Help with 80gb classic

i have an 80gb classic that i have over 5000 songs on.my pc is all screwed up and i need to reinstall windows.all of my music is on an external HD and i am worried when i am done reinstalling windows and i hook the ipod up to itunes that all my songs will be deleted from the ipod.will that happen and if so how can i avoid it?

If you can, load iTunes before you begin reinstalling everything ...
Go to File > Export Library ...
Export your library file to your portable HD somewhere you'll remember you put it ... make a note of the DRIVE LETTER of your Portable HD (i.e. D:, J:, etc)
Now reinstall Windows and other programs, including iTunes + Quicktime. Run iTunes it's first time normally, but don't let it "detect" your system's music or anything. Then exit, maybe reboot for fun, hook up your portable HD ... make sure it's the same drive letter as before (if not, you'll need to look up how to switch the drive letter, but it's not too hard in Windows) ... then load the Library file you exported earlier.
Your original iTunes Library should be there, and working. When you exit, it will save this iTunes Library as the default, so you won't always have to load from that exported file.

  • Help with ipod classic 80gb 2nd new ipod not working

I need some help with my ipod, this is the second ipod I have had in the same number of weeks the first one worked fine for about 8 days and then when syncing one night it froze and then would not disconnect, I searched the support section and worked how to reset the ipod which | did many times, in the end I restored the ipod to the factory settings and synced again the end result of this was that the ipod would not turn on despite everything that I tried. The apple log would appear and the ipod would then try desperatley to switch itself on with the apple logo appearing and disappering all the time. Apple have replaced the ipod and I have fully charged the new ipod synced it this evening all was ok, the ipod synced and then told me to disconnect and the same thing is happening again I have tried to reset multiple times and all that happens now is the apple logo appears and disappers it will not switch on or off, itunes keeps telling me that it cannot recognise the ipod at this time and the safely remove section on my task bar on my computer is telling me that the ipod has malfunctioned. can anyone help? am I doing something wrong someone suggested that I should have downloaded itunes once I had my ipod and not before, I have about 20GB of music in itunes and I was not aware that you needed to use or own an ipod to use this music storage system
    HELP
    Thanks in anticipation

well it looks like you might have a tech issue here; try to return the ipod and choose a different store and buy one ... also try to uninstall itunes totally, back up your songs on a CD or DVD, and then re-install a fresh new copy of itunes ... this might work ... good luck!

  • Windows logo testing to verify compatibility with 80GB Classic Problem

    Hi All,
I purchased my son a 80GB Classic for christmas and it has been great. Then out of the blue when he hooked it up to his computer two weeks ago to purchase new music the computer would not recognize it. I have tried the five R's as recommended and updated all his programs as suggested. Any advice would be Greatly appreciated. This is the message we get when we plug the ipod into the usb " The software you are installing for hardware has not passed Windows Logo testing to verify its compatibility with Windows XP." Thank you!

Since I'm on a Mac, I can't offer a whole lot of help. I did find this article on the Microsoft website which may be helpful.

  • Help! 80gb Classic ipod - wont go any further than the license agreement.

    Hi,
Hope somebody can help - just bought a 80gb classic after my old one died.
I've plugged it in to my computer and it comes up with connecting, goes into itunes and shows me the licensing agreement. Ive then ticked the box saying that i have read it then clicked saved which then takes me to wherever i want it saved. Clicked ok then it goes back to itunes and doesnt do anything, its just left on the licensing agreement page.
Ive taken off my previous itunes and reloaded with the current itunes with still no avail - also switched off norton anti-virus which doesnt seem to be affecting it.
Anybody have any ideas what it could be?

Are you seeing a Continue button anywhere? Click the little Agree box then the Continue button, there's no need to save the agreement. If you aren't seeing all the buttons try increasing your screen resolution to at least 1024x768 so you can see the whole page: iTunes window does not display all options

  • New TED video podcasts not compatible with 80GB classic?

Up until recently, I've been loading TED podcasts (video) on my 80GB Classic with no problems. For the last 3-4, however, I'm being told that these most recent ones can't sync because they are not compatible with my ipod. For some reason they can't be viewed. Is anyone having this same problem? Is there a fix?
I have the most current version of iTunes, and I tried the Advanced tools.
    Thanks.

Did the problem start just after updating to i-tunes V9?
Classic owners are having lots of problems since updating. Check out the threads for i-pod classics to see what I mean.

  • Problem with 80GB classic it won't be recognised on itunes or my computer

My girlfriend told me that her pod had suddenly stopped working on her and was telling her that she had to restore it within her itunes, when she tried this the computer wouldn't recognise that there was even anything there. Later trying the same ipod on my computer i found that it wouldn't recognise the device on there either. I've heard alot of things about the 80GB classics suddenly stopping working when itunes is updated is this the same problem?

I'm having the same problem. Been struggling to get 80gb Ipod Classic to work with Windows XP. I've gone through 4 Ipod Restores, and just when I think it's stable, some new issue rears it's head. Initially, I was convinced that I had a corrupted Itunes library, as eventually during a sync, Itunes would get stuck on some random file, and I would have to pre-emptively disconnect. Eventually, this would corrupt the database files on my Ipod, and it would start up fine, but say it had no content on it (but with, say, 60gb free). So I cleared my library and database files (my documents > my music). started from scratch basically. Since doing this, syncing has been fine for the past month...Now (started two days ago), connecting my Ipod to my computer, Itunes won't see it. On the Ipod, it shows "Do not disconnect" screen, and then "Ok to Disconnect" screen immediately. Last night, I experimented, connecting and disconnecting the Ipod to my computer, and eventually Itunes did recognize it (seems hit-or-miss), but then during the sync it eventually got stuck syncing a file, and I had to pre-emptively disconnect. Luckily, it did not erase/screw up the library on my Ipod.
Another issue, I have is that Podcasts, never show in the outermost Main menu. The only way to access podcasts on my Ipod Classic, is to put them all in a playlist. Any one else with this problem?

  • Problem with 80gb Classic, freezing/games disappearing...

I'm listening to a song, playing Solitaire. iPod freezes and then goes to the Apple Logo screen for a little bit.
It reboots and I re-start a song. It plays.
I go back to play Solitaire... there are no games on the iPod.
The iPod was not connected to a PC at all during this. I had not played around with the games file or anything else on the PC while the iPod was connected either.
So after a bit of a panic, I hook it up to the PC. It then says it doesn't recognize it and I should format it so it does, as if it was a new iPod. Now for the last 10 hours or so, it was connected and I was listening to music all day.
I said no, and unplugged it. Put it back in and it fired up as normal.
I then said to eject the iPod and it did, but now it's stuck on the OK to Disconnect screen with the load bar 99% done.
Tried again to hook it up to the PC, it just freezes up iTunes and the iPod resets when I disconnect it.
Sooooo, anyone have any clue whatsoever as to what the **** is going on here?

Hi, yeah I'm having the exact same problem. I just got my 80gb Classic 2 weeks ago and I sync'd everything the first time and did the firmware update. Then the second time I plugged it in to charge it, it froze, so I disconnected it and let the battery completely die out and plugged it in to my computer again. This time it started charging and iTunes popped up and automatically started syncing everything again. And since then i've had to let the battery completely die and totally re-sync everything everytime (actually every 2nd time) I've plugged it in.
I tried it on a different computer and it did the same thing. Does anyone know what to do? Is the firmware maybe the problem?

  • Multiple problems with 80GB classic, don't know where to start.

    Hey guys,
I got an Apple classic 80GB for my bday early August and lately i've been having so many problems i dont know where to start, i'll try to explain them as best as i can.
*problem 1:* Whenever i plug my iPod into my PC, it locks up the system for about 5 minutes, then comes up with an error box saying that 'There is a problem with your iPod yadda yadda restore etc'.
I proceed to restore the iPod, then once its restored and reconnects itself, it repeats the cycle by freezing then telling me to restore. The only way i can do a restore and have it not give me an error is if i reboot when it is disconnected.
*Problem 2:* When i finally get it up and ready to sync, i go to sync all my files (About 2000 songs). It gets to around the 1500 song mark then says there is an error and the iPod disconnects itself.
It then instantaneously reconnects itself and starts syncing from where it left off.
Once it has then sync'd all of the music ad tells me its ready to be ejected. I eject the iPod and disconnected it.
I then go into the iPod and it has no songs/videos/photos, yet it has still used up about 15gb. If i reconnect it, it will just sit there for 5 minutes not syncing, it will then randomly say the sync is done and it will eject itself.
FINALLY after all that i have my music on there
*Problem 3* Once the songs are on the iPod, it becomes insanely laggy. If i navigate to a song and press play, it will take about 10 seconds for the actual song to play. The delay is just as bad for next song, pause etc. Even using it in my cars head unit causes it to lag.
*Problem 4* If i do get a song playing after all that, about 1/5 songs will just randomly skip to the next song without letting it play through.
I have all the latest iTunes/Firmware/Drivers for everything on my PC and iPod.
I have sent it back to Apple for repair yet they could not find anything wrong (Yeah right :|)
If anyone out there could help me please, im at my wits end with this infernal machine.
    Thankyou

*Outdated operating system:* Cant be, im running XP SP3 with the latest updates
*Computer needs updates:* I've got the latest drivers for all of my hardware, including BIOS
*Software interference:* THe only other program i have running in the background is Kaspersky Antivirus, but that is disabled when i try to sync
*Damaged Files* Possibly, i played through the album where it froze at and even reo-imported it, it seemed to play and import fine
*Unregistered .dll files (Windows):* Tried this fix, but it did the same problems as the original post. Such as freezing on a certain song, then reconnecting itself only to put the music on there, yet it is really laggy
*Damaged disk structure:* Tried this fix, didn't help
*Corrupt iPod photo Cache* I have never tried to put photos on it, so i dont see how this could be it.
*Lost connection:* Checked it, it's very firm and unlikely to come loose.
*Conflict with third-party hardware:* I dont have any connected, nor have i ever
*Bad hardware:* I tried it on all of my 8 USB drives. I dont use any hubs or firewire cards so this couldn't be it.
Also i forgot to add that 1/5 times i go to restore, it locks the computer up and windows gives me a 'delayed write failed' bubble

  • Need help with (Runescape Classic Graphiced) online game

I am wondering if someone could link the program Jagex used to make Runescape Classic. Or if you have to, a land generator and character, graphics, object program. If you could also explain how to work it into HTML. That would be good too. I want to put this game (will be massively Multiplayer) on my website. Please help soon.
P.S. Explain how to make it multiplayer.

I am wondering if someone could link the program Jagex used to make Runescape Classic.Jagex tends to use proprietary in-house tools, so the odds are that the modeller used to make RS Classic isn't available on the web. To be honest, it wouldn't surprise me to learn that the Gowers hand-coded the early models in a hex editor.
If you're looking for 3D modelling tools which are used by games developers, you could do worse than Blender or Milkshape3D. However, given that you don't seem to know what an applet is or how to do networking, I think you're biting off more than you can fit in your mouth, let alone chew. Start with learning the basics and think about doing a MMORPG in a year or two.

  • Need Help With Installling Classic on OS X Panther??

Hi: When I installed OS X Panther, I wasn't aware that in order to run Classic 9, I needed 9.2. Well, I purchased 9.2 but everytime I install it it's giving me an error message. I've checked the disk as well as my HD and everything seems to be fine. I've turned off screensaver, unplugged my printer and disconnected the cable to the internet. What's up? It still won't install. It keeps saying there were errors in installing. Can anyone help me out here. I'd sure appreciate it.

  • Speakers Compatible with 80GB Classic?

I'm trying to get a good sounding, portable and moderately priced speaker system for my new Classic 80GB.
I'm considering the following, but haven't been able to figure out if I can use the 80GB (and the dock adapter it comes with) with any of these models. Can anyone confirm?
    Klipsch iGroove HG All-in-One
    Logitech Pure-Fi Anywhere
    Altec Lansing inMotion IM3c

If a friend has an external hard drive with music he has obtained by ripping his CDs, purchasing it from iTunes, etc., i.e. they are copyrighted songs that he has a license to use he cannot "give" them to you to put on your iPod. You would be violating the copyright and stealing the music.

  • Need help with iPod classic/Alpine stereo deck interface

    Hey All-
I have installed a brand new Alpine CDE-143BT stereo deck in my car.  I have a 160gb iPod classic that I connect and control via the iPod sync cable, directly into the USB port on the deck. I currently have 113GB of music on the iPod.  The deck is less than 4 months old, and the iPod also has the most current software on it.
When I do an alphabetical search for Artist, Album, etc. I have noticed that not all of the letters in the search take me to that letter group.  For example, when I do a search for "D" it goes to "The Crystal Method";  "M-T" it takes me to "The Kinks", and so on.  It seems to be worse with an Artist search over Album search.
    Any suggestions?

If you have full resolution copies of the photos on the iPod have a look here: Apple Knowledge Base article - Use Disk Mode to copy photos from iPod
If not, there are a few programs out there for recovering photos from an iPod, have a look at the ones below. If you search the internet you can find more. Just be aware that what you'll be recovering will be photos optimised for the iPod so they won't be the same quality as the original full resolution versions:
Keith's iPod Photo Reader Mac only
iPod Photo Liberator Mac & Windows
TouchCopy Mac and Windows Versions (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)

  • Need help with the classic question: iMac or MacPro?

    HI all,
I have been tossing this questions for a little while now, high end iMac or low end MacPro? So if I can request your patience, please allow me to rattle this lot off and see if you can help.
    My current spec is:
    • MacPro 1,1
    • 2 x 2.66 Dual Core Xeon
    • I have 2 screens, 24"
    • All 4 internal bays have HDs, 1 is designated for TimeMachine.
    • 2 external HDs, 1 for iTunes and misc, 1 for boot HD backup.
The software I run are mostly the Adobe CS suites, some 3d, some audio, and soon some FCPX.
I have had the computer for about 4 years now, and although it has served me very well it is getting tired etc. I am a long-term tower computer fan, but I can't ignore the question.
So, I have been thinking of either:
    • Going for the high-end iMac, and consolidate much of my internal HDs into an external RAID system.
    or
    • Getting the low-end MacPro, with the 3.2ghz Nehalem chip upgrade, and basically keep the same 'style' of system I have now.
    The
What would you recommend? My concern is of course related to price, and bang for the buck, but more than that - longevity for the upcoming years. Pretty much now is the time when I will be updating, and I expect to keep whatever system for the next few years.
I don't see my uses for the Mac to be too much different from what is listed above. I have not installed anything other than additional HDs and RAM into my current Mac - so in that respect expandability isn't too much of an issue.
The price is similar enough to be comparable.
In case you wonder, the current MacPro has been earmarked for use in another task, which is likely to include usage of the screens... Hence in somerespects, this is a "starting from scratch" situation...
    Thoughts?
    Many thanks,
    Aaron

Forgot to mention Aperture. Lot's of photos.

  • Itunes U help with Ipod Classic??

I have an Ipod Classic 160gb model.. and I'm trying to download videos from Itunes U (language videos)..
I can download them fine, but whenever I actually sync my ipod, it says there is an error because my ipod has the wrong video format set??
How do I cange my video format to allow myself to view these Itunes U videos?
Or is my Ipod Classic the problem?
    Please help, thankyou! =)

    Hey there,
This might work. Try right->clicking on the video and choose "Create iPod or iPhone version". This conversion may take a while depending on the length of the episode. Once it is done, try resyncing it to your iPod and see if that helps.

  • Need help with iPod classic photo sync

I received an iPod classic with photos of my wedding on it, as a gift. I want to move the photos from the iPod to my Apple TV device, but when I try to sync, I'm prompted with the warning that a sync would replace the photos on the iPod with photos from my computer's library...something I'm obviously trying to avoid.
    Any suggestions?
