Help with Airprint on HP Envy 111 / D411d

Frustrated:
Bought the Envy yesterday
Hooked it up, got it working... was able to print documents from iPad 2 / 3G (AT&T)
There is no network in this building
There is no DSL, and there is no wireless router.
Today I printed a couple more docs.
Then I tried to print wirelessly from my Thinkpad (Windows) laptop ---- unsucessful
Then I connected my laptop via USB to the printer... was able to print
THEN I tried to go back to printing from the iPad... BANG!
Spent two hours playing with settings on the ipad and on the printer.
Then I called Costco's Technical support (where I bought it) --- Yes, if you buy a printer or some other electronic devices from Costco you can dial an 800 number and they have techies that can help... in most cases.
Spent about 45 minutes on the phone with someone (very nice, very knowledgable, and based in the U.S.). He put me on hold several times, talked to someone higher up on the food chain, and was baffled.
Then he did a conference call with me, him, and HP support --- NOT based in the U.S.
This lady gets on the phone and tells me that I cannot... let me repeat... I CANNOT print from the iPad to the printer without a network.
I tell her... YOU'RE WRONG... I ALREADY DID IT"!
She puts me on hold several times and each time she comes back with, "It's can't be done!"
I'm like,... "whatever".... she's like, "Put the crack pipe down"... I'm like... "I have a witness".
Anyway the Costco guy was on the phone the whole time, he ends the conversation with the lady from India, and gets back on the phone with me... He's TOTALLY stumped. But he's great... he took down my information and told me that on Monday when he comes back to work he is going to get to the bottom of this. The lady I talked to was in the department that deals with Microsoft department and doesn't know what she's talking about. the Mac / Apple people won't be in until Monday, so he will do another conference call with me and the Apple Department on Monday.
WHEW!!! ---- If you think you're tired of reading this, just think how I feel
So, a couple of questions are in order here:
Does anyone have any experience like this? First it worked, then it was connected to a Windows operated laptop, then it quit working. When I was unsucessful reconnecting to the iPad I reconnected to the laptop... it still worked.
If I have to take the printer back, and suggestions on a different brand / model printer to buy? This one was $169.00, and I REALLY don't want to spend more if I don't have to.
Exactly how does an air printer work? Does it work via Bluetooth? Does it connect via the 3G?
Trust me --- independantly and with the Costco tech rep, I must have gone through every function in the menu on the printer and the iPad at least 5 times. If there is a configuration that I missed, PLEASE tell me what to look for.... I am spun on this.
I am not 100% on this, but pretty sure that the blue light above the "Wireless" Icon on the printer was a solid blue light.. when it was properly connecting to the iPad (which now doesn't even "Discover" the printer) --- now it is just a flashing blue light.
I am pretty sure that the printer is simply not transmitting the signal for the iPad to pick up.. I have a wireless keyboard, and the iPad will recognize that device... but not the printer.
As a final note, yesterday, when I was testing my new printer out, I was also able to print from a 3G iPhone to the printer... today, no printing capabilities from that iPhone either.
Hope yo uhated reading this as much as I hated typing it.... cheers!!!

The nursery is located on a county intersection, and the closest home or business is at least 1/4 of a mile. I'm not sure ehow far a hot spot will work but I doubt it will work that far. Please correct me if I am wrong.
There was only one employee there the whole day, at least during the time I was playing with the printer. I highly doubt that she has a hot spot on her iPhone. I told her that if she needed to print something from her phone to my printer she was welcome to do it, and I had to show her how to print from her phone... and she did. She printed a picture of a flower that took about 5 minutes to print and probebly sucked all the color ink out of the cartridge.
The customer with a hot spot enabled phone or mi fi device is something I didn't think of... that is the only thing it could have been  I hadn't thought of that.. quite insightful It's just SO unlikely... what are the odds? There couldn't have been a total of 10  customers in that day and, from what I have witnessed, the clientel that roams the grounds isn't exactly..... ummmm.... "technically savvy", shall we say? It's mostly older folks or groundskeeper-types that frequent the place. But what do I know.
So in summary, for my edification and others', I am assuming my understanding of the following is accurate:
"An airprint printer MUST have a wi fi connection" --- Correct?
"There is no way an airprint printer can connect to an iPad via bluetooth" --- Correct?
"3G only connects the iPad to the satellite and has nothing to do with enabling a deveice such as an  iPad connecting to another device" --- Correct?
"1/4 mile is too distant for a hot spot or mi fi to detect" --- Correct?
If these four suppositions are correct, then the ONLY way it could have connected is what kostby described.
Thanks for your input... it has been most valuable.

  • Can anyone help with AirPrint

    Can anyone help with this. I recently purchased an Airport Express unit to connect to my Canon MP 640 via USB. I was advised to download the airport utility app for both my iPad and iPhone, which I did. I also downloaded it on my pc. I have connected the Airport Express to my Orange router via wired LAN and my printer is connected to Airport Express via USB. A new wireless network has now been setup via the Airport so I can connect my iPad, iPhone and Apple TV. The printer is showing in the airport utility on my pc but I cannot print anything from my iPad and phone. The both connect to the Airport Express but cannot find the printer. They both come back with " no AirPrint printer found". Can anyone help with this.

    Thanks for that guys. I can stop tearing my hair out now. I have the Printcentral app on both devices and there are several options I can use from this, but not direct print to my printer. The Pages and Numbers apps need to update with a 'send to' option I think. Canon have an app for printing photos which works well on both iPhone and iPad, may be they need to update to include docs too. I don't realy want to spend any more money on a new printer as my Canon MP640 does a good job on my photos. Oh well, back to iCloud. Thanks again for your help.

  • Help with airprint printer

    Hi!
    A printer that supports airPrint must be connected to the same wifi network as your iOS device?
    The printer can be connected by ethernet as well?
    Thanks.

    I am sorry, was thinking the price only. I have a Officejet Pro 8600, a great piece. Does everything. Paid over 200. Just saw it on hp store for 149.99, (http://shopping.hp.com/en_US/home-office/-/products/Printers/HP-Officejet-Pro/CM749A?HP-Officejet-Pr... maybe close to your price range, definitely worth it. But if you are looking for a simple, single function printer, this printer may be too big a footprint, and too many extra functions you don't need.

  • Need Help With File Matching Records

    I need help with my file matching program.
    Here is how it suppose to work: FileMatch class should contain methods to read oldmast.txt and trans.txt. When a match occurs (i.e., records with the same account number appear in both the master file and the transaction file), add the dollar amount in the transaction record to the current balance in the master record, and write the "newmast.txt" record. (Assume that purchases are indicated by positive amounts in the transaction file and payments by negative amounts.)
    When there is a master record for a particular account, but no corresponding transaction record, merely write the master record to "newmast.txt". When there is a transaction record, but no corresponding master record, print to a log file the message "Unmatched transaction record for account number ..." (fill in the account number from the transaction record). The log file should be a text file named "log.txt".

    Much help is appreciated. Please help.

    From the output, it looks like one problem is just formatting -- apparently you're including a newline in log entries and not using tabs for the newmast output file.
    As to why the numbers are off -- just from glancing over it, it appears that the problem is when you add multiple transaction values. Since account.combine() is so simple, I suspect that you're either adding creating transaction objects incorrectly or not creating them when you should be.
    Create test input data that isolates a single case of this (e.g., just the Mary Smith case), and then running your program in a debugger or adding debugging code to the add/combine method, so you can see what's happening in detail.
    Also I'd recommend reconsidering your design. It's a red flag if a class has a name with "Create" in it. Classes represent bundles of independant state and transformations on that state, not things to do.

  • HT4356 why HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 3525 e-All-in-One Printer is not compatible with AirPrint?

    I have issues with wireless impresion in my MacBook pro. I bought an HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 3525 e-All-in-One Printer (CZ275A).
    http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/jm/en/sm/WF06b/18972-18972-238444-410635-410635-5 165506-5162510.html?dnr=1
    Why HP Deskjet 3525 is not compatible with AirPrint? Is for Mountain Lion?
    Is there any solution?
    Thanks!

    Thanks!
    When I installed the software I had an issue with the compatiblity between my printer and mountain lion. I installed a mountain lion's update related to HP Printers but it wasn't succesful. At any rate I set up the printer and and wireless print works only once... after this I used the USB connection.
    I have no idea what happens and it's so weird because HP webpage says thar 3525 is compatible with AirPrint...
    Thanks for your help!

  • Help with Message Mapping - Context Change

    I need help with the following message mapping.  I am filtering by EMP_STAT in the Message Mapping.  I have this working for the ROW structures, but I can get the HEADER/REC_COUNT field to calculate.  I can do just a record count of ROW and get it to work, but I can't get it to work with the filter EMP_STAT = 'REG' added.  I get a context error.  Could someone send me the mapping code.
    Sender XML----
    <RECORD>
    <ROW>
    <EMPLOYEE>111</EMPLOYEE>
    <EMP_STAT>REG</EMP_STAT>
    </ROW>
    <ROW>
    <EMPLOYEE>222</EMPLOYEE>
    <EMP_STAT>PT</EMP_STAT>
    </ROW>
    <ROW>
    <EMPLOYEE>333</EMPLOYEE>
    <EMP_STAT>REG</EMP_STAT>
    </ROW>
    </RECORD>
    Receiver XML----
    <RECORD>
    <HEADER>
    <REC_COUNT>2</REC_COUNT>
    </HEADER>
    <ROW>
    <EMPLOYEE>111</EMPLOYEE>
    <EMP_STAT>REG</EMP_STAT>
    </ROW>
    <ROW>
    <EMPLOYEE>333</EMPLOYEE>
    <EMP_STAT>REG</EMP_STAT>
    </ROW>
    </RECORD>

    Hello,
    You can use this mapping
    For REC_COUNT:
    EMP_STAT -> equalsS: constant:REG -> ifWithoutElse -> removeContext -> count -> REC_COUNT
                                     EMPLOYEE -> /
    For ROW:
    EMP_STAT -> equalsS: constant:REG -> ifWithoutElse -> removeContext -> ROW
                                     EMPLOYEE -> /
    For EMPLOYEE:
    EMP_STAT -> equalsS: constant:REG -> ifWithoutElse -> removeContext -> SplitByValue -> EMPLOYEE
                                     EMPLOYEE -> /
    For EMP_STAT:
    Constant: REG -> EMP_STAT
    Hope this helps,
    Mark

  • Help with database... plzzz

    Hi, I am trying to create a simple form in Java... What I am trying to do is enter a particular User ID and it should display all the information, regarding that userId... I am a starter.. Just trying to do some database stuffs.. I was wondering if anyone can help me with this without the help of JDBC.. thank you... So far I have created a form, textfield and buttons.. thats it..

    Thank for the help with the last problem, but now i am facing another one. The database and the forms works fine independently. But i cannot connect them, what i mean is if i click "insert" button to insert data into the database, the database window does not show up. i used the same code for the forms and it worked fine.. here is the code that i was using..
    private void xInsertRecordBtnMouseClicked(java.awt.event.MouseEvent evt) {
            try
                this.setVisible(false);
                teamproject.EmployeeForm.class.newInstance().setVisible(true);
            } catch (InstantiationException ex)
                Logger.getLogger(Main_Higher_Access.class.getName()).log(Level.SEVERE, null, ex);
            } catch (IllegalAccessException ex)
                Logger.getLogger(Main_Higher_Access.class.getName()).log(Level.SEVERE, null, ex);
            }I wonder if there is any other way to import the data from the database into the form. or.. to show the database..
    i am getting the following errors....

  • Need some help with my xorg.conf My screen "flickers".

    Hello. I have a problem with the refresh rate on my screen. I don't know what values to use in my xorg.conf.
    It's a lenovo thinkpad x61 (not tablet).
    The problem is that when something is moving on the screen, the image flickers and I get some lines across the screen (horizontal only). Like 1part of the screen doesn't follow the other part of the screen.

    I've tried that xorg in both kubuntu&Arch.
    It worked in kubuntu but not in Arch.
    I've tried alot of media players and both intel&vesa drivers.
    Tried Xgl (don't know if it's working) but there is no change.
    Maybe if the codecs are bad of the way the media players handles the files.
    I need help with this. Or else I can't live with arch.
    This is my xorg.conf atm:

  • Please help with workflow inspired SQL

    Hi everyone, I need some help with a piece of sql I need to create. It will be used in a workflow scenario and is therefore a bit hairy and has some limitations. So here goes..
    I have 2 current tables that will be used in this query. The first is a table used as a supervisor cross reference, and the second will be used for signing authority, or approval authorization. In short...the first table will give you the supervisor for the particular employee or employee in the where clause. This tells us who to route to. The second table has the operators authority level. As an example.... 1, 2, 3, or 4. A 1 could signify that this supervisor can approve for up to $5,000, and a 4 could signify that this person can approve up to $250,000. thats the basic idea.
    So what I need to do in ONE statement is get the requestor's supervisor, and then check his/hers authority level for level 1, 2, 3 or 4. The authority level needed will be passed into the query, so I will have that as well as the requestor. And here is the hard part...... If no rows are returned (the supervisor does not have authority to approve) I need the query to apply the same logic to the next supervisor. In other words, the supervisor's supervisor. Every requestor will have a supervisor. Every supervisor will also have a supervisor....so it goes until we get to the CEO. So the query needs to keep going until it finds a row matching the signing authority.
    So the limitations are......this needs to happen in one SQL query, and this query can only return ONE field!
    Here are some creates and inserts to give you something to work with. Been suffering with this one for a few days so your help is GREATLY appreciated.

    Hi,
    Welcome to the forum!
    Thanks for posting the CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements; that's very helpful!
    Whenever you have a question, also post the results you want to get from the sample data your posted.
    Always say what version of Oracle you're suing.
    In the sample data you posted, I only see one row in each table. Does that really give a good picture of the problem? If the problem involves going up the chain of command 1, 2, 3 or more levels, then shouldn't you have a chain of at least 3 people to show the problem and test the results?
    I think what you need is CONNECT BY Query , which works on a table with a parent-child relationship. Given a parent, you can find that ow's children, the children's children, their children, and so on, however many generations there are.
    I don't think I can demonstrate this with your sample data, so I'll use the scott.emp table, whcih you should be able to query.
    The emp table contains a hierarcy of employees, including this data:
    NAME                 EMPNO        MGR        SAL JOB
    KING                  7839                  5000 PRESIDENT
       JONES              7566       7839       2975 MANAGER
          SCOTT           7788       7566       3000 ANALYST
             ADAMS        7876       7788       1100 CLERK
          FORD            7902       7566       3000 ANALYST
             SMITH        7369       7902        800 CLERK
       BLAKE              7698       7839       2850 MANAGER
          ALLEN           7499       7698       1600 SALESMAN
          WARD            7521       7698       1250 SALESMAN
          MARTIN          7654       7698       1250 SALESMAN
          TURNER          7844       7698       1500 SALESMAN
          JAMES           7900       7698        950 CLERK
       CLARK              7782       7839       2450 MANAGER
          MILLER          7934       7782       1300 CLERKThis show, among other things, that the employee with ename='KING' (empno=7839) has no boss.
    JONES (empno=7566) does have a boss (mgr=7839), namely KING.
    SCOTT (empno=7788) has a bos (mgr=7566), who is JONES.
    I got the results above using this CONNECT BY query:
    SELECT     LPAD ( ' '
              , 3 * (LEVEL - 1)
              ) || ename          AS name
    ,     empno
    ,     mgr
    ,     sal
    ,     job
    FROM     scott.emp
    START WITH     mgr     IS NULL
    CONNECT BY     mgr     = PRIOR empno
    ;This is an example of a Top-Down Query , where we start with a parent, then find its children, grandchildren, and so on.
    In your probelm, you want to do a Bottom-Up Query ; given a child, you want to see if its parent has a certain level of authority. If not, you need to look at that parent's parent, and keep going until to either reach someone with the right qualifications, or you reach the end of the chain of command.
    That's similar to this problem: given a set of employees in scott.emp (say, everyone with job='CLERK') we want to find their closest ancestor who has a sal of 3000 or more. Look at the data above: you can see that SMITH is a CLERK, and SMITH'S boss, FORD, has sal=3000, so we want a row of output that shows SMITH and FORD.
    For a different example, looks at MILLER. MILLER's boss, CLARK, only has sal=2450, so we need to look at CLARK's boss, KING.
    One way to do that in a CONNECT BY query is:
    SELECT     CONNECT_BY_ROOT ename     AS subordinate
    ,     ename
    ,     LEVEL - 1          AS steps_apart
    FROM     scott.emp
    WHERE     CONNECT_BY_ISLEAF     = 1
    START WITH     job       = 'CLERK'
    CONNECT BY     empno       = PRIOR mgr
         AND     PRIOR sal < 3000
    ;Output:
    SUBORDINAT ENAME      STEPS_APART
    SMITH      FORD                 1
    ADAMS      SCOTT                1
    JAMES      KING                 2
    MILLER     KING                 2You should be all set to write the query now.
    Just kidding. I'll bet there's a lot of stuff in this message that's new to you. It's all documented in the SQL Language manual:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b28286/index.htm
    If you'd like help, post your version, a more complete set of sample data, and the results you want from that data.
    Explain, with specific examples, how you get the results you posted from the data you posted.
    Do as much of the query as you can, and post your code.

  • Will my OfficeJet 6500 E709n work with Airprint?

    I thought the 6500 E709N worked with Airprint but it does not seem to. Any thoughts? I want to print from my IPAD directly. Thanks, Annie

    No, the printer needs to be an e-printer.  Here is the list of compatible e-printers: http://www.hp.com/sbso/printing/mac/apple-airprint.pdf
    Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.
    I am employed by HP

    I have a iPhone 4S and a Cannon Printer with AirPrint. I have the printer and the iPhone both on the same network, however I still can't locate the printer on the phone. Works just fine with the laptop on the same network. Any suggestions?

    ok no problem! all i did was 1) set up the mobile hotspot on my phone. 2)  turn it and wifi on on the phone. 3)  connect the laptop/desktop to the hotspot network. 4) insert setup disk for the printer and begin setup. 5) complete the setup "using a usb cord to temporarilly connect the computer and printer" 6) unplug usb cable and finish set up on the laptop/desktop. 7) give it a few minutes to show up on the AirPrint menu on the phone. 8) that should be it. I unplugged the printer and plugged it back in, made sure the laptop was totally turned off AND disconnected from the network, and did everything I could to try and make it not work. The printer I have is a Canon MG3122, it doesn't have a fancy screen or even a way to input a password or anything like that, so it just strores a default network that it will connect to. in order to change networks i would have to complete setup multiple times. Since I only plan to use it with AirPrint for my mobile business....the one network is just fine! Hope this helps!

  • Help with if statement in cursor and for loop to get output

    I have the following cursor and and want to use if else statement to get the output. The cursor is working fine. What i need help with is how to use and if else statement to only get the folderrsn that have not been updated in the last 30 days. If you look at the talbe below my select statement is showing folderrs 291631 was updated only 4 days ago and folderrsn 322160 was also updated 4 days ago.
    I do not want these two to appear in my result set. So i need to use if else so that my result only shows all folderrsn that havenot been updated in the last 30 days.
    Here is my cursor:

    The reason I have included the folowing table is that I want you to see the output from the select statement. that way you can help me do the if statement in the above cursor so that the result will look like this:

    v_folderrsn
    v_folderrsn

    How do I incorporate a if else statement in the above cursor so the two days less than 30 days since last update are not returned. I do not want to send email if the project have been updated within the last 30 days.
