Help with 1 gen shuffle

My son got a shuffle as a gift. It was purchased on
ebay from china. The software will not load and the
lights and switch on the back do not match any of the
descriptions I have seen mentioned here. Is there
any way to make this work?
If NOT a genuine Apple iPod Shuffle... there's not a whole lot we here can do. Have you just tried to drag mp3s onto it and PLAY?

Did you try this way? Copying personal photos and videos from iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your computer
If this does not work, you might have to use 3rd party software like Touchcopy for example

Help with iPod Shuffle - 1st generation - After restoring

Okay, i needed to restore my iPod shuffle (1st gen), as it was n't letting me put songs on. So when it restored, it started to autofill from the music library randomly, so all my songs were jumbled up. I didn't want this, so I tried to autofill it myself without the 'choose items randomly' box ticked, but it wouldn't synch. So, I restored it again, and tried again. As it was restoring, I noticed in a box that came up, I think were you type in the name of your iPod, there was a box that said something along the lines of 'Autofill from music library automatically when restored', so i unticked it. When it was restored again, and now completely empty, it wouldn't let me autofill manually again. So, just to get songs on my iPod, i have to have them on random, which I do NOT want.
Does anybody know what to do? I've tried that reset utlity thing, but that just comes up with the same thing.

HELP with itouch shuffle

PLEASE help me--I've wasted so much of my day...I have an itouch, and it is connected to a fancy system in my car. The itouch sits in the glove box all the time (REALLY hard for me to get to).
Each time I change the playlist, I have to push the "shuffle" button. This is not convenenient, as I have to stop driving, crawl over to the glove box, open it up, disconnect the itouch from the cable, hit shuffle, plug it back in, shut the glovebox, etc.
Is there any way to set the itouch to default on shuffle? It would have to be set to shuffle automatically each time I turn it on and off (the car turns it on and off).

does it not stay in shuffle mode once the shuffle button is selected? (tap the screen when playing music - then tap the crossed over arrows on the right hand side under the scrubber bar to select shuffle)
(i never actually turn my ipod off, just leave it in sleep mode, and i'm pretty sure once it is in shuffle mode it stays that way until i tap the shuffle button)

why do they need to be in a playlist? you can shuffle all your songs by just going to the song section, going to the top of the screen (double tap the top to get there quicker) and clicking 'shuffle'. or indeed by selecting any song and then hitting the shuffle option.

Help with using Shuffle with Windows XP

I have the 30 GB video and a shuffle.
My wife uses the shuffle and she uses her own user account on XP, but uses my account on Itunes.
I changed the library my wife uses to the one I use for Itunes, so all our songs are coming out of a same shared library as oppsoed to have two seperate libraries.
But, when I plug in my wifes shuffle under my account, it asks me my songs are from a different library, and then I have to erase the songs off her shuffle. I have tried exporting her playist, but it too erases some songs I bought from Itunes.
Do I have a configuration problem here. I want my wife and I to use the IPOd interchangably under different user accounts (She will destroy my computer is she uses an administrator account).
Once again, all the files are coming out of the same library, but for some reason it says they are different libraries.
Any thoughts? I hope I explained it correctly.

Does iTunes appear (in Explore) in both your user account AND your wife's? If so, you should probably delete iTunes from her account. Then the only Library would be the one associated with iTunes in your account.

Need Help with 2nd gen shuffle

I recently purchased a 2nd gen shuffle from a friend. He used Mac and I have Windows Vista so I knew I would have to restore so it would configure to my Windows Vista machine. I did this, renamed and synced some music to it, charged it with no problem. My husband took it with him to work and listened with no problems. He completely used it til the battery went down and needed charging. I hooked it up thru high speed USB port. Itunes didn't recognize it, there were no lights...not even a red or orange light at all. My computer nor device manager recognize it and still no lights on the shuffle period. I've had it hooked up to different ports and no help. I have a nano that works perfectly thru the same port I used so I know it isn't the port. I've tried restarting the computer....no help. I saw the seperate program that you can download for restoring but it says it can't be used with windows vista so I can't try that. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? I really could use some help with this. Thanks in advance for any insight.

And you will have to take me seriously here but, by using the on/off switch, turn it on, count 15 Mississippi and turn it off, counting 15 Mississippi. Do this three times, leave it in the off position and reconnect the ipod to the dock, then the dock to the computer.

Help with adding new song to 2007 iPod shuffle

I have an iPod shuffle from 2007 and just recently went to add new songs to it. Itunes program keeps telling me I have to erase everything and reload w/ new playlist I've added?? Confused, don't remember it working like this last year when I added songs. Any help??

With the 1st and 2nd gen iPod shuffle, it can only be associated with one iTunes library at a time. That has always been the design. It is basically like a mobile playlist for iTunes the library. The 3rd and 4th gen shuffles work more like the "bigger" iPods that have a screen, which is different from the very simple 1st and 2nd gen.
If you previously used this shuffle with a different iTunes library, iTunes is asking if you want to associate the shuffle with the iTunes library you are now using.

I have a 1st gen shuffle and a nano that I would like to use with a new computer. What do I need to do?

I have a first gen iPod Shuffle with its software installed on a Windows XP computer. I installed the software for an iPod Nano, and was then unable to access my music library with the Shuffle. This is not my main issue that my question is about. I would like to be able to use both of these devices on a new Windows7 computer. What, exactly, do I need to do? (ie - deauthorize my old computer, uninstall or install/reinstall iTunes, etc.) Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.

Itunes is itunes. I don't know what you mean by "Nano's iTunes software". You need to install itunes.

Do New Earphones work with the 2nd Gen Shuffle?

So my dog chewed up my 2nd Gen Ipod Shuffle earphones and I wanted to replace them. When I went to the the apple online store they are only selling the new earphones for the 3rd Gen Shuffle, that has a remote and a mic. It only says it supports the 3rd Gen Shuffle. Would I still be able to hear music on the new earphones? I don't really care about the remote and mic capabilities.

YES! I just used my 3rd Gen (replacement) earphones with my 2nd Gen
shuffle this evening... they worked fine.

1st gen shuffle with radar detector

I used to connect my radar detector and mp3 player together so that the sound would play out of the same place. I've recently acquired a 1st gen shuffle and it won't play correctly when connected with the radar. Neither max volume or sound check are enabled in the settings. What's up with this?

Help with Remote on iPod Touch 2nd Gen.???

i am in desparate need of help with remote for my iPod Touch 2nd Gen. i have downloaded the app and turned on home sharing in both iTunes on the Mac and on the iPod through Remote. yet when i go to add an iTunes Library within the app, it gives me this freaky passcode and i am REALLY REALLY unsure of how to use it on the Mac.
Note- on the Mac its says to go in through devices and turn it on, but the only way i know how to do it is through Preferences and it doesn't help much at all

Help with itunes 7 and shuffle 1

the shuffle will only play some songs. how do i get the shuffle to play all songs? seems like a glitch since we updated to itunes 7. i have restored the shuffle, reauthorized comp w/itunes, restored the library. not sure what else to try.

I'm having a related problem.
whenever I try to load a playlist onto my shuffle (1st gen, 1GB), the download stalls/hangs-up on random songs. sometimes after 3 songs, sometimes after 100. I've left the computer on overnight and the stall condition doesn't change. when I try to eject the shuffle, iTunes will lock-up (application 'not responding' in force quit mode). when I try to restart or shut down the iMac, I get the "spinning beachball of death" and have to hard shut down the system. the shuffle won't play any of the songs that appeared to load before the stall.
I downloaded & ran the shuffle 1G reset utility several times without changing the results.
after all this, I thought the shuffle had finally given up the ghost. in a last ditch effort, I took the iPod to work, and on the HP/windoze XP system (iTunes 6 installed) that I use, it recognizes the shuffle, allows me to reassign it to the windoze machine and download whatever songs I want, without stalls, hangups or system lock-ups.
weird...is this an iTunes v7 vs. v6 issue/incompatibility with the original shuffle? I can't believe that Windows is working better than my Mac with my shuffle. YIKES!
can anyone suggest possible causes & actions I can attempt to get my iMac and shuffle back on speaking terms? thanks in advance for your assistance.

Newbie Help - 5th gen with no stuff!

Hello all - I recently got a 5th gen iPod from a friend that owed me $$ and all i got was the unit (black/silver - 30GB). Besides a charger, headphones, etc - what do I need to join the revolution? I am totally new to this but feel that this iPod is the bees knees. Any help with software, connections, videos, etc? Any direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for helping a newbie out!

Well the main thing you need, besides headphones, is a dock cable to plug the iPod into your computer. You can then put stuff on the iPod with that cable and the cable also charges the iPod from the USB port.
One nice product out there is Griffin's Powerblock which can be seen here...

$30 and can be bought at places like Best Buy. The nice thing about this is that not only is it a charger that plugs into the wall and gives you a standard USB port to charge your iPod and any other USB chargable devices without needing a computer (great for traveling), Griffin was even kind enough to include an iPod USB Dock cable that you need anyway.
In the meantime, if you haven't already, download and install iTunes on your computer and start importing your CD library into it.
