Help.  What to do? New Update destroyed all my network connections

I can no longer connect to my wireless system (it was working this morning before I downloaded updates--security, itunes and airport). The first thing support tells me to do is update my OS. Which I would do if I could connect to the internet--but I can't. Network Setup Asst is asking me questions I don't know how to answer: IP Address, Subnet Mast, Router, DNS Servers, Search Domains, lPv6 address. Can anyone help me? Thanks, Jill

Try the following:
To setup AirPort for High-Speed Cable Internet connectivity:
System Preferences > Network > Show > Network Port Configurations
- Verify that an AirPort option exists. If it does not, click "New" to create one. - Verify that AirPort is "On" (checked)
- Verify that AirPort is at the top of the list. If it isn't, you can drag it to the top.
Systems Preferences > Network > Show > AirPort
AirPort tab
- By default, join: Automatic
TCP/IP tab
- Configure IPv4: Using DHCP
- Configure IPv6: Automatically or Off
Proxies tab
- Configure Proxies: Manually
- Select a proxy server to configure: <All proxies should be unchecked unless you specifically require a proxy for Internet access.>
- Exclude simple hostnames (unchecked)
- Bypass proxy settings for these Hosts & Domains: <leave blank>
- Use Passive FTP Mode (PASV) (checked)

Download the full version of the software then shift click the restore button. This will ask you where the firmware files are. Once you point to the firmware then you can install the official version

  • SQL developer drop all my network connections

    Hi all,
I have used different versions of SQL Developer and I have read many forum posts but I cannot find solution for my network problem.
I can connect to my databases without any problem, but when my session goes to snipped state (due to idle_time setting) after some time ALL my network connections are dropped (e.g. my mail client give me message that cannot connect to the server, my ftp client session is dropped, my ssh session are dropped...). It is horrible because sometime I need connect to my PC remotely and due to this problem I cannot. It is not problem of my PC, I have used 2 different PCs and all is the same. If I don't start SQL Developer, I can have ssh session open for week without any problem.
Last year I used to start keepalive extension, but is really annoying for every oracle session manualy enable keepalive.
And when I open 10 db sessions and for one session I forgot click enable keepalive then all my network connections are dropped.
Yesterday I have installed current version of SQL Developer hoping that the problem is solved but today morning I find all my network sessions dropped (e.g. I need 8 ssh sessions reconnect).
Does anybody have any idea how to solve this?
    Thanks.
    Marian

    Hi Marian,
I am not quite sure how using SQL Developer could make all client software accessing the network lose their connections. Do you use some kind of VPN (Virtual Private Network) software? Do you always try to use SQL Developer with the non-Oracle KeepAlive plug-in?
Maybe local policy imposes some limit on the total number of simultaneous connections (active or inactive) you can have, and it gets exceeded only when you run SQL Developer. Are any other application clients used to access databases from your machine(s)?
If the real network connection is stable, typically one need only worry about database session time-outs (idle limit reached) or VPN time-outs. I suggest asking for help from someone inside your organization responsible for networks. It seems like something is forcing a VPN disconnect.

  • HT4796 Can Windows 7 be installed on my new MacBook Pro, through my network connection?  The disc would be in my Windows desktop.

Can Windows 7 be installed on my new MacBook Pro, through my network connection?  The disc would be in my Windows desktop.

I wouldn't recommend installing through a network connection.
    For a Virtual Machine:
If you have the Win 7 media (DVD), use an app like PowerISO or MagicISO to make an ISO file of the install disc and use that.
    For BootCamp:
Use the original install media and BootCamp Assistant, to install from your DVD Drive.

  • I keep getting the message that I need to download the images update to open old documents.  The update was downloaded on 11/24/13.  Checking for new updates shows all updates have been made.  What is the issue?

I keep getting the message that I need to download the new update for ipages when opening old documents.  The latest update that I have download was done 11/24/13.  When I check for updates it shows that there are no new updates available.  I downloaded Maverick a few weeks back on to my iMac.  What is the issue

You have both your older iWork apps and the newer Maverick apps on your computer.
The new Maverick apps are in the Applications folder.
The older iWork apps are in the Applications/iWork folder.
Of the two, the older iWork apps are more useful so don't throw them out.

  • What does the new update for the ipod do?

I keep looking. I have an Ipod from 2003 20gb. Iv'e never updated the software so I found the updates but I cant find anywhere that states what the updates do for my Ipod Im tired of looking. Please help!

    Hi Jeff,
I also have an old 20GB i-Pod and I too wanted to know what was in the new version, but like you I couldn't find a list of features or bug fixes or whatever.
I was happy with the i-Pod and I believe in the old saying "if it ain't broke, don't fix it", however, I also heard that the new i-Pods have on-the-go playlists, which is a feature I would really like. So, long story short, I used the new updater, the i-Pod now runs ver1.5 but there is no on-the-go feature. I'm guessing it's not supported for my old Hardware. As a compensation, though, I swear it sounds a bit better than before - dunno if there is a new decoder algorithm in the update. Haven't really answered your question, I just want to warn you that if you want to update for a particular feature, it might not be there. Apple really should publish a feature list for all versions. Good luck Jeff.

  • New update erased all my data

    Hello,

  • Will updating my ipod touch with the new update erase all my pictures/music/apps?

I want to get the new update, but I have music on my ipod from other people's computers. Is updating my ipod going to erase everything on it and start all over?

The update itself will not affect your music. However, anytime you do a major update like this one there is a risk that there could be other issues that would require you to restore your device (not likely, but possible). Therefore, you should back up your device before you do the upgrade.
Back it up to iTunes on a computer, or to iCloud. Then do the upgrade to iOS 7.
That way, if you do have an issue that requires a restore, you can restore it to the backup you created.
    Cheers,
    GB

  • What should the"default behavior" be for WiFi network connections?

I Have been able to at least temporarily fix the plethora of problems encountered after downloading Mountain Lion to my 2009 17" MBP just ten days ago.  Thanks to the time and effort of so many posters that are much more savvy than me, I successfully executed the steps suggested in many of the posts and with good results.  It surely beats running down to the Apple store and being told that I am the only one with a problem.
Okay,  I've  realized that I don't really know what the default behavior of the WiFi network connection should be?
    Specifically:
Should the Wi-Fi drop down in Network always be" looking for networks", even though I am obviously on my Network?
Should the Wi-Fi be connected at all times even when your computer is in sleep mode- or deep sleep mode?  There have been so many problems with Wi-Fi dropping off, slow or hanging loads, etc.
I unchecked "ask to join networks, in Network preferences thinking it might stop looking for networks when it doesn't need to because I'm already on mine.  I do see my neighbors (four neighbors) in the drop down in Network.
How do you get into Time Capsule's settings, to check speeds, especially ping?  What should the ideal settings be?
How do you know if your DHCP license is renewed? I've heard that feature isn't working and may be the culprit to some of the Wi-Fi problems.
I'll look forward to your help in understanding more about this.  I've been in the support  area a lot lately, I've read plenty of definitions, and explanations of the different options to choose from in Apple's support area, but nowhere have I seen anything that explains what the default behavior should be or perform  like.
    Thanks, as always.

Generally, you don't want to tweak the wifi settings. It pretty much takes care of itself. The caveat to that is, of course, if you're experiencing problems.
The 'looking for networks' behaviour only happens when you log in, wake the mac from sleep OR when you click on the wifi icon. You clicking on it tells the mac  "I want to see what networks are available" - so it does a scan for you to check to see if any new networks have appeared since you last clicked on it (or woke/logged in). In short, if you don't want it to look for new networks, don't click on the icon!
Unchecking the 'ask to join networks' option only applies when your mac detects a new network (such as when it wakes) that you haven't already authorised; it'll ask you to confirm whether you want to join it or not. Otherwise, if the network is open it'll join automatically. You should keep this selected if you travel around with your Mac. It's a good idea to know what network you're on before you start plugging in passwords or typing other things into the mac.
There is a utility that you can use for ping and traceroute called 'Network Utility'. Click on the Spotlight icon in the top right of your screen and type "Network' and you should see it at the top of the list. Hit 'return' to open it.
DHCP licences are normally renewed automatically by your router every 24 hours. Again, there's no reason to be messing about with that unless you're experiencing problems.
If you're experiencing wifi dropout, let us know, and we'll make some suggestions, but if you're not, you're best leaving your mac to manage the background processes. It knows what it's doing!

  • ITunes store will not update my apps: "The network connection was reset."

Why can't I update my apps as usual?  I suddenly keep getting the message "There was a problem downloading [name of application].  The network connection was reset."

    De nada amigo.
Thank You for extending the courtesy of awarding points to comments that are helpful or provide answers in the Apple Support Communities, as this is not mandatory, but it is much appreciated!

  • 4.2 Update Failure. "The network connection timed out"

After downloading 4.2 just before installation the error message pops up:
"The was a problem downloading the software for the iPhone "XXX". The network connection timed out.
Make sure your network setting are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later"
This happens on different machines in different locations (IPs).
What is it and to fix it???

I have had the same problem trying to update to 4.3 on both my iphone 4 and my kids' ipod touches. The problem seems to come after the huge 400-700MB downloads when itunes extracts the software or verifies the download with Apple. This is what seems to get blocked by the firewall.
Turning off Kaspersky Internet security for the duration of the software download and update sorted the problem.
I could not find a different solution. Once it is completed then you can re-enable your security software.
If you are really paranoid about turning off your security software then I guess you will need to mess around with the firewall settings to allow itunes free access through the firewall but it may take some trial and error.
