Help!  Wireless Keyboard will not type!

Hi to all!
Long time existing problem. My wireless keyboard from time to time unresponsive. I cannot type anymore (Right now I type with the keyboard viewer). Reported to Apple before and got new keyboard but problem still existing. Very frustrating. I'm living on an island and it would be a huge effort to carry the unit back to the dealer.
I cannot type, caps lock and space bar not working. Other keys like delete, command, shift and upper line are working.
I repaired permission, restart and shut down several times already, but it won't work. Earlier times it was working after a restart but not now. It is indicated that keyboard and mouse is paired and on.
I have a mid 2009 Mac Pro model. I'm running on Snow Leopard with latest updates.
Now also my pointer didn't respond anymore and had to shut down by pressing the power button.
Finally now after starting again everything is back to normal.
Has anybody similar problems? What can I do? If cannot do my editing work, my computer is worthless for me. I had times i was even unable to save all my work because of that.
I hope some insider can help me, please.
Michael

  • Apple Wireless Keyboard will not become discoverable--solution

I use an Apple Wireless Keyboard and mouse with my MBP. Today when I arrived at work and set up everything, the laptop would not recognize the keyboard. I went through some troubleshooting steps as recommended by Apple, but to no avail. So I figured I would remove the keyboard from my bluetooth devices and go through the setup process again.
Not so good, because I soon realized that the keyboard wouldn't go into discoverable mode. Pressing the power button caused the light to glow for a few seconds--indicating the batteries were still charged--but it wouldn't blink. I tried removing the batteries, inserting new ones, all to no avail. Just kept pressing the button, getting the glow without blinks, and the keyboard wouldn't show up in the bluetooth setup list.
So I guessed that the keyboard still thought it was paired with the computer, even though the computer knew it wasn't. And then I read somewhere that the range for the keyboard was around 30 feet or so. So I walked out of our cubicle area and into a stairwell 50 feet away. Sure enough, after the initial glow, the light blinked! It was discoverable.
I ran back to my desk, hit "continue" in the bluetooth setup panel, and paired the keyboard again.
So, if your keyboard isn't paired with your computer, but still won't go into discoverable mode, maybe this trick will work for you.

Thanks Rob, and all of you! I tried all the steps above and almost gave up reading. Then I saw your note about the iPad! Duh (to myself not you!!!). My iPad is right nearby paired to this keyboard. I had totally forgotten about that! All I had to do was tell my iPad to forget it, then those lovely blinking lights. and now a new marriage is made (keyboard to laptop).
My gratitude to all of you who take the time to help each other and report results. YAY!!!

  • Wireless Keyboard Will Not Pair With iMac

After installing Security Update 2007-007 and Pro Applicatiion Support 4.0.1 my wireless keyboard stopped being recognized by my computer. When I run my Bluetooth Setup Assistant it sees my keyboard but I can not pair it. I even installed new battteries in it thinking that was the problem. I had a brand new never used wireless keyboard in the closet which i got out and installed batteries in it and it will also not pair with my iMac. Any sugggestions will be greatly appreciated since I am stumped! Oh, my wireless mouse is working fine.

The model number is M9270LL/A (its the one that comes with the iMac). When the screen comes up and asks for you to enter a set of numbers to pair with the computer and I type the nembers on the keyboard I then receive an message that an error has occured. I try and try again to pair the keyboard to the computer with the same results. Thanks.

  • Keyboard will  not type punctuation

    Hi all:
I know this is probably a reallllly dumb question but, how do I set up my keyboard so it types punctuation.
I have tried to find answers in FAQ pages, but nothing comes up.
You will notice that I do not post question marks or use contractions...
    haha..it is driving me nuts!

Hi, hybrid. Welcome to the Discussions.
    1. How did you type the periods (.) and exclamation marks you used in your post? Those are punctuation marks. Did you use the Keyboard Viewer or the Character Palette?
    2. Something amiss with the Shift key you normally use? Have you tested both Shift keys?
    3. What changes did you make to your Mac before this problem arose? If the problem arose after making a change, it's possible the change is the cause.
    Good luck!

  • Yosemite is locking my keyboard! When I start or retrieve a document the mouse will operate and I can highlight a word in Word but the keyboard will not type. I have had this start since the very first opening after updating.

I open a document to edit in Word 2013  (which shows as Word 2008) and try to save the document as a different one. The optical mouse on my MacBook Pro operates normally. Then I make the corrections as try "Save As". The screen opens and I can navigate to the folder and press "Open". I give it a name and the summary page opens to the text lines and I try to give it a new title. The keyboard does not respond and I have to cancel. I have automatic updates on and I get no update messages from Apple of Microsoft.
Anyone else havng same issues? This misspelled word will not correct by using the old method of right clicking and getting suggested corrections. it highlights but will not correct nor can I place the cursor on the exact place in the word (between the V and the n) to insert the missing "i".

Microsoft released Office for Mac 2011 update 14.4.5 for Yosemite compatibility. They are not motivated to do so for Office for Mac 2008, as it is an unsupported, end-of-life product.
Can you work through the process you described on another person's MBP with Office for Mac 2011 update 14.4.5 installed to determine if the problem you encountered is reproducible there?

  • Wireless keyboard will not enter discoverable mode

Hi, Changed the batteries on my bluetooth apple keyboard and now the keyboard won't pair with the iMac; nor will it enter "discoverable" mode (when I press the keyboard power button the keyboard light illuminates green for about a second and then goes dim.)

Anyone come up with a solution? I looked at the other closely related issues where the green light wouldn't come up and they suggested using aluminum foil.  I tried that and it didn'tdo the trick.
I'd hate to have to buy a new keyboard, even though this one is a few years old, it worked great until now.

  • Wireless key will not work

I just moved my mac mini to my new apartment and my wireless keyboard will not work. My man mini model is A1103. The problem is that I need to type in a password to get on my mac to get to the bluetooth config screen. So I'm stuck at the login screen with a keyboard that just blinks. Its also my TV so im goin nuts. PLZ help.

If you know someone with an USB keyboard, borrow it and use it to input the password. It doesn't need to have been made by Apple or designed to be used with a Mac.

  • Keyboard will not repeat

hi...since i upgraded from snow leopard to mountain lion...my wireless keyboard will not repeat keys
and yes i have tried adjusting it in prefs...also i am limited in my knowledge of puters..

Key repeat was semi-eliminated in 10.7. Characters that have accents (vowels, n) now show options for accents when they're held down in Apple's applications. Consonants, for the most part will repeat.
To re-enable key repeat, copy and paste this into Terminal and restart:
defaults write -g ApplePressAndHoldEnabled -bool false
(This may not work with some custom keyboard layouts or in all applications.) To go back to the default setting, enter the same command into Terminal, substituting 'true' for 'false'.
