HELP!!! Weird white bars appearing in exports...

We have just hired on a fabulous graphic designer to our company, but every time we export her designs as jpegs instead of PDFs, horizontal white bars appear going across smaller images. The bars do not line up with each other, even across images of the exact same size. There are no hidden objects to get rid of and this happens no matter which machine we open it on, hers, mine, my assistants, or any one of the other 5 computers in our studio. What is going on? Why does it look perfect as a PDF and crappy as a jpeg?
We are using InDesign as past of the new creative suite that includes photoshop CS3.

Well Buko that doesn't sound like an answer at all but as a workaround to a flaw in the program itself. Are you telling me that the only way to get a jpeg out of InDesign is to first export as a PDF? If that's the case, then it means Adobe has put out a product that doesn't work as it is supposed to.
Buko, you did not attempt to answer my question, and in fact tried to make me feel stupid for not seeing the obvious answer of spending more time doing what InDesign already should do. No one likes a smart aleck.
This is a serious question to the rest of the world. My question is NOT how to eventually get a jpeg. My question is this: Why can I not export a jpeg directly from InDesign? What is going on? Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a bug in our version of InDesign, or is this a common problem?

Not sure what is going on. I just wanted to test a few pages and see there is a problem. the home page has white vertical bars in ie. On mac no problems. I rebuilt the page and it still has the bars. The other pages in the site do not have this problem. Please help!

You have a lot of detail on this page where all these frames/borders/mats and backgrounds to the images create a large number of PNG files. I would imagine that IE is struggling to load all these.
You can reduce the overall file size by taking a screenshot of each image with its frames etc and replacing each original with a single JPEG. See....

Help: Weird letter 'C' appeared top of N95 Screen

Hi,
The stranges thing happened to me. In any other screen then the media menu. A C (Dark angainst a white background) appeared at the top of my screen. it is unclear to me why it is there and how to get rid of it. A reboot removes it but, it comes back again after a while.
Does anyone have a suggestion?

I just got a n95 and bluetooth keyboard.
I get a "C" on a white background at the top of the screen when I use the keyboards Caps lock function and a similar "N" for Num lock.
If you use a bluetooth keyboard I suspect this is the cause of the "Weird letter 'C' appeared top of N95 Screen".

White Bars on Jpeg Export

InDesign CS6 updated as of today.
I am working on a 45 x 48.5 poster with about 300 images. When I export the file as a jpeg, it has large bars that go across the entire project. I have previously exported the file as a jpeg without issue, but I needed to increase the resolution. So I went back today and tried as 600ppi and the bars appear.
The bars are approximely 3 inches in height and span the entire width. They are not the same size and are not evenly spaced. One is about 40% from the top and the other is maybe 60% from the top.
I can not upload a screen shot right now, but any help would be appreciated.
P.S. - I took this project over for someone else and I am not very versed in InDesign. I am pretty familiar with Adobe PS and BR.

@Peter...yeah, too fast of typing without engaging brain. I was editing some PDFs in another app today and while the fonts were present from embedding, they were subsetted and I was simply converting them to curves so output would go smoothly.

If this was being offset, twice the dpi to a little more of the lpi it is being printed is more than sufficient. If it is going to digital print, the limiting factor is the real dpi the device is capable of. While you will read high dpi claims, the data of continuous tone images greater than 300 dpi is all going to be processed and the rip is going to toss the extra pixels out (i.e., not going to print them).
Also, if looking at the links panel, if you have images where the effective resolution is above 300 dpi at 100% scale, ID is going to chew on the image(s) and simply chew up memory unneccesarily. So I would fire up PS and ensure any images are scaled appropriately and are exported out at 100% of the pixel dimensions of their placement in ID and 300 dpi. Exporting should go (more) smoothly if this isn't the case.
Fonts. I suspect you simply changed the font, correct? If so, it shouldn't have popped up any font messages going to PDF. If not, do so if the typeface is not key to the look/feel.

Weird white dots appearing in menu

Hello everyone,
I just noticed today that everytime I open the menu up top and rollover a button, white dots appear. Each time I rollover, the dots change position. For example, if I roll over a selection, there are a lot of dots, and sometimes there aren't a lot of dots. It appear to only show when I roll over a selection in the menus up top or in the system preferences menu. They are sometime black dots too. It does not appear anywhere else, so I don't think they are dead pixels. I have turned off the translucent effect too, btu that did not fix it.
I added three photos for examples.
Two images show two different times I rolled over the same selection and the dots changed, and one image is in the system preferences as another example.

White rectangle appears on exported Gif Rollover

Hi, I'm on FW CS3 and DW CS3 (Using Intel iMac). I'm
exporting a simple Gif rectangular rollover from FW into
Dreamweaver. While I'm not a web expert, I've done plenty of
rollover navigation graphics in Fireworks. The browser preview of
the rollover looks good in FW, but when I export it to Dreamweaver,
it technically works but I get a white rectangle at the bottom of
the graphic when I rollover with the mouse - a white triangle which
I do not want to be there.
I've tried various differences in positioning my slice in FW
and I've tried Dreamweaver Html and switching to Generic Html in
case that made any difference. Neither change helped.

What I've done is this:
Take your Fireworks image, where you have the rounded
rectangle vector object (and text and whatever else on your
background color) and export (Image>Preview, not Save) that to a
PNG 24, but save it with a different file name or in a different
folder.
Hmm...I've JUST realized there's a slightly easier way!
Okay...open this flattened image. Go to Modify>Canvas>Canvas
Color and set that to transparent.
Select the magic wand selection tool. In the Properties
palette, set the tolerance to 0. Click in one of the corners, then
press your Delete key. That portion of your image will become
transparent. Do the same for the other corners.
Now export to GIF format and make sure to select Alpha
Transparency so that your corners come out, well, transparent.

Black Bar appear on Export

I have always created DVD's of my finished projects by exporting a Quicktime Movie to my desktop, dragging it into IMovie HD and burning a DVD by sharing with IDVD.
Since having installed FCP I get a black Bar down the left side about 1/8th. the size of the screen when I play my project back in IMovie. It follows to the DVD. Any suggestions?

I was taught to export to IMovie by someone else. I hadn't even considered I could go directly to IDVD. Since your prompt, I researched doing just that, tried it and it appears to have worked. It also eliminated the black bar which was appearing in IMovie HD. This is how I had done it in FCExpress and I guess it doesn't work with FCP. It's a much shorter process.
Now I have to figure out why I can't get video to my external monitor through my deck. I've thrown every switch I know to throw and neither my deck nor the external monitor is seeing video from the computer via firewire. Any hints?

Need help with optimizing text appearance when exporting video

Here's what I'm trying to do:
1. Convert a Powerpoint presentation to an MP4 (AVC) file, frame rate 30 (actually defaults to 29.97) and video bit rate of 1200kbps,using Wondershare PPT2VideoPro. (There are no actual video clips contained in the original PPT file).
2. Import the newly created MP4 video into a new project in Premeire Elements.
3. Add audio files (WAV) created by Audacity.
4. Export the final product as a video.
Here's the problem:
The text quality in the final exported film is very poor, and the screen occasionally seems to sublty flicker once and a while. I've tried multiple different settings, but all with the same result.
Can anyone offer suggestions on optimal settings for exporting the final product such that the text is as clear as possible? (The text in the MP4 file created by Wondershare looks great.)

One option would be to create the Text Images in Photoshop, and Save_As a PSD.
For large sets of Titles, I do the text portion in Word/WordPerfect, so I can use Spell-Check. Then in PS, I just Copy/Paste the text into an Image, where I apply all of the PS Styles that I need. Because I use PrPro for most of my NLE work, I will often do the Titles with Layered Text, and Import those as a Sequence, so that the Layers are not Flattened. This allows me to independently animate each Layer, as I need. Unfortunately, PrE does not allow one to Import the Layered PSD's, Unflattened, as it does not have Sequences.
Also note that PrE's Titler's Styles are just a starting point. Once applied, one can alter most aspects, and when they are satisfied with the changes, they can then Save the new Style and re-use it over and over. Do not forget the ability to modify those Styles.
From PowerPoint, and this depends on the version, the best that one can usually do is to Export each "slide" as a TIFF, and Import those into the NLE program.

White Bar Deleting Everything on Adobe Products

I have had Photoshop Elements on my Mac laptop for about three years. Last week, a small white horizontal bar popped up in the bottom of my screen. After the white bar appears, even if I click on the X and close it out, anything I click on on Photoshop is deleted. This makes it impossible to type any text. The white bar is also on Adobe Reader and it doesn't appear anywhere else on my laptop, so I feel confident that this is an Adobe problem. Any ideas what this is and how I can get rid of it?

The white bar is your input helper and is controlled by your system's language and keyboard settings. Nothing to do with Adobe. Check the relevant system control.

IChat chat window creates strange white bar in chat box when typing.

I made a topic about this before, but it was archived and not able to reply.

This is not an original screen shot, just a very close photoshopped version of it. Which looks exactly like what happens.
As you can see, there is a white bar that appears in iChat chat window after it gets a scroll bar. It appears for me after I type something (so the "..." bubble appears), then delete all of it (so the "..." bubble disappears). After the "..." bubble disappears, this is when I get this white bar at the bottom of the chat window, which disappears in a split second, almost like a flash.
I know this problem is really small, but it never existed in the pervious version of iChat. And the flashing white bar bothers me!! haha. Please fix this Apple! :P

This issue seems to happen regardless of other windows open. I tried resizing the box, I do not see any white. My background image tiles itself. Without a background, you will just have white anyway, so the white bar, if it does appear, is not visible by eye.
After replicating this issue myself again, I noticed this... The person you are chatting with must of responded at least once. Also, you must delete all the text you typed in the text area, not some of it. (You have to make your "..." bubble disappear from the chat window by deleting all of what you just typed.) Once your "..." bubble goes away, it is then where you see the white bar appear over where your "..." bubble just was. And it almost slides/pans down within the chat window.
Also I just noticed, that my whole background slides/pans downward with the white box. As the white box appears, it literally pushes my background image up and then it slides back into place as the white bar slides down and disappears.
By the way, this never happened on OSX 10.4 Tiger's version of iChat. I also believe it did not happen with Leopard as well, but I would have to check with that. But from what I've seen, this is definitely an issue that appeared in the newer version(s) of iChat.

U330 Bios v.68? Anyone still have this available? Still having white bar issues.

Requesting u330 bios update v.68 beta.
Had put away the u330 into storage last year thinking it was unfixable due to a broken LCD. Learned through reading through the massive discussion, http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Windows-7-Discussion/U330-Windows-7-Drivers-Problem-amp-Solutions/td-p/1... , it was fixable bios/driver issue concerning the graphics cards. The link for the v68 bios update no longer exists on the thread.
What I did: Per instructions, Flashed with v.67 (latest from Lenovo website). Then fresh install of Windows 64 and updated everything through Windows.
This fixed the power issue and most of the white bar issue. There are a few lines that pop up sometimes and the bar sometimes flashes on and off depending on the graphics use. For example, when I wash something on youtube or hulu.
New issue: Doesn't detect the discrete ATI card. Only the integrated Intel card is shown on device driver and the bios doesn't allow me to enable vtx/discrete card or whatever. ATI is nowhere to be detected. Tried installing ati and the new amd catalyst drivers and neither can detect the driver either.
Reading through the thread indicated that the bios 68 beta would solve my the switching issue and the remaining white bar issues. So I gotta ask. Does anyone have it available????

I can't imagine that it is really a hardware problem... It only happens for me when there is some kind of moving graphics on the screen and it isn't at the front of the windows or switching between windows. And it all kind of depends on whether I'm running programs with moving graphics or am at websites with graphics/video. For example, if I go to the Hulu homepage (which has a changing banner) and then simultaneously open the start menu or a folder in windows, the flashing white bar appears. In this case, the moving graphics is now "behind" the start menu or the window. But if I then click on the maximized homepage again, the flashing white bar disappears. Interestingly, this seems to happen only when I use Google Chrome as my browser. I can also make it reliably happen by just going to the desktop. Pressing on the bottom of the screen doesn't help me at all.
Given that this problem started for many people around the same time, which, to me, suggests that maybe there was a update to the graphics card or windows update that led to some kind of funky incompatibility.
Do other people have "symptoms" that are as specific as mine? Maybe we have multiple problems here ...

My ipod won't connect to Itunes after I attempted to restore it, it now has a white bar underneath it. Help?

My ipod was stuck in the connect to itunes sign, I have no idea what that's called. anyway, I connected it to itunes and tried to restore it. After several failed attempts, it seemed to be working, and showed an apple logo with a hollow white bar underneath it. From my undestanding, it was supposed to fill as it was restored, but Itunes came up with an error saying it failed to connect, so now it is frozen like that, and won't turn off or shut down when you hold the home and lock button for ten seconds It won't connect to itunes now. I dont know what to do. Please, any help would be good.

The white bar means it is doing the update. I hope you didn't unplug your iPod while it was updating.
Hold down the power and home buttons at the same time for at least 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears on the screen. After that you can let go. You may have to restore your iPod depending on the extent of the problem.

In the printer driver (accessed through the Page Setup button) set the Advanced tab to borderless. Then in the right hand panel under Layout set all the margins to zero.

File icon with ? mark on it means it can't read from the hard drive. The hard drive is now wiped or bad. If just wiped then you will need to reinstall your operating system, OS X. If bad you will need to replace the drive.
Start with booting the computer from the OS X install DVD that came with your system. If the Mac came with Lion Pre-Installed then you use the Lion internet recovery system to reinstall (Hold down Command+r keys or Command+Option+r keys to boot the computer from over the internet to the Lion recovery HD system).
