Help! White balance dropper/loupe disappears!

I was just going through a wedding to do a last run for white balance and color corrections and my white balance loupe appears and disappears in a split second!
Previously, I was making several WB corrections to a specific image, decided I wasn't getting anywhere and wanted to see the (M)aster image. From the master image I clicked on the WB dropped tool and it flipped back to my "version" of the file and now it just disappears every time!
Any ideas??

I lost the little white balance dropper thingy and the option to change exposure and cannot figure out how to get them back! Help! Thank you!

Are you saying you've lost the "Basic" tool tab?
If yes, just right-click on one of the other tabs and select "Basic" from the context menu that's presented.

  • White balance dropper -- any way to keep it "on"?

    Hi all,
If I click on the White Balance dropper, then head all the way over to the picture to click on a grey spot, if I don't like the results, I have to go all the way back to the dropper, click on it again, and come back to another gray spot.
Is there a way to keep the dropper "on" until I turn it off? Or I suppose there's a keyboard shortcut? How do you all do this, checking a number of spots for white balance?
    Thanks!

There is a keyboard shortcut for the white balance dropper as well, but it's not documented anywhere. I'm unsure why this is.
And it only works if you have the adjustment panel showing .
Anyway, command-shift-w will bring up the white balance dropper, so you don't have to keep mousing.
Also the shift key note above will work as well, in that you can continually sample. In fact if you keep the shift key held down and move the eyedropper it will show you continuous real-time white balance changes.

  • LR 1.2 - white balance dropper not working

When I click the white balance dropper, I get the magnifying glass. When I move it, the white balance in the navigator updates real time but if I click on my image it zooms instead of setting white balance. This worked fine with 1.1.
Should I uninstall 1.2 and reinstall 1.1? I'm not sure how to go back to 1.1.

I've had that happen a couple of times for no obvious reasons. I've also noted some general 'cursor confusion' but, again, I can't cause the problem.
    It's a minor annoyance.

  • My Vibrance and white balance tool have disappeared! Please help!

I ALWAYS use my vibrance and white balance tools on my side toolbar and now they're gone! I don't know how to get them back up and running. Thanks so much! By the way, this is in Lightroom 5. Thanks so much!

Rikk!!! I have spent hours trying to figure out how to get it back!! LOL. Thank you!!! What a silly, frusterating problem so easily solved. I really appreciate your reply!

  • HELP White Balance Tint Shift

My white balance brick produces a severe color shift. This just started yesterday after the ProApp 5.1 update. When I make an adjustment in the white balance brick the tint slider is all the way to the right (magenta) and shows a slight green tint. When I set the tint to 0 everything goes green. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling with no success. I'm just about at my last try with this program. I love everything about AP3 but I don't think I can take much more of all the issues. If anyone can offer some support I would greatly appreciate it.

This is a new version, I have never used Aperture before I've been a LR user. I'm certain I'm looking is the correct location, below are the only Plist items that are in the following location <USER>/Library/Application Support/Aperture/

  • White balance dropper

Is there a way to make the eyedropper for Lightroom White Balance persist? In ACR I can select the eyedropper and click around the image to see the white balance from various points. In Lightroom after I click a spot the eyedropper is no longer active and I have to go select it again...
This is really slow and it'd be handy if I could click multiple spots... Is there a way to do this?

The people that designed the keyboard shortcuts and the user commands for LR did a great job. It's just a joy to use with the keyboard. There are always 3 ways to do the same thing and one of them works just right for me.

  • LR4 beta white balance on cropped images

I'm not sure if this has been discussed, I could not find a post with silimar issues.
LR4 Beta 64 on WinVista : Nex 5N raw files
WB picker on a cropped image seems to give variable (and wrong) results
I wanted to tweak WB an image that I'd previously cropped and made some adjustments to....WB was already close, the picker on a white fishing bouy was at ~90/88/91. Clicking the picker on bouy gave a strong red shift, about +5 on the red.
1st time I did it I thought I'd jerked the mouse somewhere, tried it again.. and again with similar results. Repeated several time.
I opened LR3 and had no problems with the same image.
I reopened LR4B and got the same problem again.
Undid the crop and the WB adjustment was fine.
I went back to LR3 and cropepd the same image the same way and WB was fine.
Went back to Lr4B and again, WB was off.
I reset the image so that it had no other adjustments. WB was OK but again when I cropped it it was off.
Opened another image and did the same thing. ie full image WB was OK, cropped I got a +5 or so shift, although this time in blue.
Tried it with a different crop and got a -15 on red.
WB zoom level was at max

    Eric,
Take just about any photo and crop so all the sides are moved toward the middle. It isn't hard to find a point on the image where the white balance dropper looks like it's over a near-grey(and its numbers say near-grey), but when you click, the picture gets an extreme colour cast. And the point where you click doesn't go grey, either, but moves much farther from grey.
    Here's the crop:
Here's what happens when the eyedropper is over the almost-grey snow:
Note what's happening in the Navigator preview. It's as if the eyedropper were over the yellow jacket, but the numbers on the loupe show grey.

  • White Balance Selector Disappears when moved across the image

    Hi
I am using LR 4.4 on an iMac.
Does anyone know why the White Balance Selector tool would disappear when moved across an image?
it seems to change to a vertical line with an arror top and bottom.
The areas of the image on which it disappears seem to be consistent, in other words, it disappears on the same portion of the image eveytime.
UPDATE: Since posting the above a few minutes ago I've noticed that my cursor is behaving eractically. For example, on a different image to the one used above, in the library module using the Loupe the cursor changes from a magnifying glass to an arrow pointing to the right.  It does this on the same part of the image every time.
    Thank you for your help

Weird cursor problems are a FEATURE of the APPLE os.
There are complaints on the APPLE os system website since 2005.
The last time I checked there were 30 pages of discussions about this on the apple site
    https://discussions.apple.com/community/mac_os/os_x_mountain_lion.
I don't think APPLE has a clue as to how to fix this. It is seen in many apps, photoshop most commonly, lightroom, textedit, exxcel, and others.
Pray that something happens in soon to be released 10.8.4.

  • RGB % values no longer visible in white balance selection tool loupe

When using the white balance selection tool in LR3.3 RC the RGB values no longer show in the loupe window while moving the tool around the picture. The only way I can get the values to show is to stop moving the tool and then click any one of several keys (e.g. Ctrl, or Shift, or Alt, or \, etc.) As soon as I then move the tool the RGB values again disappear until I stop and again click one of the keys.  It had worked fine previously in LR3 (?before I updated from 3.2 to 3.3 - that is, the values would show continuously as I moved the tool around the image.   Any thoughts about what to do?
    Thanks.

Nice to see you here Tom..  Thanks for the update.  Is it somehow related to some of the other issues being reported about the TAT tool, just thinking they are both perhaps "pointer" related?

  • Cross Hairs Vanish in White Balance Loupe

If I click on the eyedropper under the White Balance option, the loupe appears on the screen with the white cross hairs in the center (along with RGB values). If I move to an area that forces the loupe to rotate (ie upper right corner of the image), the cross hairs and RGB values vanish, making it impossible to accurately select a neutral gray.

Yes, its a better loupe, but it has the same problem as the other one.
Sometimes it also loses the RGB information, although the conditions that make it happen are unclear. When it happens it also affects the RGB info below the histogram in the adjustment pane. Leaving the loupe does not bring it back. The loupe can cause the problem, but also zooming in.
Some images seem more prone to lose it than others. These images also have a problem with the accuracy of the loupe/pointer. The color information that is returned is for pixels at an offset from the pointer. If it gets too irritating I will crop the image by 1 pixel on all sides, which often helps.
I found that switching the viewer to another image and back again will restore the RGB info for a while.

  • Premiere Elements 13 Eyedropper for white balance, gray, and black NOT WORKING. Help!

I'm using Premiere Elements 13.1 on an iMac, and trying to adjust the white balance on a clip with ZERO success.  The main reason for this is that I cannot utilize the "eyedropper" selector; I know what should appear white, gray, and black, but cannot select those items.
In the Three-Way Color Corrector there are Eyedroppers to use to specify areas of known color range. I have tried without success to select ANY of the eyedroppers...
I have clicked on it - NOTHING
I have held the left mouse on it and attempted to drag it onto the frame - NOTHING
    I have right-clicked it - NOTHING
The eyedroppers are not greyed out and they do respond when clicked. I have hit Reset button galore. I have restarted the program.
I have held my mouth funny - NOTHING :-)
When my cursor is hovering over the tool, it changes to an eyedropper. If I click, nothing happens when the cursor is moved - the cursor changes right back into its regular arrow shape. The cursor does nothing to the image if an item is clicked....there is no change to anything on the monitor.
I am a longtime Photoshop user but new to Premiere Elements. This dropper seems to work nothing like the PS ones. In fact, it doesn't work at all...so far.
Can someone please tell me what I need to do to simply select the eyedropper and take it onto the image and select the white (or gray or black)??? Before I go bananas (may be too late)? THANK YOU!

Still not working. I think the root cause of the problem is the mechanics of using the tool itself; I hope this screen shot shows up below ...
Here I have APPLIED EFFECTS open, and have selected Midtones (Greys) to be expanded so that the eyedropper and other details appear:
Now, just below where it has a box and "Impacted frame area in white" (which I know is a checkbox allowing the area effected to be seen), there is a little color box and an eyedropper.
What EXACTLY do I do to select (activate) the eyedropper and subsequently tell the program what I feel should be grey in the selected clip?
As mentioned before, I can click it and the cursor briefly changes to the same shape as the eyedropper. But as soon as I move the cursor a fraction, it changes back to an arrow (normal cursor) shape. Even then, going to the area I need to select in the image, and then clicking it, does exactly nothing to the appearance of the image shown -- even if the colors start way off. No correction at all. It is as if the tool does nothing. The color wheels below all this DO work however - it's just the eyedropper that doesn't do anything. This just cannot be Adobe's intention. I am convinced there must be some flaw in how I am selecting the tool itself. And the user guide - needless to say - is worthless in explaining the mechanics.
So very frustrating. This appears to be the only thing wrong with the program - nothing else seems amiss.
NOTE: To add insult to injury, this promised white/gray/black balance feature and the three-way-color corrector is the SOLE REASON I purchased the software. Funny.

  • Camera Raw crashes with use of white balance eye dropper.

    Using PS CC2014.2.1
Since this update, whenever I use the white balance eyedropper in Camera Raw, if placed over an over exposed region, instead of the dialogue box popping up to warn that the area is too bright, the system just freezes. Have to launch task manager and close PS.
If eyedropper is placed on non-over exposed (not clipped) area, it seems alright. Anyone else experiencing this?

  • In Module, the Basic panel (white balance, color saturation and tonal scale) disappeared.  How can I restore these tools?

In Develop Module, the Basic Panel (white balance, color saturation and tonal scale) disappeared.  How can I restore these tools?

When you say the Basic panel has disappeared, do you mean the whole right side panel or individual tools such as the White Balance tool is gone? If it is the whole right side panel that is missing, you may have hidden it. Using the Tab key, you can cycle between hiding and showing the side panels. You can also move your mouse over to the far right side of your screen to get the panel restored but it will disappear when you move your mouse off the panel. There is also a small triangle on the left edge of the right panel that you can right click on in order to determine the show/hide behavior (I personally use the manual mode).
Regarding the individual windows contained in the left/right panels, they can be opened and closed by clicking of the triangle that is displayed next to name of the tool in its header bar. While you can elect what modules will be shown on the LR Top panel, I am not aware of any mechanism to completely hide individual tools in the left/right panels. If all else failes, you can hit the Shift/Tab key combo a few times to restore all of your windows the the default behavior.
