HELP - WGM problems after security upgrade!

Hi all,
After installing the latest security patch, I had users complain that the VPN was not allowing them to authenticate. Then, it turns out that AFP is not working. I tried to get into WGM using my diradmin account and am told that no account exists. I try with my own account (with admin priviledges) and get the same message. I can log into WGM as root but then get a message that "users" has not been mapped and then I am in WGM but have none of my users present.
I am on 10.4.9 server and have had no problem at all until now.
Thanks for any help at all!

Hi Scott
When slapd_macosxserver.conf file is created it contains an entry for the root user of the LDAP database – the directive rootdn. Don’t be confused and think this is the same root user that is enabled/disabled in Net Info Manager. This is the root user that sits behind diradmin which is created on Open Directory promotion. There is also an entry for the rootpw directive, this contains an MD5 encrypted hash of the root user’s password. This user and password can be used to manage the LDAP server even if PasswordServer is not running.
This is the important bit:
ANY user name and password can be used for the root LDAP user, the user does not even have to exist in the LDAP database itself, all thats required is that it exists in the conf file. Using the local admin account will allow you to edit the slapd_macosxserver.conf file to add a new password hash – plaintext can be used also. At this point that user can be used once again to administer the LDAP database. What happens is slapd assumes that this user name and password is the root user for the LDAP database and allows full access with no restrictions. This is extremely useful if the LDAP database becomes so damaged that no user records are readable – which I think is what’s happening in your case.
This method is also very handy if all passwords for users in the LDAP database have been lost or forgotten.
You should also consider using the usual drive/directory repair utilities such as Disk 4tility, DiskWarrior and anything else you consider useful. Repair privileges and permissions while you are at it. I would also prepare yourself in saving as much desired data as you can in case you have to do a rebuild.

    DataSource problems after BW upgrade
    Upgrade from

Problem exists throughout, both with generic and standard DataSources.
    Here is one specific example:
    Generic DataSource ZXXXXXXXX
InfoPackage "ZXXXXXXXX(ZXXXXXXXX)" does not run. Error:
    DataSource ZXXXXXXXX(SOURCESYS) must be activated
    Message no. RSDS179
    Then followed these steps:
    1. Replicate Metadata from source system
    2. Report RSDS_DATASOURCE_ACTIVATE_ALL from SE38 for source system SOURCESYS and DataSource ZXXXXXXXX
    Errors returned:
Inconsistent user object ZXXXXXXXX SOURCESYS for PSA /BIC/B000XXXX
    Error saving DataSource ZXXXXXXXX SOURCESYS
DataSource ZXXXXXXXX (SOURCESYS) could not be activated
When I try to choose "Manage" from the context menu for the DataSource, I see an error:

    Hi,
Just to help the folks out here.
    In my case,
Inspite of going through several valid NOTES & program, my issue didnt resolve (you reply was pretty accurate - but dint help me :-)).
I have resolved the issue by adjusting the PSA table for the same.
    Procedure:
Take the psa name  --> go to table rstsods --> find the ODSNAME_TECH name for the relevant psa  --> se38 t.code --> enter ODSNAME_TECH and click on 'adjust & activate database table' (make sure you have selected 'save data' radio button.
Just in case anyone who come across this problem, can do the above steps.
    Regards,
    Dubbu.

I installed iOS 5.0.1 on my Iphone 3GS. I never can not write in my calendar. Anyone else having this problem after their upgrade?

I was going to suggest - Settings>General>Reset>Reset all settings, but if you are restoring to factory settings, that should restore the settings back to factory defaults. But if you are restoring from a backup, after restoring to factory settings, try resetting all of the settings and see if that fixes it.
It might be something in your backup.

  • I have a mac, would like to upgrade to mountain lion from mac os x, anybody experienced any problems after this upgrade, thanks

i have a mac, would like to upgrade to mountain lion from mac os x, anybody experienced any problems after this upgrade, thanks

Check that your computer is compatible with Mountain Lion.
To check the model number hold down the option/alt key, go to the Apple menu and select System Information.
iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) model number 7,1 or higher
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) model number 5,1 or higher
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) model number 3,1 or higher
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) model number 2,1 or higher
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) model number 3,1 or higher
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) model number 3,1 or higher
Xserve (Early 2009) model number 3,1 or higher
    Your Mac needs:
OS X v10.6.8 or OS X Lion already installed
2 GB or more of memory (More is better - 4 GB minimum seems to be the consensus)
8 GB or more of available space
If you can/do upgrade, I recommend you make a copy of the installer and move it out of your Applications folder. The installer self-destructs. The copy will keep you from having to download the installer again.  You can make a bootable DVD/USB stick to install using this free program.
Bootable Drive DVD or USB Flash Drive – Lion Diskmaker
Our 2 computers haven't experienced any significant problems, even though others have. I find it much better than 10.7 Lion, which I used for a week before reverting to 10.6.8
Mavericks is supposed to be released this fall, so you may want to wait.

  • Login problem after testing upgrade today

Yeah problem after upgrade again   After i enter my username and password to login to Gnome, i get the message
Your session only tested less than 10 seconds. If you
have not logged out yourself, this could mean that there
is some installation problem or that you may be out of
diskspace. Try logging in with one of the failsafe
sessions to see if you can fix this problem
I sure am not out of disk space so what could the problem be? I am using windows for now till i can find a solution.
    Thanks.

  • T410i SSD user and master password problem after firmware upgrade

    Hello.
I have problem with my Corsair Force 3 120GB SSD. After firmware upgrade of SSD my master and user HDD passwords are no longer valid. I'm stuck on BIOS screen and cannot unlock my SSD. After firmware upgrade procedure i got BSOD. Same happened during firmware upgrade on my previous SSD (INTEL X25-M 80GB) but after restart everything was OK. Please help!
    Previous firmware version: 1.3
    Current firmware version: 1.3.3
SSD connected to another computer shows RAW partition data, but firmware version is 1.3.3 - seems like update was successful.

My X301 Intel x18 got bricked also after a BIOS update then secure erase (was going to sell it). I plugged it to a USB kit and onto a desktop and it was recognised and able to format. But plugging it back to the lenovo it is still a brick. My lucky star there was warranty it was replaced by lenovo.
You may want to try it and extract the data, if it works. And hopefully you can still format it and made it work pluggin back to the lenovo.

  • External monitor problem after Lion upgrade

    Hi,
I have a 20" iMac which has a screen resolution of 1680x1050(ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro 256 MB).  I have been using an additional 168x1050 monitor(Dell 2009W) in dual screen mode.  This was working fine with Leopard, Snow Leopard, but it does not work after I upgraded to Lion.  The screen appears to look fine for a few seconds then blanks out for a second and repeats.   The only way I can use my extra monitor is by reducing the resolution to  1360x768.
Does anyone know of a fix or if apple is working on a fix.   I called apple support, but all of their suggestion (fix disk permisions, reset PRam) did not help.
    Thanks for any help.
    Paul

Similar problem here with a 15" MacBook Pro purchased in late 2009. Connected to a new Dell ST2210 21.5" display via a DVI cable and Apple's mini display port to single link dvi adapter. The cable is dual link but seems to work fine the majority of the time.
When I wake my mac from sleep 1 time out of 3 I see black and white static on my external screen that only goes away when I unplug the screen or power it up and down.
I've tested another older MacBook Pro with the screen and everything works fine and when I connect with a different dvi cable I get the same issue.
When I called Apple support, they said it was a software issue and directed me to remove some .plist files in my library. I did what they said on the phone and it seemed to work for maybe 6 sleep cycles but the issue came back again. Since then I've reset the VRAM following their directions in a support article on the subject of external display static. (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377)
Does anyone know of a way to fix this or if Apple is actually listening? VGA works fine but I hate the quality of VGA compared to DVI. Should I look into getting an mini display port to dvi adapter from someone other than Apple?
It's annoying to have purchased a perfectly Mac compatible monitor which you really need, just to discover that Apple is having trouble with their mini display port...
Here's another guy with a similar issue and the same monitor (http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/peripherals/f/3529/t/19330464.aspx#1 9691738). However, from the research I've done, his conclusion about it being the monitor seems to be false, especially with all the complaints here about similar issues regardless of display model.
I need an answer that does not include going back to VGA. What are your suggestions? I do have HDMI but would rather not shell out the money for a cable and adapter...

Really, *most* of the problems that people find in Linux's fonts are just because they are used to the awful default fonts from Windows XP. Yes, people can even get used to those fonts and believe they're good!!! And when they see correct fonts in Linux they think they're bad...
What I would do is remove the MS TTF fonts. They work bad in Windows and worse in Linux. You should use Bitstream Vera or DejaVu if you want good quality fonts (especially in web pages).
But, then again, you might think that they look wrong just because you're not used to it... Oh, well...
What does correct font / correct spacing mean ?
IMO, that doesn't make any sense, because that's a totally subjective matter, like many other things in this world.
BTW, I love how fonts look in Windows, and I think that must be the only thing MS got right. Thus, I'm using ms fonts in linux, and a rendering as close as possible (no autohinting or antialiasing or subpixel rendering).
Similarly, I could find a woman beautiful that you would find ugly or just average. We are all different, and it's better that way

  • Problems after Security Update 10-05

Installed today's Security Update from Software Update, restarted, and ran Permissions Repair (as usual). As usual there were several Flash/Java permissions which needed fixing, but while this was happening I kept getting a window telling me that "WebKitPluginHost quit unexpectedly" and that a long report of tech-speak would be sent to Apple.
There's no sign of WebKitPluginHost in Spotlight, so I presume it is something to do with my only automatically loading Login item, which is DropBox. This guess was supported by the failure of Dropbox to launch at all, even when I followed the maker's advice and trashed all their settings.
I restarted the computer, re-ran Permissions Repair, disabled automatic loading, and re-started. Still no Dropbox. It was working fine before the Security Upgrade, so I presume it's a problem with the latter, rather than the former.
I ran Permissions Repair again, and it told me all the Java ones it had just repaired had to be repaired again!
Anyone else having post-Update launching or permissions problems?
    Anyone have a suggestion?
Can I "Uninstall" the Update and see if that fixes things?
Will a "Safe Boot" ignore the Update??
Added: I tried restarting and logging in with a new user "Test" account, but the problem was the same, which I think indicates it is a system problem?
    Message was edited by: makrhod

I tried 'Safe Boot", and had the same problem, but when I rebooted again in normal mode, everything worked! I don't understand why it took 4 restarts and 2 Permission Repairs to get things going after the Security Update (the only thing I have downloaded for a week or so, by the way), but my own particular problem is solved.
I'll mark this as answered, but someone else may need to post if they find the Update causes strange behaviour.

  • 8330 - Problem after OS upgrade

    Hi All -
I recently upgraded the OS on the unit to V 4.5.0.175. A back up was created prior to the upgrade.   After the upgrade, the note pad, task list and brickbreaker were deleted.  They are not on the desktop or 'hidden' on the unit.  In addition, the unit now makes a chirping sound when on a phone call.   The Verizon has unable to help solve the problems.  I have tried to download the updgrade to the desktop software from the verizon link in the hopes the missing apps would be included but have been unsuccessful.  The download freezes at various points whether I am running it or trying to save it and is the only site/download I am having trouble with.
Any insights or suggestions to resolve these problems would be greatly appreciated.  I would be happy to reverse the upgrade of the OS if that would solve the problems but do not know what the original version, where to get it or the best way to do it.
HELP -  I need access to the info in the memo pad!!!
    Thanks!!

  • DRM problem after PC upgrade

I've just downloaded an album from the Music store to my PC using the OviPlayer but cannot play it; I am told I have no play rights, no burn rights and no right to copy it to my phone. So not a very succesful purchase!!
I have now discovered I have the same problem with all the other tracks I've downloaded from the store (though most of those I'd already transferred to my phone and they'll still play there)
Having read various articles I am wondering if this could be a side affect of having recently upgraded my PC. I replaced the existing hard discs and installed a version of Windows 7 and then copied all my music files back - somewhere along the way could I have lost the licences.
All the Nokia music is still in my Nokia Vault - so I seem to be able to download it again; but what do I need to do to be able to play it (and transfer it to the phone) once I've done the download?
Many thanks for any help or suggestions that can be offered.

    Hi,
If you are having problem with CWM account, what you need to do is contact Nokia Careline and tell them your issue. Do not forget to inform them that this happened after you upgraded your PC. They will have your PC released from the CWM system (which may take 24-48 hours as they are always saying) and you'll need to logback in to your account. This time once they have released your PC, you should be asked if you want to register the PC again. Just ok to that and once you play the tracks you downloaded it should allow you to get the license already.
If you are referring to Nokia Music Store account, Just re-download the tracks from your Music Vault and that should allow give you back your licenses.
    Hope this helps.

  • Some apps won't open after security upgrade 2008-003 (PPC)

After experiencing what I thought were problems limited to Safari (3.1.1) I trashed prefs, reset, reinstalled Safari and it became progressively worse. Initially, Safari was very slow to load pages, then would crash after clicking a few links, then after one link, then crash before first page load, then would crash upon launch. I tried reverting to 3.0.4, but no luck. Then I realized that Software Update didn't work either. Several, in fact, won't launch. When I double-click an app icon, it sort of expands(blows out), then maybe a Dock bounce, and...nothing. Activity monitor doesn't show any activity either. Safari, iChat, Installer (security update), Finder, TextWrangler, iMovieHD, iClip, LaunchBar and others crash upon launch. Thankfully, Firefox is slow but stable. Some others, like TestEdit, still work. The problems seem to have started (as well as I can guess) after Security Update 2008-003(PPC), which I'm unable to reinstall as a standalone update b/c the Installer crashes after I select "Continue" on the first screen. I don't have any modifiers like TinkerTool or PithHelmet.
    Please advise.
    Thanks in advance.

Yes, I run Repair Permissions of the startup disk, then Repair Disk from the install disk before OS and Security updates. The recent crashlogs have similar failures The most recent crashlog follows:

  • [HELP!!]After Firmware upgrading, **bleep**! So how can I turn off the WRT54G Firewall? Thanks!!

One program was using fine when using previous firmware and now facing firewall problem after upgrading.
Can anybody help me to turn off the firewall?
    THanks a lot!

Hi… Well I think both the firmware’s does have a firewall and disabling this altogether may not be the best solution for the problems you are facing. Please give the exact details of the issue. Also just to mention, after upgrading the firmware, reset the router and reconfigure it. If you need to open the ports on that firewall, you can go to gaming and application tab either forward or trigger the ports as per you requirements.
