Help With ACR Presets

Hi! I am trying to use some new ACR presets I purchased. These are the first presets I've ever used. I am working on a new Macbook Pro, and have loaded the .xmp files to library/application support/adobe/camera raw/settings. They are now showing up in ACR, but when I try to use them, I get this message "Unable to load the raw conversion settings.  The raw conversion settings file is invalid." Any help??

I bought them from LilyBlue. I thought it would save a ton of time from having to open in Photoshop. I have CS5. Here's the specifications from the purchase.
WHAT VERSION OF PHOTOSHOP DO I NEED FOR LILYBLUE ACTIONS? FOR LILYBLUE RAW PRESETS?
most lilyblue actions have been developed for cs and above. lilyblue raw presets have been developed for acr (adobe camera raw) and adobe lightroom. both versions are included in your purchase. they work on both pc and mac.

    OK, first, to avoid "pixilating", just don't use any pixie dust.
    To avoid pixelating, don't scale the image.
    This particular image is extraordinarily easy to isolate with a single click using the Magic Wand.

    I have the new Nikon D610 cametra and can not open my raw files in CS5.  Is there an update that works?

  • .NEF files not opening with ACR in CS6

    I run CS6 on my iMac with OS 10.6.8 with the ACR 7.1 update downloaded and installed.  When browsing my Nikon D600 images in Bridge, thumbnails for my .NEF files load initially, but some immediately change to the stock .NEF icon.  None of my .NEF files open in PS and instead I get the popup telling me I need to get the latest version of ACR.  No ACR update appears under Help>Updates>Photoshop.  When I do all these same actions on my MacBook Air running CS6 with ACR 7.1 on OS 10.9.4, everything works fine, all thumbnails load properly in Bridge and all .NEF files open in ACR.
    -Why does it work on my laptop setup and not my desktop?
    -Is there a newer version of ACR than 7.1 or is it bundled in with the newer DNG updates?  I also installed DNG update 8.3 (the newest that my OS will support) and there was no change.
    Thanks

    You need at least ACR 7.3 for the D600. Adobe stopped providing downloads after 7.1. They want you to use Help > Updates.
    I'm not a Mac person, but I think OSX 10.6 might not support the latest (8.6) version of ACR. In which case, you could try this link:

  • In need of immediate help with FCP new user taking over colleagues position

    Good Morning. I am in urgent need of some help with a specific final cut pro question. My coworker and I have been working on a video project for our employer, a university. He ran the editor (FCP) and I ran the logistics of setting things up, keeping the contacts and scheduling, etc.
    He has left until late August and there are two major typos in his work which is posted to the web at the moment. I need to correct these typos and have less than a faint idea of how to do it.
    First of all, what is the file's last three letters? (.doc, .mov, etc...)
    Second, can I edit this as easily as I think I can? Just click in the text file along the bottom timeline and edit that way?
    How do I export the movie as an mp4 file after i have edited it.
    Anything else that would be deemed helpful is always appreciated!
    I really appreciate the help. I was never trained on this program because I never needed to be. Unfortunately, as it turns out, I did.
    Thanks for the help!

    You need to locate the Project file. Which will be somewhere in your colleague's User space.
    In the Finder, press command and F to activate the Find function.
    Make sure the following parameters are set:
    Search *This Mac* and Contents
    Kind is Documents
    Type the project name.
    The icon looks like this:
    Double click it to launch Final Cut Pro with the project.
    To locate the text overlay, click on the Timeline to make it active. Use the down arrow on your keyboard to jump from one cut to the next. The text overlay will look similar to this:
    Double click on the Text clip. This will place it in the Viewer (the left "monitor").
    Click the "Controls" tab above the Viewer and make your changes. Press Return.
    Clicking anywhere in the Timeline once more will update it.
    Make sure that no clips are selected and the Timeline is the active window.
    Go to the menu bar: File > Export > Using QuickTime Conversion.
    In the window that opens, make sure that Format is set to QuickTime Movie.
    Click the Options button. Look at the top of the next window.
    Does it say Compression Setting: H264? If it does, great.
    If not, click the settings button and choose H264 from the *Compression Type* button.
    At bottom left, drag the Quality slider to Best. Click OK.
    This brings you back to the previous window.
    Click on Size if you need to change something -there are a number of presets, but you can choose a custom size if you wish. Click OK.
    That window is dismissed and returns you to the Save dialog.
    Type a name and choose a destination for your file.

  • Need help with compression rates with Sorenson Squeeze 6, Compressor3.5.2

    Hopefully somebody can help me with this...
    I am running Sorenson Squeeze 6 on a Mac to try and compress some Apple ProRes 422 videos into an MPEG-2 file. The file will be played in a DirectX application, running on a PC with Windows 7. When being played it looks to be heavily compressed, and I need help with some of the compression settings.
    Let me get more into detail...
    So I have received a Quicktime .mov that has been encoded with FCP using Apple ProRes 422 compression at 720x486 , 29.97 fps, 40.29 Mbit/s , and the file size is 515.7mb.
    So, this is the type of file I will have to compress into an MPEG-2, that will be playing on a...
    1.6 GHz Intel Atom 330 Dual Core
    NVIDIA GeForce 9400M Graphics
    1Gb DDR2 800 Ram
    32Gb SATA Solid State Drive
    Windows 7 Home
    Here is what I have done so far on my Mac using Sorenson Squeeze 6 :
    I have brought the original file in and created some presets.
    First off, I am encoding these MPEG-2 videos using an elementary stream type so I can mux the files using MPEG Streamclip...
    Here is a screenshot of the settings I am using in Sorenson :
    - I have changed many of the data rate settings as low as 3000 Kbps, and as high as 15,000 Kbps, and the end result looks essentially the same
    - The audio isn't a problem, so I'm not going to address that.
    - I have used the crop/deinterlace filter and also not used the filter, and it makes a big difference, so obviously it needs to be deinterlaced.
    From there I will get the .m2v file and the .m2a file, and then mux those with MPEG Streamclip.
    So, I have done 8 different Pre-sets all with various settings playing primarily with the data rate, and the method from 2-pass vbr all the way to 1-pass cbr.
    So again, my end result that is playing back on the windows 7 box (the specs that are listed above) looks to be heavily compressed and pixelation occurs.
    - I have also done the exact same with Apple's Compressor, and have gotten better results muxing while compressing, however the end result still tends to be the same, however the end result is much better. I have gone through 8 or so different compression export settings, and just overall still have the same issue.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    For the future, you can set this up in DVD SP's Preferences:
    Using the Standard window layout the things to play with would be like the screenshot below:

    I cannot download updates to Photoshop Elements 9.  I get an error message that my serial number is not recognized or eligible.  Can you help with this?

    Hi,
    Which operating system are you running on?
    What updates are you trying to download?
    The last update was 9.0.3 - check by loading the editor and going to Help -> About Photoshop Elements
    The last supported Camera raw is ACR 6.5 - check by loading the editor and going to Help -> About Plug-ins -> Camera Raw
    Do you have a reason to update?

  • Difference in TIFF and RAW import with ACR (how to fix)?

    I'm experimenting with a workflow, so whilst this may seem like an odd thing to want to make work, I have a geniune reason for doing what's described below:
    I have Canon CR2 RAW files from a 7D, Photoshop CS6 13.01 64bit, with ACR 7.1.0.354, running on Windows 7 64bit.
    1. I import a CR2 image via ACR, with no changes to any sliders; opening it as Adobe RGB (1998); 16bit
    2. I then save the image as a TIFF file, leaving "ICC Profile: Abode RGB (1998)" selected in the Color section of the file save dialog
    3. If I then close all files, and reopen the CR2 and TIFF image, they (as expected) appear to be identical
    4. After closing all files again, I then open the CR2 and make an exposure adjustment (e.g. -1.00)
    5. Using Bridge, I select the TIFF file, right click and select Open in Camera Raw. I make the same exposure adjustment as for the CR2
    6. Now, the adjusted CR2 and adjusted TIFF are different. A colour shift is noticable, and for a severe exposure change (i.e. +4.00) the shadow detail in the CR2 is a lot lighter
    Here are two cropped areas from the files (with a 4 stop push), showing some branch/leaf and grass detail respectively. The TIFF has a greener colour cast for the grass, but much darker shadows:
    TIFF
    RAW
    I appreciate that the CR2 is still a RAW file, and as such has the original Bayer pattern data, but is there any way I can make ACR adjustments to a TIFF (taken from a CR2) to behave in the same way as the original CR2?

    ssprengel, Jeff, JJMack - thanks for the constructive replies
    station_two - after your use of mildly aggressive language ("What seems to escape your grasp") in your first post, I had money that your subsequent response(s) would be on the lines of "I'm too busy to explain it to people like you". Thankyou for confirming my expectations (sometimes I wonder if some people engage in forum discussions for the sole purpose of trying to get themselves [and possibly others] riled)
    So... back to trying to find a construcive solution: If the algorthirms for the adjustments in ACR do operate directly on the Bayer data (before demosiacing to RGB per pixel) then operating on the TIFF (or any other demosaiced RGB data) will indeed be a non-starter. Without (probably unlikely) input from an Adobe developer however, we can't know for sure.
    > So RAW numbers after debayering to RGB are linear with numbers of photons within a particular color (R, G or B), while TIF numbers are assumed to be linear with human-vision sensitivity
    Understood (I'm familiar with gamma, camera sensor behaviour, exposing to the right etc). Ultimately though, it should be possible to produce an RGB file that is also linear (i.e. not adjusted for human vision) to then bring back into ACR. However, if that's simply not possible with ACR, then that's also a non-starter (and wouldn't help anyway if the adjustments operate on the Bayer data directly).
    I did look briefly into opening the RAW as a smart object, but sadly I didn't think that'd help. The goal I'm trying to achieve is an experimental idea to blend parts of images together from multiple exposures; but to achieve a single RAW file with that data as if it came from the camera (thus it could be brought into ACR to get the benefit of - from my point of view - the useful and intuitive adjustment sliders). Clearly that would require reverse engineering the particular RAW format for the camera being used (and each and every camera you'd want to support) - thus, it's not really practical.
    I'd hoped to be able to convert (without edits) the RAW images into TIFF (or some other lossless RGB container that I can read programmatically), do the blending to produce a single TIFF, and then bring that back into ACR.
    Whilst it's more convoluted, I suppose it might be possible to generate the unedited TIFF files purely for the purposes for getting data about the images, then using that to create a set of masks. Then, as Jeff suggests, perform adjustments to the RAW files in ACR, and use the masks to blend the imported (and now corrected) RAWs into one image. Not ideal, but perhaps worthy of more experimentation.

  • RAW DNG sequence / Edit Original with ACR within Premier

    I need to speak to a Adobe Premier expert. I have a RAW DNG sequence shot on my Canon 5d Mark 3 via Magic Lantern imported into my premier project now. I want to edit the DNG's image settings with ACR (adobe camera raw). So i right click on my DNG sequence / clip and go to Edit - Original . ACR pops up and i make my image modifications. I click ok but the DNG sequence doesnt change, its stays the same.
    Now i can do all this without trouble within After Effects, but it just adds another step to my workflow. When it should be working within Premier. Im still waiting to see if ACR will ever work directly within Premier.

    Maybe whoever answers your question can give me some insight. I imported my DNG sequences to After Effects, because Premier wouldn't import the DNG sequences,  and created a new comp for each of the shots I have. Later in Premier I imported all those AE comps. Now where would be the correct place to color correct and grade this? Straight in Premier? Or will I be loosing the flexibility of the DNGs? Should I do it instead in the AE comps? Or maybe it doesn't matter? Thanks for the help!

  • Any way to export with multiple presets at once?

    Hi! Is there any way to export with multiple presets at once? I do a lot of product photography, usually clients send me around 5 to 10 pieces to photograph, and from each photo requires to be exported to about 7 different formats and sizes for different uses. I have a preset for each export, but this requires multiple clicks per export, select the preset, the destination folder, etc.....   and at the end I end taking about 1 hour to just export files when if I could just select 1 time a folder of presets and the destination folder just once, then it will take no time to get all oft those exports.
    Thanks!

    Some of those other photographers have assistants they can task with doing the drudgery.
    I would describe what you're wanting scripted multiple exporting, not multiple export presets, because multiple-exports don't necessarily rely on presets, just initiating an Export and clicking on various things for each one.
    I assume you have a preset set for each of the 7 format-size-uses variations, and then most of the time consuming part is setting the Choosing the destination folder that gets mirrored to DropBox?  You can copy/paste most of the path into the Folder address area after clicking Choose.
    Without knowing what your master-photo folders and dropbox-mirror folder names and organization are it's hard to know if you've thought of all the shortcuts you might use or if things are organized in the most efficient manner.
    If you're on Windows, maybe something like AutoHotKey macros would help with what you're doing.

  • How can i open the "Convert to Indexed Color" dialog with custom presets?

    Hi,
    I need to automatically open the "Convert to Indexed Colors" dialog in Photoshop. Before and after that i have some scripts running so its not possible to open the dialog manually. Also i want to set some custom presets (like number of colors etc.).
    Found something similar to what i want for the Color Range selection (opens the dialog with the presets you put in):
    function colorrange(enabled, withDialog, fuzziness) {
        if (enabled != undefined && !enabled)
          return;
        var dialogMode = (withDialog ? DialogModes.ALL : DialogModes.NO);
        var desc1 = new ActionDescriptor();
        desc1.putInteger(app.charIDToTypeID('Fzns'),fuzziness);
        var desc2 = new ActionDescriptor();
        desc2.putDouble(app.charIDToTypeID('Lmnc'), 31.22);
        desc2.putDouble(app.stringIDToTypeID("a"), 0.86);
        desc2.putDouble(app.stringIDToTypeID("b"), 0.31);
        desc1.putObject(app.charIDToTypeID('Mnm '), app.charIDToTypeID('LbCl'), desc2);
        var desc3 = new ActionDescriptor();
        desc3.putDouble(app.charIDToTypeID('Lmnc'), 95.34);
        desc3.putDouble(app.stringIDToTypeID("a"), 54.59);
        desc3.putDouble(app.stringIDToTypeID("b"), 49.85);
        desc1.putObject(app.charIDToTypeID('Mxm '), app.charIDToTypeID('LbCl'), desc3);
        desc1.putInteger(app.stringIDToTypeID("colorModel"), 0);
        var desc4 = new ActionDescriptor();
        var desc4 = executeAction(app.stringIDToTypeID('colorRange'), desc1, dialogMode);
    How can i achieve the same for the indexed color conversion dialog? Apart from doing a lot of guessing regarding the stringIDs.
    Is there some kind of "lookup table" for char and string IDs?
    Thank you guys in advance! This forum has been a great help many times.

    Ok never mind i got it, stupid me.
    Recorded it with Script Listener and changed the "DialogMode" parameter of the executeAction function from "DialogModes.No" to "DialogModes.All".
    var idCnvM = charIDToTypeID( "CnvM" );
                var desc249 = new ActionDescriptor();
                var idT = charIDToTypeID( "T  " );
                    var desc250 = new ActionDescriptor();
                    var idPlt = charIDToTypeID( "Plt " );
                    var idClrP = charIDToTypeID( "ClrP" );
                    var idSele = charIDToTypeID( "Sele" );
                    desc250.putEnumerated( idPlt, idClrP, idSele );

                    var idTrns = charIDToTypeID( "Trns" );
                    desc250.putBoolean( idTrns, false );
                    var idDthr = charIDToTypeID( "Dthr" );
                    var idDthr = charIDToTypeID( "Dthr" );

  • Help with Organizer

    I'm on a Mac.  I made a "Master Image File" on my hard drive.  I put folders of raw images into the "Master" folder.
    I have chosen to view by folders.  But - I see less than the total number of images in the folders.
    For example from one image folder: I get a message at the bottom that 11 are displayed and that 38 are not shown. Where are they and how do I see them????
    I tried to delete the folder and rebuild it from another hard drive -- now organizer keeps showing me the folder that I deleted.
    Why can I not just see the folders and the images that are in them?  If I open the folder on my hard drive - all the images are there.  Why cannot Organizer find and display them?
    Oh, how I miss Bridge.  I hate organizer!  it is a bunch of "cute tricks" for finding faces - and a link to sites to order prints.  It is not a real help to serious photographers and it just gets in the way.
    Please, please, please bring back Bridge to the Mac for PSE 9.

    >Organizer wasn't designed to perform this task.
    And that is my point.  Bridge does that. I want it back - or to find a substitute that I can recommend.  It worked great for PSE 8.0.  It also works great for PS CS5.  In my studio I have 30 TB of external storage - on 15 eSATA hard drives.  I have tens (maybe hundreds) of thousands of images organized by folders with customer/event plus date as the title. The files go back to 1998.  Bridge can display the contents of any drive or any folder on any drive. Spotlight (built into the Mac OS) can pull up any image number or a name on a folder or image - I don't need another program to do that. Each folder has sub folders with the RAW, TIFF and JPG versions of the images.
    In my classroom I use PSE to teach digital photography.  I want to concentrate on PSE - but my students and I spend way too much time trying to find images hidden away in Organizer. They buy books on PSE - and half of the book is devoted to Organizer.
    I advise my students to build a simple system of folders and download images into those folders - independent of a "photo" program.  Then, they can back up the whole master folder to a second drive (time machine does it automatically on a Mac).  My advice is to NOT give the download task to Organizer, or to iPhoto, or to any Program that came with the camera or the computer.  5 years from now all of them will have new computers and will be using a new photo program - I know for certain that, then, they will all be able to open images stored in simple folders.  Ever try to help someone open images with PSE that were stored away by an old iPhoto program on an old Mac?  Where are my images?
    I am about to give up.  I'll use PSE 9.0 for teaching - but I'll use the "open" function from PSE to go to the images.  If I want to demonstrate how to apply Adobe Camera Raw to a JPG image, I have to do that anyway.  I have not found a way to open a JPG image directly with ACR from organizer ----
    Do I dare say it again ????  I hate  Organizer.  Please sell me a version of Bridge for PSE 9.0.
    Why is that so hard ????????

  • Newbie need help with RAW

    OK I tried doing some research and the latest thing I found was February 2007. SO...
    I adopted my computer from my brother. Installed on the maching was Adobe CS...not CS2 or CS3. Recently I was givin the Nikon D40 as a gift and now I can not find out how to view the NEF files on my CS. I am sure that this issue has been completly beaten to death so please give me some slack because I am a little embarrased to ask, but I am also completely frustrated. I really dont want to have to upgrade to CS2 or CS3 because I dont want to spend money on software until I get familiar with the program and think it is worth it. Any help would be great.
    Thank you.

    The D40 came out long after Photoshop CS was no longer supported or updated by Adobe. If you don't have plans to upgrade your Photoshop, the best thing to do is download the latest version of the DNG converter. It is packaged with ACR, and the current version is 4.1. You can use the DNG converter to create Digital Negative copies of your raw images, and those can be opened with Photoshop CS as long as you have ACR (Adobe Camera Raw) 2.4 installed. Go to Help/About Plug-Ins and click on Camera Raw. If that screen indicates that your version is older than 2.4, then go to the link at the top of the forum and download the update. Be sure to follow the installation instructions precisely.

  • Help with building flash files for streaming

    I filmed a product demonstration for a client who wanted to put it on his website.  I edited the footage in PremPro CS4 and exported to Media Encoder as F4V file format.  After encoding imported footage into CS4 Encore, created timeline, chose, Flash from Format and swf for output.  Progressive Download which allows video to begin playing as it is downloaded (I believe), chose destinations and settings.  After transcoding I had 1 file folder, Sources that contained the following files _PGC_Bpge_entryPoint_Bbp_1.f4v, and then 3 separate files, *not* in the file folder called Sources.  They are
    AuthoredContent.xml, FlashDVD.swf, and Index.html.
    I submitted all files to client who gave them to web designer.  Designer said these were the wrong files and he could not use them. I called designer and basically he said I didn't know what I was doing.  I told him he needed all files to put up the flash video.  Anyway, am I missing something, doing something wrong?  Are there other files he needs?  He said he only needed 1 file.  Or is it the designer?  I'm not thin skinned so if it's me please tell me so, so I don't make the same errors.  Thanks.  All suggestions/comments are appreciated!

    <The client wants a control player, i.e. play, stop, pause, etc., that's it, so the viewer can simply provide the function themselves.  This is similar to youtube, blogger, etc.
    The web designer can use what you provided, which does what you describe the client wanting.  But the web designer may need to integrate what Encore provided onto a web page, and the client may not have made the expectations clear and may not know what is needed.  As I said, the Encore to flash player gives almost no options for the player controls and colors etc may be problems.
    <Encore did encode the f4v file.  When I exported from PremPro what preset should I hve chosen -- mpeg2 DVD, flv/f4v.  So the only file he needs in addition to what I gave him is the original f4v file?
    I don't know whether the f4v you exported from Premiere was progressive.  The f4v from Encore might be fine, or you might need to export from Premiere again.
    The other issue is that some "player" with controls needs to be provided by you or the web designer (who may have an issue with the client not getting the designer to lay all this out to begin with).  There are several threads about "flv players" you might check out.  Does the client have video on his site already?  If so, you can figure out what they are using, and it will help with your process.
    should I have chosen "flash server" instead of "progressive".  i must admit i never did this before.  other clients just have me post it to youtube and provide them with embed code.
    It depends on what they want.
