Help! what is the default location for shared file system?
Help! i came in this morning and for some bizarre reason the shard file system information had disappeared and podcast producer wouldn't work i thought it was in library/quicktimestreaming/movies so i set it to there but when i try and submit a video i just get question-marks in the post where the video should be its obviously not finding it. So i found where most of the previous videos were which is a folder called Podcast Producer which seems to be a link to my external drive but when i set the shared file system to this folder it creates a new folder called podcasts and sticks them in there so i get the same question-mark scenario. Its bizarre i can't figure out why it would losse the information in server admin the only thing i can think of is that i did a repair permissions and wondered if it might have set some permission on the shared filesystem folder differently and made it somehow inaccessible does anybody know what permissions should be set on the folder? Also regarding quicktime streaming does this location have to be the same as the shared file system folder?

Thanks - The folder was hidden, so once I changed my options to see hidden files, I was able to find it exactly where the link told me it would be.
Much appreciated!

Every time I have to upgrade iTunes it gives me this messege:'The default location for this file is in the "iTunes" folder in the "Music" folder.' the file should be there but I don't understand why it does this every time Apple upgrades the Itunes library. Its on the computer somewhere but it only affects this login on my computer (meaning on this Windows Account). Why does my iTunes do this? Then I have to spend hours placing all my libraries back together and all my music back into the library. Which usually takes me a few days to sort all out. What is wrong with my iTunes? The iTunes folder is a folder in my Music folder where I store the iTunes music/files/libraries at on my computer so I can have all of the iTunes files in one place on my computer.
I have a Windows 7 operating system my computer runs from.

itunes library.itl file cannot be found or created. The default location for this file is in the "iTunes" folder in the "Music" folder, I keep getting this message everytime I try to install Itunes after having to remove windows 8.1 and go back to windows 8. I have uninstalled and reinstalled and it keeps telling me the same thing. What do I do?

I just upgraded my mac book to 10.6.8 and downloaded the new version of itunes. When I try to open it and error message appears saying, "The iTunes Library file cannot be found or created. The default location for this file is in the "iTunes" folder in the "Music" folder."
I have tried a few things but iTunes closes right after i click okay. Anyone know anything?Look in your Home > Music folder. There should be an iTunes folder there and it should have a number of files and folders including one called library.itl You want to guide iTunes to that file. If you don't see that file or folder then in your next post you will have to be very specific as to what you do see or how you have your iTunes set up because that's where it should be according to default settings.

I am trying to open iTunes on my Windows 7 PC and am getting the following message...the itunes library can not be found or created. The default location for this file is in the "iTunes" folder in the "Music" folder. Any ideas?
Let's try this first. Hold down the Shift key while you try to launch iTunes. You should eventually see the following dialog:
Click "Choose library". Browse to inside the following location (depending on what operating system you're running):
Operating System
Default location of iTunes library
Microsoft Windows XP
\Documents and Settings\[your username]\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\
Microsoft Windows Vista
\Users\[your username]\Music\iTunes\
Microsoft Windows 7
\Users\[your username]\My Music\iTunes\
... and open the iTunes library you find in there. -
I keep getting the following message The iTunes library cannot be found or created. The default location for this file is in the iTunes folder in the music folder. All of my playlists have disappeared and I am trying to recover them however I now can't even open iTunes!

How do I change the default location for mail files?
I want to move my mail folders from /Library/Mail and /Library/Mail Downloads folders to a different drive. How can I do this? I know how to move them - I want to know how I make mail aware of where I have put them). I have an encrypted SSD I want to use.
I know I can encrypt the main drive but I don't want to do this.Changing the default downloads folder is helpful. Solves part of the problem. I have PGP installed and it decrypts the emails as they come in and place them in my inbox as unencrypted so the emails themselves need to remain encrypted on the disk. I tried using alias's but couldn't get it to work.
I would just encrypt the whole disk but I am worried that I get other problems. I have had 8 Macbook Pro laptops in about 6 years and in that time only one has lasted 12 months plus without a replacement or repair. I don't think much of apples reliability or support for that matter, so rely heavily on disk clones to make sure I can keep working. The hardware is so rubbish I now keep a spare macbook for when my main one needs repaired. In fact I am running off my cloned disk just now because my brand new MBP 17" is in for repair for the 3rd time in 5 months. If the software wasn't so good I would swap back to that other operating system. -
iTunes loads in Windows 8.1, but when I run it, I get the message "iTunes Library .itl file cannot be found or created."

What's the default location for CrashReporter in Lion?
I know Library folder is hidden in OS X Lion. I'm unable find the folder named "CrashReporter". I would like to examine the folder for crash logs. Is the crash folder location changed in Lion?
Any further help would be appreciated. Thanks. The folder for crash logs is the Macintosh HD/Library/Logs/CrashReporter. If the folder doesn't exist, I'm assuming you haven't experienced any crashes. It will probably self populate if needed. I think the CrashReporter in the the Application Support folder is specific application crash logs, and not crash logs for system calls and processes. All of the logs can be viewed easily in the "Console" Application located in Macintosh HD/Applications/Utilities. This application neatly divides up the different types of logs in a log list, and displayes the selected log in the main portion of the window. There are also developer tools built in via the menu bar items to work with the logs.
Another useful feature of the Console is the abilit to view logs from mobile devices such as iOS devices. In the log list they are grouped under the ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/MobileDevice directory.
