can open System Information and select USB in the left column. The top right pane will show all the USB busses on the Air and if the printer and its USB cable are working correctly, then the printer should be listed under one of the USB busses. Do you see it? If not, try another USB printer cable.

  • Home sharing crash itunes 10.5.0.142 on win7 pro service pack 1 64-bit

8 GByte RAM, Intel i7 CPU, flash hard drive (256 GB) with files stored on Ethernet shared file server (2 TB)
    per bottom of iTunes window:
    16-17k podcasts, 354 GB
    9800 songs, 80 GB
    34 movies, 110 GB
    17 tv shows, 114 GB
    5 iTunes U, 0.9 GB
    26 books, 5.2 GB
    14 apps
iTunes runs until I try to view a (DSL-downloaded) TV show. The wifi apple tv stops playing a minute in, give or take. The apple tv also stops listing the computer in the top-level user interface.
    iTunes on the PC crashed.
There was a while where home sharing didn't work. Then it worked (fixed in a software update or apple infrastructure, as other postings indicate). Now, with the most recent update, it looks like a bug has been introduced into iTunes.

Home sharing no longer crashes, but it also does not work:
google searches provide example lore, such as found in apple's own:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2972
set up home sharing on devices; toggle home sharing off/on on devices
No, this is not a fix. Neither makes progress.
use latest software on all devices (iTouch, two apple tvs, win7 itunes)
No, this is not a fix. All devices are up to the latest software.
As an example, 4.4.2 (3160) didn't work, and neither did 4.4.3 (3323) for the apple tvs.
    Check apple id used
No, this is not a fix. All devices use the same apple id, tested by viewing items and by purchasing items in the store.
    Check your network.
Home sharing used to work. Nevertheless, transitioned from wifi-based apple tv and Ethernet star network off home router to: Ethernet based apple tv; Ethernet switched connectivity via Linksys 5-port GbE switches, with home router only needed for wifi hop or DSL to Internet. No improvement. Also transitioned from DHCP to static IP addresses. No improvement. This layer-2 focus avoids issues such as layer-3 IP TTL values for multicast, were the home router to switch at layer-3 rather than layer-2 among local devices (note that it all worked with original flows through home router, so this is just proof of expected FUD). All cables are CAT6, not 10/100 cat5, nor simply cat5e.
    Check firewall settings
disabling the firewall does nothing (win7, all cases, home or work and public network cases)
Neither does the more-detailed manipulation of rules for inbound and outbound traffic for TCP (3689) and UDP (5353) when the firewall is enabled. (Disabling the firewall is clearer proof that the rules are not the issue.) Bonjour (mDNS) should get through just fine.
    Quit and re-open apps
    Not a fix
    Power cycling
Not a fix. All gear has been power cycled (apple tvs, laptop with itunes, router, etc).
    iTouch browsing
    settings/wifi = on
remote app / home sharing = on
both apple tv libraries are discovered (one is Ethernet-based; one is wifi-based)
    The laptop's is not listed.
    authorize/deauthorize laptop
    Not a help.
restart bonjour service on windows laptop
    Not a help.
    restart itunes on win7 laptop
    Not a help
run latest win7 64-bit wireshark on laptop while running itunes
looked a bit silent wrt the laptop's itunes
    control panel / add/remove programs / bonjour (10/15/2011) / repair
This showed the use of 224.0.0.251 UDP packets for bonjour. However, it did not persist.
I suspect a bonjour service - local iTunes issue. Perhaps iTunes has to interact with the service in order for the service to participate in the wire protocol. The iTunes UI is OK, so it is some internal detail.
In the past I have noticed that a heavy download load by iTunes inhibited home sharing. It may be a threading issue within iTunes.
    Summary: still not working.

  • IE 8 not able to see image reflections created in iweb 08. What can I do?

IE 8 cannot see the reflection of images on webpages created in iweb 08. Firefox sees' them fine. I am using a web style that automatically reflects the inserted image below it on the Welcome' page and 'All about me' page. However after publishing, most PC/IE 8 users only see the reflected image as a solid image repeat directly underneath which then covers up the text below. Is there anything I can do other than unticking the reflection box in the graphic inspector box? This is a pity as it's a really nice feature. Can anyone help?

    Bonjour
Before beginning, you need an image with a reflection effect in iWeb
    1. Publish, visit your website with Safari
Make a selective screenshot of your image and its reflection in Safari (sometimes the colors are not the same in iWeb and Safari - you need the colors showed in the Browser)
and replace your original image by this screenshot in iWeb.
    Publish
Now you have a JPG file published in your website (if you don't add a mask, a rotation or a flip to this image)
    or
    2. copy your image in iWeb
    open Preview
    cmd N
You can see your image with its reflection in Preview.
    show the Preview sidebar
drag and drop the thumbail from the Preview sidebar to iWeb
Now you have a PNG file published in your website
I prefer the first way to do because I will publish a JPG file and not a PNG. PNG makes a big file.

  • Apple TV works wired but doesn't work with Airport

    Hello everybody
    I have the following:
    o Mac Book Pro 13
    o Apple TV
    o D-Link WiFi Access Point (192.168.1.0/24)
    o Ethernet Network (also 192.168.1.0/24)
    o DHCP Server
Initially I connected to Apple TV via Ethernet. As long as my Mac Book is wired to the network (firewall disabled, 192.168.1.189), Apple TV (also wired via Ethernet, 192.168.1.182) is able to connect to my iTunes library and iTunes finds Apple TV and everything works just fine. However, as soon as I connect my Mac Book via WiFi (192.168.1.200), the connection between these two devices is lost.
As a network administrator this confuses me quite a lot. I thought, that the communication between these two softwares is a typical client server connection using daap protocol. For me it would be logical that iTunes connects to Apple TV on startup and establishes the network connection. Obviously I am wrong!
What do I have to do, to make these two devices communicating while my Mac Book is wired as well as WiFi'ed to my private network? Any help is appreciated.
    So long, Stefan

OK, I tcpdump'ed the network traffic on the wifi network adapter while opening iTunes. There are many mdns (bonjour) packets, even from the Apple TV box. That most probably means, that the two devices are being found using bonjour. The Apple TV box also sends the following request to my iTunes:
    +GET /ript/readytoconnect?machine-id=0x2D19D2D21EE788ED HTTP/1.1+
