Help! Where is Quartz Extreme support on my MBP 17"?

Hi,
Just recently upgraded 10.5.8 to 10.6 and than updated over the internet to 10.6.1 The upgrading/updating process was smooth and fast lake a charm. Only one thing I noticed there is no more transparent menu bar in the system. I checked the box in the pref-desktop - doesn't help. Rebooted few times. Nothing. Even profile says that I don't have Quartz Extreme any more.
I had it before and it was working fine. What happened with my video card?
Please Help.

  • FCP Won't Load After Quartz Extreme Support Dissapears, then reappears

I did the latest Software Update yesterday and weirdly, the Quartz Extreme support on my video card (NVidia GForce FX 5200) disappeared. Then it reappeared after doing nothing. Should I download a new driver? And if so, where do I get it? Without QE, FCP or and FCS 2 software will not load. There was no place on the Tiger pages to post this question. Thanks.

Two things: VST's don't work with Logic anyway, and they won't work in any program if you put them in the components folder. The Components folder is for AU plugins (that work with Logic) and the VST folder is for, well, you can guess...
But your real problem is Rewire. You must either update it to a compatible version, or remove the folder Propellerheads from *Library>Application Support*.

  • Quartz Extreme Support

Can anyone explain this error code to me? "This software requires certain hardware or software which is missing." I got that after installing FCP 5.1 and doing a software update.
    Help

On one of my Dual G5s, after I did an upgrade with my crossgrade Final Cut Studio Disks and a Software update, I finished editing a project I was working on. I then Shut the system down for about two hours. When I tried to launch FCP, I got the error "This software requires certain hardware or software which is missing." Under that phrase were the words "Quartz Extreme Support" and the quit button.

  • Quartz Extreme Support on Mini

Does the Mac Mini (Late 2009) support Quartz Extreme that is needed for iMovie? I have my mini connected to my LCD TV via HDMI and I keep getting this error when I fire up iMovie.

That is a particularly fine winter gift- congrats on that! Try hooking up the mini to that and let us know what happens.
You can verify if the display is Quartz Extreme Compatable by clicking on About this mac, and then looking under the displays setting. For example, my current TV is a Sony Bravia from about 2 years ago, and with my mini connected to it, Quartz Extreme shows as Enabled in my mac settings
    good luck-

  • Trashed my prefs and now have Quartz extreme support missing

Idiotic me trashed my prefs and didn't open FCP before emptying the trash and now get the Quartz Extreme missing message. Do I have to re-install Final Cut Studio or can I download the missing software from Apple or ?? What's the best method?
    thanks

    Happy you solved the problem!
Next time you can use FCP Rescue to delete and backup your preferences. You can restore them if you need that way.

  • Suddenly  Quartz Extreme Not Supported

Just got my new 20" iMac G5. was enjoying the RSS and iTunes artwork screensavers only this morning and now after migrating from my G5 1.6 they're gone and system profiler now says Quartz Extreme Not Supported. Zapped Pram all software updated and done a couple of re-starts.
Can't think what I've done (or not) to screw up this feature
    Any help welcome

Ok update.... I followed directions here http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20081110225534811 and Quartz Extreme is supported on both now, but i'm still getting the ugly scan line.

I also have a AJA Kona LHe hooked up. Thanks.

Pretty much from what I see, there is a conflict with the AJA drivers because every time I uninstall the AJA drivers then check the system profiler, both displays show that Quartz Extreme is supported. But once I install any version of the AJA drivers for Final Cut Studio 2 (5.1, 5.1 NDD, and 6) it will disable the support for Quartz Extreme for one of my displays. So the only thing I can do is hope there is a 6.1 or something that will take care of that issue. I read the update news for 6, and there was no fix for what causes this problem. Otherwise it would have said it fixed the problem that required them to make a NDD version of the last driver. I emailed AJA the other night about this, but haven't heard back from them. I hope they have a good reply.

  • But I DO have Quartz Extreme

I upgraded to 06 because of the new features in iMoive and iPhoto. No where on the package did it state that Quartz Extreme was required. So after attempting a couple of times to apply a theme I looked into it and discovered the requirement.
Then I checked my system. I have 2 cards, 1 has QE and one does not. I read that even if you have one that does, the one that does not will keep themes from working. So I removed the one that did not...and...still no worky.
Here's what it says under Graphics/Displays in Profiler

    KajuRob,
The ATI 9000 Pro can support two displays.
At the moment, it appears you only have a Rosewill 9111E display attached.
You graphics card does not support Core Image and I think that may be part of your problem with themes as they leverage that technology.

  • MXO & Quartz Extreme

    Hi Folks,
Wonder if anyone can help with this.
Below is my GPU detail from system info showing no Quartz Extreme support through the MXO (attached to DVI port 2). I found this link:
    http://www.blackmagic-design.com/support/detail.asp?techID=184
from back in '07 seemingly demonstrating a problem with port 2 -no GPU mentioned-& Quartz Extreme. My Mac will not open iMovie as it says no QE support, I'm guessing it's detecting the unsupported MXO & saying 'no way baby'. It can't be a common problem with all GPUs can it?
I have not as yet switched the monitors around to test, (nest of vipers cable-wise), but have searched about to no avail so far in Forum land.
Is there a workaround or command line insert to get around this?
    Cheers,
    Nick

    Hi fellow Nick.
I saw another thread that suggested re-applying the 10.5.7 *Combo Updater*.
    Here:http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9524601&#9524601
No idea if it worked -the OP never replied. 10.5.8 is out now anyway, so the 10.5.7 updater might be no longer available.

  • 10.4.4 broke Quartz Extreme

Hopefully an easy question for somebody here:
I installed the full suite of new Software Update fixes last night (10.4.4, Quicktime, iTunes, etc.) and it appeared to run and restart without a hitch. However, an hour later when I launched Soundtrack Pro 1.02 -- my most important app -- it failed with the following error:
    Configuration Error:
This software requires certain hardware or software which is missing.
    * Quartz Extreme Support.
It ran fine earlier in the day, before the update. At first I thought this was a Soundtrack Pro problem, but a few other signs on my Mini indicate that maybe there is a problem with Quartz Extreme now. E.g., the Electric Sheep screensaver is slow and jerky, where previously it was smooth.
Can anyone give me some guidance on where to look to see if any configuration settings might be broken, or how to reset them? Thanks in advance.
Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

I appear to be in the same boat as you. My MDD has a Radeon 9000 Pro which has been Quartz Extreme capable since the day I purchased the machine.
After the 10.4.4 update I can no longer launch DVD Player (it says "A valid video device could not be found for playback. [-70017]"), Exposé is choppy, and video files in Quicktime Player take tons of CPU usage and yet play choppy.
System Profiler now says that Quartz Extreme is "Not Supported". What happened?

  • Quartz Extreme Missing?

    Hello,
I recently tried to run my copy of Final Cut Express 3.5 but it said I am missing the Quartz Extreme Support. I'm using a MacBook. I read on the minimum requirements that Final Cut Express will work with MacBooks, and my copy of Final Cut Express worked fine when my MacBook ran Tiger. I recently upgraded to Leopard and now it doesn't work anymore.
    Anyone have any solutions?

I'm having the same problem. When I tried to open FCE yesterday, I got the error warning:
    • Final Cut Express requires that your system have a Quartz Extreme capable video card.
I'm using FCE4 on a MacBook Pro and nothing has changed on my computer since I last used FCE on Thursday.
Wasn't there a FCE software update a week or so ago? Should I go back in the Time Machine to before that update? I tried the simple solution listed below, but my system was already set for millions of colors.

    • AGP graphics card"
Any ideas or did I find a true Apple Bug with their own hardware and software?

Yes Final Cut Express HD 3.0 did work for 10.4.10 and was installed when I got MacBook by Apple.

  • Quartz extreme problem prevents installation

i did the reseach and according to apple the card that is in my computer supportds QE.
    i have a dual 867 g4 with a NVIDIA GeForce4 MX card.
    i am running 10.4.6
i dont want to spend money on another card, i need to save for a HD camera.
Can anyone tell me whats going on..
is this a 10.4.6 problem, i never knew QE existed until i got final cut exp hd.
    thanks
    dual 867 g4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

That's not the version number. The name of the application is Final Cut Express HD. It's been that since 3. There's 3.0.1 and 3.5. Which of these three versions is it? It should say in the documentation that came with the application. If you have an installation issue you should contact Apple. They give tech support for installation.

  • Radeon 9600 Pro - Quartz Extreme not supported? Help!

I've just got a Radeon 9600 Pro PC/Mac edition, as the 9600XT that came with the G5 died on me last week. It's taken an age to get it working, I could only boot in safe mode, in the end I deleted all my existing ATI extensions, installed the ATI Displays 4.5.7 and it works. BUT ... (and it's a big but)... performance is VERY slow and System Profiler says Core Image and Quartz Extreme are not supported. If anyone's got any ideas I'd be most grateful.
    Thanks. Richard.

OK here's the latest. I did an Archive and Install (keeping my users home folders, though), and when the G5 restarted after the install it hung - the grey screen with apple appears, the little cog rotates under the apple, then that freezes and, although you can hear the hard drive working for a little while, it gets no further.
So I booted in safe mode, which works fine - ran the 10.4.10 combo updater, reset PRAM and NVRAM, same again - won't boot. Then I installed the ATI drivers from their website - same again. I can only boot in safe mode.
So i'm back where I was when I first installed the card - the only way I could boot other than in safe mode was to delete all the ATI extensions from /System, after that it booted but reported Quartz Extreme and Core Image not supported.
ATI support still haven't replied to phone calls and emails from Monday. So I' kind of at my wits end with this. Surely if I can boot in safe mode there can't be a hardware issue with the card, can there? Could there be something wrong with my AGP slot??
    Any ideas gratefully received.

  • New GFX card, Quartz Extreme error, and suddenly FCP 6 will not run. Help me fix this problem please!

My old GFX card nVidia GeForce 7300GT which is busted.
I replaced it with a nVidia NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500 from a Mac Pro of the same generation.
I'm now getting a Quartz Extreme error whenever I try to run Final Cut Pro 6 or Compressor. "This system does not meet the following minimum requirements: Final Cut Pro 6 requires that your system have a Quartz Extreme capable video card."
Well, I checked the specs of the card and it does support Quartz Extreme. So why isn't FCP 6 running?
Looking under the System Profiler > Graphics/Displays, it doesn't say the Cinema HD Display supports Quartz Extreme, but how could that be, because the Quadro 4500's specs online says it does?!! This was the better GFX card made for the same generation of Mac Pro but somehow doesn't work!
This is also effecting my DVD player App with an error: "A valid video device could not be found for playback: -70017". Which has never happened before either.
I've researched online and can't find anything that works.
The card has power running to it and the monitor is hooked into the closest DVI port to the logic board which most of people with the same problem have done to fix this. I've also gone into the Disk Utility and ran both Verify and Repair permissions and the same for the boot disk.
Nothing. I'm stumped. Short of trying to flash the ROM on the GFX card I'm not sure what to do. And I'm not comfortable doing that. Help please?
I'm using Final Cut Pro 6 and subsequent older versions of Motion and Compressor, not FCP X or companion series.
