Help!!! with 970A-G46 Bios Update / Asus R9 280x Dcu II

Ok so i recently got the Asus r9 280x dcu II card for ugrading and when i installed it, i started the computer, but i was not getting anything on my monitor. The computer works fine with my old gpu Radeon HD 7770, but when i installed this one, the computer would not post.
Im wondering if it is my motherboard bios that i need to update in order for it to post because i have not updated my bios yet and maybe the card only works if my motherboard is on the latest bios.
Also about the bios update. Last night i tried to update and i got to update to version 1.B0 (1.11). But i checked for new bios at the support download page for this board and saw that new versions were at the 2.0 level and the latest bios is version 2.6.
I tried to update the bios with the version 2.6 .exe file in a formatted flash drive but everytime the pc restarted, it would not go to the bios update screen. And also on the bios menu when i click on m fash it did not work it gave me a message which i cant remember right now.
I would appreciate the help.
Thanks

Yesss!!!!  I got it to work. All i had to do was clear my cmos and it worked

  • Msi 970a-g46 - BIOS update got interrupted, screen is now perma black

So recently my computer has started having issues where it will just freeze out of nowhere leaving me only with sound, no mouse, no keyboard, i believe a still image on the screen (cant tell due to the mouse/keyboard).
Either way, so i figured i would go about and update all of my drivers, while updating my BIOS drivers, my computer had one of these freezes and i was careless enough to hit the restart button...
So now whenever i try and boot my computer, i am left with a pure black screen, and nothing else...
Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
    Piers.

    Try a battery removed CMOS clear and reset. The freeze may have been RAM, PSU, VGA related. A BIOS update is firmware, etc., no drivers involved. A list of system components may be of help in the troubleshooting process;

So after doing that, i plugged it back in, and got a long squealing beep tone so i immediately unplugged it... im also a huge retard, and powered it on while i had the jumpers on clear data... i feel retarded and i hope i didn't just break my motherboard even more... D':

Pls note that bios v2 can be updated only if you using Windows 8. Otherway update will fail, and your mobo is "bricked"

it was the top one on the page
as for overclocking, i haven't done any of that

  • Z68-GD65 G3 Need help with half bricked BIOS update

Sorry if this should be in the BIOS forum, wasn't 100% sure.  Long story short...
    i2600k
    16GB Corsair Ram
    Crucial M 128GB
    GTX460
I was trying to update the board to the latest BIOS.  I didn't realize the file/method from the MSI website was so problematic.  I ran E7681vP8.exe from within windows, the BIOS was updated and it then rebooted the system to update to ME8.  It never got to the ME update and I was stuck in an infinite reboot loop.  Power on for 10 seconds, then off, then back on again.  Tried everything I could think of to get the system back.  Cleared CMOS via button and battery, no change.  Rotates ram sticks in slot 2, disconnected everything but USB keyboard and plugged the monitor into the DVI port on the board, no change.  This was last night and I had already setup my RMA when I decided to try one more CMOS clear this morning before packaging everything up.  Well the Gremlins decided to let it power on and POST this morning!  I hit F1 to enter setup and here is the problem...
It's now asking me to insert my USB key I'm assuming to now do the ME8 update... Well I formatted the USB drive I was using with the forum tool last night in an attempt to revive the board, so I don't have the extracted files from the MSI EXE from the website.
I downloaded the EXE again, but I can't get it to run/extract the files since it's only set to run on this board (I'm on a Lenovo laptop).  I tried  WinRAR, 7-Zip, and Universal Extractor on the EXE to try and just get the files back on the USB.  None of those work.
So the system is on and I'm stuck at the screen asking for the USB key.  I don't want to power it off/cycle it in case that screws up the update somehow.
Can someone else with this board download the EXE directly from MSI, run it on a USB key (you don't have to update the BIOS to get the files to extract) and maybe upload the contents?  Or Mods do you have another suggestion on how to continue?
    Thanks!

Well I'm REALLY regretting upgrading to this BIOS as it's killed my overclock :(
Before I was stable with a 2600k @ 4.5Ghz with just 1.325 vcore.  Now I'm up to 1.35 vcore and I'm still not stable :(  Keep getting this BSOD:
"A clock interrupt was not received on a secondary processor within the allocated interval".
IBT and prime95 keep causing that BSOD.  I don't understand why the BIOS update is requiring such a huge increase in vcore.
Because it is a 'compromise' UEFI/BIOS designed to allow function of both Sandy and Ivy CPUs on a mainboard originally designed on the Sandy Bridge platform. It's a shame that the GD65(G3) Ivy update does not function as well as the GD80(G3) vJ21 version does.

  • 970A-G46 BIOS update failed

    Good day,
I have tried to update my bios but it failed. When I restarted my computer it gives me 2 short beeps the whole time.
I have tried the recovery methods posted on https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=119375.0 but it doesn't seem to work.
I downloaded the 7693v18.zip driver from the MSI website because the newest drivers only have exe's inside and not the rom file everyone is talking about. So I tried to put that file on a usb flash (Formated as FAT) alone and with the exe file with no luck and also renamed it to AMIBOOT.ROM and also AMIBIOS.ROM, but nothing seems to work. The computer starts reading from the flash immediately and stop beeping but after that nothing happen, I left it for more than 5 minutes without any response.
So I tried the same method with a DVD, then when the computer power on it beeps 2 times, start reading from the DVD for about 1minute and then beep again 2times in a infinite loop. I have tried older ROM files also just to make sure my ROM file is working, still the same results.
Another thing that is bothering me is that everyone is talking about a combination of keys they must press to get it to force flash the bios. So far in my case it doesn't make a diffrence if I press ctrl + home or ctrl + page up or just not pressing anything. It always beeps and do what I mentioned above. My keyboard's num lock leds also do not respond when I press it.
I have removed all SATA drives and usb drives when I am testing it and I used a PS2 keyboard. I also removed my all my RAM and just put 1 of them in the slot nearest to the CPU. The motherboard doesnt have a onboard graphics card so I kept the dedicated one in. I also cleared the CMOS and removed the battery if someone was wondering.
Do someone maybe have any other suggestions for me, because it seems like the computer is still alive its just I need the correct file name, rom or something.
I have a AMI bios and it is the new Clickable bioses that you get.
    Motherboard: 970A-G46

then send it back to reseller or MSI, >>How to contact MSI.<<

  • MSI 970a G46 - Bios issues

After recently replacing my ssd (had the same on before old one died from physical damage) and psu I cannot install windows 8.
I get to the prepairing devices phase and it stops close to 100% and goes to a black screen. I'm assuming this is the phase where the boards peripheral controllers ect are prepped and something is not finishing.
    So I tried to use the live update feature via the utility disc the board came with, it begins checking and fails at the second phase;
"Warning: could not find suitable bios rom"
I thought maybe this was because it has the most current version. I looked up my board on the site, and the only thin I get for a download is the live update 5 program, which is meant to run in the windows enviroment not pre installation.
I downloaded the live update program onto another computer and went through the program files and to no avail....cannot find a bios revision file name or anything in the program.
The bios appears to no be obtainable other than through live update which is failing.....
Anyone here know where I can pull just the bios from to put it on a stick and use the m-flash utility?
    Thanks
          Nick

I am having the same issue. There is a utility in the bios to update itself but raw bios files are not available with v2.0 and higher(that I can Find). When I boot from my bootable 256MB flash drive (the same drive I use for all bios updates). I get the same error that the OP got "The tool does not support this board". What the hell? I have probably updated hundreds of BIOSs and have never seen such crap(except once with a crappy Foxconn early-UEFI MB). Usually there are multiple methods and I can get 1 to work. If MSI just would make the raw ROM for the BIOS to do it itself.
Their website is also jacked. If I go to the US site for this board, no BIOS updates are listed, I have to go to the www site. There are also versions of the site with 970ag46 in the address but you can get to almost the same site with 970a-g46 (an added dash) but it will have different downloads. I am sick of sites in general having crappy quality control.
BTW I am trying to go from v2.5 to the just listed as being released (5/19/2015) v2.7
Also the link posted by WaltC is no longer valid. Can someone just list these instruction please.

  • Sata hot swap possible with 970a-g46? If so, how?

Recently installed 970a-g46, FX4170 and everything is working fine. I installed an esata bracket on the back (which is connected to Sata port 6) so that I could attach an external drive. When I turn the drive on Win 7 sees it and I can access it (read & write) ok. However, it does not show up in Windows "safely remove hardware" so that I can shut it down when I want. Can the sata ports be made swappable so I can plug n play this drive. I searched the manual cover to cover--no luck. Googled it and can't find anything on it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You can fix it without reinstalling - there are methods. It was unfortunate that when you build with this board by default AHCI is not set properly when loading "optimized defaults" - default is IDE. This is MSI's fault actually. Asus boards have AHCI enabled by default, as do most Intel MSI boards. Even so your burner should work fine in IDE mode as long as it's attached to one of the two SATA 6 ports. Perhaps you used one of the legacy SATA 3 ports. I have built with 13 of these boards (I'm a local builder-shop owner) in my town and I didn't have this issue, mostly because my configurations are simple (eg 1 to 2 HD's) and a single DVD burner, and I always make sure AHCI is enabled anyway.

  • No Display After Reboot - Flashed with HP Software BIOS Update for HP Pro 4445s Notebook

    Hello,
I am in need of your help, expertise and assistance for I really need to use my one and only laptop for work here at home.
I installed an HP provided software for BIOS update. I was processed, save the current file system and continued with the flashing/updating the BIOS, successfully and a countdown should up to reboot the unit. When the unit rebooted, it now shows no display and a blinking caps lock led indicator. The power led button indicator is working while the caps lock led indicator is blinking and it takes 15-20 minutes then the laptop/notebook fan functions (I can here by the sound) but still no display.
I've tried the troubleshooting steps and procedures, pressing the Window + B keys and the power button yet no luck. Tried as well with the USB fat32 formatted with the F0.1 BIOS inside but still no luck. I've already called HP Tech Support for ProBook and followed the instructions but still no luck. Last step that she has informed me, to try with an external display using the the vga/d-sub port on the notebook/laptop and to check if it will display on the external monitor. Did not try this yet for I don't have any nor spare external monitor to use.
Any help and other set of instructions, fingers-crossed to fix this problem, would be greatly and much appreciate.
Thank you and Best of All Success with your opinions.

  • Help with MS-6712 BIOS Flashing

    Hi
Basically i got a new game for my PC (Halo) which wouldnt play properly even though my specs were all way above recommended. This is my specs
    Windows XP Home Edition SP1
    MS-6712 motherboard
    Athlon XP 2600+
    1024MB DDR PC 2700
    GeForce FX 5200 128MB
    160 Hard Drive
    Matshita DVD-RW
On Board Sound and LAN card
I read the Halo manual n it said to update my garphics, sound and BIOS drivers. I did the 1st two no problem. I wasnt to sure which BIOS update I would need so i got LiveUpdate 3 off the MSI site. I installed, downloaded the BIOS drivers automatically and installed the BIOS using a floppy disk and booting it. As far as i know the BIOS update was going fine untill it finished then I restarted my PC and there was nuthin, just a black screen. I rang up Time Computers (my manufacturer) and they helped me out. I then could boot my hard drive etc. BUT when i got to windows XP it said it needed activating, even though Time said that should never happen, and advised me to reboot using my Reload CD which I got with my PC.
Tried that but an error comes up when the CD boots saying "unable to determine the BIOS lock".
I installed Windows 98se which works fine now on a 2nd hard drigve (now set as master).
I rang up time n they said the only thing I could do is get a new motherboard which is gonna cost me £120 (about $170). I would like to know if I could somehow get my original BIOS back, ive heard if clearing the CMOS but i dont no if that would solve anything or just make it worse than it is.
Any replies would help and be REALLY appreciated
    Thanks.
P.S after reading these forumns i had realised how stupid it was to update the BIOS even though my PC was runnin fine, I was just taking microsoft's word for it (anotha stupid thing) as they made Halo.

the bloke at time is the only one will give you your original bios rom
as they along with most oems use their own bios not the msi one
and its some sort of id they put in it that the recovery disk is looking for, they are a conn, you paid for an os demand the proper disks
they also use cheap power supplies so chances are you need a better one if you have added stuff to the box

  • Help with C6-00 photo update

I need help with updating the items in the photo gallery. Anytime I transfer pictures from PC to the phone using either a USB connection or bluetooth, the items just stay in the memory card. What I mean is that they can only be acessed through file manager and not possible to veiw them using the Photo application. It is as if the Photo application does not automatically update itself. I have tried moving the items from one folder to another, even using the images folder itself. Please, can you tell me what to do about it?
Usually, the same thing happens with Videos too.
    Thanks in advance.

The apps wont recognise the photos or videos if file extension is missing.Go to file manager and locate your file.Check whether it contains file extension. If not rename the file with . Jpg extension. If you dont know the type of file, select options >details(it should be something like that) to know it.After renaming all your files in file manager close file manager and open yout photo app.It should show all your photos.Same goes for videos which you will need to rename to .mp4 or .3gp as the case may be.

  • MSI 648 Max with AGP X8 - BIOS update

I have replaced my old AGP card with Radeon 9550 256MB for use with my new Dell 20" WS monitor.
Every time, after starting or during 3DMark03, it crashed back to desktop and sometimes retarting my pc.  I try ram settings, aperature etc with no luck.  My pc has TrueBlue 480 watt PSU and the voltage reading is good.
In the end, I searched this forum and found out it was the problem with AGP X8 so I changed it to AGP X4 via ATI control panel, my pc went through 3Dmark03 with no problems at all.  AGP X4 works flawless.
Regarding BIOS - my motherboard is SIS 648 MAX-L HT ready (Hyper-threading) and its latest BIOS version is v3.1.  I'm just wondering that is my board exactly the same as non-HT 648 MAX board physically?  Since they use same chipset with same layout and also because I noticed the BIOS update for non-HT version is different with v1.5 and has the fix for Radeon 9700 problem which could be related to my problem.  Since I'm using Pentium 4 2.53Ghz, Hyper-threading is a useless feature, could I flash my board with this BIOS?
    Thanks in advance

  • Tecra S1 - problems with touchpad after BIOS-update to 2.50

    Hi,
after the BIOS-update to version 2.5, the touchpad doesn't do anything. Starting in the docking station, the optional PS2 mouse works without any problem. Starting undocked, the touchpad doesn't work anymore. Normally - before update - the touchpad started it's work immediately after undocked booting.
What can I do to reactivate the touchpad???
    Wanky

    Hi Jeffrey,
    thank you for your tips!
First I tried the hotkeys. All hotkey combinations work successful - except for the touchpad key F9...
After reinstallation of the touchpad driver, undocking the Tecra and disconnecting the USB-mouse I started with the Toshiba HWSetup tool to switch the functionality of the pointing devices to simultaneously. After installing the touchpad driver and repeated booting of the Tecra -> no progress.
After all examinations, no step further... I'm tired...
If you have another ideas, please let me know.
    Kind regards,
    Uwe

Normally the lenovo update utility will prevent you from running the bios update if you don't have a charged battery installed, were you using a method other than the update provided by lenovo?
Also, it is technically possible to reburn the bios chip and there is at least one company in the usa that offers this service, it will cost you at least twice as much as you can get a good working motherboard for so replacing is your best option.

  • Help with FCPX and Compressor updates

So compressor automatically updated from 4.0 to 4.1 and is now not working and im also having issues with the 10.0 to 10.1 FCPX update. Please check out the link to my other post below for more details.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/24968191#2496819.

OK found projects, didnt realize they got moved to the events library from down by the timeline. Still waiting to see if Compressor 4.1 works with FCPX 10.1 update. Looks promising though. My computer automatically updated Compressor to 4.1 without me knowing (obviously when I opened it I noticed) but when it was failing I was still trying to compress with FCP 10.0 and Compressor 4.1 so maybe that was the issue.

  • Help with Acer Aspire 4339 update. PLEASE HELP.

Okay, I'm already sick and tired of Acer. Since my warrenty is expired, I had to deal with terrible scam site called answersby.com that Acer RECOMMENDED. I cannot believe that they would actually share this TERRIBLE website to their customers. First of all, the live chat service only directed me to the same technician that would'nt reply to ANYTHING that I said. Not only that, the website itself is buggy and whenever when you try to send feedback, you'd have to click it like 6 times in order for it to send. Ha, and get this! There's many many people telling how that website scams people entirely.  Anyways, diving into the CORE of my situation is that recently, I tried playing Sims 3, on this terrible laptop, and my drivers are outdated.  (Horrah!) So I was like, okay, let's update. Come to find out, the updated drivers are 2011 which I don't even know why. Yes, yes I know. Acer Aspire 4339, so so old. But in order to actually download most things, you aren't able to update the Intel Graphics since it's customized by Acer.  (Great!) *sarcasm* Also, whenever I try to update my chipset with the lovely Intel Update utility, I'm slapped in the face with errors. Went to Acer and my product, I can't download the chipset? I don't know. I'm confused on why there's OUTDATED software for Acer Aspire 4339. Not only that, I need an UPDATED version of Intel HD Graphics. The latest driver is literally from 2011. Come on. Why would the video card even be customized by Acer????  Ugh, if ANYONE can find me an UPDATE for Intel HD Graphics on the Intel website thank you, you've saved me from ripping my hair out.  Since there isn't any updates, I won't be able to run MODERN gaming software on this computer.  My Computer specs: Intel Celeron(R) CPU P4600Windows 7  Professional 32-bit (Pretty sure that's all you need.)  My GPU is integrated, too. Since it's a laptop. I need to bypass this OUTDATED driver and get one at LEAST in 2012 and later. I tried so hard to avoid this forum, but Acer pushed me too far and now I'm here. So please, save my hair before I rip it out from the frustration that lovely Acer has given me.

bypassing custom Intel drivers is easy. check on programs/features if any Intel VGA drivers is listed and uninstall, if not...go to device manager, choose display adapters, right click your Intel VGA and choose to uninstall, deleting software drivers too. at next reboot, probably windows will be low res  but you will be able to install the latest Intel original VGA drivers.

Under your battery, there's a product code on a sticker (X: 0586707). Go here: http://europe.nokia.com/support/download-software/device-software-update/can-i-update and type in your productcode to see if there should be an update for your productcode. If there's not, you could take your phone to a Nokia Carepoint and ask if they could do it - no promises. Or else you have to wait untill your productcode gets it.
