Help! - Windows Bonjour works Mac doesn't

Can someone please explain how it is possible for my Canon MF1450 to work through Bonjour on my PC, while on my Mac, adding the Bonjour printer installs a generic printer driver and does not work? Does the driver need modification to be Bonjour compatible, or does Bonjour handle everything between the USB printer driver and the AEBS connected printer? Canon tech support explained that the printer is not made to work over a network with a print server, but then I tried it with my PC and it works just fine! Do they mean that the Mac driver is not meant to work with Bonjour?
BTW, the printer works fine through a direct USB connection on the Mac. I had to load in the latest AE firmware to see the printer on my Mac. This Canon printer is very compact and does fast duplex printing.

The Canon Mac driver does not work over a network, the Canon Windows driver does.
This is the way Canon wrote them.

Hi Everyone,
When loading windows 7 on my Imac it said that the bootcamp drive was not NTSF formatted. It is currently 41g. I reformatted the drive (partition) to get it to load and it deleted the boot camp files. Currently I can use boot camp on the mac side to restart in windows but on the windows side boot camp does not exist and I have to restart and hit option to select the mac side. Anyone know how to force or reinstall the mac software needed on the windows side to select restart in mac? Thank you to everyone for your help.

I am running Windows 7 on a MacBook. When I upgraded my Vista to Win7, I lost all of my BootCamp functionality on Windows. I even lost all of my special function keys. I haven't tried, but I believe that my webcam doesn't work, fails to load the drivers. I read that Apple does not intend to update Bootcamp for Leopard, but are going to come out with an update for Snow-Leopard. So I ordered and installed Snow-Leopard.
However, after being frustrated by the lack of being able to pop back and forth, and not being able to use the F-key functions... I stuck the Snow-Leopard OS disk in while in Windows 7 and installed BootCamp. It did come up with a Known Compatibility issue, but I proceeded anyway. I just did it today and I havent tested everything... but all of my F-Keys work for the Apple functions and I am now able to pop back and forth using BootCamp from Windows to Mac, and vice-versa... Hopefully the updated version will be out soon, along with the drivers for the WebCam...

i've recently bought a macbook pro and am in the process of switching predominantly to the mac from my windows pc. I'ld really appreciate a guide/tutorial on how to transfer the files of my pc to my mac over a home network
okay .. here's wht iv got ..
1. macbook pro with hardly any data
2. laptop with windows xp home (which has a lot of my data) (ntfs formatted)
3. external hard drive with a lot of data (hard drive formatted with ntfs)
4. Router and wireless connection
what i want to do ...
transfer my data from external hard drive & my pc to my mac without using macdrive/macfuse. I want to enable file sharing over the network between the laptop (preferably the external hard disk attached to the laptop) and the macbook pro.
I haven't done network file sharing before... and it would be really nice if anyone could guide me through it ..

Help!!! Mac doesn't recognize PC files

I was working on a PC and saved some files onto a mobile harddrive. While still working on the PC, I created some new folders on the mobile drive and organized the files a little bit. Then I unplugged the mobile drive safely and connected it to my mac. The mac couldn't recognize the mobile drive any more and asked me whether I want to initialize the mobile drive.
I have a ibook G4 and the mobile drive had been worked fine on it before what happened today. I am very very very worried and don't know what to do. (I have important mac-only files on the mobile drive. I don't want anything bad happened to it!!!)
Please help and let me what to do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Then copy them over to the PC for safekeeping, attach the drive to your Mac, and initialize it, as MS-DOS (FAT) so it can be read by both Mac and PC.
Attach it to the PC, and copy the files back on.

Windows detects AE, Mac doesn't

Bought an AirPort Express today. Plugged it directly into my cable modem and after a few moments got a solid green light. My windows XP machine picks up the Apple Wireless network no problem. My mac, running Tiger, however, regardless of how much fiddling I do, will not see the AirPort Express.
I am running the latest OS X (10.4.5). I installed the AirMac and iTunes software included with the AE on CD.
Neither the Airport Setup assistant nor the airport menu in the menu bar picks up the AE. I thought I might have a bought a dud but since the windows machine picks up the AE without issue it must be a setting on my powerbook.
I've used countless wireless networks before (including with this cable modem) on my mac without any problem.
Any idea what might be causing this problem?

That was it. I connected to the airport utility with my XP box and looked at the settings -- it was above channel 11. I think what happened is the following:
I initially plugged my AE into the ethernet at my office which has several wireless networks floating about. The AE probably automatically configured itself to the next lowest channel which happened to be above 11. And because of that my Airport card couldn't pick it.
Why is it that Airport cards can't detect networks on higher channels?
Regardless, I reset the channel manually on the XP box and now everything is working perfectly. Thanks guys for all the input.

Indesign CS4 Help Menu not working Mac OSX 10.6.7

Hello.
The InDesign Help menu is a great thing. Use it every day.
I use it most to find commands that I cant remember the keystrokes to. I activate the menu and start typing "find font" or whatever.
The menu finds alternatives. So far so good. But when I want to choose one alternative, all that happens is the system error sound plays.
Does anybody know how to fix this?

All computers are personal computers, a PC though is also "non-Apple" in common usage.
Mac also is platform and OS.

I am reworking the MultiPageImporter2.5 script by Scott Zanelli; going to add some new features.
So far I added a drop down list so the user could choose on which pages to place a pdf/indd file: odd/even/both.
However I encountered a strange problem: on Windows it works as expected, but on Mac nothing happens when I click the popup. When I write a dialog, I almost always use automatic layout and never encountered such a problem before. But in this script the author uses fixed position for the controls so I followed his coding style:

The drop down list is visible both on Windows and Mac, but on Mac it’s not clickable. What am I doing wrong?
Another question: in the script, the author created three popups. In the code, each popup has a different height (the last element of the “bounds” array) – 60, 88, 33. Does it make sense to make them different if on the screen they look exactly the same (I mean height).
Here’s my version of the script.
I think the easiest solution for me here is to rework the dialog part from fixed to automatic layout.

In my version of the script, the user will have to choose a file to be placed directly in the dialog box. The selected file can be saved into a preset. I'm reworking it for another person (not for myself) and that's what he wants.

You're not alone - I'm installed Windows (8 Pro 64-bit) on a MacBook Air Mid 2013 yesterday from the OEM/system builder media, and Boot Camp Assistant 5.0.4 didn't recognize the DVD. It asked for an .iso disk image instead, and I created one in a UNIX geek way**, but if you're an average mac user, you'll want to create one using the Disk Utility:
1) Open the Disk Utility. This is in the Utilities folder (go to a finder window and type command-shift-u)
2) Click on your DVD to select it.
3) In the File menu, select New -> Disk Image from "HRM_CCSA_X64FRE_EN-US_DV5"… (or your Windows disk title)
4) In the Save sheet, select Image Format: DVD/CD master. The Disk Utility saves this with the file extension/type .cdr, but this is the same file format as .iso. When the Disk Utility has finished, find the file you save and change the file extension to .iso.
5) Launch Boot Camp Assistant and select the .iso file as the source of your Windows installation.
Since I have a MacBook Air, the windows source was copied by the Boot Camp Assistant to a USB flash drive. MacOS X restarted and Windows was installed automatically, but the Boot Camp driver installer wasn't automatically launched at the end of the Windows install. I opened the flash drive's BootCamp folder and double clicked setup.exe.
Voila! The best trackpad anywhere! Network! Sound! Brightness control from the keyboard! The best Windows 8 computer!
** In Terminal: diskutil list; diskutil unmount /Volumes/HRM_CCSA_X64FRE_EN-US_DV5; sudo dd if=/dev/disk2 of=win8pro.iso. Use the output of 'diskutil list' to match your Windows 8 CD/DVD to a disk# for the 'dd' command. Be very careful.

On my Macbook Pro you have to hold the power button down a moment till a little window pops up and asks what you would like to do. Also you can go to:
(  ) Menu > Shut down ...
to shutdown your Mac. Or are you saying that these options do not work?

I think there's some remmants left over from when Apple transferred stuff over. We can try a quick fix, but if that doesn't work, I think the only option is to clean install OSX and then install Windows.
open disk utility, confirm that you only have 1 partition (mac journaled)
restart and PRAM reset
open disk utility and repair permissions twice
restart boot camp assistant
Does it work?
If not, I would boot holding command+R, choose disk utility from the menu and completely erase your HD (formatting it as mac journaled again). Then, install OSX on this HD. Once OSX is installed, don't copy your files over from the backup yet. Instead, start boot camp assistant and see if you can get Windows installed. You can copy back your other files after we get Windows installed.

Windows 10 - Touch screen doesn't work

After updating my Lenovo Yoga 2 the Spotify Desktop application no longer understands the touch screen at all. It works normally with everything else. And by 'not at all' I literally mean that as if the screen would not be a touch screen. I can't left click, righ click, scroll, etc. Touch pad works normally.

I found a quick fix using Spotify's 'Connect' feature released a few updates ago. Doesn't work well if you don't have another device though. My set-up: Windows 10 on Dell Inspiron 3000 (upside-down on my desk so it's touch only), Macbook Pro, iPhone, Spotify Premium. Open Spotify on Windows Computer + second device (iPhone, iPad, Mac, other Windows, etc..) and make sure you're signed into your account on both devices. On iPhone/iPad:1. Select the song/playlist you want and play it (then pause it)
2.   At the very bottom of the iPhone screen press the white sound icon
3.   It should have taken you to a black screen with multiple white device images at the top, underneath that should be your iPhone/iPad in green and then your Window's Computer name in white
4.   Select your Windows computer name from that list (i.e. "Amy's Computer")
5.   Press Play (if it doesn't start playing after a few seconds, I've gotten it to work by going back to the sound icon and play with the volume a little)
6.   Boom! Remotely control Spotify on your windows from your phone Macbook (Probably not the easiest option unless you listen to music on a different computer than you use normally):1.   Select the song/playlist you want and play it (then pause it)
2.   At the bottom-right side of your application window is the volume level + a sound icon in grey - select it
3.   A small black callout window appears saying "CHOOSE DEVICE TO PLAY ON"
4.   Select your Windows computer name from that list (i.e. "Amy's Computer")
5.   Press Play (same as above if it doesn't start playing after a couple seconds)
6.   Boom! Remotely control Spotify on your windows from your Mac I would assume the logic is similar across all the platforms, but what I don't know is whether or not this works for non-premium members. It's a little annoying - but it works fine for my setup until Windows/Apps figure out where they've 'lost touch' ;)  Hope this helps!

I have a MacBook older model with me.I am running 10.7.6 on that, I was trying to use BootCamp to install windows on my mac. Since BootCamp can only work on a single Volume, I partitioned my Hard Disk to one volume.
Using BootCamp I installed windows and everything worked fine. After installing windows and testing everything, I switched back to OS X and this time I tried to make another partition on my single portioned Mac volume and named it Backup. That too worked. Now I have three Volumes
1)Development2)Backup3)BootCamp.
Next when I switched to Windows, It should the classic error, No Bootable device found, please insert a Bootable CD and press any key. When I tried to enter my Mac OS X install DVD and by pressing option key, it does not show me the proper Mac OS X development volume. It keeps going back to the No bootable device found message.
Any help will be much appreciated

you can't add a partition in between - you put Windows to a new partition number.
GPT (GUID)
EFI
Mac HFS
Lion Recovery
Windows
And now you have two HFS
One partition and one Windows (plus Lion Recovery).
If you were to have more, it can't be before Windows for one thing.
